Hi, everyone, I wanted to give you a heads up about an upcoming PS3 firmware update (v2.52). This minor update is coming soon and includes the following:
- The playback quality of some PS3 format software has been improved.
- A text entry issue that occurs when using the on-screen keyboard, USB keyboard or Bluetooth keyboard with some PS3 format software has been addressed.
By the way, even though it says the playback of SOME PS3 games is being updated, i doubt game specific, like LBP or Fallout 3, will be impacted. I thing the updates that the devs put out will fix those issues. Its been driving me INSANE with Fallout… freezing when someone logs in/out, studdering framerates, and even 1 case of a dog turning into a giant black square pixel!
Why is there updates every other freaking hour that take forever. I mean its like… It makes me like Xbox 360 more sometimes. I never had to deal with cr@p like that on the Xbox.

i agree with most you post but custom soundtracks this is not a sony problem but a game developer problem there are some games that have custom soundtracks play like warwawk . when you and the other people who want this in there games , stop buying the games that wont allow you to play your custom soundtracks they will begin to inclue this ,if you and others keep buying games without it they will see no need to inclue them into there games. if you want this you and others need to play as the answer and not the problem stop buying the games . you need to post more i like most of your comment .
when we going to be able to send one message to mult friends with out haveing to type out individual messages for everyone. we should be able to select all who we want the message to go to and just send one message and they all get it not have to type out ten individal messages that say the same thing. lets get this in an update.
Since the new update, Rock Band 2 crashes one time after another.

I hope that RB2 problem is few and far between. Whenever people “say X is wrong with X” i usually don’t encounter those problems. RB2, on the ther hand, i play a LOT of, and would HATE if it crashed on me. Probably go crazy n smash the drums…

its the shorter cel phone style keypad instead of the full keyboard style now
kind of annoying now that i have to do the old school hit 1 button 3 times for the letter i want thing to type now
go back to the original keyboard but fix the issue if there ever was one please

Are you talking [DELETED] Not meaning the above message… i have had so many problems with the Ps3 that it makes me want to take up knitting for a relaxation project. each update just gets worse, and there is no control over it.

A little help, ever since 2.52, my internet browser has been freezing at random times. The whole system just locks up and I can’t do a think. I have to force restart it. :(
Is Sony aware of this?

As far as I know you should be able to change your keyboard style by clicking on a button that is below the Backspace button it looks like a 3X3 square. I believe it should be available in R2 while typing.
Why cant the photo capture feature just be added to the xmb. Heres how: When you hold down the home button on your ps3 it brings up the quit game, turn off ps3, etc. There should be a option “ENABLE CAMERA” once enabled you should be able to tap the home button to take a picture. Obviously this will take away the in game xmb feature, BUT ONLY WHILE THE CAMERA IS ENABLED! So dont get your panties in a bunch. When your done snapping away, hold down the home button again hit “DISABLE CAMERA” and your back to your normal setup and can use in game xmb again. The reason i say do it this way is because it never interfers with any of the controls in a game there for it should be no problem and now its the ps3 snapping pictures, not some in game feature. I just dont see why this wouldnt work.
oh yea, my controller disconnected for no reason. I just pressed the home button and it came back but still has anyone else noticed this?

That and the controller sometimes while in a movie, displays the information “triangle” for no reason. This happens a lot too…not just once in a blu :) moon…

Okay, so what about an update that allows music playback during ANY game, like the 360? Also, kinda weird, umm…how come WMA tracks won’t play during a game? Only AAC tracks can. In other words, songs that I transfered from my external HDD onto the PS3 HDD can’t play even though they were ripped form actual CDs, and only songs that I ripped onto the PS3s HDD from the actual PS3 itself will play. I have over 3,000 songs on my PS3s HDD and I can only play around 100(one hundred) because those are the only songs ripped from CDs straight-up with my PS3. I don’t have a lot of those CDs anymore and those that I do, I don’t want to have to deleat and rip again straight up with my PS3, especially since I don’t want to have to look for most of the CDs. Any suggestions?!
To clarify my last comment, I can play the WMA tracks just fine when I’m browsing the net or doing anything else because I did enable WMA playback. My problem, just to make sure I get it across, is lack of song playback during gameplay.
This update breaks the newly added feature from 2.51 in the Display menu (50Hz auto video changer) … When introduced it worked perfectly switching video signals for PAL users between both 50Hz and 60Hz display (timing..) .. this is now totally broken and does not work.
I was hoping that Resume Play for BD would be fixed…

