1.04 – “If this is year 2 of the PS3 life cycle, imagine what year 10 will bring.” Jack signs off. What did you think?

1.02 – MAG trailer shown. It bears repeating – 256 players! Land and air battles going on (with paratroopers), really, it’s pretty huge. Big applause.

12.59 – A brand new game revealed for the first time – MAG. Andy Beaudoin from Zipper Interactive details this Massive Action Game (get it?). MAG will support up to 256 players (!) MAG is squad-based, with teams broken down into 8 players, with fine-tuned soldier types, ongoing campaigns and character growth.

12.58 – InFamous – it’s up to you to save or destroy an entire city. Trailer shown with in-game footage. Looks awesome, though I invite you to judge for yourself when you see the video. Out Spring 09.

12.57 – Now a look of what’s to come: God of War III trailer shown! “In the end, there will be only chaos.”

12.55 – Now to show the games, in montage: LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, 007 Quantum of Solace, SOCOM Confrontation, Ghostbusters, Soul Calibur IV (Vader!!), Resistance 2, The Agency, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, Mirror’s Edge, Resident Evil 5, Singstar, Guitar Hero World Tour, NBA 09 The Inside, Buzz! 12.51 – Developers from Treyarch, EA Tiburon, Ubisoft, Bethesda, 2K Marin, and Lucas Arts are shown on video talking about how much more they’ve learned about programming for the PS3, and how that’s going to pay off in games like Far Cry 2, The Force Unleashed, Prince of Persia, Call of Duty World at War, Madden NFL 09, and Fallout 3. “We’re just beginning to scratch the surface of what PS3 is capable of.”

12.48 – New Hardware package: the 80 GB Core Pack coming this fall $399 – 40 more GB at that price, plus DualShock 3.

12.46 – Lee: “You can stop imagining now.” Video shown featuring lots of DC Legends like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Joker, and more.

12.43 – Mr. Lee is a HUGE MMO fan, been playing since Everquest began… so this is a dream project for him. “Imagine being able to create your own superhero… and help Batman take on the Joker… that’s a cool image.”

12.41 – SOE – Sony Online Entertainment – bringing titles to PlayStation 3. Jim Lee (of comic book fame) on stage now to preview DC Universe online. He’s doing 1-armed push-ups. Don’t hurt your inking hand!

12.39 – “Let’s return to PLAYSTATION 3” – Life with PlayStation will provide live news, weather, and more and it’ll be available by the end of the month.

DSCN0405

12.35 With an install base of over 35 million worldwide, many more PSP games are on the way. Montage shown, featuring Patapon 2, The Force Unleashed, Super Stardust Portable, Madden 09, LocoRoco 2, NBA 09 The Inside, Lego Batman, and Buzz Master Quiz.

12.33 – For the first time ever revealed – Resistance for PSP… Resistance Retribution! Out Spring 2009.

12.31 – On to the PSP – announcing a new PSP Entertainment Pack – in October we’ll launch the Ratchet & Clank Size Matters pack, which includes the PSP-2000, National Treasure 2, a 1GB memory card, and echochrome.

12.30 – Eric demonstrates how to copy movies to the PSP. You can do this either through a PS3, or through the PC Store. BTW, this video download service will be available TONIGHT (applause). We’ll be adding new titles each week.

12.29 – “How long will it take to download an SD movie?” The answer is about an hour for a 2 hour movie. However, with progressive downloading, you can begin watching your video almost instantaneously.

12.25 – Eric Lempel takes the stage (you remember him, right), to show a live demo of the video download service – it’s part of the existing PLAYSTATION Store – there’s a new video tab. Each studio has a page. Eric shows how to buy, rent, or preview a movie.

12.23 – Jack talks about the new video download service. On Day 1 – Sony Pictures, Fox, MGM, Lions Gate, Warner Brothers, Disney, and more will have content available. A huge differentiator – you can take movies and tv on the go via PSP.

sonypresser12

12.19 – Jack Tretton PlayStation Home: “Your patience will be more than rewarded.” We’ve got great publisher support on game-specific spaces. A new video is debuted showing more of what Home’s experience will be all about.

