The day we’ve been waiting for is here! And this is just the beginning…

Today we announced that PlayStation Home will enter into open beta, and will be available to everyone tomorrow. This milestone represents the very beginning of a long journey together, as PlayStation Home is an ever evolving, always changing, organic experience — full of new friends to meet, new events to enjoy, and new content to explore.

HomePlaza

If this will be your first time in PlayStation Home, be sure to talk to folks that have been around for a while, as they can show you the ropes. We also have a tutorial built in that will get you started with the controls, as well as help menus for you to reference in the Menu Pad. If you don’t have a USB keyboard or Bluetooth headset paired with your PlayStation 3, now is the time to do so – either option will allow you to easily talk and meet everyone.

One of the first things that you’ll notice that there are always things going on – parties, tournaments, events – some of which will be announced, and some of which that will just happen. You’ve got to be there to be a part of the party, so make sure to log in often to see what is going on.

If you want to know what’s coming up, check out the PlayStation Home forums, as we will be announcing events, tournaments, content updates, and feature revisions there, and by actively participating, you will be the first to know. You’ll also find that the PlayStation Home forums are alive with conversation from the PlayStation Home community discussing everything from feature requests to new clubs to join.

Many of you will have already seen the news regarding participation in PlayStation Home from your favorite game publishers and brands, including Activision, Disney, Eidos, Electronic Arts, Lucas Arts, THQ and UBISOFT as well as Sony Pictures, Paramount, Red Bull, Ligne Roset, and Diesel. As you can imagine, with this many partners already on board, PlayStation Home will grow rapidly, so you’ll need to check back often to see what is new. We’ll do our best to keep you informed on what is going on, but with so much happening in PlayStation Home, there will always be new surprises and secrets to discover. If we simply told you about everything, then it just wouldn’t be as fun for you to discover…

For those of you that have been in PlayStation Home for a while, I wanted to take a moment to discuss something very cool that you will notice right away. Once you get in, you’ll see that a redesigned Central Plaza is there to greet you – we’ve made major upgrades as a result of your community feedback. Thank you!

First of all, the Central Plaza now features a new 4 player mini-game called “Saucer Pop,” where each player launches a flying saucer from a take-off pad and flies around popping bubbles. These bubbles contain stars that have points attached, but watch out for the bubbles with bombs which will take you out if you’re not careful. You also must keep an eye on your saucer’s fuel gauge and collect bubbles with fuel cells or else you will quickly meet a watery fate. Success is all about the high scores, so good luck out there! I’ve been playing for a while now while we’ve been developing the game, so I’m getting pretty good…for those of you that know me, prepare to pop!

Secondly, you will also see some changes to Listen@Home. Now, you’ll be able to select from a number of songs and vote on your favorites. Which ever song gets the most votes plays for everyone, so be sure to get your voice heard and get down on the dance floor.

I could go on and on about all the cool new things you are going see and find in PlayStation Home, both on day one of open beta and beyond. The important thing to remember is that PlayStation Home will continue to evolve and change overtime, so be sure to get in often so you don’t miss out…

See you in PlayStation Home.

  • NICE!!!

Hey guys.. BRING IT!! I’m soo tired of all the negative talk on HOME and PSN..

I’m sure the service will be great..

  • FINALLY!!! I’m sure Home will be incredible to all.

  • Come on, launching Home on college exam week; Sony what were you thinking? Guess I’ll get to try it out over Christmas break.

  • @Camegan

XBOX 360 is already in the dust and PS3 is speeding on the road to success. Your not the only one who can tell the difference between good servers and bad servers.

    You are a retard.

  • >_> How about SCEE Home Square? Will we be getting Saucer Pop?

  • @ 205:

    Do your research.

  • Excellent news. I’ve been in the Beta too and loved it.

2 questions that I’m curious about.

    1. Is the rumour about Trophies being converted to Home Cash true? In other words will someone at Trophy Level 9 have more cash to spend on stuff then someone at Trophy Level 1? Please confirm.

