Firmware 5.0 Demo: PlayStation Store on PSP

410 2

Hi everyone, as Eric mentioned in his post yesterday, we wanted to give you a live demo of the PSP’s direct access to PlayStation Store, which will be coming with the 5.00 firmware update. Now whenever your PSP is connected to the Internet over WiFi, you’ll be able to download and enjoy the latest games, demos and trailers on the go without needing to sync up to your PS3 or PC. Here’s a brief walk-through of what you’ll experience.

On a related note, the PS3 firmware update (2.50) will add Flash Player 9 support to the PS3 Web browser, so you’ll be able to actually watch this video (and all of our blog videos) on your PS3 once the firmware goes live!

In addition, I want to point out that the PlayStation Network is scheduled to be unavailable in North America today from 11AM to 4PM PST due to essential maintenance work.

  • FINALLY I CAN WATCH GAMETRAILERS ON MY PS3. FINALLY I CAN VIEW OTHER WEBPAGES THAT REQUIRE FLASH. THANK YOU SONY.

  • Flash Player 9!! Outstanding. This is a moment to be proud to own a PS3!!

  • just curious if there is anyway to update Flash Player because that could be why some gamers are having troubles and Flash Player 10 was released today

    another great job sony

  • just downloaded it.

downloaded pretty fast. compared to other updates. thanks sony. now more TV ADVERTISEMENTS and ps3 will own.

  • WARNING!!!! NEW UPDATE DELETES ALL YOUR MUSIC, PHOTOS, VIDEO, MESSAGES ON THE HARD DRIVE. U KEEP PLAYLISTS.

AND FOR SOME REASON I HAVE 2 LIFE WITH PLAYSTATIONS. HMM :/

  • Just… WEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • @306

Guess you formated instead of updating XD

  • nope. updated like i always do.

    -system update
    -accept all that bull
    -leave it downloading
    -change the channel.
    -watch tv.
    -go back. and its done.

restarted the ps3. flash works fine. zoom in LWP. etc… just all my files.. gone. OWNED. but for some reason i still only have 22gb left out of 60 [55] :/ double owned.

  • no problems here.. flash is working on most sites..

  • I have a question regarding the new PS3 power saving features.

If I have demos downloading from the PSN & I have it set to shut off the PS3 after 1 hour of inactivity then go to bed… will it shut down in 1 hour, or will it shut down an hour after everything has finished downloading.

If it doesn’t wait for things to finish, a wonderful feature to add next firmware would be “Shut down (specified time) after finished downloading.”.

Now all I need is some darned beta invites. I’ve been left out in the cold even as a GAP & PSU member. :(

Oh yeah… and an update as to what’s going on with Home!!!

  • I forgot to mention that I had no issues whatsoever with missing files after the update. Everything went fast & flawlessly.

  • Just found two problems.

Videos are all now displaying on 60Hz (even if I change to 50Hz in the video setteings)

PS3 craches if you leave the browser while viewing a movie. (Happened to me in gametrailers when watching a maximized SD movie.)

If someone at Sony reades this please let me know.

  • What? Only flash 9? What about flash 10???!!1
Come on sony, if you had released this yesterday, you would’ve been cutting edge. But now you continue a trend of supplying us with obsolete technology. lol.

In all seriousness, there are a few things that I would like to see make it into ps3 firmware:
    1) HDMI-CEC aka Bravia Synch
    2) Access to the same content available through the Bravia Internet Video Link
(not because it’s necessary, but because it’s entirely possible and would make a lot of people happy, especially those without bravia hdtvs or those unwilling to spend an extra 300 dollars on a device that does practically the same things as competing 100 dollar devices)
    3) Decent RSS support. I envision this as the next level of the information board, but with added support for adding our own RSS feeds and support for video and audio content: where the info board would automatically download new content in the background from a subscribed podcast when it becomes available.

Good job on the psp firmware. On-psp store was one of my most wanted.

  • Holy crap; I can watch this video on the Triple now! Flash Player 9 FTW!!!

  • Let me rephrase one of the problems I mentioned.

Before the videos on PS3 that were original coded in 60Hz (NTSC) were converted to the PAL signal “on the fly”, now that isn’t happening as far as I can understand, so all PAL users with older TV’s will be watching B&W movies that were coded in NTSC or PAL60.

Please someone else with a PAL TV check a few divX movie’s to see if they encounter this problem.

  • I love to play the Drums/Guitar and sing on Rockband. Do you know if this will be compatible with RB2/GH4? I would buy it if it was. Would love for Sony to confirm this. Thanks!

  • No problem with the update. Everything worked as promised. Thank you SCE!

  • my display is screwed up. when playing content on my hdd it looks like it is trying to play it as a blu-ray format. i dont have a high def television so this is a bit of an issue. anyone else got this problem?

  • Hey Sony,
i am a very proud of my psp, but some important features are missing:

    please give us:
    – FLASH9 SUPPORT FOR the PSP
    – A bigger CACHE for the PSP-Browser. 2MB are not enough for the most websites! We need minimum 50MB. The memory stick of the PSP could be use for the cache!!! The cache should be flexible!

  • why is this flash 9 only for sony blog..u tricked us the rest of the web says we still need a flash update..i would love to us this flash on the go with my psp for other web site…stop the misleading me sony love the fan for life.

  • Hi,

I like the new firmware for the fact that I can see when my friends were last signed in, plus flash9 support is good. So i want to thank you for that.

