Bionic Commando: Rearmed

Hey my friends, this is John D from Capcom. I’m pleased and honored to announce that Bionic Commando: Rearmed will become available on the PlayStation Store today for only $9.99! Ben Judd, producer extraordinaire, is so excited for this release that his head’s going to explode. And speaking of exploding heads (if you don’t get this reference, buy the game), here’s his very informative blog he prepared for all you PS fans:

Hello again fine folks of the PlayStation Blog. All good things must come to an end and with Rearmed arriving on the scene we need to finish out our all-too-short time here.

So by now you’ve seen the reviews and know EXACTLY what you are getting into. I would say that Bionic Commando Rearmed isn’t just an homage to a classic 2D game with a very innovative swing mechanic, but it’s a piece of where games started. For those who have never played a 2D game, for those who miss the classic “gamey” type games of old, for those just looking for an experience that is certainly worth your 10 dollars – Bionic Commando is it.

Even if you don’t have much interest in these types of games, I would ask you to try out the demo and decide for yourself. However, even if it’s a day one purchase for you, I would ask you to spend a little time to visit the Bionic Commando Community Site and introduce yourself. There are lots of fans of the game to share your grueling challenge room stories with, people in your area that you may be able to hook up with for a night of wild multiplayer action, and just an all around great community.

Bionic Commando is a game that I want as many people to play as possible, so it was very important to get a PSN version out the door for all of the Sony fans out there. And although I think it’s important to deliver the same experience to everyone, that doesn’t mean you can’t add in a few little things here and there to keep it interesting. So, one of the surprises is that the PSN version of Bionic Commando has an exclusive challenge room that you can only play on the PSN version of the game. It may not be the biggest of surprises, but we have tried to give a little something to the PSN users that they can keep to themselves. And with how hard this challenge stage is, it will certainly make for bragging rights!

PS Update #1: Generalissimo Killt
The charismatic leader of the Imperials, the self-styled “Generalissimo” Killt, is a former member of the FSA armed forces who became corrupted by the teachings of the long-dead dictator known as The Leader. Seeking to spread fascism across first the FSA, and then the world, Killt stumbled upon the blueprints for the ultimate doomsday weapon, known as Project Albatross, which had been created by a 20th century superpower that never survived to see it realized.

With the Albatross plans in his grasp, Killt sprung a surprise attack on the FSA, but the size of his forces compared to the might of the FSA means the conflict will be short-lived – unless the Imperials can activate the Albatross in time…

Bionic Commando

Medals
The FSA awards Medals to only the bravest soldiers for outstanding service above and beyond the call of duty. There are 12 medals to collect in total, with something to suit every type of soldier, from brawlers to thinkers.

Medal #4: Faster Than a Speeding Bullet
The Bionic Arm is a true utility device – not only does it provide many forms of attack and a nifty method of transportation, but thanks to the wonders of 2 dimensions it can also be used to defend yourself. Time your firing of the Bionic Arm’s grappling hook just right and you can stop the Imperials’ mysteriously slow-traveling bullets in mid-air! All you have to do get this Medal is to repeat that not once, not twice, but 100 times.

Bionic Commando: Rearmed

Super Joe’s Machine Gun
This legendary firearm is a prototype weapon developed by Super Joe himself. With all-round damage capability, a tremendous fire rate and seemingly unlimited ammo, this gun is perfect for clearing your way through the Imperial hordes. Only two things prevent Super Joe’s Machine Gun from being the perfect weapon – it requires a short reload period after each intense burst of fire, and nobody knows where Joe placed the prototype before he was captured by the Imperials. If you want to get your hands on this weaponry, your only option is to locate Joe.

John D again. I usually play and finish the games I work on. Not this one. I want to wait until the game launches, so I can enjoy every minute. I’ve played parts of this game and it really is that good.

So I’ve been hinting for quite some time that we have something in store for you PS Street Fighter fans. Well, I’m happy to announce that Street Fighter Alpha is available today in the PSone Classics section of the store for $5.99! Some of you may be asking, “Come on John D, was that’s it?” Um, if I say more, the PR team will kick my a$$, so I’ll leave it as a definitely, maybe. (Eh, my girlfriend made me watch that. It wasn’t that bad, shhh!)

