12.29 – “How long will it take to download an SD movie?” The answer is about an hour for a 2 hour movie. However, with progressive downloading, you can begin watching your video almost instantaneously.

12.25 – Eric Lempel takes the stage (you remember him, right), to show a live demo of the video download service – it’s part of the existing PLAYSTATION Store – there’s a new video tab. Each studio has a page. Eric shows how to buy, rent, or preview a movie.

12.23 – Jack talks about the new video download service. On Day 1 – Sony Pictures, Fox, MGM, Lions Gate, Warner Brothers, Disney, and more will have content available. A huge differentiator – you can take movies and tv on the go via PSP.

sonypresser12

12.19 – Jack Tretton PlayStation Home: “Your patience will be more than rewarded.” We’ve got great publisher support on game-specific spaces. A new video is debuted showing more of what Home’s experience will be all about.

12.17 – Gran Turismo TV introduced – racing video content coming to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, shows like Top Gear and other original content in Hi Def. Gearheads will definitely be all over this. Lots of international content. Launches August 1st.

12.14 – Jack Tretton: “We’re not interested in filling up our store with games that nobody wants to play, just so we can say ‘we have the most games.'” He follows this up with a trailer showing a number of upcoming PSN games like PixelJunk Eden, Fat Princess, Crash Commando, PAIN Amusement Park, Flower, Ragdoll Kung-Fu and Siren: Blood Curse.

12.11 – 180 million pieces of downloaded content since launch. New stuff coming to the PLAYSTATION Store – Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty. “Like a summer blockbuster – high quality, less expensive.” Q4B will answer the questions to Clank’s disappearance at the end of RCF: Tools of Destruction. Price will be $14.99.

12.09 – PLAYSTATION Network – we’re instituting a single sign on this fall – online on a PC, a PSP, PS3. Check your friends list on a PC (I think a few of you have asked for that).

12.07 – New PS2 bundle coming this fall – a new Lego Batman Bundle, along with a Justice League movie, for $149.

12.03 – Let’s talk about PS2: More than 130 new titles coming to PS2. Not bad for a 9 year old system.

12.01 – Among the announcements – we’re turning our attentions to Latin America… and a announcement of PS3 Greatest Hits. Huge applause for sackboy, Alex, and LBP!

11.58 – Alex Evans of Media Molecule is out on the stage to help Jack work through the business side of things… more on this later…

sonypresser10

11.56 – Ted has left the stage, Jack Tretton is back out to talk about user generated content. “We’ve seen a glimpse of that future – it’s called LittleBigPlanet.”

11.54 – More, even huger enemies/ships shown in an R2 video. An Idaho location has been mentioned as well. Add that to Chicago, San Francisco, and the California redwood forests.

11.53 – PS video from the Press Conference will be available on PSN, you’ll wanna make sure to see this.

11.51 – Did I mention this thing is huge? Cheers from the audience as the live demo ends.

11.50 – Ted is taking on a 300 foot leviathan (you may have read about this in GamePro) with a rocket launcher. On paper it’s one thing – in full motion, it’s something else entirely…

11.48 – Here’s a look at Resistance 2, Ted Price from Insomniac Games takes the stage.

11.46 – Jack Tretton: “If PlayStation in 2007 was all about hardware, PlayStation in 2008 is all about software.”

11.45 – Jack Tretton: “The PLAYSTATION 3 is the most complete and future-proof Blu-ray player available.”

PlayStation Press Conference

11.41 – OK back in my seat, as CEO Jack Tretton reacquaints us with the history of PlayStation and Sony Computer Entertainment. “We take a longer look ahead.”

The press conference is just about to get started and I’m up on stage playing Metal Gear Solid 4. You might be able to see me as soon as G4 starts their live video stream (look to the left side of the stage).

I’ll keep updating this post with news from the event, so check back often or keep your eyes on our twitter feed for the latest.

  • GGCAN,

Why did I buy the PS3… FOR GAMING!!!

Sony can try and delude us all they want… but I bought my PS3 for gaming and gaming alone. All the other features are “icing” on the cake.

Wireless… I don’t use wireless for gaming online… I’m betting most people don’t. It’s hardly stable enough and the throughput you get on wireless sucks. Hell, truth be told, I don’t even play online. I have no use for it. I prefer to have people sitting next to me, who I can see, and more importantly, hit, when they kill me… and they kill me well :P

Blu-Ray. Yes, it’s a fine Blu-Ray player. And “future proof” too… however, until it manifests a “SLEEP” function… I avoid using it over my NON-up converting DVD player so I can fall asleep watching a movie and not have to worry it spinning all night long. Aside from that, you just watch.. Walmart will have some super cheap Blu-Ray players soon enough… They’ve already started.

