PlayStation.com Continues to Evolve

256 0

Early next week, we’ll be integrating additional community features into PlayStation.com. We are excited to roll-out the first phase, which includes the ability to sign-in to PlayStation.com and, soon after, PlayStation.Blog with your PlayStation Network ID. Of course, your PlayStation Network ID gets you access to all the good things on the PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP, including games, movies and TV shows on the PlayStation Store, online gaming, and, soon to come for PS3, PlayStation Home.

Game Detail Page

In addition, we are making enhancements to the gamer profile features. Your profile will include your PSN online ID, your avatar, and a short “about me” section. You’ll also be able to display your friends list and, on the game detail pages, you’ll be able to include ratings and reviews for all of your favorite games. These features were created so that you can make new friends, learn new tricks and tips, talk trash, offer advice, console the defeated, praise the winners, and more.

If you have an Underground account on PlayStation.com and haven’t already merged it with your PlayStation Network ID, click here to do so. If you don’t have an Underground account but would like to create a PlayStation Network account to participate in the new features on PlayStation.com, click here.

We decided to dissolve the PlayStation Underground program in order to provide more PlayStation fans with a glimpse into the PlayStation Network world via the web. We hope you enjoy this next step in the evolution of PlayStation.com.

Stay tuned; before this year is over we’ll have more enhancements for your gamer profile.

  • good work keep it up sony

  • If GAP gets dissolved, it won’t be a big deal. It is a great place to meet friends, but we are hardly a Gamer ADVISORY Panel. I know tons of inactive Underground members who got Home and Killzone beta invites, yet as an active GAP member I got nothing!

  • Cool!!! When is Home coming out?

  • That is very nice merging everything like that!

    Good Work.

I just hope that everyone that has a PlayStation could see that right now!

  • Does that include GAP too in the dissolve as we use our Underground logins for that, or since we are merging that will it still be available as in the pictures?

  • I feel like I’m getting spoiled!! Well done.

  • Seems like my question was already asked, but I would still like to know too. Thanks Sony, the site looks great!

  • hmmm. nice but i wish that these “gamer profiles” we be like this on the actually PS3. i would like to share my friends list, and game reviews with others… etc.

  • “…soon to come for PS3, PlayStation Home.”

    thanks for mentioning that !

  • you guys are awesome!!! Are there any plans to add trophies to the psp system?

  • OMG sooo awesome. I can’t wait, yes! Hurry up, I am dying to see. And if you guys need a beta tester pls contact me! Wow this is awesome news.

  • this is pretty cool but i didnt understand one thing: are they getting rid of playstation underground?

  • Great Job!!!
    Where’s Home?
I am about to go to my buddies to have NXE rubbed in my face.
    Netflix style streaming
    nfl.com/live flash

  • cant wait to see what they do with all this! new features are always welcome!

  • To Susan Panico or anyone from the blog staff:
I really hope I get a red answer to this:

I don´t know what your plans are for Home, how you will be advertising it (if at all), or you are just going to get it out one day by surprise.

I find these “and soon to come on the playstation 3, home” very frustrating as a consumer and a fan. I don´t understand how hard it is for you guys at Sony to give something concrete. People who subscribed to Qore (not me) are wondering all over the internet when are they going to get the beta passes that were promised in chapter 6. Why are you not saying anything at all about Home?, this absolute silence is creating more skepticism than hype. This blog was created for you to communicate with the fans, and fans to communicate with you. Is the In-game XMB all over again with this Home thing. You should really come on front, and say what the plans are for Qore subscribers, for the remaining of the closed beta, and a release, or at least the plans on the open beta. Thanks

  • Please tell me this is also coming to eu.playstation.com too….

  • I’m going to miss PSU, but if the forums and blog get connected to the PSN thats great.

  • Those who want to send message online, let me just say that other console will NOT allow it if you aren’t a paying member of their service, that’s why I do NOT expect SCEA to do it for free (if we were paying, then that’s another story). I know that for a fact.

As for G.A.P., my personal opinion is while I love being a member, but if it won’t be used as much anymore, than don’t worry about keeping it. I just really want PSN-IDs and such to be very well integrated, where all I need to use is my PSN-ID. I wouldn’t mind if the forums completely changed, since I think it would be great to start all over, but that’s just me.

    Regardless, I’m very happy.

  • “We decided to dissolve the PlayStation Underground program in order to provide more PlayStation fans with a glimpse into the PlayStation Network world via the web. We hope you enjoy this next step in the evolution of PlayStation.com.”

Does that mean an end to the playstation.com forums? Please, say it doesn’t. :(

  • Sounds pretty sweet. What about GAP though? I thought that was kind of a subsection of Underground so will that stay as is or become more open as well?

I do like the dissolution of Underground though. In the 90’s it was kind of an ‘awesome’ term but nowadays is so…old sounding, but maybe that’s just me. Will there be a new name for this or is it simply going to be the Playstation Network…because honestly you can do better than that.

