Get Your Own PlayStation Credit Card

195 0

You may have seen the mailers, and it’s true. We’ve introduced our very own PlayStation credit card to offer fans a new way to show off their PlayStation pride and earn reward points towards the purchase of PlayStation and SONY products.

PlayStation Card

We’ve even sweetened the pot with a special introductory offer. Starting today until December 31, 2008, you could save $150 on the purchase of a PLAYSTATION 3 this holiday. There are a couple ways to do this. You can go to to www.sony.com/newpscard to get instant approval for your card, and an immediate $150 credit when you purchase a PS3 directly through the website.

Or you can go www.sony.com/getpscard to apply for the card and upon receipt of the card, use it at any authorized PlayStation retailer to purchase a PS3. The $150 credit will show up on your billing statement.

The holidays just got merrier. Happy shopping.

I wouldn’t worry too much, everything I’ve read indicates that you just have to get the card by 12/31. As long as you’re approved by that date, you can wait until the end of march to actually buy the ps3.

  • what are the chances that i get approved for the card in the first place? do they only take ultra good credit scores? if there is anyone out there who already got approved, what was yours? also, i can just buy it, pay it off, and let it sit for eternity?

  • Follow 147’s instructions carefully to redeem playstation 3 PS3 $150 discount immediately. (This means you dont need to wait the 8 weeks for sony to credit your card) The trickiest part was going back to the original PS# flyer ad to find the “Redeem Button” after qualifying for the card instantly. I swear you need a friggin phd to redeem this offer.

  • Oh Ya…. Thank you Mthmdr (post #147) You helped me out, I just wonder how long it took you to figure this out!

  • It took a while – as I said, the first time I tried to redeem there was no discount. And the points system threw me off too (nowhere in the offer does it mention you are using “points” to buy the thing). I thought I’d write up what I did since a cursory google search didn’t turn up any results from anyone else actually doing the offer this way. One thing that makes me (just a little) nervous is that there is no tracking of how far along my order is. I figure I’ll just wait the two weeks they say it could take, and then try to call if I’ve heard nothing. Now, I’m sure the offer is legit, I’m just not sure how quick they will be to send the system out. Though the receipt does say they will only charge the card when it’s shipped, so I guess that’s fine.

  • did anyone that applied for the card get a email or something back telling them if they have been approved or not?

  • any idea how long this will take to ship? i ordered one the day after thanksgiving and hopefully it arives in time for xmas…

  • so can i buy a ps3 bundle from costco and get the $150 discount? costco is a sony retailer.

also, does the $150 credit come after i paid off the whole ps3, or does it get deducted? i guess i have to go to the “redeem now” thing that someone explained in detail to get instant discount?

  • WOW my new PS3 will be $195.60 thanks to Playstation Visa card and Dell.com great deal!

    Goto http://www.techbargains.com/

    for hot deal on PS3!

  • @dfrisby

Where are you getting this info that it will takes 8 weeks to get the $150 credit back?

  • @160

From the amazon page (http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=pe_24010_10693820_fe_txt_2/?tag=slickdeals&ie=UTF8&docId=1000291371&plgroup=2) detailing the Sony card offer:

” $150 card credit will be posted to your Sony Card Statement within 8-12 weeks from receipt of the rebate form and proof of purchase. Offer available to new Sony Card accounts only and only one $150 card credit may be earned per Sony Card account. ”

This waiting period is why I went with the instant redemption, even though it costs $34 in shipping.

  • The rep at sonyrewards (877-718-7669) said that my ps3 was shipped out yesterday via USPS. Of course, he couldn’t give me a tracking # even though USPS has tracking for express mail. So $34 doesn’t even buy express shipping.

@159 what crack are you smoking? If you actually get your credit, I’ll be surprised.

  • @mthrndr
Thanks for the update, if anyone actually receives their PS3 from sony rewards; let us know.

Also any others let us know how long it takes to actually get your credit card from the day you first applied.

@159 I dont think you will get credit the offer is for PS3’s purchased at the MSRP $399, but there is some notes on that tech bargain page about two $100 discounts if you buy $1500 in sony style bs buy some date.

  • @158
If you wat the 3-6 weeks to get the actual card, then you can go to costco and buy it, if there on the list and ther should be. Then youll still need to wait 8 weeks for your credit to post on the card.

