PAIN AMUSEMENT PARK OPEN!

Pain Character: Kenny
The Amusement Park is OPEN FOR BUSINESS! I’m really happy to announce the release of PAIN Amusement Park today. If you have been on the “PAIN Train” since the beginning you know this has been a long time coming. If you have never played PAIN before, it’s about time you found out why we have so much fun hurting ourselves and others.

The NEW PAIN Amusement Park represents quite a bit of gameplay evolution from the development side and substantial input from people who post here and on our community site: www.painps3.com

We also took a long hard look at the trophy requirements and after your extremely candid reactions to them decided that it was much better to dial them down. Not everyone who plays PAIN is as good as the top 10%.

Today, we have four NEW content additions:

  • One new PAIN Environment: The Amusement Park ($5.99 USD)
  • Three new launchable characters: Tati, Yeony and Kenneth ($.99 USD)
  • The Amusement Park: A new PAIN environment means you have new modes to cause PAIN, havoc and mischief all over again. Some familiar modes are back (HORSE, Fun With Explosives, Abusement Park) Some brand new modes are here to mix it up (Call da Shot, Clown Toss, Trauma, Hot n Cold) There’s more content in this add-on than there was in the original PAIN release!
  • We also have a fantastic new experimental PAIN mode called PAINLabs. PAINLabs will be our chance to give YOU new PAIN-Based experimental environments EVERY WEEK. FOR FREE! Here we will work with the community (you guys) to build new and improved game modes that will make their way into future expansions. Make sure you are there to grab those Lab experiments when they are posted. We will change them every week! And when you see something you like, post to our boards. I can assure you we read them.

We’ve spent enough time in the incubation stage now. PAIN content is now starting to hit a stride. I hope you guys enjoy The Amusement Park. We have a lot more in store. See you very, VERY soon.

Peace

  • Soooo ley me make sure I understand. You guys who say 5.99 is too much for another level of Pain. What you want from a small one or two man outfit creating this game is to put their time and money into the project and not get PAID for it? I know most of you don’t work, but how would you feel is your boss said that’s great you worked this week 40 hrs, but we are not going to pay you for it because we feel like your pay you got for working last week should be enough?
free is different when it is coming from a team like the people who made Burnout Paradise. THEY can afford to continue to pay their team to work on a project and put it out for FREE. seriously people wake up. You aren’t the only people trying to make ends meet.

  • pass, too little, too late.

  • I just think that its bogus that they design the majority of their trophies around the strategy of giving people an incentive to have to purchase characters and other pay content.

“Hmm how do we get people to pay for all these generic characters that add nothing significant to the game itself?”

“I know, lets make it so you HAVE to have them in order to unlock some of the trophies!”

Sad. Levels we should pay for (even though 5.99 is a bit much). Characters should be free.

  • Im struggling here how the hell do i get a million points lol????

  • I purchased the first PAIN game the day it came out, and I had fun playing it. I also purchased every downloadable character for the core game. I did so reluctantly, but I did. I thought that hopefully we’ll get a little more in return next time, boy was I wrong. PAIN is definately not worth the money. I will NOT buy this game untill they rethink their pricing schedule. This is pretty sad, sorry, but this is just a mediocre game that is further ruined by either its own developement costs, or maybe it’s just greed.

  • bring on the pain, bring on the hurt

  • The creators of PAIN should take a lesson from TIKI Games and NOVASTRIKE…the full pain now costs over $20….. for that price you could get WIPEOUT HD which is a game I will be playing for the REST OF MY LIFE… f’ this game.

  • @45
I would not say this game is the worst game/rip-off on the PSN. Do not forget the GO SPORTS SKYDIVING AND SKIING CRAP they released:)

  • wow, i’ll get the amusment park but the character should be free. I mean they dont even offer anything new.

  • this game would be a lot funner if the custom music supported AAC. I have no desire to convert my 4GB of music into the lesser mp3 format for one game (that should have supported both in the first place) it’s not a big deal, it’s just the lack of it makes me play the game less is all.

  • Stuff like this (all of this, everything you’ve done) is what makes me proud to be an early adopter on a game simply based on a concept. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve always had tons of fun with Pain before, and with all this stuff it will be like the game just came out all over again!

  • By the end of today I’ll be 30 something dollars short. It’s great. :)

  • I don’t get it. IN two player, I can only play “Trauma” “fun with explosives” and “Hot’n’Cold” in the new level. And I can only play the 3 orignal game modes in the original level.
IS there a bug? does the game need to be patched are the new modes only avaible in single player? This is kinda no fun. My roommate and I were dying to play “Horse” in a new level.

  • First of all…pain is an awesome game…if people actually played the original…and mastered it…they would realize that this update will be awesome. Sure there should be more trophies but for those you have never played pain..give it another try.

