PS3 Firmware update (v2.43)

284 0

Hi, everyone, I wanted to give you a heads up about PS3 firmware update (v2.43). Unlike previous updates, firmware v2.43 is specific to the Japan region, and only PS3 users there will be required to
install the update. PS3 users in all other regions will not be prompted to download v2.43. However, if you manually initiate a firmware update by clicking on “System Update” under the XMB’s Settings icon, the v2.43 update will be available, regardless of where you are located.

Users outside of Japan do not need to perform this update if your PS3 system software is on version v2.41 or later. However if you do perform the update, it will not cause any issues with your system or add any new functionality.

  • @GGCAN then I guess you’re not thinking about environment issues, since the PS3 eats power. I never leave my PS3 on 24/7, only when I’m gaming, the rest of the day the thing is “off”. I love the PS3 but only thing I hate about it, is that it consumes so much power. Sony needs to think about that and come with chips which make the power consumption drop massively. 143watts for regular gaming is insane. The WII only consumes about 17watts and the 360 only the half of it.

  • Erm I mean 360 consumes half the power of the PS3, not of the WII of course :-?

  • Ow and I just wait for the next official update, if I’m not forced to update, I won’t. I wish that could be the option, only update when necessary, like with games or certain feature which requires the update. Not like with every single little update you need to download before you can even go online via PSN.

  • I guess this update was to prep for Life with Playstation thanks to the leak. Glad to at least find out that Life w/ Playstation isn’t a myth, lol.

Everyone at Sony is really on a role recently. It’s nice to see that someone is dedicated to solving their consoole problems and listening to the consumers.

  • 147 & 149 THANK YOU. I’m on the same page as you.. SONY we NEED a bluetooth mic fix. this isssue is well documented all over the net. Especially with socom coming out soon shouldn’t this BT mic issue be addressed? FIX THE BT MICS!!

  • @Onna76_NL

Actually Onna, I am…I know the PS3 chews up lots of power.

But you know what…I have changed all my lightbulbs to be Environment compliant….do my laundry after midnight…..have dimmer switches on all my lights.

Normally people that come over say ‘What are you a mole, it’s so dark in here, I’m gonna fall over something”

So it’s a give and take situation.

    Just that I LOVE MY PS3 !!!!

  • Sorry to bug in again, but why does Sony need to fix 3rd party Bluetooth mic issues when they’ll be having their very “own” headset pretty soon? Sounds like a smarter idea to make your own work well on the PS3 so people will buy the official Sony version sooner.

Sony, why did you delete my first comment posting about your mistake?

Jeff Rubenstein replied on September 16, 2008 at 8:05 pm

because you were complaining about looking stupid. Do as you will.

    —————————————
    ^Hahaha, that made me laugh.

  • @GGCAN, lol :-D Doing your laundry after midnight hasn’t got to do with environment issues but because else your electric bill will be too high when it comes to expensive energy, am I right?

  • @Onna76_NL

You’re right…but our Goverment tells us by doing it, we’re saving the Environment.
They say if you do it during the day when businesses are running….you’re chewing up additional power.

Not sure if you heard (I know you’re in Europe), but a few years back there was the Eastern coast blackout ?

Well, Toronto was part of that and our power was off some places for about a week…..You sure realize how much we depend on power when things like that happen.
As well, that’s when the government here was telling us….do your dishes and laundry on weekends or late at night.

Forgot to mention….I also work from home and only fill up my tank, maybe once a month (glad for it with gas prices lately).

If people could do this more often, we’d sure be saving on air pollution.

Not only that Onna….look at what these countries are doing now….buying carbon credits…it’s a real shame.

  • thanks for the update… keep up the good work.

  • Forgot to mention

I really believe Folding@Home is going to help discover new cures for many of the diseases that they are concerned about.

To me it’s like giving something to a charity….

That’s why it’s on all the time…(we just gotta find a source of energy that is Environmentally friendly).

  • Will doing this update make the next American update faster to install?

  • The newest PS3 models are using the 65nm process on the Cell and the RSX. What do you want, a 45nm process?

The Wii of course uses less when its 10 year old hardware, and the 360 uses about 75% of the power the previous PS3s (90/65nm process) used.

    @People with bluetooth problems
Try the 2.43 update, maybe there’s an update to the bluetooth. I am not having any problems with my bluetooth but then again I don’t use headsets.

  • I’ve heard the bluetooth headset problem too,
however, if anyone has the PS3 Eye…it works great.

I’ve used it with others using it as well in Socom Beta and we had no problems.

  • @ThomasAntony, yeah I do want that and according to facts on the Internet Sony was working on the 45nm Cell, still no info about the CPU. Probably will come around as soon as a slimmer PS3 version is hitting the market.

  • @Onna76_NL

    Isn’t the new PS3 for $399 the 45nm Cell ?

I thought it was and that’s why the price was cut from 499 to 399.

I know the US and Canada are selling it now…since about August 08…

  • Jeff you are the man. Do lot let these xbox fanboys bring you down!

  • @ Posted by Al De Leon // PR Manager, SCEA

Why post news on a US Playstation site about anthor region?

    Thats odd…

  • Well I suppose this is good information. I remember last time there was something like this on the PSP there was an immediate update to alleviate the PSP spot stuff.

  • Now that Japan is getting it’s fair share, how abput announcing the next “real” update that incorporates an in-game screenshot feature?

    PS3-4-3V3R

  • Hi could you tell us one thing about Life With Playstation all us Playstation users would love to hear something.

    Thanks!

  • Come on Sony, why no respone on Life w/ Playstation? You release it then take it away and we got no explanation? Come on guys.

  • @wamer2000

If you go to the PS3 Fanboy site…there’s a blog called ‘Life with Playstation was downloadable but not for long’.

