Heavy Weapon – Coming to PSN Today!

Michael Santora's Avatar Posted by Associate Producer, PopCap Games

Heavy Weapon01

Hey everyone, I’m Michael Santora, an Associate Producer from PopCap Games, bringing you all of our titles in association with Sony Online Entertainment. So far, the response to our classic titles, Zuma and Bejeweled 2, has been fantastic, so we’re excited to bring you another favorite, Heavy Weapon.

Having grown up on classic arcade shooters and original game consoles, Heavy Weapon holds a special place in my heart. It’s a true shooter game that always reminds me of my youth, pumping quarters into machines at the local arcade. Heavy Weapon was originally developed on the PC for Windows, but it’s now found a home on the PLAYSTATION 3. The DUALSHOCK analog sticks give moving & shooting in independent directions a more arcade-like feel. Playing survival mode online or locally with your friends is a great way to earn the “Survive 12 Minutes” Trophy. Multiplayer mode lets you play with up to 3 other people so you can play with old friends or new ones!

Heavy Weapon02 Heavy Weapon04

Heavy Weapon fans can enjoy a new feature created exclusively for the PS3, which is the ability to shoot down and destroy the supply helicopter as it delivers power ups to you. It makes some of the later levels a bit more challenging since you have to pay more attention to your allies while you’re shooting down everything else in the sky.

That’s all for now. We’re working on bringing you Peggle and Feeding Frenzy 2 before the year is out, so keep an eye out for those! I can’t give away much about Peggle, but I think it’s going to be really cool.

Almost two years ago, Sony was having trouble getting awesome games on the the PlayStation 3. Now, they’re coming out of nowhere!

If only they could tell us about some of the stuff they plan on doing with the PS3 FW… tisk, tisk…

ROLO_ONFIRE said:

June 11th, 7:47 am

no try no buy :P I need a demo, I don’t want to end up again with an awful game like PoP Classic.

Mike_Feith said:

June 11th, 7:48 am

A demo HAHAHAHA, its a side-scroller game, and most PSN games have in game music. Should be cool.

I played this on the XBOX 360 when it came out. This is a fun shooter, easy to pickup and play. As long as trophy support is there and it is priced around $4.99 I would definitely pick this up. This is retro classic arcade fun – even manic with 3 player online.

The graphics and sound are satisfying, all you need are the two dualshock analog sticks and a trigger for smart bomb.

@14
IGX Music is a myth, it doesn’t exist! Let go of this cause.

*secretly shuts off his PS3 which is currently using the feature for one of his games*

There’s no IGX Music here……

Looks intriguing…

I’ve never played any of the original games, but I might be convinced to purchase this if there were a demo. But, seeing how both Bejeweled 2 AND Zuma had a demo, I’m confident that Heavy Weapon will have a demo as well.

So, I just might be getting this! :P

PopCap: Please, please, please bring us InsaneAquarium at some point. I know it wont be in this years batch, but maybe more classic PopCap games could be on the way for next year?

InfinityDevil said:

June 11th, 8:24 am

Leaderboards? Friend List Learderboards?

I’ve played this on an Xbox 360 and it’s a fun game. I’ll read a couple of reviews and read up on it online before taking the plunge.

Oh that and my Yellow Light of Death’d PS3 needs to be fixed by the repair shop the replacement warranty corp has currently sitting on it untouched for 8 days now.

I plan on picking this up. Thanks for the port. Is there any chance of having online co-op? As great as have local multiplayer, this game would add alot of replay value with online co-op.

dsigns209 said:

Looks like Metal Slug. Glad they added online multiplayer.

Tikicobra said:

June 11th, 8:45 am

Isn’t it like 800 MS Points on the 360? If so it should be about $5, right?

LpSquall said:

June 11th, 8:50 am

I misread the post. Thanks for adding online multiplayer. This just became a definite pick up.

This version seems like it will be even better than the PC version. I got Heavy Weapon free when I pre-ordered Plants vs Zombies on Steam, and both are AMAZING games.