Let’s be real. I’m a gamer, we all are gamers, first and foremost, otherwise, we wouldn’t be here and Sony has forgotten what gamers want.

I’m far too invested in my PS3 (30+ games and more Blu-Ray’s than I can shake a stick at) but at the end of the day, I’ll be buying all future games for the 360 and buy the handful of games that interest me on the PS3. Resident Evil on the 360, Final Fantasy on the 360, Star Ocean on the 360, Infinite Undiscovery on the 360, hell, I could play Alone in the Dark right now if I want (Thanks Phil :/).

I want to play MY music to the games I play. I want to have a unified point system that works across EVERY game, not just “select” games. I want a company who does things for the gamer first and everything else second.

Anyway, I’m rambling on and on, like I usually do so I’ll just shut up now.

  • TristanMike…totally understand and it’s your decision.

For me, I don’t want to pay the online gaming fee that the 360 has and that’s another reason I staying with the PS3.

It’s your money, you do what you want…

Personally, I’m sticking with this brand.

  • Can’t wait for LBP and the Agency

  • Just as an added point, I use wireless always on the PS3 and my online gaming is really good.

Sure at times a bit of lagging, but normally all is fine.

I check my Network settings often though and normally it states I’m at 100 % so that may be some other people’s problems….their signal strength isn’t great.

  • Also agree with TristanMike that playing with others in the same room so you can talk and hit them is really fun.

However, now that I have many other PS3 friends all over the world, is one other reason the Online gaming feature is a big deal to me.

  • òk i dont know whats happening with sony, but im going to be very honest in here, im getting tired of waiting and waiting and waiting and more waiting now we dont have ff13 as exclusive anymore, its a 3rd party but sony should get a hold of it and they didnt do it.. Now that sony conference is finally over i dont see any comments about that on the conference or on in this blog and as a user a LOYAL USER im EXPECTING at least just a comment about WHAT HAPPENED THERE…

because i bet most of us (ME INCLUDED) get a PS3 to play exclusives like that in particular, like it happen on the ps2 at his time, and i dont want to hear from another users that sony doesnt have the fault or is squares fault and things like that, because i know that already.

I just want to know directly from sony themselves why they allow to that to happen and stop ignoring us and our complains, at least we as loyal fans to you (SONY) deserves a explanation of the occured and im not the tipical loyal fan who post in here and thing because i really support your console and games and i can prove that… i have around 100 ps1 games, around 170 ps2 games and around 20 ps3 games all ORIGINALS you can check my profile in gametrailers if you like, and my final fantasy collection which i think its very big tho all from sony systems, which i spent my hard earned money on them…

Im not asking for a new game or anything im just asking to respect us as a loyal fans and tell us WHY THIS THING HAPPEN and you didnt do anything about it..

    This is Waiting??

    A Transition generation??

    false promises?

    expectations to high?

Its funny to see here and everywhere from sony that ff13 on 360 didnt happen and its not important to them…

  • GRRRR.couple of things:
#578:As for LBP, it looks like fum for 10min, after that…..bargin bin…..

Try to come up with something innovative and new in the world of gaming

WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK LITTLE BIG PLANET IS?
it’s the most innovative and original thing i’ve seen in a long time. design your own levels, share with your friends, play together, i mean it takes everything we love about gaming and social interaction and puts them in one package with a cute face on it, to boot…you’re just crazy…
speaking of crazy, who are these people who want to listen to their own music while playing video games? those composers worked real hard on coming up with scores, and you’re just gonna turn them off for Matchbox 20 and Coldplay? turn the volume down and turn on your radio then. sheesh.

  • btw its not the only thing sony do to me this generation, my hdmi broke because of one of the FW upgrades (2.0) and they dont want to fix my ps3 because the warranty is off when is sonys fault its not mine and expect me to pay $150..

its funny that when i post this problem on the ps3 forums all the users told me that i have to pay for that…

one thing is to be loyal another is to be a blinded fanboy…

  • See your point GunPR…but you know, any other product that is no longer under warrany, will do the same as Sony.

I know I had a problem years back on my car. Kept asking about that problem when it was under warranty and the company couldn’t advise me.

Then when the warranty was off, one of their people asked why I didn’t have it fixed while it was still under warrantly.

I don’t think this only applies to Sony.

  • @GGCAN

so you are going to be ok to pay $150 if the FW 2.4 as an current example, leaves your ps3 useless, like it happen to some users>???

and then in some future happen again and you have to pay $150 more??

one thing is user negligence another thing is bad support….

  • GunPR….I guess I’d have to if the warranty is off.