  • @DARK_JAK_911
I’m 99% sure that that just means we’ll only have our PSNetwork names on the left instead of our normal usernames. I do however find the lack of a forum button disturbing, but hopefully it’s under the PSNetwork tab!

  • I LOVE YOU SONY. :D You guys will recover slowly but surely. ;)

  • This is awesome! I can’t wait for home either. November and December are always good times for Playstation owners. I hope you do everything right and quick!

  • @xplosneer
I hope it’s just that. Remember what they did to the Nintendo forums? Those were completely removed from their site to where they were just tech support boards. I’m sure nobody on the PSU forums would want that to happen. It would be disappointing thousands of active forum members, all for just a simple redesign. I don’t even see a forum tab at the top of the previewed page. It just makes my stomach sink.

  • Sweet you guys are making some very nice enhancements to the websites. Good job guys.

  • Now the question is, how many years will it take before Sony is able to uniform the US website, the EU website and the Asian sites?

It needs a coherent design and layout, the content of the site adjusting just simply by the region of your login account.

  • good time to own a ps3 i guess!

  • That’s awesome! But I rated down because you mentioned Home. We know it will be delayed :( Don’t try to get our hopes up again, it’s mean

  • Please tell us more about PlayStation Home.

Is it really coming this year; even though this year is almost over?

    Please tell us!

  • darn it how do i get my pic back?

  • I want to be able to use my Home avatar as my PSN avatar…and see it on the web too.

  • Also can you guys please add more PSN Avatars?

    We really need more!

  • I’ve been looking forward to this and cant wait to see it.

I think you guys need to bring PlayStation.com Playstation.blog PlayStation Store and your game’s independent sites together also
    MyResistance.net
    LittleBigWorkshop.com
    Killzone.com
    SOCOM.com
    etc.

I would do it through a top horizontal tabbed setup kind of like what your going for. Make the home page a PSN page where you see your friend-list and see your friends activity, basically Facebook. Then have the news tab be this blog. Have the store also cover as your media page. And then have a Games tab that shows the sites your signed up for but also has a browse option. I’d also let people pull that independent game site out of the tab so they can have it as it’s own tab (think Facebook’s new setup and iGoogles ability to make new pages).

  • Fix it so I can link the PSN id I want to. I can’t even link MeltTech. Says it’s linked to a different account. Tried to recreate said account using my other email that’s linked to the PSN account and it says PSN id is linked to another account.

    thanks.

  • This redesign is really shaping up to be quite nice. I like what is being implemented.

  • I like the “and soon Playstation Home.” I still have hopes you guys will pull it off but you know…almost end of the year. Sounds good so far though.

  • wow, this is cool. A nice PS3 birthday present indeed.

  • Nice! Can’t wait! Keep it up! :)

  • freakin sweet

  • @DARK_JACK

I agree, that would be bad. I like the forums myself, so yeah, I wouldn’t like them to go away, especially with all the members that are active.

@ManaKnight, I agree. GAP hasn’t been used at all lately, haven’t gotten a single update in months and they even took off the headline thing in the G.A.P. area. Oh well… It was a good area for discussion however. G.A.P.-only forum area?! I don’t know…

  • (applaud) bravo

  • Are we ever going to be able to get a gamertag-like feature going? :]

  • Looks awesome! Three questions:

    1) will the Trophy system be linked to the web-based PSN ID?
    2) will this work on the PS3’s web browser?
    3) will this work on the PSP’s web browser?

  • wooo! sounds great! can’t wait to try it out! :D

  • Jawesome!
Susan, random question – but do you have schizophrenia (sp?) – there is a famous Susan Panico with this disorder.

    Anyway, sweet update.

  • About time! :) I was getting sick of having a different sign-in ID and password for PSN, PSB and PSU.

This move will greatly improve the PlayStation Network as a whole. Thank you!

  • As a university student who leaves his PS3 at home, it would be nice if I could add friends to my PSN List through my PC. A lot of people who I get to add me will later delete me or forget to add (*sighs*) if I don’t accept within a few days and remind them. This would help remove some of the hassle when I do go home every few weekends ^_^

  • OMGG IM SOO MAD WHY COULDNT PLAYSTATION HOME COME OUT TODAY, I WAS LOOKING TOWARDS IT ND TODAY IT CAME OUT FOR XBOX360 THIS IS SOO BOOTLEGGED but even though i still love ps3 BUT STILL IM SOO MAD CMON SONY PLEASE POST IT UP ALREADYYY I SWEARRRR ILL GOO CRAZYYYYYY

  • This is what I love about you guys.

You don’t just focus on one thing. You guys focus on a little of everything. This year we’ve gotten great new games, great new features, great new products, and pretty much, just all around great stuff! Good work, guys!
