Resistance 2 Patch 1.40 Details

320 8

If you played Resistance: Fall of Man, you know that Insomniac continually looked for ways to improve the online experience, even several months after the game’s release. We’re taking the same approach with Resistance 2, as patch 1.40 will be available for download on Monday, January 26 (you’ll automatically receive the download prompt the next time you play the game). The patch addresses several areas, including:

Multiplayer Progression

Some people have seen their competitive and/or cooperative characters reset to level 1. For several of those cases, this patch will not only bring back all the XP, stats, and attributes that you’ve lost, but it will also add to your character profile the XP/stats/attributes that you’ve earned since those levels were reset. For example, say you were a level 20 medic and after being reset to level 1, and you earned 5,000 XP. Thanks to the patch, you’ll return a level 20 medic and that 5,000 XP will be added to your profile.

This patch will also correct some medal and trophy issues, including the “Killing Machine” trophy (if you’ve already accumulated 10,000 kills but haven’t received this trophy, it’ll pop up as soon as you download the patch).

Here are some additional patch 1.40 details:

Trophy/Medal/Ribbons

  • “Salute Me” trophy is not awarded until player reaches level 31 (Lieutenant)
  • “Berserker” trophy can be collected during non-ranked games
  • “Survivor” medal can be collected in cooperative games
  • “Sure Shot” ribbon is awarded if player has accuracy of exactly 50%

Clans

  • Added clan support for viewing members, sending invites, and setting up clan tags
  • Default clan region is now USA

Match Balancing

  • Unbalanced ranked games are cancelled in staging before the game is started
  • Parties are prevented from matchmaking into free-for-all Deathmatch games

Competitive

  • Loadouts can be disabled in the “Create Game” screen in competitive games
  • Balanced the chance of dropping large ammo pickups in competitive games
  • Core Control scoreboard displays “Kills”
  • Improved scoreboard formatting

Cooperative

  • Balanced the amount of XP gained by the Medic class in cooperative games
  • Stalker movement enabled in cooperative games
  • Small ammo pickups don’t give LAARK ammo in cooperative games

Weapons/Gameplay

  • Splash damage on Pulse Cannon can damage the player firing it
  • Rossmore reticule better reflects its accuracy
  • Fire is easier to shake off
  • Players cannot swap weapons in the middle of a melee attack

Miscellaneous

  • Localized text updates
  • Network message optimizations
  • EULA displays the correct language text for Norwegian, Finnish, Swedish and Danish

Now you may be asking, “But what about adding the option to save the second player’s character progress?” Truth be told, it required a certain PS3 firmware that wasn’t available at the time of Resistance 2’s release. We now have that firmware and are currently working to implement the feature. As soon as it’s ready, we’ll get it out to you.

If you have any questions regarding the patch, please visit and post in the MyResistance.net message boards. The Insomniacs will be there to help answer them.

  • can you guys believe this, where else do you get this close and personal with the devs of our favorite games? (no where)

but i have to say good job on the games Insomniac and please keep up the good work! i have the game and love it!

  • This is awesome, but I cant wait for the split screen stats to work properly. THATS what I want more than anything..

I am excited about the Stalker Moving. That will be interesting!

  • Sweet!

  • Would love to see a premium map expansion that added several co-op maps and upped the level cap to 60.

The thought would be that you probably shouldnt try these new harder levels until you are close to level 30… would be awesome.

I would pay good money for something like that!

  • This is great news! I’m just wondering, are there plans to ever let Defensive kills be registered in Skirmish?

  • Nothing about it freezing at the main menu at all?

I am not a rare case, there are many people that have this problem.

    Please help Bryan.

  • GREAT update!!! Now, waiting on the 2nd player save stats feature and this game will be perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Kai: please explain to me how you could possibly make an obviously single-player well-balanced title into a co-op title without ruining the balance and completely changing the story arc?

Army of Two makes sense with two players, Resistance Co-Op online makes sense with /n/ players, but hacking split-screen co-op into a true single-player game is just strange at best.

  • Personally I’m still waiting to be able to enter a new co-op game without having to first leave the stats screen, and then move the cursor over co-op, and then wait for a new matchmaking session.

“Press start to play another round” would make a lot more sense.

Also, why can’t I add people to my list or invite them to my party directly from the various stats screens?

  • I got R2 on the first day it came out, and i still havent beat this game yet. Online play is fun.

  • Also, I know this is not exactly related to the patch, but when are you guys planning on correcting the way the data appears for Co-Op on MyRes?

    • We\’ll be making some tweaks to the website (as as well as adding new features to MyRes) over the coming weeks.