Samething happened with my car, but it wasn’t $150….it was around $1500.

I didn’t like it, but that’s what warranties are for.

Also, many others have upgraded and not had the problem you’re mentioning, so I don’t know how true your point about 2.4 causing this situation.

  • “If this is year 2 of the PS3 life cycle, imagine how many exclusives we will lose to M$ by year 10.”

This is how i interpret it.

  • @GC_Rock, HA-LE-LU-JAA _O_, finally someone who agrees with me about in-game music and you’ve literally pulled the words outta my mouth. I never use in-game music as I love to listen to the sounds the composers have created in the game. I couldn’t imagine to shut down the amazing soundtracks of for example Oblivion, Ratchet & Clank or Uncharted. You’ll destroy the entire original atmosphere in the game, IMO. Its different in a race game like Burnout Paradise, though, since official music from artists have been put in. I even buy original game soundtracks from several games as the sounds gave me so much impression. I wish there was a disc version of Uncharted :-(

I also fully agree with you about LBP, to me the game is very innovative, original and creative. Something you simply don’t see very often and especially not on other consoles. With LBP Sony sure has a strong exclusive title in their hands.

  • @GGCAN dude im not lying you are not going to find a sony supporter like me around here… i bet you that, heres my proof on that:
    http://gunpr.gametrailers.com/gamepad/index.php?action=viewblog&id=167393

but i feel like sony slap in my face..

thats not a excuse that the warranty is off, they broke my HDMI port or corrupt or something happen (software related), I DONT KNOW the cause of it the only thing i know that is broken and it doesnt work ON ANY HDTV and i did try everything and its 2.0 FAULT thats FOR SURE, it was working fine i install the FW and it stop working from nowhere since that FW upgrade…

why i use 2.4 as a example because it was the recent FW which cause some problems and it was proven and sony recognize it and the thing put some ps3 USELESS, NOT ALL PS3’s but some…

  • @GGCAN
why i use FW 2.4 as a example?
the thing is proven to leave some PS3 useless (BRICKED) after the update, sony acknowledge it, and you still have to pay for that if you dont have a warranty? ITS NOT YOUR FAULT ITS SONYS FAULT the USER NEEDS TO UPDATE THE SYSTEM TO USE IT.. YOU DONT HAVE ANY MORE CHOICES DO YOU>>?? SO IN THE END IS SONYS FAULT… (OPS CAPS lol)

my hdmi port is useless because of fw 2.0, try everything and nothing its not me and is not the TVS i test the thing, the thing (HDMI) simply doesnt work…

  • btw, SONY IM WAITING READ MY COMMENT 606

  • GunPR….and many didn’t have any problems is all I’m saying.

I’m wondering as well….did you rush and get the 2.4 update from another site other than Sony ?

Some people did and I read the Sony legal stuff….they say it must come from Sony.

If anyone had that problem as they couldn’t wait for Sony to put the firmware out officially and downloaded from another site…..YES it is their fault.

  • okay how did the firmware break your usb?

  • @GGCAN
    ok some points:

1: 2.4 its PROVEN EVEN THE OWN SONY
SAY IT, that it cause some errors to some ps3 leaveing the PS# USELESS AFTER THE UPDATE i think its in this blog around, search for it.

2: dude i get my FW’s from the OWN PS3 update option.

3: im saying 2.0 leave MY HDMI PORT useless without apparently reason and sony expects me to pay for that… (HELL NO) ..|.. that to them

4: im still waiting from sony to answer my comment 606 XD.

  • forgot to mention they fix it with the 2.41

  • GunPR…ok….can you answer Land of Trill’s question ?

I would love to know as well.

    thanks,

I feel for you really, but for some reason I just don’t agree with you…sorry.

  • Can someone please give Sony a map!!

Is it really so difficult to say that the UNITED STATES will get the movie download service? Why does Sony continually think that “North America” equals “United States of America”. Just like “everyone” will get the Warhawk participant’s knife in the tourney… well as it turned out, Canadians and Mexicans are “nobody”.

When a service or product is region specific – SPELL IT OUT. Don’t imply though omission that “everybody” will get something when you mean “USA” or “Japan” will get it.

… and when will Canadians get the movie service?.. any timeline?… or is it like Home and we’ll just get vague dates and continual delays until we give up and realize we’re jut not going to get it at all?

  • still forgot to mention
the thing they fix was the 2.4 leaving ps3 bricked, no my hdmi port, the still is useless since 2.0

  • It was great! glad to hear about MAG but heres the big question…WERE ARE ALL THE RPGs!? WHAT HAPPEND TO THEM!? PS3 is the perfect system for RPGs so were are they? we herd just about little to nothing about any new RPGs or any we already new about but havent releasd yet. so plez show us some within the next few comming months.