If and when they ever implement online play…it will rule…but we will have Little Big Planet long before then…

  • Just a comment about the PAIN and Amusement Park to the developers of this game.

I have yet to purchase the Amusement Park but might do so soon enough. However, I think that you should’ve at the very least included in the new characters with the Amusement Park. You included two characters with the original game which was one level.

To all the people complaining about paying $10 like many did and get two characters I am not saying that it is right in any way. This for a reason is why I am scared about DLC. The reason being that developers such as yourselves can go ahead and release the game with one level and two characters and the day of release have five DLC characters when it was perfectly easy to put them into the game.

If the DLC comes later then fine I can understand its not free. However, some games like Warhawk gave a HUGE update for free and then had new maps and items for a reasonable price. They even include a bundle that gives a discount. Please learn from the developers of Warhawk and at least make a bundle with all characters to make it a bit cheaper.

Nice work though on the update and thank you for the trophies. Although as someone said earlier that the in game achievements should’ve been trophies like Uncharted: Drakes Fortune had.

  • @Everyone: You do not need to buy expansions to get trophies. As a matter of fact for the size of PAIN we are at the maximum allotment for trophy points without you buying a single bit of content. So please don’t think that was some sort of a trick.

When we release new content (which we do all the time in PAIN) we get more trophy points to allocate so there is no conspiracy going on. Every game on the PlayStation follows the same rule.

@Adman: It is available now in Europe. There is no delay. SCEE was awesome getting this out in record time. No more SCEE hate. No need to leave PAIN to get Amusement Park just get the patch and buy it from inside the game.

@Seanscythe: Online play is not part of PAIN yet but is coming in the months ahead.

@Cywulf: We take ideas from our fans and build experimental PAIN constructs for you to play through. This happens every Thursday and if we all agree something has legs we take it to the next level which is inclusion in a future PAIN release.

@Sholay: Give those trophies a try they are much more attainable now.

@MSplatter: Both the games you are talking about cost significantly more than PAIN. If you want to pay me 60 bucks I will be happy to give you PAIN updates for “free”

@MeltTech: I am talking to the Qore people now. No promises but I would love to work out some sort of deal with them. I will keep you posted it’s a very good idea.

@Vitz: Wake up on the wrong side of the bed today? You’re kinda in the minority here, but thanks for sharing.

@Havok: If there was a mention of this being free it certainly wasn’t by someone who knew what they were talking about.

@Axeblade: I am not sure if we can do it but I think it’s a brilliant idea. I will suggest it to the group.

@Mike: As someone who had to distribute the points for PAIN trophies go back and check your facts. You will find that PAIN is balanced quite well. The lions share of the trophy points in PAIN you don’t have to purchase anything. Just patch.

@Wip3ou7: I guess if your name was P@1n you would be on my side. Oh well.

@Syrlis: Working on that option actually.

@Enjoi: Trauma is like HORSE except the points are on damage done to you. It’s very similar. And if you want an “upgraded” HORSE then play “Call Da Shot” it’s a more complex version of HORSE.

@ChocoDK: With this release you are getting as much content as you did in Downtown. Not to mention the addition of PAINLabs for four dollars less. I happen to think that’s fair. The in game trophies for PAIN couldn’t map directly to PSN trophies. That’s way too many points.

  • Bottom Line: I think a lot of people are feeling ripped off by this whole PAIN-ful experience. The original game, even at $10, was far from a great value. With only one playable level, the game felt more like a small demo than an actual release. Hell, it was even “light” by demo standards.

And then to have the nerve to charge a dollar for every additional character (which adds absolutely NOTHING to the gameplay experience)…it’s bloody ludicrous.

Charge for extra levels, sure, but don’t continue to slap your customers in the face with $0.99 characters. Throw those in for free. And in doing so perhaps you’ll learn a little lesson about value propositions, and the importance of giving your customers their money’s worth.

  • ed dont be so touchy, $10 woohoo, buy the characters if you want the trophies..yea its kinda crazy you have to buy em but big deal, hardcore gamers will…companies have to make money too…i mean you coulda bought an xbox or haze ='[

  • Thanks for adding in trophy support and quite frankly for making them a lot more easy to get. Personally, I think $5.99 might be a little on the high side but I am glad to still see you guys coming out with new material.

  • @Vitz: When you call my work and my teams work crap don’t expect VIP treatment. No one says don’t share your views but keep it civil or post somewhere else. From your previous post it seemed like we didn’t have your money anyways so I guess it’s for the best.

@Touchy: You don’t HAVE to purchase characters. So I would hardly call that a slap. I would think some people would appreciate not having to pay for content they don’t want. Although I would love if you bought every character it’s not mandatory. We make a lot of content for what we charge. If you don’t see it that way I can understand that too. And there are different attributes to the characters. Most of it has to do with weight size/shape and power.