If you want instant credit and the PS3 quickly, follow the istructions by #147 above; it’s the shinizzle!

  • @mthrndr

They said it shipped yesterday; what day did you actually place the order?

PS Is it Mother and Doctor?

  • So I signed up on Friday. I got the card in the mail on Thursday and bought the PS3 now. I will be getting it in a week maybe.

  • I just received my sony playstation card.

  • Sony Playstation 3 80GB HDD Gaming Console $322.99 Free Ship, Dec. 2 6 PM

    http://www.techbargains.com/recentnews.cfm?recent=4

  • I placed the order on Sunday, nov. 30. So IF they are telling the truth (no way to know until it arrives since they’re using USPS for a $400 item), then their turnaround was pretty good.

PS. I do not think you will get the credit using the Techbargains Dell deal. That deal is good, but I think you only get the Sony card credit on purchases of MSRP $399. (If you buy Sony things over $299, you get 0% interest for a year).

  • I should say that I would NEVER use sonyrewards.com unless I was getting the immediate credit. the site is a mess, and the fact that they aren’t shipping via ups with tracking is just ridiculous. that said, the guy on the phone was very nice, if generally unhelpful.

  • @167

You have a couple options when you have the actual card. Just go to any BestBuy or GameStop there all $399 MSRP, then wait ~8 weeks for the credit to appear on the statement.

Or order from Amazon and you may not need to pay tax or shipping, but still you must wait for the credit to appear.

Or take you chances with this stackable offer from Dell and hope that Chase gives you the credit on the system you already got discounted (Final price $177) Sony Playstation 3 80GB HDD Gaming Console $322.99 Free Ship Dell Home has the Sony Playstation 3 80GB HDD Gaming Console for $322.99 after coupon code CTV2$2HX963145 (Exp 12/27) and stackable 5% off coupon code TP5NV0VMFJ9BCZ (Exp 12/10). Although I doubt this will work because the Offer ad on the credit card says System “purchased at MSRP $399 or $499

  • Update: I just got home and booyah! A box from Sony was waiting for me. So I’m psyched. In sum: I applied for the ps card and ordered the ps3 on Nov. 30; SonyRewards shipped it on Dec. 3, and it showed up today (dec. 5). That’s way faster than I was expecting.

  • I just place my order today by phone total $283, but sony staf sait not sure it will be dlivery before Xmas.

  • Well I signed up last week and today I got an email stating that if I didn’t receive my card already, it should be arriving shortly. Hoping it comes tomorrow so I can buy my PS3.

  • @mthrndr

Did You Ever get an email telling you that it was shipped? When I called about shipping they said I should get an email telling me when it was shipped out.

  • ALright so i just got instantly approved for the card and i tried to oreder my ps3. But every time i do it it wants a exeration date. I got the account number and the security number but no experation date. Is their something im missing?

  • @Matt23
When you get instant approval it gives u the exp code on the screen with ur acct # and sec code

  • I received an email from sony rewards saying SHIPPED on 12-5-08 from my original order placed on 12-1

  • I never got an official ‘shipped’ email. I actually called the customer service # and the guy told me it shipped. He thought I should have gotten an email, but I never did. Oh well, I got the ps3, and it’s friggin great.

  • yeah right… instant credit… order it today. I have excellant credit and was told I would receive their decision in 30 days by mail. No good… what a scam. This was needed by Christmas so eff you Sony. Now I’m off to bye a 360 instead so my kid will a nice Christmas.

    Bah humbug to you Sony!!

  • @dfrisby
dang i must have missed it. ill just call um up and see if i can get it.Alright cool thanks anyways bro

  • @180
Check to see what site you applied at. There are 2 links on the internet. One offer is for a credit card that takes up to 30 days for approval but you can buy PS3 anywhere, and the other link is for instant approval, but you must order PS3 from Sony Rewards.

  • Thanks for that how-to mthrndr. I didn’t even see how to do the redeem thing when I applied for the card on sonystyle.com. The sonystyle.com site never mentioned about using the redeem option in the link from this post. After applying at sonystyle.com and getting immediate approval I just went to the sonyrewards.com site and used your instructions and made the purchase that way. I find it strange that you apply at sonystyle and order at sonyrewards. I would have NEVER figured that out without your instructions.