mine froze twice not too long after i updated. it was crazy, once during a game, and once on the xmb. updates are stressful… if anything happens on my end because of an update, 150$ for a fix is just not cool.
The “leave it up to individual developers” approach to in-game music is a flawed and disappointing band-aid rather than a legitimate solution to a feature requested by a TON of PS3 owners.
Sony, you really need to rethink this approach. And if it’s a limitation of the hardware that prevents this feature, then have the decency to just let us know.
I’d rather believe that the hardward isn’t capable of doing it than believe that your development staff isn’t capable (or willing) to do it.
Sony must understand the PS3 powerfull 20gigaflops processor is not made for cooking spaghettis à la bolognaise !
Sony have to recruit qualified programmers who know witch device are inside the black box e x a c t l y …
When Sony come with 2.52 KEYBOARD UPDATE when :
– wifi is slow,
– media streaming jerk and freeze with some internet losting connection,
– web browser freeze and crash,
– we have to wait when copying file,
– we cant install any linux distrib with wpa2 security because hypervisor since 2.50,
This is not only some lack of serious, its especially a lack of respect for the consumers.

Now here is an info request, which I am not sure the possibility or technicality, but here it goes: Would it be possible to develop and include a diagnostic tool which either monitors and/or detects problems with internal hardware on the PS3? I ask this because “I THINK” there is an internal problem (on my PS3) with hardware that is crippling the system from reading any disks (games and BD’s). I have read forum after forum, and everyone seems to say that the ‘eye’ that reads the disk most likely is dead – BUT before i go spending money to send it out to SONY (was an xmas gift paid for in cash – no receipt), I would prefer to be able to know why my PS3 is now a very heavy paperweight. I have conducted all of the backup, restore, etc. etc. with no success. I have enjoyed my PS3 since last xmas, and only wish I could continue without having to use my ‘economy/job loss emergency fund savings’ to bring my PS3 back. So all in all, is adding an application that can do system hardware diagnostics internally too much to ask or too unrealistic?
What happened to the option to sign out of PSN when hitting triangle on your name?
I’d love to see the option come back since it’s been there for as long as I can remember and is a really nice option to have.

Unfortunately they changed it. It is now located on “Account Management” and hit the triangle and select log out.
What I would really like too see is:
1)
Better codec support. MKV is badly needed, and there are too many DivX and XVid films that won’t play on the PS3.
2)
Youtube support. It sucks that I have to take my friends to the PC when I have found something funny. Flash support in general would greatly improve the PS3.
3)
Better subtitle support. You need to start supporting formats like srt and such. The kind of subtitles you use right now hardly exist in reality.
I know that Sony is a stern opponent of piracy, but that does not validate being afraid of every technology that pirates use. Remember that they are often customers as well, and more expressing their customer needs than anything else when choosing technologies.

PS3 DOES support youtube. I use it ALL THE TIME! I’ve seen countless videos on youtube using my PS3.
Ok I understand that SCEA did a update, but there are some issues that I emailed that is still occurring. Its some type of glitch in the message box when typing using single Tap. When the word is highlighted in green and you push R1 to accept the word it won’t move over and if you push triangle to space over it does some animation and freeze the system up.. Note that I done my homework its not my system it started during the 2.50v update. I got 20 people to try it and the same thing happens.. Where’s the evidence MS has a patent for in-game screenshots especially since the 360 can’t do this? Listening to music while playing a game at the same time is possible for only some games. They still haven’t made it a system wide feature since the in-game xmb still uses too much memory and not because of some patent.

No I have to say something i want an answer SONY when will you realize that’s all we won’t tell us now regardless why do devs have to include it and does MS really have that patent? We just want an honest answer and personally I think not adding 512MB of RAM was a mistake but at least there should be an easy way to upgrade that like the HDD but I’m full of ideas and it not useless or loads of garbage asking for features that most don’t care about but instead lets get all issues fixed before moving on to adding features please.

About jerking and buffering on streaming media files with tversity or orb, wmp11 and whatever you want, I think it’s a serious PS3 buffering problem, there is only a poor 256MB memory inside the playstation 3 box… (grandfathers 1990’s computer windows 3.1 have more …!!!)
Between my wirelesses laptop and my computer I upload a complete 700MB movie in 2 minutes in streaming…In fact, that’s mean exactly 2600KB/s thats PS3 can NEVER handle with 256MB memory only…
Unfortunately PS3 don’t use his hard drive for buffering correctly too…
THIS IS A PROBLEM.
Sony programmers have to do with the splendid cell processor inside for optimizing transfers between components inside the box BEFORE to made a gigantic firmware for nothing…

Windows 3.1 more than likely has 2mb of ram, not 256. 256mb sounds high even for the computer’s HDD. and to quote the website:
256MB XDR Main RAM
256MB GDDR3 VRAM
that’s 256 XDR, which isn’t about quantity, it’s sheer speed. 256 of this can handle way more information than your standard 1990’s ram.
I play LBP and the keyboard lag has not been fixed.

Today, our cheapest Black Box have :
– 80Gg HD(X 20 old 1990’s hard drive)
– 1 Tera flops CPU (X 1000 old 1990’s CPU)…
– And… a very cheapest 256MB…
