I’m Mark Stanley, Director and General Manager for Latin America at SCEA. I’m thrilled to announce that today PlayStation is officially expanding into Latin America!
So this means that you can now purchase any of the three PlayStation platforms, our library of software titles – such as Resistance 2 – and even the latest peripherals, including our Bluetooth Headset, in 13 countries across Latin America. We’re also working on providing access to PlayStation Network in select countries.
This is such an exciting opportunity and we’re looking forward to providing social entertainment and gaming experiences you can share among your friends and family around the world. This expansion is the direct result of feedback we received from you and we’re proud to deliver PlayStation products and services to enable you to easily connect, play and communicate with one another.
As a native of Costa Rica with many years working directly in the region, I know Latin America holds much promise of growth for SCEA. Muchas gracias to all of you in Latin America and around the world for your support!

Sony, you made the right call.
Looks like a lot of rabid Sony fans in the Latin America are ready for this.
I payed $680 US for my 160gb, before that I had a 40gb and I payed $500 US for that one and $400 x my god of war psp :( (In Costa Rica), PS3 games are between $75 and $80 that includes the Greatest Hits (same prices as new releases)…
I hope that you guys include Brazil! From other gaming sites I hear that Brazil is not in scope, if that`s the case you guys are macking a huge mistake. Brazil is the biggest country in Latin America. I and several of my friends already have PS3s even living in Brazil.

i bought a PS3 2 months after launch, getting the console wasnt a problem, the problem is that we dont have official support for our systems, if it breaks we are screwed, the amount of available titles here isnt the same as the US and it takes weeks for the stores to get them. No option to put our real country when you create a PSN account and the prices here are 2x the prices of the US

Kamahl_rg I created a new account for my friend on my ps3 a couple of weeks ago and Peru was already on the list of countries available.
Jeff is there a firmware update coming, thats going to fix the low Official PlayStation Headset output problem? This is a very well known issue and needs to be addressed. If there isnt can you pass this along too the people who can fix this? Thanks

It’d be amazing! And it’d be twice amazing if they accept credit cards for our country (I’m from Brazil) on the PSN!

How about expanding BC to the newer consoles, RPGs to the PS3, and some friggin’ games to the PSP for cripes sake?!!!
Liz Archibald from sony america updated us on the specific regions, saying, “these countries include argentina, chile, colombia, costa rica, ecuador, el salvador, guatemala, honduras, mexico, nicaragua, panama, peru and venezuela.
What about the rest of Europe; like Cyprus?

Buenas noticias, pero yo vivo en Miami, so I’ve had my PS3 for a while now, but this is awesome news for my fellow latinos, great stuff sony keep it up and congrats my brothers and sisters!!! :D

I really hope that this “support” is for real.
Last E3 Sony said that they would be expanding and now they are, but the PS Mexico Store is… sad for say the less.
Sony won’t let us use credit cards and we have to try to find the PSN Cards (Only available in 3 Sony Style stores all located in the same state) in US Dollars!!!!! only useful in the Mexican store.
So if Sony is really suppoting LA now, let us see the support.
When you state “We’re also working on providing access to PlayStation Network in select countries.”
Meaning PSN will not be available for those selected till about when?

The PS3 have’s like 3 years in mexico selling so-so because of its cost, but with every ps3 you sell you get a profit…

Sony anunciou na E3 que o suporte ao Brasil só chegaria em 2010, e mesmo assim, eles pretendem, pelo que foi dito – e reiterado por sites como Terra, UOL e etc – que quando finalmente chegar, eles planejam lançar aqui o PS2, não o PS3).

Guatemala, i hope Guatemala is in the list.

I’m chilean and, even though, the official release of the psp, ps2 and ps3 was last year here, this are so exciting news, specially because we have the possibility to have access to the additional online services, services that we are able to use right now creating different accounts for different regions… and… well… that just sucks.
And by the way, let us use our credit cards to buy content from the psn… please???
I have lots of friends in Venezuela with PS3s, the SONY Playstation brand is really strong over there, sadly they have to pay premium for their consoles since the market is not officially supported, they also want to use their credit cards to buy games in the PSN Store but their credit cards are not supported, I do believe that supporting those countries is a good idea.

Its great that we now have the OFFICIAL support from Sony, before this we had to get PS systems at a really high price and we didn’t have any warranty and support from Sony. Thanks a lot for this.
Now please have a PS store for Latin America so we can get all that cool stuff.