  • This is a great step forward for the game. Although I’l slightly sad that my default medic will be losing out on some XP gain, I can definately see why you did this. It’s a shame you guys have copped so much flak while you’ve worked on this, but I have to say I’m very impressed with all the stuff in this. You have my support, for sure. ;)

  • What the hell happened to RESISTANCE? Yes, this is another one of “those” posts…..
This is not about complaining or giving crap to Insomniac. I am writing this because I fell in love with R:FoM and the sequel has me scratching my head. I have been around since the beginning, over 50,000 total kills and over 1,000 kills with every weapon in R:FoM. This is only intended as feedback and opinion from a fan….I still consider Insomniac one of the best.

This is all feedback on Competitive play:

One of the biggest changes that I don’t understand is the lack of identity for the Humans and Chimeras.
R2 is really just normal looking humans Vs ugly looking humans. What happened to the Chimera? Are they really just humans with different skins? What happened to the Rage? What happened to the weakness of heat? What happened to the differences in these two races?

  • So basically in R2 the Humans and Chimera are EXACTLY the same except for that ONE berserk difference. And do many people even use those when there is invisibility, LAARK/Pulse, Ironheart, and Ring of Life at their disposal?

I am sure they changed it to make the game “fair”, but that makes it less fun. One of the best aspects of R:Fom was taking out a Raging Chimera who should have just kicked your ass. In R2 there is no satisfaction in killing a Chimera because they have the same exact abilities as you. In R:FoM there were two rounds, usually you played one as a Human and one as a Chimera. You got to play with the pros and cons of both races that way, and it was totally fair. In R2 there is one round where it really makes no difference if you are human or Chimera. This is boring and lacks the overwhelming feeling of being attacked by a creature who should be stronger than yourself.

  • Berserks suck, plain and simple. I don’t understand how giving an advantage to a veteran player makes this game fun for newcomers. Shouldn’t all players have the same abilities at their disposal from the start and let the skill of those abilities determine the better player?
“Oh you are new to the game? Here let me blast you with my Pulse Cannon, slap you in the face while I’m invisible, and laugh as your bullets tickle me while my ironheart or ring of life is enabled. You will have better luck once you level up enough to have these perks you noob”

And really what is the point after all the players level up and have these perks? It just turns into a rock, paper, scissor game of who has what ability and when that ability gets activated.

Another thing that erks me is that you can’t see if an opponent has the ring of life or ironheart ability activated until you are close to them. Two opponents can be in a gunfight at midrange distance and you can’t tell if they have a berserk activated. Only until it shows the player that killed you do you see the ring or the ironheart bubble. “Oh, so that’s why I lost”

Berserks only give a greater advantage to good players.

  • Im sorry, but the secondary fire of the Marksman has got to be the LAMEST choice for Competitive play. Releasing scouting shock orbs that take more than a ¼ of your health and require absolutely no skill is quite sad. What’s worse is the orb will continue to kill you even if you killed your opponent. Sure you can shoot down the orb, but honestly is anyone really successful at that? I know the Splicer acts the same way with the secondary fire. It can still kill you after you have taken your opponent down, but your opponent actually had to aim and land the blade in the first place; not just hit the secondary fire button and watch the sparks fly.

Omission of the Arc Charger and Dragon. These were two of the coolest and most original weapons in R:Fom. They added diversity to the weapon set and were FUN to use.

The Grenade icon doesn’t seem to be accurate, and the Hedgehog is the worst. One spike seems to kill you and the icon, when it shows up, is terribly inaccurate to where I am standing.

  • There are more LAARKS/Pulse Cannons and 40’s in R2 than in R:FoM. 40’s were one of the biggest complaints in R:FoM and now there are more of them. Also, why is there no stat tracking of the 40mm use? This was asked for many times on R:FoM, thought for sure it would have made it into this game.

The weapon wheel – this has been beat to death, but I miss it and it’s a shame the two weapon system is used JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER FPS.

Using the sixaxis to view the map and stats. This feature was GREAT in R:FoM. You could check the stats of all the players and view the entire map just by tilting the controller in each direction. You could continue to run and aim while checking either screen. In R2 I have to use my thumb to hit select to check the stats. Sure this is a simple feature, BUT WHY OMIT THINGS IN A SEQUEL THAT WORKED SO WELL IN THE ORIGINAL?

  • Just wanted you guys to know, I love Resistance 2! And I also love how you set up the online. I have just one slight suggestion that would make this game truly awesome. It would be nice for you guys to create some new maps that are made for level 30s and up, kinda like the special areas in Everquest that only level 30s and up can explore. And make those stages REALLY hard! With my level 30 characters I can breeze through any stage anymore without much thought or difficulty. I also have not much reason to go back into the battlefield when I have no more levels to gain.

So please make a patch that ups the level cap and create extra hard zones for us level 30ers to battle in co-op please!