As always, I’ll try my best to answer your questions and comments. I’ll be back to give you updates on Age of Booty, our strategic pirate party game, and Mega Man 9, the next installation of the classic series in 8-bit glory!

Till next time! Go-GO-Go-Bionic!

  • Any update on when we can expect SSFIIT:HDR? Is it still slated for this Fall?

  • will the XBL version have custom soundtracks? just trying to decide either to get the PSN or xbox version thanks

  • Well I guess I got the wrong version. I bought the 360 one so I could buy the next Bionic Commando game. So I could use the guy from BC:Rearmed. The only thing I don’t like about BC:Rearmed is some times the arm does not work like it should. Like when I am pointing in the upper left or right and it only goes strait up. Plus I would have loved to have been able to jump but I guess that is what the arm is for. Over all the game is great fun. John D tell every one over at Capcom they made a great game. Now I just have to wonder what game Capcom will revive next.

  • My opinion of Capcom is getting better and better. I will admit a bit of bad blood at the engine Capcom used for a few games that required large installs. Lately though super impressed with them and of course the devs they work with. I’ll be picking this up as I miss the old ‘gamey’ games. :)

While I look forward to the trophy implmentation I play games for fun not trophies.

  • I really like Capcom for treating us right again(for awhile i thought Capcom gave the big .l.. finger to us PS3 owners). Keep it up guys!

  • Couple of new games on PSN? Don’t see how I can complain. Thanks. :D

  • This is the only problem with allowing feedback from the general public. A lot of people don’t know to keep their mouths shut when they have no idea what they are talking about.
@DryvBy. SF Alpha/Zero getting released today is a PSOne game.. as such no trophies.

@MSplatter. Blame Sony for the late release not CAPCOM. Sony has this silly Thursday schedule thing that continually puts them behind Xbox Live releases. Perpetuating the idea that they are always playing catchup with Microsoft.

    @DryvBy again…
Cool that you are just requesting your favorite game and all but you make it sound so easy to just whip out another Marvel Vs Capcom game using the new engine. Not only would it be a ton of work off the heels of SFIV but they have to reach a new licensing agreement with Marvel too.

They can’t just remake Duck Tales.. it belongs to Disney and is totally outdated.

They DID redo Final Fight and it was absolutely terrible.

    @Rendermonk
From what I hear there is plenty of reason trophy support could not have made it at launch. They would have to postpone launch.. I’m much happier to wait for a patch than the whole game. Keep in mind the game doesn’t just go up on the store a couple of days after they “finish making it.” this is a much longer process than you think.

    @Wip3ou7
Yeah that was NAMCO.. and yes they suckle MS teet.

    @Rendermonk again..
Um yeah.. you are such an ungrateful…
They are supporting trophies as fast as possible.. what more do you really expect of them? You want to wait one or two more weeks for the game?

Wow.. too many unintelligent posters to reply to them all. People, read. Pay attention.. and if you don’t have any idea what you are talking about.. do us all a favor and keep your mouth shut. If you don’t know game development.. don’t make assumptions regarding what game developers are doing. Sheesh.

  • So…. when does this pop up on the US PSN? Just checked right now and its still not up.

  • Oh and thank you John D and Ben Judd for keeping us posted and giving us such great news. Sorry your reception has been less positive than the news you are bringing.. just try to keep in mind that these people poo pooing everything you say are the lowest common denominator of society and most people are just so pleased as punch that they feel no need to express themselves on here.

    • Actually, on the most part, the reception has been positive. BCR is a really good game, probably one of the best games available right now for download.

But yeah, the internet is the new Wild West. We just want to be straight up up with you guys.

  • DigitalLogic many hours from now. Is this your first store update? They come later in the afternoon/evening depending on our luck.

  • When Trophy Support arrives, I’ll buy the game. Developers need to realize that trophies equal more sales, since it’s more compelling to buy and play games with ’em than those without.

    Trophies FTW!

  • yup. been waiting on Rearmed for a long time now & im at home “sick” from work. Plus, i finally got me my 1st new TV: a 32″ flatscreen.

  • I’m sorry but Street Fighter Alpha was the worst possible choice for PSN, why not a SF game that people would actually be excited over like SF3?

I don’t see why XBLA gets SF2 with online and PSN gets maybe the worst SF game with noting.

