1.02 – MAG trailer shown. It bears repeating – 256 players! Land and air battles going on (with paratroopers), really, it’s pretty huge. Big applause.

12.59 – A brand new game revealed for the first time – MAG. Andy Beaudoin from Zipper Interactive details this Massive Action Game (get it?). MAG will support up to 256 players (!) MAG is squad-based, with teams broken down into 8 players, with fine-tuned soldier types, ongoing campaigns and character growth.

12.58 – InFamous – it’s up to you to save or destroy an entire city. Trailer shown with in-game footage. Looks awesome, though I invite you to judge for yourself when you see the video. Out Spring 09.

12.51 – Developers from Treyarch, EA Tiburon, Ubisoft, Bethesda, 2K Marin, and Lucas Arts are shown on video talking about how much more they’ve learned about programming for the PS3, and how that’s going to pay off in games like Far Cry 2, The Force Unleashed, Prince of Persia, Call of Duty World at War, Madden NFL 09, and Fallout 3. “We’re just beginning to scratch the surface of what PS3 is capable of.”

12.48 – New Hardware package: the 80 GB Core Pack coming this fall $399 – 40 more GB at that price, plus DualShock 3.

12.46 – Lee: “You can stop imagining now.” Video shown featuring lots of DC Legends like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Joker, and more.

12.43 – Mr. Lee is a HUGE MMO fan, been playing since Everquest began… so this is a dream project for him. “Imagine being able to create your own superhero… and help Batman take on the Joker… that’s a cool image.”

12.41 – SOE – Sony Online Entertainment – bringing titles to PlayStation 3. Jim Lee (of comic book fame) on stage now to preview DC Universe online. He’s doing 1-armed push-ups. Don’t hurt your inking hand!

DSCN0405

12.35 With an install base of over 35 million worldwide, many more PSP games are on the way. Montage shown, featuring Patapon 2, The Force Unleashed, Super Stardust Portable, Madden 09, LocoRoco 2, NBA 09 The Inside, Lego Batman, and Buzz Master Quiz.

12.33 – For the first time ever revealed – Resistance for PSP… Resistance Retribution! Out Spring 2009.

12.31 – On to the PSP – announcing a new PSP Entertainment Pack – in October we’ll launch the Ratchet & Clank Size Matters pack, which includes the PSP-2000, National Treasure 2, a 1GB memory card, and echochrome.

12.30 – Eric demonstrates how to copy movies to the PSP. You can do this either through a PS3, or through the PC Store. BTW, this video download service will be available TONIGHT (applause). We’ll be adding new titles each week.

12.29 – “How long will it take to download an SD movie?” The answer is about an hour for a 2 hour movie. However, with progressive downloading, you can begin watching your video almost instantaneously.

12.25 – Eric Lempel takes the stage (you remember him, right), to show a live demo of the video download service – it’s part of the existing PLAYSTATION Store – there’s a new video tab. Each studio has a page. Eric shows how to buy, rent, or preview a movie.

12.23 – Jack talks about the new video download service. On Day 1 – Sony Pictures, Fox, MGM, Lions Gate, Warner Brothers, Disney, and more will have content available. A huge differentiator – you can take movies and tv on the go via PSP.

sonypresser12

12.19 – Jack Tretton PlayStation Home: “Your patience will be more than rewarded.” We’ve got great publisher support on game-specific spaces. A new video is debuted showing more of what Home’s experience will be all about.

12.17 – Gran Turismo TV introduced – racing video content coming to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, shows like Top Gear and other original content in Hi Def. Gearheads will definitely be all over this. Lots of international content. Launches August 1st.

12.14 – Jack Tretton: “We’re not interested in filling up our store with games that nobody wants to play, just so we can say ‘we have the most games.'” He follows this up with a trailer showing a number of upcoming PSN games like PixelJunk Eden, Fat Princess, Crash Commando, PAIN Amusement Park, Flower, Ragdoll Kung-Fu and Siren: Blood Curse.

12.11 – 180 million pieces of downloaded content since launch. New stuff coming to the PLAYSTATION Store – Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty. “Like a summer blockbuster – high quality, less expensive.” Q4B will answer the questions to Clank’s disappearance at the end of RCF: Tools of Destruction. Price will be $14.99.

