Life with PlayStation update

343 0

We’d like to provide a quick update on Life with PlayStation for PLAYSTATION 3. We know many of you are eager to try out the new service for yourself, but you’ll have to hold tight. Due to a few procedural matters, the new service will make its way to PlayStation fans in August.

Rest assured, Life with PlayStation will be a service that introduces a new way to interact with your PS3. By bringing information from around the world into your living room, Life with PlayStation will offer a variety of interactive content and channels on a visually stunning worldwide map interface.

We’re focused on continuously expanding the world of PS3 through new services and hope to do just that with the upcoming launch of Life with PlayStation.

Oh come on. Your giving me third party titles? I’m asking what SONY has delayed, not what other companies that aren’t in control of Sony has delayed. I mean, I know a few of those are Sony owned.

But games like GTA or MGS, or Orange Box make little sense since Sony couldn’t control whether or not those got delayed or not.

US & UK are potential HUGE markets though. Its good to see Sony catching up, but on the other hand I would like to see better public relations, and understand that this could take time… Bottom line is, you cant go on national TV and tell a bunch of harcore fans and owners, stuff that simply is not true. Every software/hardware company has to work out bugs and glitches, thats why the leaders in software development simply do not pull stunts at conferences simply to impress. When the product is done, the consumers will get it. I cant stress it enough that they need to stop revealing and setting time frames so much and just let it come when when its good and ready. Let it be a suprise. These current tactics do nothing but flame fanboy rage.

  • the update was nice…

should be like this for everything else

  • As a big Sony fan, this is just unacceptable. First Home then this? I was waiting for the end of this month for no reason at all. You guys shouldn’t have announced a release date so people won’t get pissed. So when can we expect Life With Playstation to come, end of August?!! :(

  • While were talking updates, can you guys possibly do a pre-order queue for PSN purchases so I can buy stuff early and leave my PS3 on Thursday’s so the downloads can be done by the time II get home?

    :)

  • i feel like im playing duck duck goose all over again =(

  • @23

I believe that sony thought they would fix the problem before the end of the day, I think that they discovered the problem when uploading it to the store or the update, whichever it may be.

but, alas, they didn’t fix it. i’m expecting it in the first 2 weeks of august.

  • Well atleast thanks for an update.

  • @99

2.4 worked fine for me and countless others. The level of ‘brick’d’ console complaints were about the same number as with any firmware update happens.

ANd the Blu-Ray thing. I know they announced it. But it never had a release date, hard to delay something with no release date <_< Probably having a hard time to get movie studios to agree with it. :/

  • It’s not just about what they delay “officially”, libregkd_117. For me, it’s about services they announce and either

    a) delay
    b) never or rarely talk about again
    c) release but *HARDLY EVER SUPPORT* or
    d) outright cancel.

And in this regard, Sony repeats this offense over and over again.

Home (a), Life with Playstation (a), In-Game XMB (which was originally going to be included in launch, but taken out because it was buggy) (a), PSP Camera for US (a or maybe even d now), PSP GPS (b), PSP PS Store (b), Trophies (a and c), Remote Play (c – it’s like they gave up on this completely for ps3 games?), and the list can go on and on.

It seems like what isnt delayed is severely under-utilized. It is a terrible tragedy for the PS3 and i’m pretty sure it will ultimately cost them the next gen war.

  • What’s with all the complaining? I’d rather get a release that’s a few days late as opposed to a buggy release on time.

I mean, come on. What’s the known facts about LWP? Checking local weather and news? What’s next? Checking your stock portfolio from your PS3? Reading the Wall Street Journal? Booooooooring.

  • cool is there will be world map like google earth?

  • Another!

  • I’m excited 4 Life with Playstation, but i’m still waiting for the Movie store on my PS3 what;s the delay with Canada can I expect the same for Life? please allow your follow North American’s the same pleasure where not very far away and where most of all loyal to you SONY please I want movies on my PS3 & Life

  • lol – i would actually prefer a release that is on time and works great. I would be a little more understanding if this wasnt Sony’s song and dance everytime an announced service or feature was supposed to be released.