This would make the co-op online game so much better. :)

  • Why is there no in game messaging system?? In R:Fom after a game was over there were always “good games” flying around and communicating with new players. Now if I want to send a message I have to access the XMB, and type the name of the person I want to send a message to. The omission of in game messaging takes R2 a couple steps backwards. Yes, I know, I have a mic, but after the game is over I would still like to easily send a message to “xxXXR4peR4liFeXXxx” and NOT have to type his name out.

Air Vents – the new style is sad. There is very little control and choice about how to maneuver. If an opponent hits the air vent, I know where he is going. “let me just prepare myself to kill you because I KNOW where your going to land.” Free control air vents add tactical decisions, not predetermined destinations.

  • A lot of people are always proclaiming that the changes to R2 from R:Fom are progressive. Well, just because a change was made, doesn’t mean it was in the right direction. I have no problem with change, but the changes made to R2 have created a game just like all the other FPS. To me, change means different NOT the same. All the original ideas from R:Fom are stripped away and R2 is just a skeleton of its predecessor.

Again, this may come off as complaining, but it is strictly feedback from a fan of the original game. I will still play R2 for a little bit, but I already know it will not infect me like FoM did. I really hope there is a R3, but I hope it takes more from FoM and just a small pinch from R2.

Thank you Insomniac for your outstanding track record, I know you can’t please everyone. Just wish more of the originality from FoM was preserved.

    Campaign Note:
I would rather have smaller bosses that actually put up a fight (R:Fom), than 300 foot monsters that look VERY cool, but are insultingly easy to beat and very unrewarding with a sense of accomplishment (R2).

  • Loadouts can be disabled in the “Create Game” screen in competitive games

Does this mean we can ban certain berserk/alt fire/guns?

    ANSWER THE Q PLZ

  • Really would love a reply James.

I have only really found one feature with the RROD michiene that I found kinda cool and was disapointed when I could not do that in R2. Now this might have something to do with your final coment on the post but I want to make sure.

When I play on his paper weight (it broken again right now) I play with my own profile and get my own acheivements (Gears 2 was kinda need for this as they also update me on how close I am to getting the acheivement… would love that in future games) even though he booted the game under his profile and I’m login into his game.

It this something that is coming as when he comes to my place he would like to start getting his own trophies for when get his PS3.

Hopefully you can shed some light on my babbling.

  • I BEG OF YOU PLEASE. Let us join friend’s games thru the in-game allies menu.

And when are playing a “pub” game, or just a random game online, please let us continue the game even when the level finishes.

it frustrates me when i find a good group of people online and we cant even go to the next level together!
Thank you, it is a really fun game so far but the multiplayer is just a little bit lacking in the connectivity spots.

  • I think R2 rocks and I am glad the medic points were fixed but it’s far to late as most people have already gotten the trophy for it. I however have not, as I am working on the Special Ops.

I think this patch rocks and I don’t know why you people are coming here complaining and saying your going to sell this and buy KZ2 lacking the very features you request of R2.

Insomniac, some of us love you guys! Keep up the incredible work.

Even my wife loves this game and I had to buy a 2nd PS3 and 2nd copy of R2 so I could get my PS3 back. So that’s a true testament to the power of the Chimera.

  • Yeah, this is great and all, but I am still upset that they still don’t have the main story in multiplayer co-op mode.

It’s amazing all the other stuff that was done with this game!

  • …did seem harder to shake off fire…thought it was just my imagination….havent played today…about to get on

  • Thanks for the support of R2, I loved the double melee though, you could take out at least 4 people on with it.

  • Awesome!! I can get back to playing this!

  • As an elderly and casual gamer I’d like to thank you Insomniac chaps for the finest, guttural, gritty online competitive firefights since Quake2.

Good news on the patch, and it’s *great* to hear more maps are being worked on. Thanks.

  • This is great news!
Im glad IG is doing a great job with keeping the game upto date as much as possible.
I am REALLY looking forward to the split-screen thing.
So i can go back to try getting that 10,000 kill trophy.. the only trophy left.. (by any chance you guys could lower the kills to 5k ? ;) lol)

I play split screen with my big bro, and he forces me to log into his account.. so i dont get any kills.. even though i prolly have stacked the same kills as him around 5k on his account.. and i have about 4k kills on mine :(

  • Am I correct in my belief that co-op scales to the level of the ?co-operators?

e.g. 8 lv 30 players get sent into a hellstorm whereas a group of lv 1 a light drizzle?

Also, and I doubt you can disclose this, but any chance we’ll see a bump in the (co-op / otherwise) level cap in the future? Co-op loses a bit of it’s magic when there is nothing left to achieve :(

Lastly AWESOME GAME & COMPANY, IG ROCKS! It’s so cool to know that you guys take note of community suggestions, not sit in an ivory tower as some developers do. Can’t wait to rescue clank in the near future!!

  • PLEASE! PLEASE!