    2. Do our PSN Trophies play ANY part at all in Home??

  • I haven’t been able to bowl on the bowling alley because the lanes are always occupied, I found that pretty disturbing as being something virtual how can there be scarcity?

    Hope that’s corrected tomorrow.

  • Oh Increase club sizes. Also create a posting system that allows all members to make additions. lastly maybe make a web portal as well or allow us to attach site to the clubs. Its the one feature I really like as I prefer to game with friends and this is great clan support.

  • Before you open it to public, you might want to fix the errors that I had. Either I got stuck at the Initializing page or I got disconnected from server. I’ve been trying to log into HOME for more than 5 times already.

  • ok maybe a stupid question but….does anyone know what time they will have the ps3 home open beta available for download in the usa? if its like midnight tonight ill just stay up download it and check it out all night any help would be great

  • I have one question:

Will the open beta be rolling out in the form of an update? I’m not sure how I will be able to access it when it is released.

    Thanks.

  • awesome,I’ve been in Beta for abit now..I can’t wait for the flood gates to open tomorrow…Welcome Everybody

  • i was wondering the same thing just figured i would search the psn for home if it didnt come in an update

  • the time people, the time, focus gamers

  • Will there be more free stuff to wear and decorate with?

  • i’m already in the closed beta, but yayyyy!!!, and it would be cooler if the headset would be included in a game everyone wants… like KILLZONE 2!!!

  • Wow amazing finally it is here.

  • cool, now the rest of my friends could join in on the fun. One question i have is that, what other games will be able to work with gamelaunching?

  • Live E3 conference-streaming in our personal Home space, make it happen Sony. ;)

  • This is exciting! I can’t wait for everyone else to join in. I’d like to see some weekly home info, tutorials and developer interviews on the PS Blog now please.

  • Awesome stuff you guys, you better add some more free clothing, facial hair styles and other stuff though, from what I’ve seen, we can’t have a beard?? What if we really do? That technically limits our avatar from being our digital representation. I don’t really want to stand in a lobby and meet 100+ people who look exactly like me, that’s no good. Throw in some more clothing options (PS branded stuff would be cool, I got one of the ‘FIRST!’ PSBlog T-shirts, code that baby up for me!) and facial hair options and we’ll be good to go!

  • So far Home has no appeal to me. What I want to see is the trophy room that was shown about 20 years ago. But best of luck with Home.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH JACK HAS ANY ATTENTION BEEN PAID TO THE MODERATION THING IM AFRAID THAT THE HARRASMENT HAS GOTTEN OUT OF HAND PLEASE SONY ADDRESS THIS

  • harrasment?

  • Yes. Yes. Very nice, but when will I be able to play guitar hero II with my guitar hero III guitar?

  • Awesome. :D I’m finally glad I’ll be able to get in Home.

  • PlayStation HOME fans are going to be very giddy come tomorrow.

In fact, I think they’re borderline ecstatic right now. :)

  • yes finally!this is why sony rocks

  • This is great news, i may just have to go out and buy a Sony HDTV now.

  • No mods!

As a female I have been in a lot of bad situations on Home. Most are adults that act childish but that’s how some people are in real life. I have met some really nice people on Home and i’ve also seen many in ugly situations. I do not agree with any mods in Home. Why?

I feel that if me or anyone else must stick up for ourselves and type a bit of anger to let the person know how we feel or to ask them to stop. I don’t want a mod or anyone thinking we are harrassing that person. They could always assume because they weren’t paying attention. I for one wouldn’t want to be IP banned off PSN or lose any of my accounts cause of a mix-up.

Solution, unless it’s already being done.

Sony should do what EA did with The Sims Online and record everything, except for voice of course. Not sure if voice can be recorded/logged. If someone gets reported with time, date, place. Sony then will know by checking the log of what was actually typed.