12.17 – Gran Turismo TV introduced – racing video content coming to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, shows like Top Gear and other original content in Hi Def. Gearheads will definitely be all over this. Lots of international content. Launches August 1st.

12.14 – Jack Tretton: “We’re not interested in filling up our store with games that nobody wants to play, just so we can say ‘we have the most games.'” He follows this up with a trailer showing a number of upcoming PSN games like PixelJunk Eden, Fat Princess, Crash Commando, PAIN Amusement Park, Flower, Ragdoll Kung-Fu and Siren: Blood Curse.

12.11 – 180 million pieces of downloaded content since launch. New stuff coming to the PLAYSTATION Store – Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty. “Like a summer blockbuster – high quality, less expensive.” Q4B will answer the questions to Clank’s disappearance at the end of RCF: Tools of Destruction. Price will be $14.99.

12.09 – PLAYSTATION Network – we’re instituting a single sign on this fall – online on a PC, a PSP, PS3. Check your friends list on a PC (I think a few of you have asked for that).

12.07 – New PS2 bundle coming this fall – a new Lego Batman Bundle, along with a Justice League movie, for $149.

12.03 – Let’s talk about PS2: More than 130 new titles coming to PS2. Not bad for a 9 year old system.

12.01 – Among the announcements – we’re turning our attentions to Latin America… and a announcement of PS3 Greatest Hits. Huge applause for sackboy, Alex, and LBP!

11.58 – Alex Evans of Media Molecule is out on the stage to help Jack work through the business side of things… more on this later…

sonypresser10

11.56 – Ted has left the stage, Jack Tretton is back out to talk about user generated content. “We’ve seen a glimpse of that future – it’s called LittleBigPlanet.”

11.54 – More, even huger enemies/ships shown in an R2 video. An Idaho location has been mentioned as well. Add that to Chicago, San Francisco, and the California redwood forests.

11.53 – PS video from the Press Conference will be available on PSN, you’ll wanna make sure to see this.

11.51 – Did I mention this thing is huge? Cheers from the audience as the live demo ends.

11.50 – Ted is taking on a 300 foot leviathan (you may have read about this in GamePro) with a rocket launcher. On paper it’s one thing – in full motion, it’s something else entirely…

11.48 – Here’s a look at Resistance 2, Ted Price from Insomniac Games takes the stage.

11.46 – Jack Tretton: “If PlayStation in 2007 was all about hardware, PlayStation in 2008 is all about software.”

11.45 – Jack Tretton: “The PLAYSTATION 3 is the most complete and future-proof Blu-ray player available.”

PlayStation Press Conference

11.41 – OK back in my seat, as CEO Jack Tretton reacquaints us with the history of PlayStation and Sony Computer Entertainment. “We take a longer look ahead.”

The press conference is just about to get started and I’m up on stage playing Metal Gear Solid 4. You might be able to see me as soon as G4 starts their live video stream (look to the left side of the stage).

I’ll keep updating this post with news from the event, so check back often or keep your eyes on our twitter feed for the latest.

I dont think Sony has lost this round, but it will be a hard fight … (in the worst case it’s going to be a draw)

the consumer will be the winner … with all that nice stuff comming our way (remember the browser-fight)

  • @290….I actually bought my PS3 for an Entertainment system.

Gaming just is an added feature to me.

  • This is nice Sony blind-sided me with the Playstation Movie store it was better than expected and with the news of a new 80GB model.

    Sucks that Microsoft got FFXIII.

MAG was looking preety sweet 256 players at once awsome! but i beet there will be massive lag problems when its released

Great PS3 to PSP news movies can be swaped over to the PSP

and much more this really turned out great and great GOWIII Trailer

the demo for R2 was chalky and graphic wise unimpresive but its still in devolpment so i hope they can fix that problem im still a fan

    INFAMOUS was looking IMPRESSIVE

08 IS THE YEAR OF THE PS3 GO B3YOND!

  • I’m really disappointed. The 80 GB isn’t backwards compatible (meaning no unit is BC now). Only one unannounced exclusive was shown for the ps3 (MAG) and it’s just another shooter. No info on White Knight Chronicles, and no info on Team ICO projects. No new RPG’s announced. So that’s my honest feedback–disappointment. Sorry I couldn’t get excited.