  • hey Travis thanks for the update!

I really wanted Pain trophies (because I love the urban graffiti art style Idol mind uses so much!)

My profile should look pimpin now :)

  • pointless easily gets boring game

  • two thumbs way ^ for the trophy patch guys! now for the Pixeljunk Monsters patch and I’ll be all set!

    thanks,
    Lh

  • @Travis: Thank you for responding to my comment. I still disagree though that you are getting as much content with the Amusement Park that you did with the Downtown because you don’t get two new characters. However, it could be argued by you that the Amusement Park bundle is $4.00 less then the game PAIN itself. Either way I appreciate you and your team are still trying to give an effort into PAIN unlike other companies *stares at developers at Call of Duty 4*

in Laymans terms you just got pwned! Travis is right. The people on this blog have really lost touch and comment just for the sake of commenting. I find a LOT of the comments here rude and just downright cruel to the hard work and time that the devs put into their product and for you people to come on here post that their stuff is ‘pointless’ and ‘crap’ is really insulting. I sure would love to see that ban hammer in full swing right now! Cue Mr. Jeff.

    peace,
    Lh

  • I feel your pain Travis(no pun intended). Regardless how many times you explain it, certain people will make an effort to complain about something.

Anyhow, some of these trophies look like a challenge but I’m willing to continue playing…if not for the trophies but for the fun of it as usual. Thanks again for the updates and taking the time to respond to fans and critics alike.

    Respect!

  • Finally! Finally! A new playground is here!

Thank you guys! Thanks a lot for changing the trophy system from the one you originally planned and set out to punish players with! ;)

  • Wow. Can’t take a bit of backlash now can you Travis? Deleting comments is just weak man.

There are people who think your game is a rip-off, deal. Don’t cry and hover over the delete button whenever something bad about your game creeps up.

So far Travis has deleted 8 comments that put Pain in a negative light. You’re a sad man.

Your whole studio should be shut down.

  • Were you at PAX Travis? I could’ve sworn that a guy in front of me in a line for Little Big Planet was named Travis. He was speaking to the LBP producer like they knew eachother. Don’t know exactly what you look like since your pic has you looking down, but I was just curious.

  • @vitz3

Travis would never delete your comment(hes been hit with worse at painps3.com) yet he takes the time to reply to trolls like you…

If anything you got modded by somebody else.

  • I think Pain is a decent change of pace game with a unique concept that has good qualities. Pricing decisions is another matter.

I agree with those that say they felt overcharged for the core game, I know I did. I don’t think this new environment should be free, however. For me, this price point would have been tolerable if the core game would have been cheaper. It wasn’t, so this price point just doesn’t work for me.

They can charge what they want, they made it. The consumers ultimately decide whether that price is for them or not. I’ll pass on this and recommend others wait for a price drop down the road, some future bundle discount with another inevitable new environment, or just pass all together.

I’ll take the free trophy update, though. Thanks.

  • Vitz, take it easy and quit throwing around petty accusations. If anything has been deleted it was probably by folks who moderate the blog and for good reason.

Like Travis mentioned, you’re allowed to cry your hearts out about how much PAIN upsets you but try being less juvenile about it. No disrespect but you come off as being nothing more than a troll.

  • Thanks Travis for the update and keep the good work.

oh i almost forgot you said before that you going to bring sony carcters to the game,so kindly can gave us an update on that?

    Idol Minds rocks.

  • I’ll admit to not buying the game until it was on the $5 summer sale. Besides me, I know 3 other friends who did the same thing. Of the 4 I was the first to buy the extra characters, and I was reluctant at first. However a few of the new characters do change the game. They’re smaller, fly differently, and it can make some objectives easier and some harder.

Upon explaining this to my 3 other friends two of them then bought most if not all of the characters.

I will say that the game isn’t worth $10 to me, but it has been more than worth $5. This is a rare game in that it’s fun to play and fun to watch somebody else play. You’ll have my $8 when I get home in about an hour.

Travis: Thanks for attempting to point out that people can have opinions while still being respectful. Hopefully it spreads around here…

  • Have most of you guys been living under a rock? People don’t make these games for [DELETED] and giggles… It’s still a JOB… They kinda need to get paid for their work. If you don’t want to buy it, that’s fine by you, but there’s no reason to be an ass about it…

I doubt most of the guys who post the nasty things here even have a job… Either that or your maturity level definitely doesn’t match your age, which in that case you should get a reality check. How about you spend hours working on something for me. I’ll refuse to pay for it… but want it anyways… Does that seem fair?