  • Mr. Rimon & Co.,

Thanks for the update. We appreciate you being up front with us even though it comes last minute and is not what we want to hear. It’s far better than simply ignoring the missed deadline.

I am not a “Fan” of any company, but I do own many Sony products both in and out of the Playstation lines. As a consumer, this practice of missing deadlines is irritating.

What are your customers left to think when you repeatedly misinform them? Unintentional as it may be, it is a poor business practice. Comment #64 was 100% right. One’s word ought to be their bond.

I’m not gonna sit here and make outlandish comments like “I’m getting rid of my PS’s” or the like as that’s ridiculous. However, please find it in your wallet to be realistic and up front with your customer’s from now on. It will help you in the long run.

Thanks for your time, your welcome for mine.

Maybe boring to you and alot of other kids. But for some grown people, this could be a great thing,(Not saying your a kid, but i mean, mostly adults are interested in news/weather). I know I atleast catch CNN for a good 2 hours a day. And weather is always a good thing to know whats coming. I would really like this feature and would use it quite often, hopefully it is a good qaulity app, which im pretty sure it will be.

  • Wait, trophies were just put in, how can is hardly supported? Yes, I believe it was launch prematurely, but games are supporting it Eden, SSDHD support it now with Uncharted, Resistance 2, Bioshock, RB2, LBP, SOCOM, Warhawk and others having it eventually. The others you have a point though I could of sworn that the PSP camera was already released.

And please don’t say “It’ll cost them the next-gen war’ the ‘war’ is already over. Nintendo is going to be on top and everyone knows that. But no one is coming out this generation being completely left behind. Its not going to be like last generation where the PS2 just completely wiped the floor with its competitors. I doubt we’ll see a console like that in a long while.

  • People people, the word “delay” is synonymous with this entire industry! And it’s totally fine, I mean this is still one of the fastest-paced industries out there, right up there with IT! “Procedural” sounds like an issue with just rolling it out, so hopefully the software itself is good to go.

  • Sony has seriously stretched their resources out Home, PS Life, KZ2, among other games, FW updates, etc., etc.,

I am looking forward to Google integration with the PS3 MS fears Google so Sony and Goolge should make a nice one two punch!

  • Awesome! Can’t wait to see this. For get people who complain about delays. They obviously live in the “Perfect World” where everything goes according to plan. I’m with you in the real world an can wait a little longer without any harm.

  • I already knew it was going to be delayed.

  • Thank you so much for the info!

  • How do you announce something to be released in a couple of weeks and miss the deadline? I would have thought if Sony announced something coming so soon that it was basically in the bag. At least you jumped on here and reported the bad news. All I ask for is transparency and this blog does a pretty damn good job at working towards that.

    Now: PJM Trophies!!!

  • it’s not about living in a “perfect world”, it’s about sony keeping their promises – just because i dont want to degrade myself by accepting all these delays doesnt make me any less of a loyal sony customer, i just want what they promise – is that such a problem?

They wait until almost midnight on the last day of the window they were to release it in to let us know it’s delayed. It’s not like the code all-of-a-sudden started setting people on fire or anything; they just dont seem to care enough to follow through with *anything* (besides promptly letting us know things are delayed or ignored, then supplying a vague explanation of why.

    I’ve had enough.

  • thanks for the update, what’s up with you guys? at least its not a year delayed its just a few weeks and we have Eden to play around with

  • well, we’ll se in the future.

  • Great job Sony!

I think this is what Sony should always do, update the PS3 users on what is going on.

After an announcement on E3, at some point you guys knew that you were not going to release on the 31st, and now told us what was going on.

A step in the right direction.

    Thank you

  • Nice, I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

  • am i taking crazy pills again?

  • That’s August 2008, right?

  • Wow! more crap from Sony. U know, when u give “release dates,” typically u r supposed 2 deliver. For 2 years we PS3 owners have found delays like this 2 b very typical from u Sony. I guess that’s (LIFE WITH PLAYSTATION).
Give us (Multiple Sign-ins) & (In-game Voice chat/messages) this August n all might b forgotten.

