PlayStation Expands to Latin America

Buenos Dias PlayStation fans!

I’m Mark Stanley, Director and General Manager for Latin America at SCEA. I’m thrilled to announce that today PlayStation is officially expanding into Latin America!

So this means that you can now purchase any of the three PlayStation platforms, our library of software titles – such as Resistance 2 – and even the latest peripherals, including our Bluetooth Headset, in 13 countries across Latin America. We’re also working on providing access to PlayStation Network in select countries.

This is such an exciting opportunity and we’re looking forward to providing social entertainment and gaming experiences you can share among your friends and family around the world. This expansion is the direct result of feedback we received from you and we’re proud to deliver PlayStation products and services to enable you to easily connect, play and communicate with one another.

As a native of Costa Rica with many years working directly in the region, I know Latin America holds much promise of growth for SCEA. Muchas gracias to all of you in Latin America and around the world for your support!

Viva PlayStation!

  • No Brazil?

No way! Why ignore the biggest LA market? Doesn’t make any sense, really.

  • Good to see all those brazilians here (count me in). Yeah, PS3 is considered the best console around here, because we did enjoyed the ps2 and we believe on sony’s products quality. I hope we have a Brazilian PSStore too. That would be amazing :D

  • * I hope PSN include Brazil too. We spend a lot of money buying games online. It´s much better buy credits directly.

  • This doesn’t mean when I join an America server that I will be thrown into one from mexico will it? Because if that’s the case then you need to let us set by language. I can’t tell you how annoying it is to get thrown into a game with a bunch of people talking a different language.

  • oh wait, theres no Brasil on the list…
    or should I say Brazil?

  • exelente job sony

  • PERFECT!!!, I HOPE THIS REACHES ARGENTINA, I LIVE IN ARGENTINA AND A PS3 GAME COST US BETWEEN 300 AND 250 ARS (PESOS ARGENTINA) = 86 & 72 U$D I HOPE THAT WITH THIS THE GAMES COST US THE U$D 60 THAT COSTS IN U.S.A. THE SAME FOR THE CONSOLES PS3 IS BETWEEN 800 & 1000 U$D (YES DOUBLE)GREAT NEWS

  • No estoy hablando espanol.

It’s unfortunate that PSN didn’t cover Latin America earlier, but it’ll be good to hear from more of our southern buddies and stuff

  • That’s such great news for all of PSfans around here! Many of us, in Peru for instance, have managed to get a PS3 console even paying lots of more cash than US users, but we did ’cause we love PS. I hope there are Official Sony products, official prices, warranty, and so on. I also hope there is a PStore not only for Peru, but for all of the Latin American Countries; I know Sony is not going to be dissapointed.

  • Hey Mark one question:

Did Sony finally will accept credit cards from Mexico?

  • Please confirm PS3 in Brazil!!!! 200 million people are waiting for you here Sony!!!!!

For all the playstation fans, now is the BRAZIL’s time!

Vamos lá Brasil, agora é nossa vez!

  • But…

I find that Brazil aren’t included in this list…

More one deception in my life… OMG!

    Please Sony!!! Come to Brazil!

    saludos.
    Cancun,Mexico.

  • Please,Sony I Love you.

    I Have a Playstation 3 80GB.

    And I’m from Brazil.

But i can’t buy anything from PS STORE.

Cause the PS Store doesn’t accept mine cards :(

Please come to Brazil, put CodeCards for sell =D

My God i can’t believe this!

If it came to brazil wll be awesome!

    Cheaper Games YAHHHHH

    My God i’m so Happy.
    =DDD

  • PERU ftw!!! country native of Gamers!!
yeah!, Playstation Network Expand to PERU.
    viva PlayStation!

  • Sony, I am amazed. How could you left Brazil, the biggest country in L.A. out??
Don’t you like to make money? What is the problem with Brazil?
I am sure a lot of PS2 and PS3 owners would like to know why we are left out.
    It’s just ridiculous.

  • Almost 50% of Latin America is not on the list: Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguai. Here’s the source:

    http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/20/sony-of-america-expands-into-other-half-of-america/

There is any chances in a future?

  • Noooo!

I completely understand that Sony won’t release the system here in Brazil but come on, we NEED a brazilian Playstation Store!

Pleeeeeeeeeeease Sony, just one more (BIG!) country ;)

  • i’m a brazilian ps3 pride owner, paid loads of money on my console, like US$800 for a 80gb, and have always imported my games.

    thoughts:
    – rumor has it brazil isn’t included, and if that’s the case it would be a huge flaw on this so-needed move. brazilian internet is already in flames because of that, please make an official confirmation on that matter, and make it fast.

    – please accept our cards even if you don’t have a psstore for latin america. coudln’t care less where i’m buying stuff from, as long as i’m buying it without having to pay extra for prepaid cards, or using entropay. it’s quite frustrating to have to come here and ask you to allow me to give you my money, really, and i’m pretty sure americans and europeans won’t need all that asking when it comes to their money. (well, maybe europeans will…)

    – some people just don’t get that gaming is a social platform. it’s meant for you to meet people, and it happens to be that some are across your boundaries. some people speak your language, others don’t. regardless, you have to respect everyone. hating other people’s comments because of language won’t make for a better community at all.