  • I really wish you guys would release character packs for cheaper since you seem to release new characters in groups, I also would like to know if theirs any chance of seeing a first party sony character in pain since kratos appeared in hotshots golf, I would love to shoot kratos out of a giant sling shot

  • THANK YOU I LOVE YOU…..just takes along time to download the atch with my crappy server

  • To be honest, I forgot about Pain long time ago… :(

Sorry but almost 1 year just to get a new stage, in a game that was planned (I guess) to be modular, to have multiple DLC, it’s unacceptable.

And Travis, when you say that you don’t have to buy new characters… It’s true and false. True: you don’t have to buy them… False: IF you want to have all the trophies, you HAVE to have a female character or a dwarf character.

So, we could say that at the moment, if you want to have the “full” experience of Pain, you would have to pay about 18$ (Pain + Park + 1 female + 1 dwarf)…. For 10$, you can have awesome remake of an 80’s classic that, in my opinion, has more replay value, with the multiplayer, than Pain. And this game is Bionic Commando Rearmed…

If I’m right, BC:R was completely made in about or little more time that it took to the team of Pain to create one new stage…

Let me say that I’m doubtful that the Pain lab will achieve its promises of new, free stuff every weeks… As we see with the Park expansion, new stuff every 2-3 months would be surprising.

Sorry for the [DELETED], but someone, somewhere seem to have not done his job. I’m not necessarily saying that Travis didn’t do his job. Maybe Sony didn’t give Pain Team enough man power to achieve their goal in a reasonable time frame.

Anyways, I still wish Pain Team the best of luck, but I’m doubtful that Sony is going to get my 6$ for this one…

  • yes.

  • Great game, purchased the Amusement Park just now!
I’ve put more time into this game than some I’ve paid $60 for, just depends on if it is what you want to play. I find it highly entertaining and especially fun with others around to watch the action. :D

  • Sony, there is a glitch with Hung Lo and the Mime Toss 5 bullseyes. I have now gotten 7-8 bullseyes 5 times, and it will not give me the trophy or the in game trophy. The are reports all over internet forums as well. Please Fix, I hope you see this, since its at the bottom.

  • another trophy that doesnt work is the “Grenade-a-Maid”.

  • @Cartman: No, I wasn’t at PAX I wanted to be. I love shows where you can speak directly to gamers. Maybe next year. I miss Seattle.

@CaptainFury: Thanks because I don’t even have the rights to delete anything on this board.

@Wrigley: I can respect that response. I always say PAIN cost less than most fast food dinners… but you know I guess I have different sensibilities. I have paid more for less in the past. Not only do you get the Trophy Update you will get PAINLabs and online multiplay when we release so I think PAIN packs in a lot for the price point. Then again I am kinda biased.

@Ghamdikh: When we announce I promise you will hear about it.

@Tdh: I always feel like if you have a forum you need to be prepared for the good, bad and the ugly. Everyone won’t agree with you but that’s life. Thanks for the support. Really. I hope that when our multiplayer patch comes out you play with your friends online.

@Jayceon: Cheaper than a buck? And we will have some cool characters coming that you know very soon.

@Hedrakk: You wanna bet on that weekly tip? I’ve got some cash burning a hole in my pocket. We have actually been doing a lot of work. You will start to see a lot more PAIN content now. We have been working on more than the Amusement Park all this time. I said before we wish we knew we would be so popular we would have done more work upfront. Now I honestly think we are hitting our stride. The next few months you give us a grade alright?

@Caliblue: I will investigate. Make sure your katana is not hitting other things that de-validate your score. Hung has a lot of moving parts.

@JBruno: Grenade does work remember it’s YOU that have to hit the explosions not explosions you cause. So make sure YOU are blowing up 200+ times not that you have caused 200+ explosions.

  • I just want to know when the game will go online. Great concept but boring with out being able to play with online friends. Please respond.

  • hey travis.. what about the zombies characters that you submit some cool concepts… where that idea went?

  • Erm Travis, that’s BS.

-Use Ed to explode 500 barrels in Clown Toss (= Amusement Park)
-Hit the target stuffed Ninja in every Abusement Park Mode (=Amusement Park)
-Get 2.000.000 score in Abusement Park and After Hours (=Amusement Park)
-Take the Clown for a ride on the Roller Coaster (don’t see any roller coaster then the one in the Amusement Park)

The others I’m not sure yet, haven’t played it much but here are already 5 trophies which require the Amusement Park.

You make easier customers when you at least give characters for free. IMO Amusement Park should have been free, as 9,99USD is already enough as it is. Take a look at Criterion, they release patches for free, you get bikes, extra events, trophies and more to come. People buy the game because they read about this stuff. Wow, we get patches for free! I want to have that game, is what you read a lot when one of the guys of Criterion is writing info about their latest patch.

  • By the way fun with explosives was and still is my favorite :-D

  • No love for Australia, Pain Amusement isn’t even out here yet on PSN :(

Boo hoo Australia gets everything last.
