Lost Planet 2 on PS3: The 1st Interview

Jeff Rubenstein's Avatar Posted by Sr. Social Media Manager

You might not have caught this juicy tidbit among the many announcements at yesterday’s PlayStation E3 Press Conference, but Capcom’s Lost Planet 2 is confirmed to be hitting the PLAYSTATION 3. From what I’ve seen of the game thus far, this is a very good thing. Capcom’s Frank Filice tells us more:

It definitely looks as if Capcom is set to wipe away the bad taste that the first Lost Planet left in some PS3 gamers’ mouths. 4-player co-op and visuals that seem to outstrip the already-impressive Resident Evil 5 are a good start.

I’ve extracted a promise from Mr. Filice to have more on this game as we get closer to its 2010 launch.

HAHAHAH! Nice! Jeff complained about the first game. Thank you! The online of the first game sucked so bad. I spent most of my time in the lobby only to play 3 minutes of multiplayer then lobby again.

I don’t know if you’re going to be doing interviews with the PSP Go people, but if you do, can you ask if we will be able to digitize our currently owned UMD games to put on our PSP Go?

I plan on selling my PSPs when PSP Go is released, so I want to know if my games are going to be useless or not when that happens.

Sad part about this interview is that Frank tells us that Capcom listened to gamer feedback on Lost Planet 1, but the truth is alot of that feedback should have NEVER HAPPENED. There was so much wrong about that game that anyone with half a brain wouldn’t have done what they did.

If anything I don’t think I’d be happy without an apology for what they did to us.

Anyway hopefully capcom will adopt a “No larger than 500 megs” install policy for this game. I don’t mind installs, I love them, as long as they give me a performance edge over the competition and are optional.

I may do all the optional installs on my games, but that is for added benefit. I don’t like toting a game over to a friends place only to have to spend a half hour waiting as opposed to playing the game.

Anyway looking forward to seeing Capcom’s next foray into the co-op … genre? I think it’s time for a distinction here, but definitely will keep an eye this.

The PSN Store has been renovated. I like the new look.

So excited this is coming PROPERLY to the PStriple.
I absolutely ADORED LP1 on 360 (when I still had a 360) and was pretty sad about how it turned out on PS3 as I was fully ready to rebuy it.

Can’t wait!

@Frank Filice

One more thing, but at you directly Frank:

Lock: Copying Prohibited

is completely unacceptable, make the saves tied to the users PSN account. For information on how to do this speak with Insomniac’s Resistance 2 team, they implemented this and the save is unusable anywhere beyond my account. Namco’s Soul Calibur 4 team did this as well.

Locking the save does us no good and puts us in a world of trouble if our systems are serviced. As sony almost NEVER gives us our system back. There’s other reasons behind this request.

Jeff, really appreciate the work you’re putting in, sincerely. You definitely have a strong journalistic streak in you. What I would like to know is there any content for the game that will be exclusive to the PS3.
Thanks in advance

I AGREE 100%

JEFF you there?????????

I cant imagine what will happen to me if I lose my SF4 hard trials progress, AGAIN!!!

Glad it’s coming to PS3.

Satan, er I mean Microsoft, did a good job by tricking everyone into believing this was 360 only.

once again E3 09 for SONY was not what I thought I was hoping they would tell us PSP Go! is being advertised to kids along most junk from SCEA press Conference lol & it won’t help with your delays delays! And no information on HOME or IN GAME MUSIC ETC..Shame on you SCEA! What a wasted console with no promises kept the Xbot is going to hurt you Sony and that’s your fault not ours!.You never listen to what we want! IN GAME MUSIC REAL ARCADES Hmm maybe from Japan IN HOME! The JAPANESE IMPORT STORES with Europe ETC..Oh yeah Xii sucks!..Boring concept for Xii the puzzle games could’ve been improved as well as that stupid game Maxuim Tilt!..Oops out of time..Zzz

Looks amazing, Lost planet was one of the first next gen games I played, on the box, and I am really glad it’s coming to the PS3 so I don’t have to go out and purchase that RRod machine again.

Stoffinator said:

June 3rd, 10:17 am

You know Jeff, Sony should give you a raise. You do a better job showing the games and events then their marketing team.