12.09 – PLAYSTATION Network – we’re instituting a single sign on this fall – online on a PC, a PSP, PS3. Check your friends list on a PC (I think a few of you have asked for that).

12.07 – New PS2 bundle coming this fall – a new Lego Batman Bundle, along with a Justice League movie, for $149.

12.03 – Let’s talk about PS2: More than 130 new titles coming to PS2. Not bad for a 9 year old system.

12.01 – Among the announcements – we’re turning our attentions to Latin America… and a announcement of PS3 Greatest Hits. Huge applause for sackboy, Alex, and LBP!

11.58 – Alex Evans of Media Molecule is out on the stage to help Jack work through the business side of things… more on this later…

sonypresser10

11.56 – Ted has left the stage, Jack Tretton is back out to talk about user generated content. “We’ve seen a glimpse of that future – it’s called LittleBigPlanet.”

11.54 – More, even huger enemies/ships shown in an R2 video. An Idaho location has been mentioned as well. Add that to Chicago, San Francisco, and the California redwood forests.

11.53 – PS video from the Press Conference will be available on PSN, you’ll wanna make sure to see this.

11.51 – Did I mention this thing is huge? Cheers from the audience as the live demo ends.

11.50 – Ted is taking on a 300 foot leviathan (you may have read about this in GamePro) with a rocket launcher. On paper it’s one thing – in full motion, it’s something else entirely…

11.48 – Here’s a look at Resistance 2, Ted Price from Insomniac Games takes the stage.

11.46 – Jack Tretton: “If PlayStation in 2007 was all about hardware, PlayStation in 2008 is all about software.”

11.45 – Jack Tretton: “The PLAYSTATION 3 is the most complete and future-proof Blu-ray player available.”

PlayStation Press Conference

11.41 – OK back in my seat, as CEO Jack Tretton reacquaints us with the history of PlayStation and Sony Computer Entertainment. “We take a longer look ahead.”

The press conference is just about to get started and I’m up on stage playing Metal Gear Solid 4. You might be able to see me as soon as G4 starts their live video stream (look to the left side of the stage).

I’ll keep updating this post with news from the event, so check back often or keep your eyes on our twitter feed for the latest.

    Who cares?
    I am sick of shooters.
I avoided the Xbox because I am tired of shooters, I avoided 360 early on because it was all shooters.
Playstation had RPGs, Platformers, and fighters.
It had a strong japanese presence and now they are going backwards and showing shooter shooter shooter shooter and crapping on the people who backed the Playstation from day one.
    Movie rentals?
    Seriously?
    Overpriced crap.
I can get most blu ray movies for 15 or less with just a little digging around.
Most have digital copy now, and if we are laying it all on the table there are countless of ways to get movies onto your PS3 and psp.

you, my friend, are the one bringing new levels of idiocy

    mirrors edge…”

Mirror’s Edge is great, but it is also multi console so why would people get it on PS3 instead of 360?

    Sony has no clue man

  • @273 ryuzx

I actually own a Wii, and play it all of maybe 3-5 hours a month on average. Yawn. I bought it because it is fun to play with family. I very rarely sit down and play it by myself. Now that Sony is putting out more family-oriented games for the PS3, I may not even keep the Wii. I’ve been keeping it around hoping that Nintendo takes it further. If I could actually FIND a Wii Fit I’d get one.

If the 360 had something that I wanted that the PS3 didn’t, I’d get one. Simple. I don’t want a 360. I didn’t want the original Xbox. Nothing has ever made we want one, and nothing yet has gotten me to buy one. Why would I want to buy an Xbox of any kind when it just plain can’t match the PS3? I’m not even hating on MS, it just can’t deliver the same experience. Yeah, Live might be better but I’m happy with PSN and it’s free. I don’t want to pay to be able to play online.

MS has had more success thus far because of their head start with the 360. But they still have given me no reason to buy their console. It’s not because I’m a Sony fanboy, though I guess I am; thus far I’ve accumulated a PS1, an original PS2 and a PS2 slim, a pair of original PSPs and now 4(!) PS3s (my family loves its games). The bottom line is that Sony has given me what I want, and then some. Period.

  • Put Suikoden 2 on the Playstation Store please!!

