Ask the Developer: Prince of Persia

113 0

Hi all, my name is Ben Mattes and I’m the producer for Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia video game. We’re just about a week from the launch of Prince of Persia and all of us on the team are anxiously awaiting player feedback, monitoring all of the message boards and blogs we know of – we stay on top of the thoughts and questions going through the minds of the fans.

To that end we wanted to extend a special invitation to all of you readers here at the PlayStation.Blog. We know there might be things about the game you are interested in knowing more about or having explained in more detail, and we’re going to give you the chance to have those questions answered direct from the development team.

Any subject is open for discussion but of course we may not have the time to answer them all. Questions about Elika? The art style? Lessons learned during production? What sort of food we ate in the closing weeks on the project? Fire away in the comments below, and we’ll answer as many as we can in a follow-up post next week.

And, of course, pick up your copy of Prince of Persia on launch day and let us know your first and lasting impressions. There is nothing more rewarding or important for a developer then hearing what the players think.

  • Diggin the way this is turning out…love the art style so far!!!!

  • 1- Is there going to be a demo of the game?

2- Will there be different difficulty levels?

3- What is/are the rewards for collecting light seeds (in-game rewards, not talking about trophies)?

  • I WOULD have had wuestions, but seeing as you’re not answering promptly to others, I won’t bother.

  • Hi Ben,
Thanks for the interest! Nowadays, when a game I want goes multiplatform, what makes my purchase decision final is if the game is as good or even better on the PS3. Most importantly, will it be 1080p like the 360 and will it have Trophies. Burnout Paradise is a perfect example of how the PS3 version is as good and better too. 1080p for me is a must, otherwise I feel I got skimped, you feel me?

  • Come on Ubisoft!

    I’m waiting for an answer!

Why is there DLC when there is a huge storage capacity on Blu-Ray discs?

DLC that is announced before the game is even out is content that is *deliberately* being held back from the game.

    YOU ARE RIPPING US OFF.

I would like to see you try and justify what you’re doing – because you can’t.

And here’s betting you probably won’t even respond to this either. Cowards.

  • Why a different direction?
Why not same ol’ same ol’?

Thanks! I’ll pick it up soon! :D

  • Hey, I can’t wait for this game. Here’s my questions:

Does the game autosave (or how does it save)?

Can you create multiple save files?

Do you have to stick to one save file for trophies (I remember Uncharted having it so you had to stick with one save file I think to protect from downloading saves or something)?

The only reason I’m asking is because I like to sometimes save at certain points to go back and play a boss or show a friend a part of a game. Anyway, great work on the game and I’ll be getting the day it comes out with the LE upgrade, can’t wait.

  • Hey look at that!

Ubisoft won’t respond when you ask them a question about their immoral business practices!

    Imagine that!

  • There was a version of prince of persia where the prince could handle 2 weapons at once. Will the prince be able to mimic that skill in this game?

  • How do I link my PSN Account with my Ubisoft.com account to unlock Altair?

  • My question is: What are you waiting for to reply? The folks at CAPCOM always reply within the first 15 minutes to article has been published. It’s been a week now..

  • I’ve been a PoP fan since playing it on my Atari 800 back in the 80’s! I’ve preordered this new chapter of the saga.

    1) Can you tell us how/if the original creator Jordan Mechner was involved with this incarnation of PoP? Has he seen or played a final build and commented upon it in any way? I’d like to know his satisfaction with how the PoP series has evolved.

    2) Can you tell us how the music soundtrack collaboration works between the two composers? How did you pick them, how did you instruct them, when did you start to incorporate music into the game builds and how did it adjust game play as well as how did you give feedback to help the compositions change?

    3) What is the reason why Ubisoft wants our logins to match our PSN logins? I understand it could enable some skins in PoP, but what’s benefit to Ubisoft and are their scenarios on how might this be used for the future?

    Thanks.

To most everyone else: there are a lot of very basic questions about game play that should be answered by most preview articles on many web sites and the game web site itself. e.g.: IGN, 1Up, etc.

  • Y’know, I’ve been looking forward to this game for a long time now; I preordered it, and I look forward to picking it up on Friday. I’ve often said that Ubisoft is one of the best developers out there: usually whatever they touch turns to gold, as far as mainstream franchises go (Warrior Within notwithstanding).

So… umm… why haven’t we seen a single response from this thread? I’m going to be honest, I was expecting replies within the first few posts, as with most developer-started threads, and there are some legitimate questions on the past three pages, especially post 113. (I could ask a question, but any I’ve thought of, and some I hadn’t, have already been asked)

Mr. Mattes, it’s been a week… what gives?
