We’d like to provide a quick update on Life with PlayStation for PLAYSTATION 3. We know many of you are eager to try out the new service for yourself, but you’ll have to hold tight. Due to a few procedural matters, the new service will make its way to PlayStation fans in August.
Rest assured, Life with PlayStation will be a service that introduces a new way to interact with your PS3. By bringing information from around the world into your living room, Life with PlayStation will offer a variety of interactive content and channels on a visually stunning worldwide map interface.
We’re focused on continuously expanding the world of PS3 through new services and hope to do just that with the upcoming launch of Life with PlayStation.

Seriously totally agree with you. I’m pissed off at the delays because they are a constant, but to talk about 360 and Wii as if they are gamers’ heaven is just…. silly.
I just don’t understand how these companies can tolerate so many delays :/ I don’t see this anywhere aside from the gaming industry

Although I was disappointed to hear that we won’t get Life with Playstation at the end of July. I’m hoping the delay was to ensure the quality of the feature.
The fact that many of you on here are whining and complaining posting up stuff like “Sony, get your act together.” about delays sickens me. You are just as annoying as the degenerate teenagers I used to hear while playing on XBOX Live.
I’m hoping David Hayter creates an account on the blog so he can post “Get a grip.” to calm your whining asses down.

Based on prior Sony timeframes, we can all expect it in August of 2009 (notice no year was given so it could be released with Home in August 2010).
um, if someone just says “august” without a year included, it probably does mean this coming month – otherwise, this post probably wouldnt have been made, thus making the entire conversation pointless at this time.
Hey Noam, is there any chance that the news globe in LwP lets you use your own RSS feeds? A big visual RSS reader for the PS3 would be fantastic, especially mixing it in with regional and international news/weather.

Lol you guys act like it’s the biggest thing in the world. They probably just ran into a little bug right at the end and couldn’t release it because of this. Kinda like the wipeout HD being delayed because it failed siezure tests or something like that.

It’s a shame that you had to delay this release, but these things happen right?
What we all apreicate is that you let us know. There’s nothing worse than deafening silence from a big corporation on these matters.
In this case, so often nobody knows who is responsible for communicating delays to the consumer, so I salute you for taking the time, and responsibility to do this.
I’m sure that it will be worth the wait when it does release, and will be a useful addition to the PS3’s overall experience.

I have a small suggestion that may help not only to benefit the PS3 gaming community but also the developers of the great games that are currently available and in development. I see no better place for this currently than in a post from INSOMNIA who time and time again have shown their drive and company wide standard to create games that constantly push the edge of everything out there and usually jump right off of it!
OK so here goes…
I am suggesting that SONY create a Standards based system similar to that used on the internet and in digital technology. However, this standards system would detail the format and features expected in a PS3 game in order for it to bare PS3 logo on its packaging.
Example: XML, HTTP, RSS, HDMI, WiFi 802.11 b,g,n(“n” being a draft and not finalized)
Using this example you can compare it to the Home beta. Another example, say that the Home beta is a standard that will be on PS3’s(at some point) right now since it’s not finished it would be labeled to customers/consumers, and the community as a DRAFT. I know that it is already a beta, but i am only using home as an example what I am suggesting is that when features and services that SONY or other developers release on PS3 are not finished yet but still released we are told this with a simple standard approach that we can all recognize. I am sure that I don’t have to remind you that only a very small % of the customer base will ever read a blog post in this blog or even an RSS feed of a post regarding system and software features.
The best way that this could be implemented is in the use of in-game XMB and FW 2.42+ features in any new titles that are released on the platform.
Create a standard system that will require software titles and devs in general to better inform the user. Example in-Game Soundtrack Support.(iGSS)
Another feature is MUTE in Multiplayer Games through in-game GUI (MiMMG) games or Trophy Supported Rewards (TSR)
or
Importing and Exporting of photos and other elements using the PS3 EYE camera
(I/O-EYE)
I am just writing this off of the top of my head so if the acronyms don’t look great then think of better ones but a standard based system eg: the ESRB rating system that is more widely used for PS3 and Blu-Ray format titles would be enormously beneficial to the end user, and would help SONY express to other game devs what would be expected from a PS3 consumer when they are purchasing their game and also what’s expected as a PS3 1st or 3rd party dev. This way when they are in development they can include it without a problem whether it’s in a ‘Draft’ format or not.
At least they would be able to implement it completely at some point and allow for the gamer to know that it’s being worked on simply by reading about the game from it very own packaging.
This would be groundbreaking achievement for this company(Sony) and I feel that if any 1st party dev can give this idea legs it’s INSOMNIAC Games.

Sony probably has to get a new browser for this to work and they found out at the last minute that Sony-Ericsson was not going to work with them again for a new one. So now they have to find one that will work and get it integrated into a new update to get this browser app working since the current flash version won’t work with the rotating earth thing they want to get going…
Maybe we get a new browser like we been asking for…now watch someone will start a new rumor on the forum that Sony getting a new browser…

honestly I think you should have just kept with the summer release date, though I guess you really did expect it to be here by now, if it wasn’t for the bugs.
And for all you people whining about the delay AND begging for a more accurate release date. WTF?!?! Sony originally said this summer, and then later when they more specifically said July, they had to announce a delay, because of some problems that have pushed it to a slightly later time in the summer. So, if they give us a more accurate date in August they might fall prey to this same mistake, if they encounter more problems, and instead have to delay it say to the 28th instead of the 14th, the same thing will happen all over again with people jumping on them for missing a release date that everyone had just been pressing them for.
Aw man, and I was looking forward to it. It’s too bad it will never see the light of day. As Sony has taught me from the disaster known as “Home,” if people talk too much about how they’re “not ready, because we want it to be perfect when it finally comes out,” it’s as good as canceled. Thank God LittleBigPlanet isn’t being developed by SCE, because there’s actually a chance we may be able to play LBP someday.
plus at least they gave us some info, honestly, you guys complain at just about anything possible, and for those of you threatening to trade in or sell your PS3’s. GO AHEAD. If you think that the other consoles are so perfect that they don’t encounter any problems, why the hell did you get a ps3 in the first place?

basically, guys, you need to get lives, and stop harping on about a news/weather service, albeit one that looks interesting and is likely to expand in the future, that hit a small delay. And even though these services are encountering delays (who can forget Home), we are the ones pressing for release dates (see Real Gambler @220 for an excellent iteration), AND these services are FREE.