  • Killzone 2 IS GANNA BE SICK but whens Sonys Confrence

  • The saddest part about it is that I have been one of the most vocal Sony fanboys from day one.
When the PS3 came out I was there day one, I was the one that would argue with friends who would spout fud about the PS3, I am known as one of the strongest Sony backers on NeoGaf and the Sony forums and after every Sony failure I was the first to say “no big deal” just wait and that Sony would be fine and show us something big.
And honestly there is just nothing left.
I will buy God of War 3 when it ever hits, and there are other games that I will support but for the first time ever I will have to think about which system I pick up RE5 for as well as other games where days ago there was never a doubt.

  • Garcia5 Sony’s conference is over.

  • @”Put Suikoden 2 on the Playstation Store please!!”

I agree, or hell put any PS1 games on the PSN.
    Remember those?
Remember two years ago at E3 when we were told that they would be a main part of the PSN…

  • @447 hex….if we’re idiots so much, why are you even on the PS3 blog ?

You should be posting on the 360 blog instead.

    You can keep the 360.

  • hey hey dont forget that “the Last Remnant” is just Xbox-time-eclusive… we got it too!

    And Folklore rullz!

  • @285

The rrod may be in the past, but it’s just evidence of lower quality. I’ve not had a single problem with any of my Sony consoles since the PS1 that wasn’t caused by gravity and 5 ft. drops. You get what you pay for. I’d much rather spend a little more for a more powerful system that isn’t going to need to be replaced in 2 years (or less) when it falls apart.

  • to all the xbots….. what does ms offer that sony doesnt? what good games does ms have that sony doesnt?

now.. what i would love to see is the rrod console to try and have a game supporting 256 players… lol, will it last more than 33 sec before it dies? lol

i mean… you xbots are paying for a service… why cant xbl support 256 players?? what are you paying for??

  • @all questions about RPG’s for PS3

RPG- Eternal Sonata, Disgaea 3, FFXIII, FFXIII Versus, White Knight Chronicles, The Last Reminant, Valkyria Chronicles, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, Alpha Protocol, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 Fusion, Alien- RPG Project, Borderlands, DC Universe Online, Elveon, Free Realms, Two Worlds, X Quest… just to name a few that are for sure coming to PS3

    RPG- possibles for PS3
    Star Ocean 4, Infinite Undiscovery

This, of course, does not contain all the RPG’s for PS3 coming soon. E3 is going on all week. They will be making announcements all week.

  • @hex they already showed it on G4

  • GOW III will go multiplatform too…..

  • [[You idiots who keep saying “we have FFXIII too are sad and pathetic.]]

Oh, I get it now. Let’s try to force people to buy a console by hijacking third party games. If people don’t want a PS3, you can’t MAKE them buy one by keeping a game hostage…ESPECIALLY A THIRD PARTY GAME.

[[Only a complete drooling idiot would buy a PS3 for FFXIII now when you can get it on the 360 that they already own.]]

The people who buy a PS3 for FF13 only are ALREADY drooling idiots. If you don’t want the console, one game doesn’t make it worth it. I loved Ace Combat but I didn’t want an Xbox 360 just to play it. The solution was to stop playing Ace Combat games. That is what would have happened with FF13. Most people would just play other games anyway.

If you feel that the PS3 NEEDS to hold third party games hostage then perhaps you should get a different console. Personally, I choose a console based on FIRST PARTY titles and assume that all major third party titles will be multiplatform anyway. It just so happens that I like God of War and Socom more than I like Halo and Ninja Gaiden. Otherwise, I couldn’t care less about the logo on the hardware. I just want the games.

  • to all the people that said that PS3 has no more RPGs…CAN YOU READ!!! They said at the bottom of the screen that FF13 versus is still a PS3 exclusive!!! And FF13 is a exclusive in Japan still.

  • Man, I’m not sure, I think, aside from the FFXIII bomb, Sony, gave us a decent amount of reasons to stay on the dark side, I like shooters and all that stuff, but PS is known for RPGS’s, but they’re lacking now, we need RPG’s Sony!

I love all you guy’s showed, but WE NEED RPG’s.

  • @355

I could give a rat’s behind about whether a 360 owner can play FF now. Good for them, they’ll get a lower quality version or a 6 DVD set.

  • jack was freaking awkward! someone needs to get that guy a drink. you know he’s never held a controller much less played a video game. well maybe a PS2 controller, he was pretty psyched about all the new PS2 games! WTF LET IT GO MAN! why would you hype a previous generation console, 360 is kicking our ass! did you see the MS conference, it was BA! i know where on a 10 year plan here but i want some fun now. guess it was a good day if you’re a Resistance or Rachet & Clank fan… BAH!!