  • Aside from using a custom LBP level as an awesome power point, R2, and MAG…

…Sony’s E3 presentation seemed pretty weak.

As a die hard PS fanboy and a day one 60GB owner, I can’t even believe that I’m saying this, but I actually want to buy a Xbox 360 as I feel like I’m going to miss out on some fun games if I only have a PS3.

Kick ass games huh? Where were the JRPGS? Where was your commitment to securing kick ass third party exclusives like FF13?

For the most part, all I noticed was more of the same old “PS Identity Crisis 3.”

You guys had better hope to hell that the new 60GB 360s are not reliable.

  • @Europeans

Stop worrying…Sony will never bother giving you anything good. Either accept the fact that Sony treats Europeans like sh1t and use your PS3 as a Bluray player. You pay more, you get everything after us, your Store is updated so infrequently, and on top of that SCEE won’t even bother telling you why. SCEA says talk to SCEE, and SCEE doesn’t bother responding.

    SCEJ>SCEA>Everyother SCE>SCEE

  • @288

I disagree, if you compare the PS3 from launch to now and the 360 in that same time frame the PS3 has sold several millions more then the 360. If anything the gap has closed in leaps and bounds in 2008. It will take a few years but it will happen.

I don’t get why 360 owners have to be so annoying. You have a 360 fine!!! Go and play with it..(if you can)

  • sony is working on a ten year plan so in 8 years time everyone will be happy or playing on the x box 490 i was really looking forward to some firmware news u fail us sony

  • @ 304

oh really? year of the ps3? after losing FFXIII and GTAIV? i don’t think so.

  • Not bad E3 i guess… Loved Resistance 2, Infamos and Mirror’s Edge look interesting and GoWIII teaser (finally) but no RPGs… :(

    WHERE IS White Knight Chronicles!

  • MICROSOFT NEVER GOT FF13 WE STILL GET IT STOP SAYING THEY GOT IT WE NEVER LOST IT WE JUST LOST THE EXCLUSIVITY OF IT AND WE STILL GET VERSUS EXCLUSIVE.

I’m not surprised we didn’t see anything from SquareEnix. It’s not like they aren’t developing games for the PS3, because we know that they are. I think Sony decided that they didn’t want to reward SquareEnix by giving them a bunch of press coverage after they embarassed Sony by taking away exclusivity of FF13.

I went back and saw this too, I say this person has a bright future in philosophy

  • IMO it was pretty good overall, but I was really hoping for a HUGE announcement at end. GoW 3 was cool but I would’ve love to see Sora for KH3 or to see Cloud waking up in Aerith’s garden. That would’ve been awesome!!! Well now we have to wait next month for Square party thing or wait for TGS. :(

  • i’ll say is for MAG 256 players is massive
    here something though
do not let us host games. idk much about this game but if its a FPS then dont let us host. Well even if its not. have allot of servers so it does not lag on us like hell. also if there is an option to host then have it so the system checks your bandwidth to see how many players can be in your room. like they have on warhawk

  • man, was i disappointed! still no wipeout hd? LBP not out in sept? LBP released at the same time as socom, fallout, motorstrom, and a bunch of other great titles in ocotber – that’s not a bright idea

  • Christ, it’s like you guys don’t even care anymore. :(

  • 2008 is gonna be the year of the PS3… ok that was it… 2k9 isnt it?

the most part of it was about games by insomniac… if Insomniac wouldnt be there your PC would be really shameful…

There was any word of FFXIII Versus, or what we can expect of 2009(the year of the Wii)

I know, the E3 is just for American owners, but a small word about the european and japanese consumers could be made. What about this movie store? Does the European and Japanese have it too?

Im looking for you in Leipzig!

  • Sony doesn’t care about it’s hardcore huge JRPG following anymore. They’re going to lose a lot of loyal fans by trying to appeal to the shooter and casual crowd. They’re neglecting the “orginal” Sony crowd that got them where they are today.

