Live from E3: Sony Press Conference

Here we are: The Main Event. Starting at 11am (Pacific, 7pm BST), we’ll be live blogging the PlayStation E3 Press Conference right here in this space. The questions, the predictions, the rumors – all will be answered soon!

To make things quicker (and to prevent you from having to refresh the page), we’ll be using CoverItLive, just like our live chats with developers. However, unlike those chats, we’re turning off the comments pane to keep things focused on the course of events. Of course, we value your feedback – and so please use the comments area below, like with any other blog post.

Ugh… terrible showing… Nintendo was better in my opinion, although Microsoft blew both of ’em out of the water.

They didn’t answer my main question about PSP Go. I want to know how I can put my UMD games on the new system. Maybe typing serial numbers into the PSN store, or possibly ripping them to your PC.

If it turns out that you can’t do either of those things, then I’ll be very frustrated that I chose to buy Patapon 2 on UMD. But then again it was cheaper on disc for some reason so it seemed like a no-brainer at the time.

Overall I think they did alright, but the problem was they didn’t show anything we didn’t already know about. Not that it was their fault that it got leaked but anyway. Finally, I think their motion controller is less fancy looking than Microsoft’s, but is far more practical and less likely to mess up. Probably far cheaper too.

Hmmm… Better than Nintendo’s offerings, a bit underwhelming compared to Microsoft’s. I am not much of a portable gamer, and I could care less about motion controls / camera peripherals and all that.

The Last Guardian, God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank, the new Rockstar game, and Mod Nation Racers are the exclusive titles I am most looking forward to, but most of them have been revealed already. To sum it up, I didn’t think there were any amazing revelations shown by Sony this year.

It was a good conference. A little heavy on PSP, which I understand, but still…

If only they could have gotten Kojima-san to spill a little more about MGS:Rising…

Worst Sony E3 conference ever, how the hell do you guys think you won, when we just lost the exclusivity of MGS and it wasnt even mentioned it would be going to PS3… so probably an XBOX360 exclusive, and what we show to fight that is a [DELETED] MGS for psp?

Then want to compete with that motion system vs project natal?

And they didnt show 1 single game that is new, only showed games ppl already knew about, didnt show any new game.

You guys lost the exclusivity of Tekken, Final Fantasy and now MGS and its gonna be XBOX360 exclusive and no MGS for PS3 just for the [DELETED] PSP that no ones gives a [DELETED] about.

You guys definetly pissed me off and i realize now ive wasted 500$ for nothing since all the games i was expecting Playstation just lost them all.

I hope Sony goes bankrupt just because of your stupidity of thinking a [DELETED] MGS on psp can compete with Metal Gear Solid Rising going for XBOX360, [DELETED] dumb ass’s that dont care nothing about the fans of the games.

i really enjoyed the conference…ff14 surprised me…i hope it’s free but i doubt it lol…i really liked the motion sensor gadget…oh man…go SONY! I caught it all on G4…but thanks Jeff for your coverage as well…I was going back and forth!!! woot!!!

Sony just pulled off the most EPIC OWNAGE in console history.

To have Kojima come out on stage and completely disown and bad mouth that stupid Raiden action game as not being a real Metal Gear Solid title in front of the entire gaming world and gaming press!

OMG!

What else did Microsoft have? Crackdown 2 exclusive? LOL! Some map packs as exclusives? LOL!

Oh yeah and more of ‘teh Halo’ LOL!

Total Sony domination. 20 insanely talented first party developer studios just showed off their power. Compared to Microsoft’s pathetic 3-4 first party studios, Microsoft has nothing but DLC and multiplatform garbage to hype.

That is a ton of new new games to be released. I have no idea how I will be able to set aside enough time to play all the games I want to. But I guess that is a good problem to have!

Anyone catch the **JAB** at **MS** about **NOT HAVING A TRIGGER TO PULL JUST WOULDNT FEEL RIGHT** when it came to the motion sensor portion of the presentation…i laughed pretty hard at that (DELETED), its tru too…i want a button to push…and the 1st person shooting was crazy, as well as the bow and arrow that is perfect comp for wii and ms…sony always wins…loved e3…

Guys, chill out. MGS: Rising is slated to release for the PS3, 360, and PC. Also, don’t think the game will rock with just 9GB of space. Hope it either comes out on BluRay for the PS3 and a spanned 6 DVD set for the 360, because if the 360 is the limiting factor, the game will suck compared to MGS4. Also, Kojima and his team just spent every last waking moment learning how to pump the most of of the PS3 as possible, they aren’t going to throw that away. Watch, they will code for the PS3 and port to the 360.

@ 319: Dude, it’s ONE MGS game, ONE! Who gives a (DELETED)? Seriously, we still have MGS 4 and the PSP one. One game does not make up an entire loss for Sony, stop whining.

Motion system vs. Natal, the Sony Motion System is far more advanced motion sensitivity wise, and has a lot more potential, thought Microsoft has Milo, which is the only good thing I see from Natal so far.

And again, only ONE Final Fantasy went to 360, FF14 is a PS3 exclusive, stop whining. Again, one game does not equal an entire loss.

And they did announce a lot of games that weren’t expected, or heard of. And even if they were heard of, doesn’t mean they’re not good.

In my opinion, Sony slaughtered Microsoft with their unveilings. Nintendo did the worst, obviously.

(Sony beats Microsoft because Microsoft released close to NO exclusives, seriously. 360 fails this year. They need to come up with original games and end the damn Halo Series.)

Kudos Sony. They basically put to shame all the developments and devices on the other consoles. My mouth was wide open during the GOW 3 demo. Amazing.

“9GB of space”

Microsoft wishes they had 9gigs, the POS Xbox 360 only has 7gigs per DVD of usable space.

That’s 1.5 gigs smaller than the PS2 and Xbox have. What a pathetic joke.

One of the big reasons Xbox 360 graphics look so bad.

Kojima came out on stage and effective said “don’t bother buying this MGS: Rising garbage, I don’t have anything to do with it”

Epic ownage of Microsoft. Total humilation.

FF14 wont come out for another 4 years if we’re lucky. At least add some PSN updates. People have been wanting Voice chat forever. I’m just saying at least come up with something great for E3. its the biggest show all year. Game play or a image of Agent would have been nice. The only game that was cool i didn’t know about was the Kart game almost everything else people knew about or was leaked like the PSP Go. Home was suppose to have video sharing and Sony took it out and now M$ is beating them to it. I wanted to see more updates for the system is what I guess I was trying to get at.

I want to know what the deal is with the streaming music video service. For some reason, whenever you go to the PS Store and try to preview a show/movie, it ALWAYS plays with a terrible audio delay compared to what’s on screen. If 30 sec-1 minute clips can’t stream clearly, then how the hell are you going to watch music videos? A 3 minute song will have about a 20 sec delay vs. the image on screen and that is NOT COOL. Some work has to be done on that video part before introducing more things that will have the same problems occur.

I thought the modracer game looked kinda dumb, I hope you can change the type of vehical your tracks race with, like airplanes and stuff, and you could dig tunnels through your mountains.

Also if you could make your own weapons, then this game would be something more interesting, and I might purchase.

But great job sony. you rocked out the show (hanna montana, woo!!)