  • That’s great but, where’s Tekken 6?

  • WE NEED RPG’s.

  • @447 hex

    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/caliber

As much as Namco might like it to be, calibur isn’t a word — at least not in the English language.

  • Man ,Sony ,I am with you 100% …..but you really dont have a clue.

So you are making the 80Gb the core version due to high demand of that model …..but you remove the BC.The 80Gb is demanded BECAUSE of the BC not for the extra 40Gb man.You are either unable to see reality or just stupid enough to fool yourselves in what you think is more convenient for you.Man ,you really dont have a clue of how the market breathes right now …

Plus ,Playstation kicked Xbox butt because it had lots more of game diversity. Now you permit MS to steal all our RPGs and bribe SE and other developers into not releasing the games in our consoles until a year later…and the only thing you do to counter this is release FPS after FPS with some FPS Online between for good measure.React Sony !!!At least buy one or two RPG developers exclusively for your console ,show White Knight Story in the E3!Do SOMETHING!!

I am dissappointed. Not because FFXIII ,that I will get anyway in my console, but becasue Sony you are showing you dont know what the public want.We have dozens of FPS and not even 1 JRPG ,and you keep losing JRPG after JRPG and annoucing FPS after FPS.And the 80Gb backwards compatibility thing ….man you really dont have a clue of why that model is popular??

  • @ 461 decimilator

Cool, I’m glad you have a Wii. If you don’t play it much, then I’m not sure why. But, that’s your call. As for the PS3, I can’t imagine why you’d need 4…

I hated the original Xbox; I’m with you on that. I’ve taken advantage of the 360’s backwards compatibility for just Jet Set Radio Future, Fable Lost Chapers, Silent Hill 2, and Burnout Takedown. The 360 offers a large range of XBLA and retail games, and is a lot of fun—it is nothing like the disappointment of the first Xbox. You can claim that it offers little, because of some bias, a self-fulfilling prophecy of your own delusion, but the system is really good and is doing well for reasons beyond its headstart in the marketplace. Dreamcast was a solid little system too, and it had a headstart, and yet it failed. The 360 surpasses the PS3 right now, and these E3 conferences prove it. And Live is far superior to PSN, taking all of its services into account (at least in the US, I’m sorry foreigners!), with a team that gets the job done right, instead of ONE update a week with pathetic content the norm when it ever finally goes up. And it isn’t just a boon for consumers, judging by the exclusivity deal for DLC with Rockstar and Bethesda.

I own both systems (all 3 counting the Wii, and both portables too), so I can speak from actual experience and vested consumer interest, meaning I have no desire for any of these expensive gaming devices to fail, but clearly the PS3 isn’t pulling ahead. It’s barely pulling up the rear as a gaming experience. I find it ironic, the Xbox was dismissed for being a shooter-fest last generation, and now Sony is following that path in this one. If it weren’t for bluray… Speaking of which, I’m with you on post 477, which is why I fully intend on getting FFXIII on the PS3.

Hey, SCEA—release more PSOne games while we wait for some solid PSP (and PS3) games! If you can release Jumping Flash! you can release Intelligent Qube… seriously.

  • Have to say…sorely disappointed. Not much new. I tip my hat to MS on this one.

  • @ Diomedes1977

what in Gods name r you on about? Xbox will now get FF XIII and it spells the end of the world? did you even watch the conference? Did you not see/hear that Sony has MORE exclusive than ANY of the competition? Some of you are pretty darn daft if you ask me.

  • Ah, sadly this conference fell short of greatness. After watching Microsoft and Nintendo’s conferences, I thought that there was NO WAY that Sony could do anything BUT kill it. But unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

The focus was for games on the horizon. What am I going to buy for it THIS year? Yes, I know that MotorStorm and Resistance are this year, but MotorStorm, Socom and other 08 titles were glossed over. And the game that WAS focused in on, which I WANTED to see more of ruined a huge part of the game! I understand that 3rd party exclusives are a thing of the past (for Sony at least) but at least focus on the big ones. And was there a reason that Rock Band wasn’t even shown in the games reel? The lack of new Killzone info will be seen as admitting that there’s not much confidence in it. Where’s Heavy Rain? WarDevil? Imagine if 8 days and the Getaway were still in production, this could have been a killer holiday season! As it stands, it’ll be the Resistance 2/Ratchet and Clank QforB show. Microsoft doesn’t have much else over Sony…but they did a heck of a job making it SEEM like they did.