  • oh, yeah, i forgot about the MIA for white knight cronicles.. where’s the love, sony?

  • Hmmm, I’m now thinking on how to spend my spare time between DCU Online & MAG.

Playing an MMO as an superhero is finally a dream come true & 256 players? MEGATON!! :D

  • @Deathsnight001

It means a whole lot if we loose the exclusivity. Look at GTA IV, ever since it was released on the 360, it’s been getting more sales than the PS3 version and that would mean a whole lot when viewed in the developer’s eyes.

  • @314 Yea I was really hoping to see KH3 too.

  • @every one

    Deathsknight001 | July 15th, 2008 at 1:55 pm

MICROSOFT NEVER GOT FF13 WE STILL GET IT STOP SAYING THEY GOT IT WE NEVER LOST IT WE JUST LOST THE EXCLUSIVITY OF IT AND WE STILL GET VERSUS EXCLUSIVE

he is right we didnt loose it. i dont understand why people are complaining ‘ we lost FF13, no we did not its jsut not exclusive anymore

  • I’d also just like to ask Jack Tretton what the hell he thought he was playing at mentioning Ico/SotC early on if there was no intention of revealing the follow up. To take the p**s?

  • I thought it was great!

But then I learned a terrible truth from one of your customer service representatives:
When I turn 18 (in a little over half a year) I will not be able to upgrade my PSN account from a sub-account under my mother to a master account. I have spent well over $100 on the PlayStation Store, and this is how SECA repays me?
You people need to work fast on updating the PSN Account Management. It is your weakest PSN point! Not only is is all over crappy, in look AND function, but it is also denying your under-18 (and soon to be 18) users to continue to use the PSN ID that all their PS3 gaming is tied to. If I were to make another account once I turn 18 I will, for one, loose my great ID (FirePhantom), plus loose the ablility to play the games I BOUGHT (paid my good money for) from the PS Store, and for a second I will loose all the game saves, trophies, etcetera that I have painstakingly built up with my wonderful PlayStation 3.

This is madness! it almost makes me sick to my stomach…
I have long been a PlayStation ‘fanboy’, but that just may change when I turn 18 if you don’t change the damn Account Management before then.

    Sickens me to my stomach.

(No wonder Square Enix went with Microsoft – if this is how you treat your loyal customers, only the almighty Game-god knows how you treat your loyal developers.)

  • Goodluck at the Taco meetup…

  • Oh and did we forget SE was smart enough by keeping FF13 EXCLUSIVE TO JAPAN. That were the game will sells the most and we know it

  • Oh yeah PSP line up I was impressed about. Patapon 2, Valkyria Chronicles (PS3 version still coming I assume???), Loco Roco 2, Stardust Portable sure are games I’m looking forward to.

  • @322

yes but we have the advantage with this the box only gets ff13 for north america sony gets it world wide.

  • By the way…
This very Blog’s ‘Account Management’ is nonexistent. I still have to use the crazy number-letter password you emailed me – there being NO PLACE TO MAKE MY OWN on this crappy excuse for a website.

  • My o My o My

What a dissapointment, i mean after 2 years this is all we have???

Its starting to be that all major gaming events show off HOME and LBP, its getting to be a tad tedious. There is no new impulse, no new idea’s. Pls don’t bring out another shooter, try to be origional for once.

    And what happened to

    HEAVY RAIN
GOW 3 – ( not jsut CGI rubbish like 3 years ago with killzone)
Eightdays and Getaway- oh wait, they were cancelled.
Rockstar Games planned exclusive for PS3

Oh wait, we have video downloads…..wow.

Na PS Life, isn’t this the same as the weather channel..????

I’m afraid Microsoft stole the show when they stole your exclusive rights to FF, and you say that you didn’t see it coming……too busy fixing broken firmwares?

  • @324 I agree with you.

However, a lot of PS3 posters seem to want to be one up on the other consoles. (it doesn’t matter to me)

I’m just glad we have 3 consoles out there, as that gives everyone competition.

If there were only 1 console, they would do things when they wanted to; this way, I’m sure we’ll be seeing things coming up in the near future.

