Coming to PlayStation Home: New SOCOM Space, Ghostbusters Apartment, EA SPORTS Complex Update + More!

Greetings Home-boys and Home-girls!

To say we have a pretty massive update coming for all of you this Thursday, June 18th would be the understatement of the week. To start, we’ll be unleashing the long-awaited SOCOM Tactical Operations Center space. This space is the first installment of a two-part SOCOM Home hub (the second highly interactive space – OPFOR – will follow the TOC shortly) that is the ideal 3D locale for the huge SOCOM community to meet up and socialize. At this new SOCOM strategy post, you will be able to plot the next course of action with your friends by gathering around the Telestrator tool and coordinating your next assault. Chock full of maps and modes from SOCOM: Confrontation, the Telestrator is a powerful tool that the Home community can use to collaborate, strategize, and enhance their gameplay experience. On top of this, the TOC boasts a regional leaderboard that pulls data from the SOCOM site and updates Career stats (such as all-time ranking, kills, deaths, and kills/deaths ratio) in real-time. And in an imminent refresh of the TOC you’ll also be able to purchase a slew of related virtual items to decorate your avatar with. So if you like to sport the Military chic look you’ll have to make a point to stop on by and load up on bandoliers, balaclavas, and other assorted tactical outerwear.

Also coming to the world of PlayStation Home this week is our first foray into movie and game-themed personal spaces. All of you virtual Egons will be overjoyed to find a Ghostbusters Firehouse personal space available for purchase. This 3-floor space comes jam-packed with tons of furniture and assorted decorations at no additional charge (including your very own Ecto-1). We hear that the basement’s ghost containment unit might have accidentally leaked a poltergeist or two, so you’ll have to keep an eye open for supernatural activity. Lucky for you, the Ghostbusters Firehouse comes with full Loot Stage Set functionality (including move props and portable blue screens) so you can stage your own Ghostbusters machinima. And as a token of our infatuation with the Ghostbusters franchise, we’re giving away free t-shirts that commemorate the 25th anniversary of Slimer hitting the silver screen. So be sure to log in and load up on all the goodies while the gettin’ is there to be gotten.

Electronic Arts is also freshening up their hugely-popular EA SPORTS Complex with additional Racing tracks, a leaderboards, Racing Boost Shop, and Poker updates (including bracelets for the ladies). The as-of-yet-unopened Golf Pro Shop space will temporarily disappear but will reappear and launch within a short time, so have no worries. All in all, this is a pretty significant update to the Complex, so if you haven’t been over for a while, this Thursday would be a dang fine time to drop on by.

We’re also bringing you some more game-related virtual items (did somebody say Street Fighter IV?!?!), including the free inFAMOUS Cole Costume for all of you that downloaded the demo and played it through to completion. Keep your eye on the official PlayStation Twitter page for more info regarding the awesome updates we have in “store” for you (terrible pun, I know).

To top this all off we have two events running this weekend in addition to the regularly-scheduled Resistance: SRPA Siege and Saturday Night Street Fightin’ game launching events (check the Clubs and Events subforums on the official PlayStation Home messageboard for more details). The first event starts Friday morning and ends Friday night and has something to do with you and your friends going on a scavenger hunt for parts of a secret code scattered throughout Home and the first 100 winners receiving a free download of Bomberman Ultra from the PlayStation Network. The other is scheduled for Saturday night and also involves free stuff, but you’ll have to keep your eyes on the video screens throughout Home between now and then for more details, because my memory is getting a little furry in my old age…

Oh, and by the way, the Killzone 2 Visari’s Throne and the Namco Bandai Museum are indeed coming to SCEA’s version of PlayStation Home. But not this week. You’ll have to keep an eye on the official Blog, forums, and Twitter accounts to stay up to date as to the progress of these spaces. But don’t despair; you can always spend the time between now and then launching into games of Crash Commando with your friends in Home. Don’t believe me? Give it a try…

  • ITS CREATIVE UPDATES LIKE THESE THAT MAKE ME PROUD TO BE A PLAYSTATION FAN. YESTURDAY I TOLD MY CUZIN ABOUT THIS UPDATE IN HOME ..AND HE HAS THE NERVE TO SAY “HE IS NOT THAT IMPRESSED”..AS MUSH AS I HATE THE 360BOX..THERES NOTHING ON IT THAT SO MORE IMPRESSIVE THAN THE PS HOME..NOT TO METNION THAT HE ALREADY GOT THE RROD AND STILL CHOOSES TO STICK TO THE BOX..HOME IS THE FUTURE OF COMMUNITY GAMING..OK THE BOX HAS NETFLICKS AND A FEW BETTER IN-GAME UPDATES BUT THATS IT!..I GUESS IM OVER REACTING BUT MAN..SOME GAMERS JUST DONT KNOW HOW TO APPRECIATE THE BETTER THINGS IN GAMING..ITS SO SAD..ANYWHO..KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK SONY!!IM LOVING THESE AWSOME SURPRISES..KEEP’EM COMING

  • I really want that Bomberman update. That game lookslike hours of fun (and multiplayer!) but the graphics are not very “HD” and I think its more of a 4.999 game than a 9.99 game. How about a summer sale?!

  • Those spaces look insanely hot!

