Help Us Help You: Take the PlayStation.Blog Survey

292 10

Hey there, PlayStation.Blog reader! You may have noticed the addition of Chris Morell to our staff in December. If not, I encourage you to head over to his Flower interview and giggle at the freeze-frame there. It’s OK, I’ll wait.

There, wasn’t that worth it?

Besides making faces for the camera, Chris has enabled us, your PlayStation Social Media Team, to think a bit more expansively. We want to do more with our existing Facebook and Twitter accounts. We want to produce more video (and audio?) content for the Blog. Basically, to do more of the stuff that you like, and to do the things you already like, only better.

But what, exactly, *do* you like? That leads us the the first ever PlayStation.Blog Readers Survey. We’ve crafted together a fairly short web survey to ask you about your experience with the Blog, and a tiny bit more about your larger interactions with PlayStation. Don’t worry, there are no uncomfortable questions like “How much money do you make in a year?” or “How did you do on your SATs?” or “Really that’s it? Don’t you think you should’ve studied more?” Rather, the questions will be used directly to craft new content and, perhaps, new applications that you will love from Day 1.

PlayStation.Blog Reader Survey

Please click here to start the survey. You’ll be redirected to another site, but you will *not* be asked *any* personal information (not even an email address), and you will not be spammed, harassed, or made fun of in any way for having too few Trophies. And if you don’t want to answer the questions that don’t have an asterisk next to them (about half), you don’t even have to.

Thanks in advance, and I hope you have a great weekend!

  • I just took the Survey but couldn’t help but add what I would like to see in future Firmware updates.Sorry I just feel I needed to take any opportunity to get out what I feel needed to be heard by Sony.

P.S. I also added feedback on the Blog so it’s a Win Win situation.

  • As far as region content is concerned, I like that this blog is US only as the URL suggests. So instead of clogging up this blog with more entries, I think it’s best to launch blog.eu.playstation.com for the Euro gamers, etc.

  • Just took the survey and it was interesting. I still don’t understand why theres a question about “Do you own a cell phone with a camera?” Hmmmmmmmm Can’t wait to find out!

  • Awesome. I hope many of you feel like me so the PS-Blog team ends up adding a feedback form & a User Post history tracker.

We all know how messy it is to leave feedback in the middle of a post which they might never read, not mention that if they read it and leave a reply how hard it is for us to re-find our post.

  • We should definitely have more surveys like this. It would really help improve the blog and improve the quality of Sony products in general in the long run I think.
Also, I think that a podcast is a great Idea!!

Thanks guys for truly listening to us dedicated PS fans!

  • If you guys do a podcast or a videocast it should definitely be included in the PlayStation Store. It works for Pulse, so I would imagine that it would work for that too.

  • Yea, helped you and answered this questions :) But one thing is bugging me, I’m from Europe, so I just wonder, which of these features will be US only. Greetings from Poland Jeff and others :) Hope I’ll get anwser.

  • Great survey, made me want to comment for the first time. I hope a lot of our ideas get put to use.

  • You guys should make PS Nation Podcast your official podcast!

  • Thank you guys for lisening to us! This is why i support sony all the way, even though i own the other systems.

  • how about letting us check our PSN messages from this site? would be cool if i could read/reply to my messages

  • How do you get the survey trophy? I wasn’t even logged in when I did the survey and it never asked me to log in.

  • awesome jeff, site has come a long way ;-) keep up the good work sony!

  • @Jeff’s reply to #22

Damn, I really wanted a Bulldog..

  • Took the survey! I know Killzone 2, GoW 3, and Uncharted 2 are going to rock, but I’m hoping we all gave the PSP some love too!

    And I checked off “News”, but I wouldn’t mind more contests/giveaways! ;p

  • Survey Complete. Thanks for listening Sony, glad to see such a big company listening to their customers.

Killzone 2 demo next week! XD

PS. Love the Avatar Chris Morell! =)

  • #253

Yeah, we’d love our own EU blog too, but we have heard no news about it at all. SCEE hardly speak with thei customers…

Jeff, I made a comment #142 that is awaiting moderation… why is that? Did I swear? Or maybe it was the SCEE Equality Appeal website pimping I did at the end… ooops! :)

Sorry to clog up the blog #253! :)

  • That wasn’t so bad, but I would’ve understood if you’d asked for PSN IDs to help validate the results.

I’m surprised there isn’t a built-in survey / feedback system on the PS3 personally. It wouldn’t be hard to add a survey option under ‘Network’ or request feedback on games the player has recently played.