    SCEJ>SCEA>Everyother SCE>SCEE

    +++++++++++++++++++++++

Sorry bro but you’re wrong. SCEE isn’t the lowest in the SCE chain…That dubious honor belongs to SCEA (A as in Asia, not America).

Have you seen the lame ass offerings in the Singapore/Hong Kong/whatever Asian region I’m missing.

For some reason, they think Asian players LOVE Japanese PSN titles. Nevermind that the majority of us can’t even read the language, that’s nothing to Sony as without fail on Thursday (or any day they feel like it to be honest), they’ll update the store with ONE or TWO (I’m being deadly serious here) videos, maybe a wallpaper or something and FOUR or FIVE PSN titles. Not good PSN titles mind you (No Einhander or anything like that) but crap like Mahjong and other board games. In fact, Mahjong alone probably has more versions on the Asian PSN store than ANYTHING

There’s not even an E3 section and only ONE spillover from the E3 US section…the RE5 trailer.

So Europeans don’t think you have it bad…think about how we Asians are being screwed too

  • Sorry that should have been @325

  • Nitrowolf2….it was meant for you…these numbers are driving me !

  • @313 Thetruefiziks
Thanks for the kudos, alas I am not a philosopher, just a lowly patent attorney. I had a second thought on my 40GB prediction. Since the hardware for the new 80GB will be the same as the 40GB, retailers could just return their 40GB stock to Sony to be repackaged with a larger HD and a dualshock 3. That would mean that a fire sale price cut might not be coming.

  • I can’t wait for Video store! And all the new games coming out this year.

  • when will the video store be released for europe

  • Dropped the ball spectacularly again Sony…

I just sold my 360, but you can damn sure I’m buying another one!!

and for you morons going about the red ring of death…thats been fixed now…

at least msoft give a [DELETED] about the gamers!

  • Crazy good showing. I can’t really relate to anyone complaining.

  • The only thing that made MS presentation was the FFXIII announcement and the already announced for November 08 “Gears of war 2”
The netflix plan is the same as sony’s with the new video store. Sony needed to unveil a few RPG. Im still thinking about getting a 360, not for ffxiii but for overall online gaming i guess. Funny how all those who react and say ps3 doesn’t have anything good.

  • I do think it’s gonna be an exciting year with Sony and the PS3 :) Lots of fun games :) I’m not a “gamer”… I just use it for fun :) And from what I can tell… There’s gonna be alot of fun this year, and the years to come :)

I have to say that I’m very happy with my PS3 and how it has developet :) That the FF-games isn’t exclusive anymore? Well, doesn’t really matter to me as long as I’m having fun now and the future looks bright :)

  • you know i kind of saw psp resistance version coming. It a def buy for me i just hope it ties in with the actual storyline of one or 2 or inbetween

  • Post 331
    @PhantomPheonix

I agree with you! Ever since I first joined; I have already forgotten two passwords as it is.

  • i also dont undertsnad how MS stole the show with FF13. the game comes out for both system. MS didnt have much to show at E3. i dont even think they annoused any 1st part games or anything.

  • OH SONY, You had the chance to win this E3 and you blew it, not because FFXIII is coming to 360, after all is not your fault that Microsoft has deep pockets to buy and bribe anyone they want, you blew E3 because you could not get SONY of JAPAN o cooperate with the show, no White Knight Story, No TriCO next project, NO RPGS!!!! and yes all of the Japanese stuff will be showed eventually at TGS later this year but is shame that SONY JAPAN NEVER COOPERATE with SONY America, it is like those two were 2 different companies altogether, once again the Japanese content lacked really bad at E3, COOPERATION SONY!! that’s what you need between SONY Japan and SONY AMERICA, better luck next time, and once again looking forward to TGS where the REAL Games are showed and is not just a FPS’s Fest…

  • PSN Store software really had a nice highlight though today.
Now get those PSN cards out so people can buy.

  • Wipe Out HD anyone?

  • I have been wanting a PSN Card for awhile but where is it!?

  • Its sad that there are so many whiners here, you guys are crying on something we still have.