HawkEyes1 said:

June 3rd, 10:17 am

Hmm maybe SCEA should reset the Trophies for people who aren’t getting them like me and update the PSN Network they did for the store but who cares!..FIX YOUR TROPHIES THE SYNCING IS A JOKE.zzz The games that I really I’m thinking about selling is Uncharted, Burnout Paradise, as well as Little Big Planet! Because they don’t give me my much earned Trophies!..

GibbShift said:

Day one purchase on what seems to be a more focused effort on Capcom’s part. Seeing as how SF4 and RE5 are selling better on the PS3 right now, I can understand their need to go ahead and make this a simultaneous console release this time.

I can answer that question: Microsoft Shenanigans. If you watched E3 this year, they had nothing. They fell flat on their faces in an attempt to take a piece out of Nintendo’s casual pie. They tout exclusive content to the high heavens in order to guarantee higher sales on multiplatform titles. It’s quickly becoming their shtick. They just did it recently with With The Ballad of Gay Tony DLC for GTA4. But Sony countered that masterfully with a full exclusive title from Rockstar.

Moneyhats can only take you so far.

x3AM said:

June 3rd, 11:14 am

Same day as 360 version??

LOL why was it even announced as 360 only in the first place??

Giving microsofts history of RIDICULOUS exclusive (DELETED) ,timed demos, timed dlc, I wouldnt be surprised if microsoft paid for exclusive announcing of Lost planet 2 for 360!

Airwalkinman17 said:

YES! YES! YES!!!! This was one of the many anouncements that Mr. Tretton made that made me REALLY EXCITED!!! Thank you CAPCOM for bringing this game over to the PS3. Day 1 purchase for me Please!

Is this game similar to Monster Hunter in forms of questing? Or is Co-op going to be directly connected a storyline of sorts.

Great job Jeff. With this and Ben Judd’s honest approach to PR for Capcom’s games, they are starting to win me back a bit after a disappointing RE5.

Hey Jeff,

Any ideas on what the big “wind-up key” thing is on the character’s back?

And please pressure them for PS3 Monster Hunter 3 (or even Monster Hunter Online from the PC)!

And when can we get an English Ad-Hoc Party on the PSN :(

Thrill_Kill said:

June 3rd, 2:03 pm

Wow, whats this? Capcom is finally done spitting in the faces of their fans that made them popular all these years? I’m shocked!

Hopefully they can give us a good version that is as good as the lower common denominator console with no installs this time around. But knowing Capcoms bad recent history, somehow I doubt its going to happen.

Here is hoping they get it right this time around. I wont hold my breath though. Capcom has lost most of my respect this generation, and that is why I didn’t buy RE5 Collectors Edition.

Anyways, good interview Jeff. :)

I thought at E3 Scea would announce a new firmware update including a Music Video Service and Probably the most asked for feature for the past two years! that is of course IN-GAME CHAT but No that as far as i know that hasnt happened. The way i see it, we players and Sony fans are being ignored. Please add the feature of In-Game Chat.

But after seeing the game footage from this interview… it looks interesting! Definately something to look out for!

Thanks Jeff!

sazzrah said:

June 3rd, 4:48 pm

If this has been asked, I apologise. My question would be is there any plans for DLC and if so are PS3 owners likely to get shafted as they so often do by third party developers by making it exclusive to another plaform only?

Thanks, Jeff.

June 3rd, 5:47 pm

So this one has online with PSN…right…right?

Drackir said:

June 3rd, 6:00 pm

So is the co-op online as well as split-screen or one or the other? LAN?
Looks pretty good, I wish there were more games out that actually thought about multiple players for co-op campaign.

Hey Jeff did you find out if there is going to be Damage modeling in GT5? the trailer has a few frames of what looks like damage but I would like to know for sure.

Btw great interview.

June 3rd, 8:01 pm

Hey dude, what does this mean with the “robotic arm” and “staying alive” now? Since its not cold, does this mean there is no more need for that plasma sucking heater on your wrist? I hope so, it was so annoying. Anyway, great job for online co-op. It is always fun to destroy giant monsters with friends.

fleinn said:

June 3rd, 9:59 pm

Haha. I enjoyed that so much. :D

..I mean, but it’s good work. Proper concise questions, and both the game and the publisher comes out better for it in the end (as long as they can answer, of course).

ydobp said:

Great job Jeff!
It would be interesting to hear about third parties view of why they donĀ“t take advantage of the bluray? Will they do that in the future (more content?) or do we have to accept that so many third party games only last like 5 hours today?