  • Mr. Buser,

I’ve been trying to get an answer to this question everywhere, but I can’t seem to get a straight answer. I’ve tried forums, and even calling Sony’s help line.

I am 25 years old, but I consistently use a sub-account I created from my main while playing my PS3. I got invited to the Closed Beta, but I was told “You are not old enough to access Home”. I made sure that my age-content filter was turned to off, but I was still unable to access Home.

Could you please confirm for me whether or not the Open Beta, or even the Full release of home will be available to those that play with sub-accounts? I would hate to have to revert to using my main account, losing the online ID I’ve come to associate with… not to mention the 9 levels of trophies I’ve accumulated.

    Thanks, :)

p.s I’m totally excited about Home tomorrow. I can’t wait to see it’s effect on the PSCommunity.

  • I co-sign everything that 232 said. Well, except for being female.

  • When is the 3D trophie room coming. If it is already out where is it located? BTW Great!

  • game launching for all available titles would be a nice bonus but seems a lil unrealistic at this point. it would’ve been nice if you guys patched a few games with every update you released for the closed beta client. if you followed that strategy all back catalog titles would be supported by tomorrow :). guess this is something you guys are looking into.

    peace,
    Lh

  • With this big announcement of Home coming, I’m wondering if this is gonna be another one of those 22 page blog items.

@232 I totally agree with you as well…but you know, the problem is, a lot of these childish adults live in our real world as well as the virtual one.

Nice to have Big Brother watching over us, but do we really want that ?

I think the feature Sony has installed of reporting someone by taking their id is a pretty good start.

  • I post many ideas in the Home Beta Tester Forums but i never imagine the Open Beta soo close! GREAT NEWS!..and i hope to see more & more content in this excelent plataform!

  • Finally.

  • I’ve been looking forward to this from the moment I picked up my PS3. Great work, excited to try, would like to know if it is a midnight release or not (anxiety is eating at me). Can’t wait to see Sony teach Microsoft a lesson on how to treat their loyal followers.

Hail Sony. WTG. Can’t wait to see all the features especially the enjoyment of music while we mingle.

  • This is great news!! The only thing is I dred all the reloading of all the spaces. And hopefully I don’t hsve to recreate my avatar and apartment again. For the millionth time…lol
Hopefully you added some long hair styles to the selection.
Any word on if the tropy room will finally be a reality? If not at least let me display them in my apartment.

  • I think its Pretty cool, however I do agree that it would be nice if there were more to do. Not enough lane to bowl on or pool tables. I have been using for a while now also. With more things to do that might clear up some room for bowling and pool too.

  • Oh and I am not sure if anyone has mentioned that you can use your Eye for communication in HOME as well.

Just a heads up:) See you all there!!

  • YES! I can finally feel @HOME with the open beta since now I can invite my other friends over to my Home Space. In the beta I only have a few friends (close friends), but whenever I’m logged in they are not, but now I can fool around with my bro and best friend too. Thank you guys, and this actually was quite a surprise for me since I didn’t knew of those other updates for the Central Plaza, and the updates for the stores! Can’t wait, I just can’t wait!

  • why not release it now?! screw the thursday update, I want it now!

  • home coming on my b-day yippeee

  • NO FIKIN WAY!!! i was just getting settled into the closed beta. i was beasting at bowling

  • Awesome job guys, I’m in the closed beta and have been looking forward to it being expanded to the masses and getting more content, can’t wait!!! :D

  • Excellent to hear sony…even though I got my closed beta invite two days ago :P.

  • I am really exited for this, I’ve been waiting forever for open beta. Will it be avalible in Canada? If so will the home open beta be avalible in a download in the Playstation Store or through a system update? Thanks! (Add my PSN-connornewman).

  • Damn. Opening it up on the same day that I have two finals? That’s just cruel. Well, hopefully I’ll get in on a bit of the action Thursday night, or at worst I’ll have free reign by Friday. My thanks, and I look forward to seeing everyone in the virtual flesh for the first time. :D