  • I hope I got the answers correct!

  • simplier than on the survey….
a “JAYWALING” like show! 20minutes just walking around and asking questions! funny or not. Culture or not. It could be on the streets, on studios, on headquarters… ENDLESS POSSIBILITES!

  • Aww Man I would just absolutely geek over more video content and an audio podcast :D

  • I like this idea you guys have. Put on a short survey to hear us, the readers. Thanks guys.

  • I just wanna say thanks for getting the log in thing working right. (I merged my accounts and it was still showing my blog name, now it’s showing PSN.) I’m glad thanks.

  • Question??

Yesterday, I posted a comment above number #132. That comment has two internet links. Today I still see this message “Your comment is awaiting moderation” on comment #133. I am wondering if you are allowed to post links to other websites because the two link are clickable and when it will appear without the message.. Anyone know sometime I don’t?

  • Took the survey yesterday. I don’t see this blog needing too much of an overhaul. Maye just some tweaking here and there.

And you know what, when I think of PlayStation news, I can’t help but think of the old staff at the old PSM magazine here in the US. Whatever happened to those guys…

  • Well I read the blog enough. Might as well post on it. (First Comment)

A Podcast would be nice, also having it as a download on the PSstore would be a very good idea. The podcast could come out every week or everyother. (Up to you guys.) If, it happend to be a video podcast, putting it on the PSstore would make all the more sence, keep in mind only a small % of Playstation owners go to the blog, This would help expand and reach new users.

A good name for the podcast could be the “Playstation Nation Podcast.” The PNP \m/^.^\m/

Somthing I would like to see is a “User Spotlight” where you pick a PSN user and basicly interview them and ask things like what games they like, what there looking foward to…and so on.

I could list ideas all day but as you know Jeff, we have our own site coming soon. Cant give out all our secrets.

  • Survey Taken, Thanks for listening!!

  • The blog is fine, except that people in europe want their own official ps blog. :(

  • done

  • LOL everyone is asking for a podcast and I don’t even know what that is XD…

  • Took the survey. I don’t know why, but I love surveys ;) More surveys! The only problem I have with the blog is it’s not that usable through the PS3’s browser. What I mean are there are some hic-ups. Logging in for instance freezes my systems normaly(and it’s not my system as I have 2 different systems and it does the same to both, and my buddy who lives about 20 minutes away has the same problem). Posting is another area where I have problems. I have made maybe ten posts and I think only one maybe two have actually posted. Again the system will either freeze or no action is taken when I press the submit button. I will be suprised if this actually posts.

Other than that I like the blog, it has got better with time. So I feel the survey will be used rather than just collected. As a couple of posters stated I would like to see a little more interactivity with the responses rather than submit story and then run to the next job. Personal touches like that go a long way with consumers…

  • I would like to see a side only for request of anything we would like to see on any PlayStation Related system or sites.

    (Example)
    Subject: PS3 Firmware Update

Comment: I would like to hear radio stations on my PS3, like i do on my PSP system.
    ————-

That would be fantastic if we could help by giving some ideas of what we would like to see on any of our PlayStation systems.

What do you think Social Media Team?

  • Just filled in the survey. Keep up the good work guys.

Like many others have said, a podcast would be good from the point of view that you guys deal 1:1 with the developers and know what info can/can’t be shared at that moment in time.

Listening to journalists talk about things we can’t try/know ourselves is really interesting, but for the PS3/PSP at least you guys would even have the upper hand on the journalists for sharing Sony news with us.

The other thing that would be pretty cool to promote the blog would be an XMB icon under the network section on the PS3. Also if you’re signed onto PSN on your PS3, it would be even better if when you click the blog icon it loads the PS3 browser auto-signed in [seeing as blog sign in/psn sign in is now universal].

    Looking forward to survey feedback!

“Trophy level next to each person’s name would be a nice and easy way to filter out the Xbox fanboys who troll the blog daily.”

I only disagree with this statement because it then basically labels PSP/PS2 owners as trolls/Xbox360 fanboys as neither of them have access to trophy’s of any sort without buying and extensively playing a PS3. I also am getting very tired of the PS3 only mentality around here, as the PSP needs a fair share of the spotlight too.

And to your response, that’s excellent news. I’ve always felt we should see more PSP friendly forms of Sony news.