  • Definitely maybe was a good movie!

I already own Street Fighter Alpha on SF Alpha Anthology. I’m waiting for Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, but it’s nice they threw us a bone, you know.

  • Yeah well.. Sony certainly is never in much of a rush to deliver any online content. We get this pretty late in the afternoon early evening and that is west coast. I can only imagine how annoying it is for east costers.

Congrats on the new TV.. when I got mine I replayed everything I owned and it was a like a whole new experience. ;)

  • ahh… i see now that I got an email update last week @ approx. 6:30 PST. yup… gonna be a loooong day.

  • Been looking forward to this and Mega man 9, and already enjoying Commando 3. Showing some love for the old school. keep up the good work Capcom

  • I am so glad of this (although I would LOVE to be able to play the classic incarnation as well). I played Bionic Commando OVER and OVER and OVER back in the day! Definitely going to grab this tonight and looking forward to trophy support! (ya’ll quit your whining!) Thanks Capcom! Hope to see more of the PS1 RPG’s on the PSN!

  • I hope we can be forgiven for being greedy, but we demand more Capcom titles on PS3!!!
A new Marvel VS Capcom would be awesome.I definitely voted for the old one in the poll.

  • Is PSP Remote Play working with this? I remember at E3, it was still unclear whether it would happen due to lag…

  • I really can’t wait for SCEE to put it out, probably next week, so I’ll be getting it off the US Store, and hope the patch will work for it…

  • John, please tell them to hurry the crap up. I’ve been waiting to play both of these games all week.

  • I love you. Plain and simple, I love you.

  • I would also like to chime in on the great interaction and effort that Sony and Capcom has put into these blogs. It’s nice to be heard, and especially be responded to too.

Back then, the only info regarding new games were from magazines like GamePro or EGM. Now imagine, if it weren’t for the whole interwebz blogging phenomenon… The editors of these magazines would recieve, on a daily basis, letters from random ppl who claims to be “First”.

Seriously, you young’uns have it real easy nowadays.
Back in the days, I had to use pen and paper plus a stamp to demand for stuff like In-game Cassette playing. I am still waiting for my Sega CD to be able to play my disco mix tapes while solving cases with Sherlock Holmes. I also refuse to finish Sonic CD until I get the new patch so I can start earning Souvenirs.

    “Life’s a joke. Laugh at it.” :D

    • Sherlock Holmes, the start of the great FMV, interactive games. You know what, it actually wasn\’t that bad. Ok, yeah it was, but Jurrasic Park was cool.

  • shweet looking game! will try the demo and most def buy the full game. i hope my g/f enjoys the multiplayer of this more than she did eden (she doesn’t understand it). either way i want it.

    peace,
    Lh

  • im thinking ill buy it..
i miss the great 2d games.. wish we could have something like this done for Castlevania.. or the Gradius/Life Force games.. I know, those are Konami products… still.. would be nice..
    or an Actraiser-type game..

  • I strongly agree…. I may lose some friends for this comment but it needs to be said…. NEXT GENERATION IS NOT ALL SHOOTERS all companies are making now are shooters… and dont get me wrong I love shooters… but I miss my old school… bionic commando.. the old castlevania. kid icarus.. the games that made me love gaming… we need to do just like the clothing industry and styles are doing and go retro… we need some of the old games redone and back.. to help us rekindle the years ago… and capcom is doing an excellent job.. not everything has to be about shooters.

  • Nice, been waiting for Bionic Comando!! Quick question will the patch containing trophy support be free or will it be a bigger patch of some sorts that we would have to pay for?

  • Great, I’ll definitely be picking up BC. Any word on when Mega Man 9 is going to drop?

Any plans to remake any other Capcom classics like Gun.Smoke, Ghosts N Goblins, Mega Man, etc?

  • and this trophy thing is getting out of hand… sure the acheivements are cool.. but to base your decision on getting a game soley on trophy support .. well thats just dumb… mgs4 has no tropies yet but its a hella awesome game… dude thats your lost… but if your that stubborn then you dont deserve to play bionic commando.. hell.. you were probably an infant when i was beating bionic commando on the nes… so you have no idea what your missing

  • looking forward john d can you reveal what the next psn game capcom is releasing?

