PlayStation.Blog Readers: “First!” to 100,000

188 8

I’ve been out of the office almost the entirety of the past 3 weeks (New York, Orlando, Tokyo), so I’m a bit behind on some of the paperwork. But on September 21st, 2008 at 4:43 pm, user “jskillzball” commented:

thanks for the post i always feel better after i come home from football and read these blogs.

Well, that was a nice sentiment. The Blog Bean Counters (they’ll *love* being referred to like that) informed me that jskillzball also helped us reach a milestone. And by “us” I mean “you” – comment #100,000. Seeing as how we had published about 650 posts at that time, that’s an average of over 150 comments per post! Take a look around the internet – you’re not going to see such a consistently dedicated group of readers too often. It’s like everyone in Burbank, California or Cambridge, Massachusetts posted one time each! (I don’t think that’s what happened, right?)

It’s been an interesting ride, as you readers are just as likely to point out what you don’t like as you are to let us know what you enjoy. For instance, I believe roughly 78% of the comments were demands for In-Game XMB (I kid, I kid!). Seriously though, we definitely appreciate the constructive critiques, and when you see an often-requested feature show up in a game’s patch or firmware update, I believe it’s proof that “the system works.”

And I can tell you from experience that game developers have told me the feedback they’ve received on this Blog, from readers like you, has been incredibly useful to them – hopefully as much as the post you’ve commented on was to you.

Hanging out

So please, keep them coming, even if it’s just to say “trophies, kthxbai!” And please continue to keep them (mostly) on-topic, as that helps make sure that the right sets of eyes are reading your opinions. I’m sure we’ll reach comment #200,000 in no time. Thank you.

Oh, and jskillzball, I’ll be contacting you when I get back from TGS, I believe a schwag bag is in order.

  • Jeff, any word on the Resistance 2 beta?, also don’t disappoint us in TGS!!! looking forward to it!

  • Well I can tell you, I read the site everyday, and unlike most sites I actually read the comments here too!
Thanks for the great Blog, and keep up the good work. -revscott

  • @100 – xXxNiteMarexXx

I agree with your comment about some coverage of the Toronto show on Oct 7/08.

I was sent an email to go, but have had to work a lot of overtime the last few weeks, so I couldn’t attend.

It would be nice to see a blog article of what did occur in Toronto. (I know Jeff wasn’t there, as he’s writing his article from Tokyo).

  • i think they should give away a PS3 bundle, PSP 3000 with go cam and gps for the
1 000 000th(millionth) poster and that will be me. I plan to watch the comments and keep a daily/yearly tab on when the 1 000 000th post will be had. That will be a milestone for sure. Also the only other BLOG that gets this much commenting is: engadget.com you folks should check it out seeing as your all very tech savy.
    Not advertising just posting.

    I deserve home beta!

  • Sake bombs are in order. Please, PLEASE do it the correct way with the sake resting on chopsticks above your Japanese beer. Then everyone slams the table and the sake falls in. It is the only way to do it Jeff, but I’m sure you already knew that.

  • Read the blog everyday love the updates.
    Thanks Jeff!

  • This just shows how big the Playstation community is.

  • Congratulations on hitting the milestone. So when are we getting the ability to transfer our Blu-ray movies to our PSPs?

  • We need a better web browser. We need flash update. we need Life with Playstation to not interfere with our downloads when it is on.

  • Jeff I charge you good Sir with the duty of taking pictures of all the hot booth babes and posting on the blog.
Are you man enough for this mission, well are ya??

  • Jeff, please find out when Wipeout HD is gonna be fixed.

  • Don’t forget my Patapon question.

I found out about the multiplayer information from 1up but will this game be part of the select games to allow connectivity to the ps3 to allow others to play online together?

Oh and I just read on IGN about White Knight Chronicle’s Online feature. Whenever you have the chance PLEASE try to get as much information as you can. Especially ask if we can invite Friends from our PSN list to play in coop. I just read they have an auto matchmaking feature which is okay but i prefer it if I can play with a friend.

  • Great job everyone!
Talking of things we’d like to see in future firmware updates; I’d like to be able to set the sound output to my USB/bluetooth headset.

  • While you guys are listening, any chance you could mention the desire for Dark Mist + the Depths of Darkness expansion to make it to the North American market to the higher ups again?

