Metal Gear Online – SCENE Expansion Details!

222 1

Hello everyone – I’m excited to announce details of the new Metal Gear Online SCENE Expansion pack! Coming in March, there will be tons of new content to keep old and new players alike entertained: new maps, special characters, new gear, and of course a couple surprises.

First, I’m excited to announce that now, in order to make the SCENE Expansion more accessible, players will be able to use their PayPal account, along with their PlayStation Network Wallet, if they so choose, to purchase the SCENE Expansion.

For those players that want to get a head start on the action and pre-order SCENE through Metal Gear Online’s in-game shop or Konami’s shop, there’s a special gift in store. Once the pre-order period starts, one week before the release date, all players who pre-order SCENE will receive a special “cardboard man” head gear for free. It should definitely provide ample cover for any bad hair day.

Now for the stuff I know you all are most excited about, the new maps and characters!

The first new map is Outer Outlet, an all new environment that takes place in a commercial mall area made up of lots of buildings and subterranean areas. Multiple floors with openings onto the areas above and below will offer many unique vantage points from which to stage the action, while the décor will provide plenty of unexpected places to seek cover. It should be ideal for medium to long range battles.

Second is Hazard House, set in a huge three story mansion – a take on the one seen from Act II of the MGS4 single player game. Lots of doors, hallways, and blind corners, will make for intense claustrophobic combat.

Third is Ravaged Riverfront – a take on the Eastern European environment from Act III of the MGS4 single player game – with a large clock tower surrounded by lots of underground and underwater areas. Lots of clear space, perfect for long range attacks.

SCENE will also bring two long awaited, much requested, special characters to MGO – Raiden and Vamp, both with impressive special abilities and offensive power to spare! First is Vamp, knife-expert extraordinaire. You may be able to defeat him once, but that’s no guarantee he won’t be back for more! Second is Raiden, whose appearance belies his extraordinary skill and agility in combat. They are formidable opponents, or one of them can be a great ally to have on your team. Yes, you will indeed be able to have a multiplayer battle between Raiden and Vamp, which is a fun as it looks! More specifics about their abilities will be revealed soon!

Next week, we will be releasing a trailer for SCENE on the PlayStation Network and the PlayStation Blog, so please look out for that. There’s even more on the way with the SCENE Expansion – stay tuned to the PlayStation Blog in the coming weeks for more details!

  • Was this post secretly done by Grace? We are getting the same level of response.

    :)

  • This post made my day! Vamp vs. Raiden?! If we get to do the crazy moves that were in the single player part of the game, then this will be the only game I play in March!

  • When will you integrate the PSN ID with MGO? Plus can you guys put all DLC on the playstation store like everybody else. It is great you can buy THIS dlc with you playstation wallet.

  • That’s really cool. Well done.

    All that we request is:

    – MEME, SCENE and GENE all on PSN.
    – An account linkage with PSN.
    – Trophies (I have already created a heapful (names, requirements) so if you guys need help just ask :)

  • Where are the trophies!?
I haven’t gone for the Big Boss Emblem cause I’ve been waiting for it.

Also, I would have been more likely to buy these expansions had they been sold through PSN. Buying through Konami’s servers is not an option for me.

  • Wait so when you say we can buy the expansion over PSN how will that transfer over to our konami ID?

and If I buy the NA expansion thru PSN will it transfer to my JPN MGO account?

  • If you do make a trophy patch, please make it strictly on the solo campaign. I hate going for ridiculous online trophies…like R2’s kill 10,000 people online.

  • This is the expansion I’ve been waiting for, Ravaged Riverfront looks like a pre-release pic I saw last year. Raiden and Vamp are the ones I always wanted to play as. I hope their attacks are as intense as in the cutscenes, i.e. able to block bullets w/ swords. It would suck to just get shot up while you’re playing as this powerful character.

  • I wont be getting this if they dont patch trophies to the game

  • I wish there were trophies and also that it was available in the PS Store, because I’m only able to play on the basic games.

  • juanpipe Brandon said that the expansions will be in the PSN store

  • MGS4 is a perfect game it dont need to have trophies added on to it

  • How about instead of working on expansions like a bunch of money hungry idiots, you fix the glitches that have plagued the game since GENE was released and you’ve still done nothing about? Wouldn’t that be awesome if those didn’t exist anymore? I think it would.

  • Daaaaaaaaaaaaam. This Game Is Ganna Get Crazzzzy!

  • “MGS4 is a perfect game it dont need to have trophies added on to it”

That’s good for you, you don’t speak for the rest of us. I don’t see how the inclusion of trophies would effect you, so don’t bring down everyone elses hopes.

  • Konami, please double PLEASE tell Kojima Productions to release a trophy patch!

  • Funny enough, I actually already have a Konami ID from back when I was in the Beta, but I never played the game online. Never regretted the purchase for a second though. Amazing game. I bow before thee, Kojima-san.

  • Sounds awesome, now the biggest part. Make it so we can use our PlayStation Network ID and knock off this other ID crap.

  • I need to ask: Since SCENE will be available by the PS store, will GENE and MEME be as well? The main reason I did not buy them was that my card was not able to be billed by Konami… But w/the PS Store works great, tho.

  • AWESSOMME I hope other players get to use a Katana(sword)!!!

  • might have to get back on that MGO

  • YAY so now we can use our very own PSN wallets to pay for this….I’ve getting an error message from visa but now I can pay with founds from my PSN wallet…

    Thanks a lot Sony!!!!