  • Oh no the world is ending!!!

Pfft, Eden is more than keeping me occupied! I downloaded 2 or 3 additional demo’s from PSN, yet for the past 3 hours I’ve been hooked on Eden.

Trophies are freaking awesome, anyone compete with their buddies also?

Oh, LwP? Take your time, many of us will be occupied with other stuff. :D

  • great things come to those who wait. i rather have something that works well late then something that doesn’t works well on time. I am glad you take the time to make it right. :-)

  • sweet another delay. awesome job.

  • This is so typical of u guys Sony. I think most will agree that u guys have used up enough delays to last throughout the life-cycle of PS4 & PS5. Delay after Delay after Delay. I guess that’s just (LIFE WITH PLAYSTATION). Give us (Multiple Sign-ins) & (In-game Voice Chat/Voice Msg’s) in August, n all might b forgotten.

  • Is *The Last Guy game integrated into this new service? that be kool! :)

  • Thanks Noam Rimon, I say take your time and do it right. In the end people will forget the delays because when it’s out and perfect that’s what counts. Take Care and be safe all.

  • Thanks Noam Rimon, I say take your time. In the end people will forget any delays. Because when it’s out and perfect that’s what counts. Take Care all and be safe.

  • Will it be a worldwide release or YET ANOTHER America only?

  • I personally am tired of the Delays as well but also understand the need to Delay things sometimes and would rather have something Delayed rather then it bricking my PS3.

In the end though perhaps like many have said above just don’t announce release dates until it’s completely done. For whatever region it is going to come out to 1st announce it when it is done but sit on it for a good month and work on localization on the other regions then once a month is up release it in the 1st region. You can even start to hype it 1 week before release and since it is done already you know there won’t be any delays. Then let the public Hype Machine and Internet do the work spreading to the other regions.

Ya it would suck having to wait an extra uneeded month but you definintly won’t get any complaints from your customers since they wouldn’t really know. I mean you could take my advice right now and no one would know weather it would take effect or not, your customers and fanbase would just think your doing a whole lot better when all the software & updates are released on time and bug free.

This is just my train of thought and I know a lot would be pissed if they ever found out you were doing this but most would probably never know.

P.S. Feel free to change that extra month to 2 or 3 weeks whatever you think would be a good standard for all your releases.

  • I hereby withdraw my previous statements of discontent.

Thank you, very much, for the update.

  • Ok, August…. but the thing is… even 30th August falls in that time frame and thats far far away! Regardless, take ur time, just get us a good firmware.

  • I’d rather wait and get a solid product. :P

That said, I hope this thing has an RSS reader. I could stop using my PC for web browsing then. ;)

  • Big surprise.

  • thanks for the update at least.
to people who complain: at least you are going to get it,instead of not getting it at all. Delays can happen anytime.

  • well, kinda pointless me staying up (im in europe, the UK to be precise) and checking it at midnight to see if it was being released on ‘america time’, then checking at 8am this morning (so around midnight ‘america time’) and still no release………….

    sounds a bit like home……

(and before people start moaning, i have been a HUGE sony fanboy since day one, just like most of europe, but the recent delays on things are starting to annoy me…)

  • Serious question on features:
I live in Japan and am currently forced to only receive JP news in the info-bar even though I have both US and JP accounts. Will LWP also use IP detection (or whatever) and force all my news to be displayed solely in Japanese with no option for receiving them in English? I want to be excited about this, but if it ends up being the same as the info-bar, then my potential excitement level will drop to zero.

    Also…

Would have been better to tell us before the end of the month, as was promised. I am sure whatever the “procedural issues” that got in the way were known well enough before the end of the month that an announcement could have been made. It would have saved you a lot of the bad comments you are receiving.

  • As others have said, ‘Thanks for the update’ on the matter. Atleast we know what’s going on and that you’re working on getting it out to us with no problems :)

  • its ok, just give us more jrpg
