Burnout Paradise – coming to PSN

Massive news this week, here on the Burnout team!

Today we’re proud to announce another PlayStation exclusive for Burnout Paradise. This fall, we’ll be making the entire game available for download via the US PLAYSTATION Store. You’ll finally be able to join us in Paradise City without leaving the comfort of your home, and you won’t have to get up to put the disk in!

A big thanks to the folks at Sony for making the future of video games a reality now. We’ll announce a release date soon, but in the meantime, it’ll look something like this:

Mock-up of US Playstation Store with Burnout Paradise on it

The download will be $29.99, but it’s not the disk version of the game we originally released back in January. This is an all-singing, all-dancing version complete with all the free packs so far. Here are some of the highlights. All new game modes, like Online Marked Man and Online Road Rage. Awesome new vehicles, including the Hunter Olympus and Nakamura Rai-jin Turbo. 70 all-new challenges featuring against-the-clock gameplay and leaderboards plus the in-game calendar and news page. Check the details on our website.

And this is just the start. We’re all about supporting Burnout players through online this year.

We want to change the way you think about DLC. We’re bringing you much more than just a couple of cars or a new track – this is the complete transformation of Burnout. That means you’ll see new game modes, new vehicles including motorcycles, day / night gameplay, weather, a huge new island play area, stacks of new challenges and maybe even aircraft!

The next pack from us will be the free Bikes Pack that we outlined in our last post. We promised a little more detail on what to expect. So here it is.

The two bikes available from Day 1 will be the FV1100 street bike and the Nakamura Firehawk V4 racing bike. With bikes, we’re introducing characters for the first time in a Burnout game. Both bikes feature designs for male and female riders. Just make your choice in the Junkyard.

Motorcycles 1

The Nakamura FV1100 is a no nonsense street bike. The sweet 1100CC engine delivers high performance with easy handling making it the most versatile bike in Paradise. The exposed engine doesn’t leave much room for stylish paintwork, but when the engine looks this good, who needs bodywork?

The Nakamura Firehawk V4 is thoroughbred racing bike. It arrives on the streets of Paradise straight from the race track! The Kanji characters on the guys’ version mean “fire”, but we also have a version for our female rider, featuring an all-new Burnout cartoon character.

We’ve got more on bikes from their Japanese creator – Yuta Nakamura – in our next video podcast, and of course our website – www.criteriongames.com

Burnout Paradise. Always changing.

  • Best. Value. Ever. I cannot believe how much FREE support you guys have given this game. My only question about the download is…
    When? When? When? When? Gimmiegimmiegimmie!!!
NOt only is “Fall” vague, but it’s too far away! Waaaah!
    :-)

  • The future is here!!!

I’m all for digital distribution, its a win-win situation for both the customer and the developer/publisher; leaving the rip-off merchants in limbo!

Hopefully game prices can come down a little while you guys maximise your return without having to spend so much on production and retail logistics.

Errr… -Where do I trade in my digital download?! lol

  • YES! VERY AWSOME!

  • Hi, I am a PSP owner just now getting back into Burnout Legends. Any love still for the PSP, (especially people like me who don’t go online with it)? Not that I’m expecting announcements here because that’s for press exclusives. I’m talking about maybe a theme or wallpaper. That would be nice and help add to the normally empty weekly listing for the PLAYSTATION Store for PC (though this week’s announcement did have some good content).

  • This is great stuff.
I have a question, we all this downloads I am going to have to upgrade to a larger HDD soon.
When I use the backup system to save my PS3 data to an external HDD or memory card and then upload it into a new internal HDD, does it also back up my locked saves (such as the burnout paradise save file)?
I would hate to upgrade my HDD and then loose all the hardwork that I put in this game.

    Anyone know?

  • Damn time consoles started selling “full” games this way.

This is the future… suck it gamestop

  • I personally do not like the idea that I paid for a disk and the same game with different content is available for download.

Just doesn’t seem fair. Will the new content be available for the original supportive disk owners?

    :P

  • This is a freaking MEGATON. The future is now.

  • I thought Microsoft was in the “DL content is the future” business but they have failed massively again as the PS3 puts another mainstream game on the PSN store.

  • Holly [DELETED]! This is awesome! Will buy!