What i don’t like however is the way that video is displayed now.
All videos that are not encoded with 25 frames per second are displayed in 60hz mode.
For me this means that the quality is considerably less, seeing as even HD content is downscaled to 480 horizontal lines instead of the 576 that my Philps 100HZ widescreen crt is capable of. Is there an option to change this? Or can you please fix it?

It would be much better to have a “force 50hz video output”-option in the menu.
(Or an option to force output of 50hz on games like MGS4, the pal version runs slower in 60hz)

    Greetings from Holland,

    Elias.

  • Anyone having trouble with their flash? I can’t get Gamrtrailers to work with it or this site. People say it works fine, but I can’t seem to tell… Also, why did they take the option to xmb navigate while watching videos? I think it was probably to free up useless ram usages, myself. Which is a good call. I wish they would’ve had 1gb of ram in the ps3; all problems solved.

  • A litle problem with flash games. The keyboard is not support. The free games load. But you can only move up down left and right. But other buttons in keyboard not work!!.

And why keyboard not support zoom?

PD:gametrairles works fine for me.But full screen not work(in all sites).

  • @Libregkd 1the first part of your post is true but I post that hours ago so please don’t take any credit for that.
2 I think you are senile if you think no one care about console sale or product mass you are missing the point , people that buy or sell system and games do and if you libregkd buy or sell you should to.
3 FF is a good game but it not halo, gear of war, mgs, or even GTA sorry, men lie, woman lie but number don’t check the number. You don’t have to believe me just look at the last E3 look at MS and sony press meeting they both talk about what halo, mgs, gta,gt made but nothing on FF except MS at the end for 50 second. Rpg rule japan and it draw there hardcore gamer but you need more type of gamers beside your hardcore gamers to say FF is a system seller. If you name the top five biggest games on all system FF won’t make THE LIST.
4 I do not agree with FeaturePreacher but he has the right to post what he believe as do you but ended your post with shut up only prove to me that kids shouldn’t get into grown up business so go a post your come back line but whatever insults you come up with it wont overcome the fact or the number.

  • Awesome, now that memory prices are low. Also please improve the speed of in-game XMB.

  • Whoop its up! BOTH OF THEM!

  • the new firmware is live! go get it now!

  • Why are in-game screenshots on a game by game basis and not a system wide feature? The 360 can’t even do this, so there shouldn’t be any reason not to make this a system wide system except for the reason I suspect. I suspect the actual reason for this is the lack of available memory to do this with the in-game xmb. So Eric and the other firmware developers should try experimenting with either changing the in-game xmb so it works in a different and more memory efficient manner than the normal xmb or they should remove categories that are never going to be used while playing a game such as the video category and psn category. Hopefully this will allow system wide use of in-game screenshots and more importantly in-game access to music.

  • Long over due, as a mac user! I like to use my Psp while i’m at work. Cute tie tongue Grace.

  • Anyone able to get hulu.com to work?

  • PlayStation Store downloads are good… i couldn’t find any movies for download. Also why don’t you guys allow the background download feature so that i can game/play music/other things on my psp till it completes the download ??????

  • Also a resume downloads feature for the contents

  • wow i love what you guys did to the store… keep up the good work on improving the PS3 and psp experience

  • Love the PSP update. But I would love to see my PSN friends list on the PSP as well. Would that be possible?

  • WTF the flash is not working , I can’t watch the demo and I can’t watch IGN why? Grace why?

  • The PSP Store on the PSP is amazing. Very fast too I might add. I went ahead and downloaded a bunch of trailers, themes, wallpapers and demos that I might not have tried were it not for the store being on the PSP itself. I’m amazed by the work of the Sony engineers.

  • hey i just download it, but why isn’t their a video download on the psp store… i mostly rent movie on my psp, while i’m at work… i do hope there will be a movie section on there soon

  • Is there any reason why all the movies and TV shows have been removed from the store? Or will they be put back at a later date?
Also, has access to the store via PC been removed permanently, or is that just part of the ongoing upgrade process?
Other than that, great upgrade, great store.

  • It was a long time coming… but I’m delighted it’s coming soon.

PSP has really needed this, theres nothing more convenient than just having games on you memory stick. Carrying a bunch of discs or carts just isn’t that “portable”.

Look forward to downloading some games.

  • Perfect update ;) Thanks SONY ;)

  • Please bring back scrolling through the xmb while viewing video.

I do not like how it pauses…..

  • Thanks for the great updates. Flash update WooHoo!

A feature I would love to have is the ability to have a place to have my friends real names. My friends list is pretty long and I sometimes forget who is who. I would think this would not be too difficult a thing to add. I know it would help me out a great deal.

  • I’m trying to update with the PSP firmware. I keep getting “Update cannot be started. The data is corrupted (SGT90000001)”

    Any help with this? Thanks.

  • @ 344 Check your memory card, it may be full or close to full.

  • LOL!!! =( What on earth is going on? There are no Trophies in Socom. I’m shocked and amazed. The crazy thing is, Dead Space is a full game with Trophy support. Socom is just an online title.

  • Please bring back scrolling through the xmb while viewing video.

It was there since the beginning, and I liked being able to respond to messages while my video was still playing….

    Sony, what do you say???

  • Just downloaded it, what a great update. The PSP store is great, seamless operation. I love it. Great update for both systems!!! Keep it coming sony we love what you do.

  • The store on PSP seems tight and account login went perfect though a few pictures didn’t load. Excellent overall experience so far. Well done Grace.

  • Great update. Keep it up.