  • Please make it so that you/we/I can access Items in a media server when inside Life with playstation or any other application. Right now you can only access things in your HDD. The thing is why would I store media in my HDD if I have an specialized media server for that. Also there’s licensing issues.

  • Congrats Jeff! It seems like only yesterday I registered onto this Blog. The absolute best think about it is that we hear from you and you hear from us! I love it. It is the best.

    And now my usual requests…

    1. Browser current Flash support
    2. Browser more cache memory
    3. Video downloads need to be able to have purchased videos downloaded per PSN ID regardless of number of times
    4. Need a play all feature for videos in a folder

    Thanks! You guys rock!

  • Oh oh oh, also make it easier to see if you have unread messages. It should be right beside the clock along with how many unfinished downloads are left.
Also make the battery indicator not clash with the clock.

Another thing is that reading messages is kind of a hassle.

Once you read one if you press back you are taken back to the XMB not the inbox. The reply option is not always there and default option is to check the gamer’s gamercard intead of writing a message so I always end up entering the gamercard by accident many times.

  • Omedetou Gozaimasu!!! Congrats on reaching 100k comments! :D

  • HAHA awesome…the blog rocks!

I have contributed at least 500 or so!

I usually check up on it first thing on my ps3 via the ticker…read up on whats new.

I cant wait until I get LBP I am going to make a specific level for every holiday!

  • multi users of PSN, if i have a friend and we want to play a cooperative mode of anygame, he can use his own PSN User, we need a site to see our statics online in anyplace

  • I believe 99,999 of those comments were from people asking for beta codes for LittleBigPlanet. Which, by the way, thanks. Good game.

  • awesome i love the Playstaion Blog now if we could just get the videos to play when we access the blog from our PS3 and a must have feature xross game chat and xross game invite and yes please use the x instead of c when you make the features avaliable

  • Congrats on the milestone, but I still think the accounts here should just be your PSN ID.

  • PS3 Internet Browser Flash Update PLEASE!

What happened to the auto-shutdown with F@H??

    I want, I want, I want, I want!

Thanx guys, keep up the great work!

  • Show us the new Team Ico game! :D

  • dam-too late

  • Did they count all the posts that got deleted from the different posts in the past. I know there were times there were thousands of comments all through the night and then they were wiped by the next morning.

  • @176 – Nynja

Auto shutdown for Folding@Home is still there…just have to access it a bit differently, but it is still available…(you can actually set it for a timed shutdown).

  • JUST GIVE US IN GAME XMB FOR CRYING OUT LOUD……anychance of voice chat via the xmb?

Seriously great blog, read this everyday although i only post if i feel the need.

    DTS MAN

  • @175 Totally agree! would be a very nice touch.

    DTS MAN

  • Congratulations to Jeff and everyone on the PS.Blog from all of us at Destructoid.com! Keep up the great work!

  • congrats on the milestone and giving us a place to talk and sometimes vent =D

  • since i been reading this blog
i got hold of the lbp beta
so this is my favorite blog

  • Keep up the great work. I check out the PS blog a couple times a day.

I would like to see occasionally a blog about what we PlayStation community are thinking about. For instance I would like to know when we will be able to download Blu-ray content to our PSP.

  • Just came by to say I love the blog. Everyone here seem to be more……calm then the forums.

  • Grats on another milestone, I shall continue to post and read!

  • Hey Jeff could you add me on psn ? its moe24 thanks hope to see you on psn!!!

  • Hmm. 100k. Nice.

  • mmm schwag!

    :P

  • ***BIG ONE***

Music. We should be able to listen to music while; using the XMB (changing settings, etc), PS Store, Internet Browser, messaging friends, viewing pictures, and everything else. It is one feature of the 360 I like that I wish the PS3 could do.

It is a little disappointing that Sony (who has a major background in Music) does not allow us to listen to music while we access the many features available on the PS3.

Oh yea, I almost forgot: CROSS-GAME CHAT!!

    Okay, I’m done (for now).

    Thanx Sony!

  • It’s nice that the comment was something positive instead of a flame. Sony has a great online community!

  • Great blog, great job, doesn’t seem insincere, and it’s informative.

And now to my request: DRM-free videos.

    KTHXBAI.

  • Congratz on the Blog
I was wondering how do u get a job in like Playstation?
    Just wondering….