  • @GGCAn

see thats the problem i found with sony’s users..

to bad,,, check me out on gametrailers same nick read my blogs, see my collections found out how much im lying XD

thats the attitude i love from us..

I DONT AGREED WITH YOU, IM THE BEST PAY TO GET YOUR ps3 FIXED..

blah blah… now i knows how i do looks like XD

  • Go Elsa Go !!!! :D

As a fellow Canadian, I’m also tired of equating North America with just the US of A. Don’t get me wrong, I love our brothers to the south, but come on… we’re only 33 Million people up here and Mexico has like 100 Million…. :/

  • I feel for you to man I had a disc reading problem and I was going to have to pay the price but it was hardware which not to firmware but anyway I did a full format after I backed up my info and it worked it ever ran better than before then I installed 2.41 I didn’t have any problems with 2.40 and I have the 60GB model just put a different HDD in it but have you tried a different HDMI cable cause that what I’m using and I have know problems

  • @land

dude trust when i say i did EVERYTHING and i mean EVERYTHING.

    – reset video
    – quick/full format
    – different HDMI cables
    – different HDTV’s

the funny thing is that i connect the cable to the damn TV and it recognize the HDMI is connected and ask me if i want to switch i click yes and just get a black screen thats all…

im telling you i just install 2.0 seee whats new on the FW play for awhile turn the ps3 off when i turn it back on no HDMI signal no video/audio…

since that time i cannot use my HDMI…

  • Oh man, I’m really disappointed with the new model, and that there will be only 2 USB ports and no flash card reader/ ps2 compatible / SACD support on any model going forward… is that really the strategy that you want to follow?

I know that you will probably break even with that model soon, once they are 45nm, but still, very disappointing, I have held out on my PS3 purchase, as it did not have all those features that I wanted including 45nm Cell & RSX… But now I find out that the ideal system I was hoping to buy will never even exist :-( Can you at lease produce a few of the old 80GB models, but with 45nm Cell and RSX so I can buy one? lol

  • the future of sony’s console rocks!!

I don’t know if I’m the only one but I’m not getting the “Video” option on the playstation store, there’s only some kind of banner that’s not linked to the movies section!!

  • GunPR ok last comment….gotta let these others post.

This may not be what your problem is….but did you check the Settings for Display…use Custom…..in there it asks what your TV can display….480P, 720P, 1080i 1080P.

If you have a 720P TV and checked of 1080P, your PS3 won’t display.

It mentions it onscreen I think.

    If it’s 720P…select everything but 1080P.

May not be your problem, but just in case it is…I wanted to post.

  • @GGCAN

all the tvs i test are full 1080p, but when i use the component cable i have or the simple yellow/red/white it doesnt let me select custom (resolution) it detect the hdmi it asks me to change to hdmi, but this is the intriguing part it doesnt let me choose any resolution like it does before that update..

  • GunPR….ok….I use HDMI too, but I still have the option….under Setting, Display settings…..HDMI but then it goes to Auto and I have to manually select Custom..

If you don’t see that option, I’m not sure what to advise you. (I see it still).

  • GunPR…do you have both HDMI and component hooked at same time ?

Not sure, but I don’t think you can do that on PS3.

I know other hardware I have, tells me not to attach both type of cables, only use one, but some hardware does allow connection of both types.

I only have HDMI hooked on mine.

  • @GGCAN i do the same thing every fw since 2.0 to see if the thing gets fixed but not luck. every time a new fw comes out i do the same thing..

i use my component cable that i currently use to display the ps3 on my tv, put the hdmi on the ps3 go to custom select hdmi (doesnt let me choose any resolution) looks like it wants to do it auto by itself and nothing, dont show me auto or custom or choose any resolution like i do before that fw update 2.0…

and you are saying me your ps3 let you choose the resolution before changing to hdmi from analog or component??

wtf its going on here then…

  • @GGCAN
i use it to see the option when the changing to hdmi screen appears i take out the analog or component cable to and press ok with the controller and nothing..

  • Yep….I see HDMI….click…then see Auto and Custom below that….I select Custom and then it shows me all the options.

Mine is still there….not sure why you can’t see it.

I have 2.41 installed as well.

  • @GGCAN but it let you choose the resolution before or after you change to hdmi from component, or just when you are using HDMI only, remember that i cannot use HDMI and it doesnt let me choose a resolution while changing from component/analog to hdmi it just say want to change to hdmi yes or no…
    no custom resolutions option..