The GB space really shows apartments in the future will be indeed huge and very entertaining spaces. Awesome awesome awesome. Not really a fan of GB any more but pretty cool none-the-less.

  • EA, I wish there was a option in Home to delete space’s we don’t want. Worst 20mb download EVER!! :)

  • Hi,
This is not fair… we want Cole’s outfit for females…!
    Maria…

  • I hate how quiet all the spaces are… they all either need that music player which would be kinda annoying, so they need the voice chat back… maybe if did something like… if you are under 13 or 16 or somethin… you have to agree to something to get the chat feature.

  • Very lame that only those that downloaded the demo get the Cole costume. I for one did download it but did not play it thru. After 2nd mission i was more than convinced to buy the game which i did and i destroyed it. Beat it as Hero and Infamous, with about 85% trophy acquisition rate, and i get jack squat for free! Sense…none here if you ask me.
Other than that its a massive update and i cant wait to check it out!

  • well i look forward to both the infamous and ghostbusters home spaces i own both games and both are freakin sweet! i also look forward to multiplay launching with fellow ghostbusters in the near future.

  • Home HOME houses always appreciated!

  • So can anyone confirm ever receiving the Cole costume? I haven’t seen anyone on Home running around with it yet. I finished the Demo last night, so I’m hoping I’m still eligible to receive the costume. I’m one of those that bought the game and deleted the Demo soon after.

  • Ghostbusters = no buy. Since the PS3 version of the game is messed up I won’t be buying anything Ghostbusters related.

  • I won a game of poker on a full table before they released the bracelets for us girls. I don’t suppose I will get the bracelet unless I win again right?

  • I’m a little disappointed in the quality of the textures and Slimer’s highly repetitive animations in the Ghostbusters space. While it *definitely* looks better than the actual game (which I’m really hoping for a patch to fix the numerous awful graphic issues), I was expecting more detail when I was exploring.

The clippings and notes I can read are amusing, but the others are too blurry. This is my first in-Home purchase and it was a little disappointing. Please fix, thanks :)

  • The costume is live – tested it out 10 minutes ago. You get a bunch of messages when you log in – one for each item.

  • hey why is the e3 AREA is gone i thought it was better then cafe Locust_Star

  • @112 Sony Pictures owns the rights to Ghostbusters. Your boycott should be against Terminal Reality, the developers of the game and not the GB brand. TR is the studio that screwed up on this one.

  • Hey Locust..is there any chance of launching anything UFC related in Home?

  • well i looked all over home and cant find the socom space or the ghost busters apartment (figured it would be in estates hopefully cheaper then the ones in there £3.99 for a virtual space is a little steep!) but i cant find it anywhere, but then the game is only released today so maybe thats the delay, as for the 360 version looking better… whats it matter lol the 360 version aint out till november!

  • I have to say the HOME character animation needs to be updated BADLY! It’s so horrible! Moving around with animations like Nathan Drake or something close to that would make HOME feel a lot less flat and a lot more alive.

  • ghost busters is in the stores today but this stay aint on Home i hope this aint yet another usa only thing (when will sony learn the world is global they have customers everywhere) i bet though this is just like the bomberman thing or the three fists of plastic or any other of a million unique to america deals where sony sticks its finger up at us brits.

  • Has the Bomberman scavenger hunt begin yet?

  • i just DL the Socom home space yesterday, its nice. i’m also waiting on the Fight Night Round 4 space, thats going to be bananas. cant wait, Home is definitely improving.

  • day after ghost busters and its still not there
it is aint it a usa exclusive

we get a free fist of plastic shirt if you can find the person wearing the trousers between two times (times im at work)

you guys get a full ghost busters apartment, machina ready and socom space

    bloody sony

  • When will Bomberman Ultra hit the EU store? Don’t force us to buy yet another game with our American accounts please.

  • WOW!! Sony is literally thrashing down the garbage all over Microsoft, lol, I hate Microsoft!!

  • I hope almost every video game and movie will have its very own spaces, costumes, stuff, furniture or apartment in home!
And I hope they’ll all stay in Home forever.
I don’t really mind about how much things on PlayStation Home costs as long as they are reasonable that is, like apartments being £4.99 or the highest is £19.99.
How about getting Home stuff free with video games : ), not with codes or stuff but if you have a saved block of that in your PS3 System : )

  • SickMinder how do you get an american account? i would love to have all the stuff they get sony eu is kind of a joke, sony: here america heres new spaces new apartments some really good psn games, here uk heres a t shirt

  • Update on Buzz Homespace please. When will it be relaunched?

P.S. If I’m logged into PSN on forums and the switch over to blog, have to log in again. Very annoying. Anyway to synch the two?

  • ok my last post got removed (freedom of speech i guess aint supported by sony) here is it put a bit politer, when will these spaces and apartments be available on the uk verion of home and why does sony hate there uk customers so much?

  • If these spaces included more than just a few different objects, space layouts and textures, it would be worth using HOME. I’m still trying to find a reason to use HOME, even with these space updates.

  • just be thankful you have them its been over a week and we uk users still dont have them or bomberman, its great though all the game sites i go to like gamefaq have adverts up get bomberman NOW on psn etc and they are never there. sony should fire the eu team and have just one network not this stupid two tier method were we get the left overs from the american store

  • wat costume u get for the ghost busters demo or wat ever ur talking about???