  • @lyfestory:126

Capcom + Konami = NES Contra with BC:R Engine.

    nuff said…

    Someone start a petition!

  • cool very excited

  • I got it for the 360 yesterday but for some reason the game is still not up on the east coast for the PSN version. The game is freakin hard as all heck. I still remember why I broke so many controllers back on my NES. But as a supporter to the PSN I will be getting this for my Playstaion as well. I really want to see the difference in HD fidelity. lol
This game is HARD and unforgiving but that’s the way 2D games were back in the day. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Congrats to SONY for getting this title as well as many other hot hits on your PSN offerings. Peace

  • I’m getting both of them once they are available. Can’t wait.

  • I’m getting both for sure.

  • Antoher awesome game that we can’t buy from the store, thanks again Sony. A lot of people want to buy new stuff and expansions for their games but for me that I live in Mexico is impossible, why you don’t do something quickly, your losing money.

I think, like always, I’ll buy it for the Xbox 360, because they accept my credit card here in Mexico. And to let you know I prefer the PS3 over the other console.

  • michigander692002@msn.com

    Hey John,
I’m thinking the people here love you now. \(O_o)/ I don’t think I’ve ever seen the people here give such a huge response to anyone. All I’ll say is keep the great games coming and thanks for answering sooooooooo many questions all the time.

  • Hey John Diamonon, Im back! For this time, no complains, just congratulations.

I downloaded the Bionic Commmando demo yesterday in the Japanese PSN, man, Im really impressed. Loved. Getting today in USA Store.

And judging by the trailer, Bionic Commando Evolution looks promising too.

    See you in Megaman 9!

  • wooohoo, back to 2d, i miss 2d games…reminds me of a simpler tim

  • I’m very excited for this game! A PSN only surprise was something as a nice read for just waking up too. Thanks :)

I do hope Capcom is able to put out more classics to the PSN in terms of PSone games. That would be godly.

  • Oh god PLEASE NO TROPHY SUPPORT
I am addicted to getting every trophy possible and i have no life as it is

  • @john d many people have tryed getting monster hunter on the ps3!for many months they have tryed over and over and some capcom guy keep telling us to go to his blog and see the reason we wont be getting it.john there had to be something bigger we can do then going to capcom-unity.com(seem to be falling on death ears there)so what else can we do?
im sorry if i ask too many question let me know if i get on your nerves by commenting on your posts?

    • Erico, ask as many questions you like. I can\’t answer all but I\’ll try. Actually, our top guns all participate on Capcom-Unity. That is the best way to get through to us.

  • Stalking Silence makes very good points.

My whole thing is– I could care less about trophies. I come from the old school where finishing the game and enjoying getting there is why you play, not to impress yourself and your buddies that you got X number of trophies. To me, trophies are just a bonus, something to try and take a new crack at for a challenge, not get in a huff over.

Bionic Commando, Metal Gear, the Disney Afternoon lineup (Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin and Darkwing Duck, all by Capcom) not to mention Dodge Ball (WHACK!) were games I played over and over again for the sheer pleasure. It’s about time these trophy trolls stopped complaining and started playing again for fun for a change.

  • lol @124ps360

nice, your post DID make me laugh man!

    in game-cassette……

    rotfl!

  • I love the fact that you rereleasing some of these games but I still have street fighter alpha. So the glass is half full/empty for me. Can we talk about Marvel Vs Capcom 2 or 3 seriously!!! Throw me a bone

  • This is the day I get lost to my wife for quite a while… I’m so giddy I can’t think of a question, so I’ll reiterate something I said last week.

I don’t really WANT co-op to be online, but I would pay good money(as opposed to the not-so-good kind…) to be able to take the 4-player online. That’s what I want for Christmas…

  • I spent my spending money on 1942: Joint Strike… should have waited for this one :(

I’ll buy it as soon as I get more.

  • Will buy Bionic Commando but I wish SFA3 with the bonus characters available. Like SFA3 Max for the psp with online mode for the psn version.

  • I been following the blogs and last I knew IN-GAME MUSIC was being considered but nothing had been put on stone. JOHN D am I correct because I saw that #5 DryvBy said you had confirmed it? Is this true?

    Anyone know?

    • No in-game music. But I\’m sure Ben is reading this. I\’m getting a lot of comments in favor of this.