  • Excelente! Ya era hora… It was actually kind of sad going to Sony Center (Costa Rica) and seeing absolutely nothing PlayStation-related. Hopefully there will be some PSN support for CR also.

  • Thank’s for every one who work’s in the SONY Playstation division…We Are very exited why a BRAZILIAN PSN ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

    Plooc !

  • Brazil is in South America, not Central America. Though they should bring PS3 to Brazil, anyway.

  • Sony, come to Brazil!

  • +1 brazilian here.
Hope they expand in Brazil with a brazilian PSN and hopefully help to decrease the actual taxes we pay in games.

  • Great to have a fellow Tico working at Sony! this will be good to grow the market in the region. Gracias mae! :D

  • Muchas gracias por incluir Guatemala SONY!!!

    Thanks for including Guatemala SONY!!!!

  • It’s nice to see Sony expanding even in a horrifying Economy that seems to be in the brink of collapse

  • so does that mean if i bought my ps3 in the US i can send it in for repairs in Mexico???

    i hope so.

  • So…this mean that my imported console, can have support now on Latin America?
’cause just before when this happened Sony Mexico wasn’t able to repair your imported console.

  • Moro no Brasil e jogo playstation deste o inicio de 1996. Possuo ps1, ps2, psp e ps3.

“Liz Archibald from sony america updated us on the specific regions, saying, “these countries include argentina, chile, colombia, costa rica, ecuador, el salvador, guatemala, honduras, mexico, nicaragua, panama, peru and venezuela.”

A sony esqueceu do Brasil e dos consumidores brasileiros leais a marca playstation?

    -Sorry the text in portuguese.

  • @Alcala7, no they will not cover a US warranty on any other country. I asked the same thing at the local Sony store in Costa Rica and they told to go [DELETED] myself, if I want it to send my console for repairs I’ll have to pay for everything.

  • E Brasil é com S e não com Z.

  • En Argentina please !!! Store nowwww!!!!. Thank you Sony

  • PURA VIDA A TODOS !!!!

    VIVA SAPRISSA !!!!!

    LA PS3 MORADA !!!!!

  • Well, I’m not surprised Brazil is out. The rampaging piracy that goes on around here is more than enough a reason for Sony not to want to have any business here.

It’s only unfortunate for us (honest) Brazilians to have to keep either importing games and consoles or buying them for outrageous prices on local retail.

  • When are you going to start producing PS2s in Brazil? It was supposed to happen this Spring.

    see ya

  • I just can’t believe that Brazil is out of the list!
    WTF

  • arriba! arriba!

  • Well, I hope the feedback will be good, because, right now, Mexico has PSN, but it sucks. The mexican Store is just patetic, and I cant even play some games online like Soul Calibur IV, WipEout HD, etc. What is even worse, is that we mexicans can only buy on the mexican PS Store with a PSNCard that are only avaliable on the capital city (Mexico City). Osea WTF, that is just patetic, we can’t use credit or debit cards, and the only way to buy in the Store is living in the capital city! Have I mentioned that the content is extremely poor and it updates like once a month?

Oh, and by the way, we DONT HAVE HOME!

I really will be grateful to Sony if they just gives full-quality content to Mexico and Latin America, like Microsoft with Xbox Live is doing.

Really, I would like you Mark Stanley to read this topic on a mexican magazine forum:
    http://foros.atomix.vg/showthread.php?t=190625&page=41

Please read this reply someone made on the topic above:

“Hola que tal brot..No brot no acepta ninguna tarjeta, por que supuestamente por los fraudes que hay en Mexico y porque le valemos madre a sony de mexico”

    Sad.

Thanks a lot for reading my post and hope this time is for real!

  • Hey sirwhiteout, have piracy on the PS3?

I bet that Brasil has sold more playstation that all other Latin American countries which will receive support from sony.

And Brasil suffers from piracy just because it is very difficult to find games for lack of support of Sony.

  • C’mon.
Since ps1 i have to buy products from you illegay and you want me to be happy?!
I have PS1(the first model), PS2(the first model), PSP(the first model) and PS3.
my used psp was, that days, U$500… A USED ONE!
my ps3, that here is “cheap”, cause is the only one doesn’t have official support, and, warranty, was U$750
    Do you think it’s fare?!
    a game is about U$120!

    I’m a “Sonysta”.
Here, they call like this people who loves sony, despite their product’s high price.
Even my tv, camera recorder, dvd burner, to name a few, are Sony branded.

    I love you, guys.
    So, we want good news.
And my PS3 that doesn’t have any kind of warranty here?

Nintendo have products here legally since N64, despite GC wasn’t supported.
Here we have the 3-years warranty for the X360.
From you, what people like me, who support you since the begining will get?
    Love?
    I don’t think so…

I think we’ll get even higher prices for your products and total desrespect with the ones who had to get your products illegaly, so that we could support and enjoy you a little.

    Hope i’m wrong.

  • of course we have to accpect the piracy.
We can’t afford the abuseve price tag that they want we to pay.
Here have a loooooot of taxes on that prices.
Onlye Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo together can solve this…

So, i think we will never see this..