  • well people all i want is slacker on my ps3 =)

  • The PlayStation Blog feels very one-sided. There’s a flow of information from Sony to us fans, but our comments seem to fall on deaf ears. How about acknowledging some of the comments that appear again and again. How many times have Canadians asked about the video store, without any reply or statement on the matter. Or look at the recent Firmware post where many comments asked for changes to voice chat, or support of MKV and Samba shares in the media player. Does Sony care at all about the fans?

  • I’ve read teh blog previously while surfing the web on my PS3, but I registered specifically so I could comment on this:

I find it the height of irony that I am unable to create an account for the Official Playstation Blog using my PS3’s browser, and am told that the site is intended to be used/viewed with a PC. I find it ironic almost to the point of disbelief that Sony’s flagship product is excluded from the blog dedicated to it.

Why is Sony’s official site exluding the very same product that it is supposedly ABOUT? …Bueller? …Bueller? …anyone?

  • If you guys do end up doing a podcast, all I ask is that you make it available from RSS so I can download it onto my PSP. :-p

    Dear kind Uncle SCEA!

I’m an orphan… a neglected customer of SCEE! We from across the pond would be grateful if you would consider taking us under your wing, as SCEE continuously ignore us and we’re left in the dark! :(

If you won’t have us, please kick SCEEs asses in to gear on our behalf!

I’m sure I am not the only European to express my dismay with SCEE within your survey, or on your blog. We’re so desperate to be heard by Sony that we’re flooding to SCEA!

Thanks for providing a great, more personal service (which hopefully is an example for SCEE to follow), and for listening to us all.

    Peace!

p.s. Just out of interest, what percentage of your viewers are from outside the SCEA region?

p.p.s. We have even set up the SCEE Equality Appeal (SCEEEA) website, and some form of communication with SCEE such as an official EU blog is a top request!

  • I thought it said you would get a trophy, how does that work if you didnt ask us to login?

  • Any word on Eye Pet? Whens that coming out?

  • Jeff,

I noticed that there was a question based on Regions. Would it be likely that your going to provide worldwide coverage. There are games just releasing in Japan, that we will likely get eventually. I also think there are developers and also unique games for Europe that would be worth while to cover too. It seems that many EU folks frequent this blog, so I would say this suggests a rather small coverage of European things. I’m not saying cover what releases the EU store have weekly, but rather some developer notes, or the status of gaming. I thin it would interesting to note what games would be playable worldwide. after all I can use the PSN to game all over the world, why doesn’t the blog provide worldwide coverage too?

  • I would think that you’d make it a TOP PRIORITY to have the blog working on the two current PlayStation systems (the PSP and PS3).

But I can’t even open the blog on ny PSP. I just get a blank screen whenever I try to browse to the blog (is there some secret I don’t know about?).

I can view the blog on my PS3, but the functionality is spotty at best.

    These should be priorities…

  • Jeff,
I was disappointed to see that you didn’t ask about our SAT scores. Please, next time ask. I was very proud of my performance and after being out of school for a while, no one seems to care. Why doesn’t SCEA care? :(

  • It’s awesome you are trying to listen to your userbase, and I do applaud you for it. Survey is taken and sent off to others so they could come here and take it too!

  • It would be nice if you could switch off certain messaging per-region or something. It’s annoying being in Canada and constantly being told about all the great movies that are going up that I can’t watch. Being told which movies are most popular is just rubbing salt in the wound. Pulse spends half its time on this too, so I don’t watch that either; it’s a waste of my bits.

  • Actually, I just realized I do have a comment or two..

What I think is really lacking is not the quantity of what’s said here and elsewhere, but the authority. I don’t feel like it’s easy to tell whose blog this is. Where does the buck stop? Now that’s cool if you’re running a blog nexus/aggregator. But the current design (and titleage) seems to imply that it’s supposed to be more of a singular voice.

Recommendations: Move in a livejournal/nexus direction; use actual photos of contributors so people can tell and appreciate who you are; use more aggressive color-coding of categories and in particular for people within them to distinguish who’s doing the talking, and make sure that the people doing the talking do so consistently so we can get to know them; remove ability for users to rate summarized articles from the front page to save space (why should we be able to rate an article we haven’t read?); add an RSS feed on your front page to aggregate news and articles from your partners

  • i think you should make an ipod touch/ iphone app for the playstation.blog

  • Ah geez, I forgot to place one of my most anticipated games in the list on the survey.

Sorry for the snub, Naughty Dog! Can’t wait for Uncharted 2!

  • Done it. It would be nice if the blog may have some news and feedback about the Mexico market and its PS Store, which actually, sucks pretty bad.

    Greetings.