  • @ 210

The PSN version will have the same exact content as the disc version plus all of the FREE updates that have come out. So, both the download and the disc version have the same content.

I’m not saying it’s Sony’s fault, I’m just saying it’s a *known fact* that over the past couple of years, internet providers in North America have been throttling downloads, particularly at certain times of the day.

How is Sony going to deal with/address the situation?

Don’t we have all that space on Blu-Ray so we don’t *need* to store stuff on our HDs?

What’s the point of introducing Blu-Ray at all if Sony is just going to start jumping into digital downloads?

    I expect a response Sony!

  • I played the demo and found it to be well done, but in the past couldn’t justify spending 60 dollars on a car game, as they usually don’t hold my attention for long. With the addition of motorcycles and the new price point, I’ll be scooping it up.
So even with the lowered price point, the developers will be seeing income from people like me who wouldn’t necessarily have purchased it previously. Win for all!

  • Hooray for more HDD-eating downloadable games. If Sony keeps releasing these disc-based games at this pace, we’ll need much more than 60 or 80GB of space in the future.

  • looks awsome :)

  • I can’t believe I missed out on this game for so long. I bought Burnout a couple of days ago when I saw it on the Greatest Hits collection and have enjoyed every minute of the game so far. I really like how you can just hop online with friends in this game with just 1 button. I can’t wait for the bikes, weather, and day-night cycle. By far, the most enjoyable game I have ever played.

  • Im getting this game today =]

  • Burnout Paradise is looking damn good! I must admit, it was collecting dust for a bit on my shelf as I got it a few months ago when I bought my PS3, but now I don’t think the disc will be leaving my PS3 anytime soon :).

Can’t wait for trophy support and the bikes pack :D.

  • Is it going to be possible to copy the whole game to the hard drive when this comes out (like if I have the disc version) so that I don’t have to leave the disc in?

  • Sweet… Y’now, I just bought my copy of the game because of all this awesome free updates. Waiting for it to arrive…
I wonder how will the aircraft work (if it comes out).

One thing, Jeremy: how much are you suposed save when you buy the game on PSN? Because all these updates are free, and I bought my disk version for exactly $29.99. Aren’t the box and manual suposed to cost a bit?

  • Glad to hear this. Thanks.

  • Sweet can’t wait to see my favrtie game on the front page of the Playstation store as you can see I already have the game with burnout 101!

  • when do we get the Bikes????

  • Paradise coming to PSN?!
I Can’t keep my pants on!
    Love It!
-Sony Rocks- (EA is cool too)

  • It’s nice to see a third party published title make the PSN, and a damn great one at that, I hope many others follow suit… as this is truly an overall benefit to man & gamerkind in general.

    Think…

1- reduced costs of shipping and distribution will eventually allow publishers to cut price corners for consumers… once the method is mainstream of course.

2- consumers no longer will need to leave the comfort of their home to hunt down a copy of any ‘said’ game… also probably increasing sales numbers of any particular title in the long run.

3- no laser wear, not that it’s an issue at all, just nice to know you are taxing your system less than possible by playing a downloadable installed copy of the game instead of streaming a disk for hours on end. It’s generally adding to the longevity of the system…(which reminds me,some people need to stop whining about mandatory installs, they serve many purposes, one of which allows your machine to last longer, and I’m a huge fan of that)

Anyway, Way to lead the charge Criterion, I was fond of your games before, knew the company name etc… but this earns my respect and adoration, I will follow your company from this point on. Behind you 100%.

  • Its nice to have the option to download it but i mean thats gonna be alot of space used on your hard drive. If you have the option of buying the disc version buy it. Ive seen it as low as 19.99 on sale. Plus with the digital version you cant trade or sell it down the line(why would you want to i know) but with the disc version its nice to know you have the option to do that.

  • Would you guys add an option to install the game to the HD ? since there will be a “download” version that doesnt use the BRay… i wish i could install it on my HD…

  • Don’t think installing the game from the disc would be a good idea. What about sending my copy of the game to Criterion or EA,then mail me a voucher for the download from the PSN store.

  • SWEET!!!! MORTORCYCLES!
I have a q. is this coming out the 22nd{this fri.} or next week. if it is coming out later can anyone tell me bacause then i may just buy a hard copy

    thanks
    Adam

I ~hate~ having to use discs.