Could you add some message in the lobby asking players NOT to shoot any other player not marked as part of their “enemy squad”?… I follow the honor rules of leaving alone those players that are not part of my “enemy” squad…but it’s really frustrating that a big part of the players don’t care about that

You should reduce points, kills and XP from those killing everybody as long as their are not part of their squad….

I love the game (SP and MP), you did a great job, glad to hear you guys are monitoring player feedback!

When is the new Ratchet&Clank game coming out ;)

  • I don’t want XBOX 360 to have exclusivity to Splinter Cell: Conviction when Ubisoft is third party and has put games out for Sony in the past.

Come on Sony! Shake your money maker! (money maker = Playstation 3)

  • I have been reading in various boards and sites that to get the Beating the game on SuperHuman Level trophy, you just have to complete the last level on that difficulty mode and it unlocks the trophy. Is that bug also being fixed in this patch? Because the trophy being a Gold and i dont think it should be so easy to get one.

  • So this update fixes problems that should have been fixed before the game went “gold” (which is such a terrible word to throw around these days) instead of adding new content that the game desperately needs? Good job insomniac.

  • Thanks for a fun game – I’ve gotten several of my friends to buy the game so they can bring their PS3s over and we play co-op. Can’t wait for that 2nd player sign-on!

Couple things I hope can be patched for co-op:
    – the whole party thing and joining games is always hard for everyone – especially private games (I’ve never gotten private games to work right). Hopefully this user experience can be improved!?
    – Is there a way to do more than one co-op level/mission without kicking out to menu? I end up getting with a good group that plays well together and then when we finish the mission its over and I likely never see them again :(

I wonder if the offline 2 person co-op was actually doable (way too hard to do with just 2 people now) more people would stop asking for 2 person campaign mode?

  • to whom it may concern
i have R2 and i used to be able to play it know i can not it gets to the Insomniac Games
screen and freezes ive tryed everything formatting/deleteing saves and other stuff and nothing works

  • Decent patch, though its ashame the FarEye wasnt tweaked, that weapon is insanely unbalanced.

  • hey insomniac thanks for giving me r2 its amazing looking forward to being able to save two player stats hope lbp does this too keep up wat ur doing ur games r the best:D

  • This is the best online game i have ever played! I play it all the time with my clan well i play this game so much my clan iKz on http://www.consolegaming.eu is first on the clan ladder so were best clan in the EU. can you please sign up to the website and talk to us.

    thats the website-

    http://www.insomniackillerz.freeforums.org/portal.php

  • thats awesome that your allowing stalker movement but any word on fixing the movement thats already allowed?…

like when titans get stuck and when people try to lead the alpha grims to the porch in orick where they cant be attacked… technically the grims can slap the crap outta anyone that sits up there but they cant 90% of the time…

  • Glad to see you guys are still working to improve a already awesome game. Can not wait for more Ratchet and Clank goodness.

  • I always though the reason why Medics received more experience is to award people in playing that class since in general healing types get played less.

No matter I’ve got my platinum trophy so I’m kinda done with the game. Good to hear that you folks are still developing the game, I can’t wait to see additional content in the future!

  • So will this fix the issue I am having where I cant unlock any trophies ever since i changed my PSN email? I see you confirmed fixes for some trophies but i cannot unlock any of them (40 car explosions, 20 co-op for example)

  • wow this patch sux it just basicly fix the issues.

i wanted to have more option in custom game like RFOM…………

  • There’s a major bug when trying to play with a party online.

I tried playing with some friends last night and was more frustrated than anything with trying to get into the same game as the people on my party. After we party up, if I go and try and find a game (coop), I would enter one, but it would only be me, and none of my friends would be there. Then they’re all wondering what happened as they just sit there with no indication what happened.

Also, we found out that if you send multiple invitations to someone, and they accept multiple times, your entire party gets screwed up.

Example: I send two invitations to the same friend. The friend accepts the first one, and it properly show my party as 2/30, which both our names showing. If my friend then accepts the second invitation (since there’s still one pending), my party increases to 3/30, but now I’m the only one in the list. It also starts making this weird sound constantly. At that point, I am unable to join any game at all unless I exit the game completely and start it up again.

  • I have to say out of all the online games I’ve played, R2 has got to have the worst lobby system by far and it’s confusing as hell.

Like at first we didn’t realize you had to open up the party in order for your friends or clan members to even join your party. I had to look it up online on why I could never join my friend’s party. Definitely not intuitive at all.

  • As stupid as this sounds, I’m glad the freaking stalker now moves. I do sure miss the whole weak spot in enemies from RFoM. it was somewhat cool to try and shoot the hoses off the Chimera and try to shoot the stalker’s core. The stalker felt challenging in RFoM, not so much in R2

  • well the medic deserves all the xp because he works hard so i think they should have left it at that but whatever….