  • Sony I want to give you some ideas for the PSP2 seeing as you are not giving the people what they want now.

The PSP2 needs another analog stick and this time more a stick over a nub. Make the R2 & L2 buttons on the game. Have a built in camera, GPS, Mic, motion sensors, touch screen. So look at the Iphone for ideas and the DS too. Also allow some home brew but not so games can be pirated. Have a hard drive and built in memory too. Plus allow PSP games to be played on the PSP2 and make the UMDs go away and have the mimi blu ray disks instead. Make sure lots of third party make games and more first party too.

Plus how about this time make GT come out on the PSP2 other then just be a fake video to get people to buy the system. Also help Nap team finish Gekido for the PSP and get Capcom to make a RE and DMC game on the PSP too.

I also want more PS Eye games. There can be more then just EOJ that use the Eye. Also make Eydentify finally come out.

Also even though I want more hard core games then casual look at MS Lips looks better then Singstar make SS better. Plus Buzz needs to become better too scene it looks great plus it uses there camera too. If you want casual gamers at least make your games look good other then a piece of crap.

I wish I did not buy the PS Eye if only EOJ was going to be the only game that used it. I want those sweet looking tech demos that were shown at GDC to be real and not just a tech demo.

  • Portable ID is at least partially available now:

    http://www.us.playstation.com/PSN/Users/decimalator

  • @482 ryuzx

I do agree about more PS1 games, especially … … MGS!. I’m surprised they didn’t release it leading up to the MGS4 launch.

If you’re happy with the 360 then that’s great. That’s what it’s all about, in the end. I just have not yet been persuaded to buy one when all the games I want are already on the PS3.

  • Sony cares…

…about deleting comments that are critical of themselves.

Seriously, you guys need to get a freaking clue and figure out which way is up if you ever want to salvage second place in the console generation.

  • My comment got cut off this is the rest.

I also want you to make the Eye Toy games from the PS2 get new version on the PS3 and they will work with the PS Eye. Make this stuff happen. People did by it after all.

PSP trophies how hard is it to ask that the PSP get them too. If not for the PSP at least make sure the PSP2 uses them. Day one not a few years later.

The PSP needs more colors make them.

Heavenly Sword 2 were is it. Heavy Rain were is it. I want more info on what future plans for Qore are. So far there is nothing to make me buy it.

Start doing some thing good people did waste there money after all.

  • Looks like the beginnings of the Portable ID support is already available.

    http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Network/PID

You just have to login, link your PSU account to your PSN account and voila!

Thus far… neat. But it has potential!

  • Was anyone else half-expecting the CEO of Square-Enix to come onto the stage at the end, tap Jack Tretton on the shoulder, and reveal to him a Final Fantasy VII remake for the PS3, or at least a trailer for Final Fantasy Versus XIII?

  • wow, so I just finished watching the Sony presentation, and I’m dazed by it, this is what i call a comeback, it was great, not to mention the great line up, or the movie services coming to the ps3 TONIGHT!!!! but the way Sony brought the goodies in a platinum platter for example resistance 2 is a great way to kick off the presentation, the game looks amazing, adding the resistance for PSP, and god of war, awesome. way to say screw you Microsoft lol.

  • Q re: the 80GB “Core” PS3…

Is it the same hardware as the 40GB PS3 w/ a larger hard drive, or a price drop on the 80GB PS3 already out?

    so true.

  • Well the general feedback seems to be overwhelmingly negative, and with good reason.

Maybe Sony will finally take its thumb out of its collective [DELETED]and [DELETED] do something!!!

PS2 titles? movies? who fcking cares?!

People will leave the platform in droves after this!

  • Jeff I saw on the discovery channel on cool stuff and how its made a preview of the power of the PS3 and how it is perfect in motion capturing and sport video games. It also shows the power of the PS3 cell calculations. so why we weren’t told about that to look forward to it. I mean this things (making it into a discovery show) is pretty awesome for the PS and its fans.

You should include such things with “we read around the web” you can say “read around the media” and include TV shows also.