  • There are multiple SEPARATE offers for the 150$ off for a new PS3. There is one for an instant 150$, where the purchase is valid only at sonystyle or sonyrewards.com. The other offer is for any valid sony retailer. The third is at amazons website. Note that the offers are not interchangeable.

I was not aware of this initially and applied online for the instant 150$. Of course to my dismay, it was not instant as I had to wait two weeks for my credit card to arrive in the mail. However I just made a purchase online at the sonyrewards website and received the 150$ off instantly. Shipping was extra 38$ for the 160GB bundle. Sonystyle.com has free shipping currently which I looked at, but unfortunately they charge tax, which comes out to more than the shipping. I will see how long shipping takes.

  • Update I applied and ordered from Sony rewards on 12-1 and recieved PS3 on 12-10 :)

    Its Awesome!

  • Mine Shipped Tuesday, so I requested a tracking number from customer service. They emailed me the UPS, yes UPS, tracking number.
The PS3 is right now sitting in my bedroom. Thanks for all the feedback. I was first thinking, this deal was too good to be true. I have Hooters Points card and have gotten plenty of Wings Free, and since I pay it off every month, I have never paid any interest.

  • I ordered mine at Dell.com

Is there anything elae I need to do for the $150 credit? Or will it just apear on my card in about 8 weeks?

  • I placed an order on 12/04/08 and it was shipped 12/12/08. I called costumer service and they told me that I will be getting it on Tuesday or Wednesday!

  • Woohoo. I just received my ps3. I ordered it on December 8th and received it today, December 16th. I was worried I would have to wait a couple of weeks, so I’m glad I have it now. I ordered it via the instant credit on the SonyRewards website.

  • So is Wal-Mart an authorized dealer?

  • Sony Authorized Dealers: http://direct.where2getit.com/sony/

What about the BONUS OFFER (buy 1 BD get another FREE)!?

Can anybody post the details of the e-mail that you received after ordering the PS3 from the sonyrewards.com offer?

I see it says in fine print:
    (3) To qualify for the Bonus Offer, you must be a new instantly approved PlayStation Card member, through this promotion only, and have purchased a PlayStation®3 systems at SonyRewards.com with your new PlayStation Card…

Can anybody who was NOT instantly approved confirm that they got the the Bonus Offer when they ordered from SonyRewards?

  • doesnt this mean you can pick up a ps3 for 250$ if u get this card?

  • I went the delayed gratification route and had the card mailed to me. I ended buying from Dell on 12/13 with a 20% coupon code so I only had to pay $320 (shipping was free). The PS3 arrived a few days later and just a few minutes ago I got the following email:

You now qualify to receive $150 rebate when you purchase your PLAYSTATION® 3 system (PS3) at an authorized Sony retailer with your new PlayStation Card.
To claim your $150 card credit:
    1. Register your new PlayStation Card
    2. Complete the Rebate Form, under Your Account
    — Rebate Name must include ‘PS-PS3 $150 Rebate’
    3. Submit Rebate Form online
    4. Print out and mail the completed Rebate Form with copy of your PS3 sales receipt to the address as indicated within 60 days from date of purchase
Your PlayStation Card account will be credited $150 within 8-12 weeks of receiving the Rebate Form and copy of the sales receipt.

I will mail in my rebate form in the morning and will post again if/when I get my $150 rebate.

  • I also took the slow route and had the card mailed to me. But then I was an idiot and couldn’t resist using the card as soon as I activated it…at the closest store possible, my local GameStop.

I say idiot, because when I got home I searched the Sony Rewards site for “authorized Sony retailers” and GameStop is nowhere to be found. How is this possible? Walgreens is listed but not GameStop?

Should I return the PS3 to GameStop and pick another one up at Best Buy at the risk of screwing up the whole rebate/credit process? Help!

  • You might call Sony Rewards and ask. The first guy I talked to said I could buy from pretty much any store that sold new PS3’s. When I called back later another guy said it had to be an authorized dealer but didn’t know that Dell was one until I told him sony.com said they were.

If GameStop won’t get you the $150 back then return it if you can.