  • GunPR….have always used HDMI…..never hooked up my PS3 any other way as it’s the best resolution.

The option is still there for me and it lets me still choose that option and change it if I want.

    I don’t know why it won’t allow you…stumped.

Maybe remove all but HDMI….reboot and see what happens ?

Can’t help other than that advice GunPR, but sure hope it’s fixed for you soon.

  • Whatever happened to the ‘huge’ partnership with NCSoft? We heard a lot about this last year but nothing at all recently.

  • SONY! I highly recommend
    that you put a good
    FFXIII trailer at your
    E3download section at the
psStore – You need to show
    that FFX13 IS A PS3 GAME,
    the one that appeared at
    MS’s last moment would be
    a good one, but change
    the ending saying it goes
    to the ps3. More ps3
    owners need to realize
that its should be played on
the ps3, its where its home is.
And it would be nice to see a well rendered trailer from
    FFX13, its always good graphics.

PLEASE!! PUT A FFX13 TRAILER AVAILABE FOR DOWNLOAD IN THE PS STORE!!! ITS THE LEAST YOU CAN DO AT THE MOMENT!

  • I’d like to say that I think the guy who did the Sony speech was extremely rude and a jerk. His joke about Jack Palance was extremely rude and uncalled for as one other joke he did. When he joked about Jack Palance I thought the guy was a jerk and got mad at him. I do not like him and wish he would do a public apology and sincerely mean it. His comment even got some boos and not a laugh really.

I also did not like the show in generral that much. I think it was just ok and i didn’t care about anything announced really except a couple cool looking games.

I like the video rental service, but won’t be using it.

One thing i want Sony to do is fix the browsing network feature for when wanting to watch videos and listen to music on the network. It keeps cached or something the list of what is on the lan even if it’s not there and this ticks me off. i have a video folder on my pc and delete videos from it all the time. When wanting to watch a video the playstation 3 still shows stuff even if it’s not there. I’ll go into the fvideo folder and it shows what is there. If I delete files from the folder on my pc the playstation still shows them all for a long time and then eventually will update. So sony must fix this.

  • awesome conference Sony job well done…..did u guys see how many exclusives are coming to ps3? and they’re all KICK ASS….RESISTANCE 2, KILLZONE 2,MPR,MAG,GOW3,SOCOM,RACHET,INFAMOUS and not to mention 3rd part games like fallout 3 and mirrors edge…man im going broke buying all these games

  • Man, you’d think sony would look at the obvious things that people say in this blog. Like more online features like xbox live. Now… i think im gonna get… a Xbox *yawn* ill get LBP and FFXIII for ps3 oh and infamous, KZ2 and R2 >.> i hate GoW. Lol Jack its certainly not the year of the ps3 and making the ps3 last 10 years? come on, at this rate it should be 4 years. Maybe you should drop the whole home thing cause its dead already and pay for exclusives like other companies do oh idk… Microsoft? It’s smart for them cause their first party is no other than trash. Sony, imo has the best first party… but id rather have those good third party titles exclusive titles. Xbox has the better multimedia system, online system and so forth. Only thing they lack is the disc space… which is phasing them atm. Come on FFXIII on 4-6 disc? Ill get it on ps3 thank you >.> Sony you need to also makes those people who have multiple systems make ps3 their main system. Music sync is nice to have my brother has xbox and makes it play over NG2’s sucky music and dmc4 repetitive track. You need better online utilization in-game things are most important but they are under the games. Ps3 is mostly a blu-ray player til 09 i suppose.

  • where is white knight story? this was the only game I wanted to see (except for resistance)
I’ve read it will be shown. Wrong announcement or will it be shown later?

  • This is really pathetic from Sony, all these comments and not one single reply…how childish can they be, are they sulking???

  • Simple fact XBOX 360 Has less space per disc than the PS3, Why are you (Sony) allowing the game Developers to write to such small discs, you should be the industry standard when it comes to Dev for a game but instead it seems that you are accepting second place (Actually third if you throw the craptastic WII into the equation) Force the fact that game developers are ripping us off by writing to the 360 first and PS3 Sec everyone should know Blu-ray discs are superior.

  • I for one am thoroughly impressed with Sony’s E3 ’08 conference. I would have liked to see more playable demos, but you guys owned Microsoft’s A**!

Oh, Btw…Little Big Planet looks more amazing than I could ever imagine. Killzone 2 are you kidding me? that looks sweet too. And don’t get me started on Resistance, or motorstorm. Kratos…you killed that trailer and there was no gameplay!

  • Wow you lot really are a load of WHINERS.

Sony, i loved it. Great conference, great games. Thanks. Couldn’t have done better IMHO

  • @Onna_76