  • Awesome just Awesome i love and live just for MSG4 when this finnaly comes out ill be the first to start a room in octacon

Shame that there still no trophies though

  • I couldn’t care less for trophies, I mean, I love MGO and having trophies would be nice, but I think that what this game really needs is a better netcode. Lag is identical to MGO in subsistence and it’s so far the only game where I’ve seen an attacker and a defender mutually landing headshots on themselves. Even with green connection this stuff happens.

  • if i only have the gene expansion, do u know if there is going to be like a special sale with scene and meme together?

  • I LOVE the new maps, can’t wait for them.

  • Nice. Its great that konami is letting psn users pay with their psn wallet. I’m just hoping you guys lowered the price tag alittle on this expansion pack. The last two were way to pricy.

  • I bought everything, they fixed nothing…

I’ll leave this expansion in suspension, till, YOU Konami *ITCHES FIX THE GLITCHES and LAG SWITCHERS.

you see…MEME, GENE and SCENE can be severily OBSCENE.

  • I’m so glad that they still support this game. Thank you Konami!

  • Awesome post-launch support Konami. Keep it coming!

  • MGS4 is such a masterpiece in single player, it’s hard for me to settle for any less in multiplayer. Not to say that it is bad, it’s just that single player is SO much better. :D

    MGS4 trophies would be cool though… :D

  • I just wish MGO used PSN interfaces, instead of their own weird Konami.com thing.

  • I’m gonna preorder it so I can get the gift! I love the MGO updates, they are worth every penny! Keep up the great work Konami and Kojima Pro!

  • Looks good and I’d probably buy it if I could remember my Konami ID, game ID and whatever other weird stuff Konami demanded to play online. They had such weird password restrictions I had to make up something totally zany and different to what I usually use… no idea what it is anymore!

  • I just have to echo the thoughts of everyone else here. The Konami / Game ID system is a mess! I nearly gave up on the registration process! I won’t be returning to the game until it is made more simple, as other PS games do it.

  • How many of you actually READ the article? It says right there that you can buy it via the PS Store. Seriously. Most of you immediately posted to complain. I’ll wait on pricing for this but more than likely I will purchase it.

  • yea its goin to be sick im going to pre order it for sure

  • @poisonedsodapop:

    It says:

“First, I’m excited to announce that now, in order to make the SCENE Expansion more accessible, players will be able to use their PayPal account, along with their PlayStation Network Wallet, if they so choose, to purchase the SCENE Expansion.”

We’ll be able to use our PSN wallets, yes. While this is great news and should make buying the expansion easier, it did not say the SCENE expansion would be on the PlayStation Store.

This is a step in the right direction, but I’m sure some will (or already are) argue that it is not a big enough step.

Will I order the expansion? Probably, if I can refill my PSN wallet… But it would make things easier if it was available through the PlayStation Store.

In short, I’m still excited but have reservations…

  • I’d be interested, but I only like balanced games, sory.

  • This game is sitting on the shelf waiting for a Trophy patch, not doing ANYTHING with it until that happens (or I get fed up and sell it).

  • Add trophies either to MGS4 or to MGS. Or I’m pretty much done with it for a while.

    Still no PSN support either….

  • I want trophies soon.

  • Hi all – I’m jumping in to post some responses to the questions and comments here. First, to clear up some discussion about the PS Wallet / Store – SCENE will be available to purchase using your PS Wallet (the funds you have on PSN), but will not be available for purchase / download through the PS Store. So, basically, it’s another payment option (along with PayPal) available through the in-game / MGO store. Hopefully, this will help those of you who have had issues with payment in the past, and generally make it easier to get this content. On the subject of MGS4/MGO trophies and Konami ID – we hear you. We have been circulating these issues internally, and we will report back as soon as we are able. With regards to “cheaters”, it’s a battle every online game must face, and we have been working on addressing the specific “cheats” you have detailed, so please stay tuned. Also, we have been aggressively wielding the “banhammer”, and every genuine video/photo/or other evidence of cheating you can send us at support@konami.com really helps us tackle this. We really appreciate all your input and ask that you continue to help us make MGO a fun and fair game for everyone. Thank you very much! – B

  • FINALLY!! I can now use the PSN to buy the MGO expansions (I have no credit card). What’s the deal with not using the PSN in the first place??

  • Also besides clans, will you guys ever make some sort of a party system? It should be easier to get together with friends and join a game.

  • Metal Gear Is Awesome…

    But…

    TOO COSTLY!!!
    XD

You have to buy an additionaly character??
    C’mon Now…

I would totally play online, but I cant afford an extra character and definately dont want to wait for it to update yet again…

  • I got screwed by Konami. I changed my PSN account and forget all of my MGO info. WHY DO YOU GUYS HAVE TO MAKE THE ONLINE A HASSLE? WHY CAN’T YOU JUST RUN THE GAME OF PSN? WHY CAN I HAVE ONLY 1 MGO ACCOUNT ON A PS3? HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE WHO PLAY YOUR PS3? WHAT IF I DON’T WANT MY STATS MESSED UP? IS THIS TOO MUCH TO ASK? WIPE OUT ALL OF THE MGO STATS AND INTERGRATE PSN INTO MGO, THAT’S ALL WE’RE ASKING. Isn’t it odd to log in on a PSN account, that’s an e-mail and password to remember, log on KONAMI ID, another username, GAME ID and password, another hassle, Character name, another name you have to enter. Your content looks good, but why can’t you release it onthe PlayStation Store? If you want your players back you better wipe out the stats and intergrate PSN into MGO. I want to use my OWN PSN name, not some random stuff I need to remember. Why release content on Konami Game Store or what ever it is, why not PSN Store?

  • I haven’t touched MGS4 online, maybe I will try it soon.

  • Can we expect a trophy patch for MGS4 anytime soon as well?