Some people that got it by mistake before it was pulled are telling others what they are seeing.

Looks like a great new application that will hit us soon.

  • Well one of my new PS3 friends got the Life update.

I just checked (he’s really running Folding@Home), but it’s telling me he’s running
    Life@Playstation.

    Very nice.

  • @GGCAN no, in Europe the 80GB is simply the 40GB model so with 65nm Cell.

I just read that the life@playstation was oops silly us we made a mistake issue. So that’s why Sony hasn’t responded yet. Probably figuring out “what” exactly happened. I rather wait until the official product before it has bugs or anything else what should have noticed through the test which Sony was doing at the moment. Consider yourself as beta testers for Life@home :-D

  • Erm life@playstation… I’m outta here for today… making too many messages and too many mistakes :-(

  • This is the kind of post where we can ask the genie for three wishes?

Wish 1: I would like to ask for .mkv and .mov video support!!!

Wish 2: An internet browser upgrade for both ps3 and psp with the latest Flash player!

Wish 3: All ps1 and psp games available on the PS store.

  • @Onna yep..

I made a mistake….it says Life With Playstation when I look at his id…not Life@Playstation.

Just to get the right facts out there.

  • read the site carefully over, they saying JP region already started the application… I don’t see it in the US… (-_-)

  • Keep that in your mind “Life with… playstation”… How is it? I mean… life with playstation? I mean… the software not the products, although Playstation rules and living with Playstation is fun…

    *I need my pills*

  • @Onna….ha ha….ya I get like that late at night too.

Take a look at the PS3 Fanboy site…there’s an article on Life….also has a short video that someone sent in.

It’s Folding@Home, but there’s weather conditions around the globe and news..

Really good to check when you want the news or weather in an instance.

Don’t take those pills, just go get some rest.

  • Jeff, please close that can of woop ass.

  • @Reinheart, read it again… you “can” update it to 2.43 only they say it won’t have much or no effect to the PS3 consoles in the US / EU… Though, apparently Life With Playstation (yeah, yeah) popped up after updating Folding@home as well, by accident. Though its no longer available so updating to 2.43 might be fun to see your system getting an upgrade in firmware but basically won’t give any improvements nor extras. The update has therefore the most and only effect to people owning a Japan system.

@GGCAN, its only 8:40pm over here, looks like its kiddy bedtime for this grown up ey.

I’ll take a look am curious, but from what you’re telling me it sure sounds interesting, can’t wait!

    Nighty night :-P

  • Just commenting here…sorry if you don’t want to listen, but….

People are writing to Jeff here and then later get upset that Jeff doesn’t respond.

People, this blog for 2.43 was written by Al De Leon why don’t you ask Al instead of Jeff.

I’m sure Jeff is very busy at this moment.

  • @184 Onna76_NL
Little Big Planet beta test application…
The blog deleted my previous post about this so my post looks weird.

    As for the firmware update…
I read Japanese PS3 site for the firmware update report, it’s for JP region to start video downloads on PS Store downloads.

Wonder why my previous post got deleted anyways… maybe the link was causing the problem.

ttp://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/105/105772/ (add the h in front to see article in Japanese if you can read)

my @180 post was refering to my previous post about this. Japanese game magazine Dengeki stated on 9/17 (JP time) they started application for beta test for Little Big Planet through Playstation store and beta test starting on 09-29 globally, and wondering if its Global, where is US beta test information on LBP?

Since PS store updates normally on Thursdays, we may probably see this tomorrow.

If my post got deleted for translating something released in game magazines, game websites in Japan, this blog is pretty [DELETED] messed up.

  • @reinheart….

No I think it will post…it happens to me too when I post a link to another website.

I think Sony has to review them first so they aren’t directing you somewhere that you don’t want to visit.

It most likely will appear later on.

I try now not to include site links..

  • @ GGCAN

Thanks for the refferal. Sounds plausable. :)

  • SWEET THANKS 4 THE QUICK INFO, WISH IT WOULD FIX MY INSTALL ERROR CODE THAT HAPPENS WHEN I TRY TO INSTALL DEMOS

  • who cares about some firmware that does nothing, why even release it in north america, how about giving us news we actually want like the littlebigplanet beta, home, eye of judgement set 3 and trophies

  • @185: Jeff reads the comments regardless of who made the post.

  • Humm, I didn’t know what this update is about, but apparently nothing.

  • I have a US user net acct and a JP net acct. I got the JP acct to get DLC for my JDM games. Will this update effect me playing JP games on my US system? Will it effect me using the JP PSstore account I have on my US PS3? I know I am not required to get this update. BUT, this update is for JP users and I use JP discs and the JP store. AND, since the next REQUIRED update will probably have this one in it…I need to know what will happen. Thanks.

  • @191….I’m sure he does too.

Just I’m tired of hearing people whine later on that Jeff never replies to any of their messages.

Pretty sure these people are extrememly busy with projects at the moment…so we’ve just got to be a little more patient.

    That’s all I really meant.

  • what does this update do for the people in Japan any ways

  • from wiki= (2.43) Changes to support the release of rental content on Playstation Store in the Japan region.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_System_Software

  • So? When are we PS3 owners getting SKYPE?

  • jeff is beast hands down

  • @194: In that case, I agree.

  • COULD THIS BE WHAT THE UPDATE WAS ABOUT???

Sony has told Future Publishing journalists that Life with Playstation was released TODAY BY MISTAKE. It has since been removed, but the 126MB download which was available earlier today transformed the Folding@Home application into the new Life with Playstation channel while F@H performs its regular activities in the background while you read the news. Sony added that the temporary release which was by mistake came as they were testing the application.
