Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This? Available Exclusively via PlayStation Store

Hello everyone,

This is Nao from NIS America, Inc. Today, I’d like to share some exciting news about “Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman!” for PSP with all of you.

NIS America has decided to release Badman exclusively on the PlayStation Network on July 16, 2009. The reason we’re going this direction is because the demo version of Badman on PSN was so surprisingly well received, and we thought Badman would be the perfect title to test the waters of this download-only release opportunity on PSN. Badman is a relatively small title in terms of download size, and with a PSN release we can provide this title to our fans for only $19.99. We hope that you all are happy with this decision :-)

After the launch of the Badman demo, I noticed that some people were a little confused and struggled with the gameplay. Badman has very simple rules, but it is still very challenging. The first couple of stages will be easy to beat, but it gets tougher as you go forward. So, NIS America has created a strategy sharing forum. You can download a dungeon designer program, and then create your perfect dungeon! (To download the dungeon designer program, simply click on “CREATE A DUNGEON MAP” on the right-hand side of the forum page.)

There are some strategies up already, so please visit the dungeon forum if you need some help from fellow Badman fans! Here is one dungeon I created just for fun. It doesn’t help with the strategy, but I just wanted to show how you can make your own dungeon!

Dungeon

When you create the dungeon map, you can export it to a JPG file and save it to your computer. Then e-mail it to badman@nisamerica.com or simply click “SUBMIT A DUNGEON MAP” on the right-hand side of the forum page. Don’t forget to share your strategies and tips!

I hope you guys can connect and help each other kick those heroes’ butts!! :-p

We’ve also come up with some gameplay footage clips, which can be found on the official Badman website. There is only 1 gameplay clip available so far, but more are on their way!

Here is the first stage clip…

Lastly, the cool people over at PluggnPlay.com are holding a contest for Badman. And they have a pretty nice prize, so I hope you guys can check them out and enter the contest to earn an awesome prize!

Omnom

These are OMNOM figures, and just one example of the prizes they are offering. These are made from Pixel Blocks. So cute, right?

I hope you all have fun with the contest!

Thank you for reading my post! I’d really love to reply to all of you. But realistically, I cannot do that. But I will try to reply as much as I can, and as soon as I can! So, please don’t get mad/frustrated/filled with hate if I don’t reply right away… :)

Have a great day!

Best regards,
Nao Zook

  • Man, I was EXCITED about this game. I was going to buy it WITHOUT QUESTION. But you idiots making it download-only killed it for me. I’ll never buy this or anything else that is download-only. I liked Cross Edge a lot, but this is such BS that I may never buy another NIS game.

  • I was hoping for this to happen. Thank you.

  • And to all the dumbasses here saying it’s because we want to resell the game, no, it’s because I want a physical copy of the game on my shelf, in my collection. Not some pathetic little icon on my PS3 or PSP. That, plus I want to be able to play the games I buy forever – not be SOL when Sony is out of the console business and thus I’ve wasted loads of money on digital games.

I don’t sell any of my games. I just want a real copy that’s actually worth paying for.

  • a lot of unwarranted hate here. all of you idiots who are begging for physical umd are clinging to a dying trend.

digital distribution is here and its is here to stay. if this was a PS3 game on the PSN none of you would be complaining at all. UMD is dead, and should never have been used.

look at the success of STEAM on PC. digital distribution is the future and i welcome in wholeheartedly

that being said i will be picking this up even though the demo baffled me on level 3. if we dont support titles like this do you expect them to bring titles to the PSP or PS3 for that matter in the future?

  • @104

Support? Heh, when and if digital distribution finally takes over, I’ll stick to buying only older games. How’s that for support. Any people supporting this are idiotic sheep with absolutely no sense of value or standards.

  • @103:

So having it digital mean you can not keep it forever? Just have a back-up on a PC, external HDD, flash drive or burn it on a disk. You have as equal a chance of loosing a flash drive or an HDD as loosing a UMD, so you shouldn’t be worried about that…

  • Poopookakabumbum

@96 Deleting and censoring posts won’t change the fact that what NIS is doing is WRONG.

@104 If you are happy to bend over and take it from corporations, that’s your business. Some of us know what is worth fighting for.

Once again, the Pro DD crowd offers no alternatives, no solutions, only insults because they can find no good reason to back up their point.

Proving, once again, the FACT that DD is BAD for consumers.

  • @106

Which would mean the more games I buy, the more storage space I have to keep buying, which mean wasting even more money.

  • I definitely enjoyed the demo but i think i’ll pass on the actual game unfortunately. I either dont understand the game enough or am not very good at it, i cant beat the 3rd demo mission no matter what i do.

  • @105

You’re absolutely right, anyone that doesnt have the same opinion as you must be an idiot.

I want everyone to look at comment 105, this is why most states have laws against cousins marrying.

  • I just wanted to say congrats on making this a digital release!

I see a lot of naysayers out there but digital releases are something I’ve been harping on for the psp for quite some time now. Honestly I think for a portable system its the BEST way to handle media.

I would question as to why you didn’t go with both physical and digital release but I’m sure it all comes down to $$$. By going digital only (and w/out in store boxes w/vouchers) you’re SAVING us money! And that is something I am happy about!

Anyways, I hope you read this so you know we don’t all hate digital releases (which I’m sure you don’t). I also wanted to say thanks for all the replies that really cleared things up (esp Desgaea 3 trophies…I haven’t bought the game yet for that very reason but it seems I’ll be picking it up soon now). I also hope to pick up Cross Edge tomorrow when I get my knew paycheck!

  • I was about to say you just lost a sale in going digital. Of course the other day when I went to pre-order Badman and it was nowhere to be found, and after the response I got from NISA support I totally expected this announcement….

For $20 though I might actually snag it… eventually… reason as to eventually and not now. I bought a 4GB stick for PSP 1000 and FFVII was the icing on the cake. Having just bought my fiance a new 4 GB SDHC card because she lost hers (Grr) I’m not interested in buying a new memory card atm. I know Disgaea 2 is too big to pull the plug on the full blown retail release but if you do…. shame. IF all else fails I can always plan on getting Badman this Christmas because there’s no reason not to get a new card then if I haven’t already bought one. ;) keep the GREAT games flowing NISA… :)

  • Poopookakabumbum

    @104 and 109

A lot of unwarranted insults being thrown around by the pro DD side, because they have no facts to back up their claims.

The FACT is that DD is bad for consumers.

  • You guys are being a bit hard on Nao. What’d she ever do to you? Side note: She’s pretty cute, actually :).

And its only 40mb, even on dial up that won’t take all that long. you can have a 64mb card and it’ll fit on it. And if that makes you exceed your download cap you need a new ISP :P. You’re acting like its the first game to EVER be download only. There have been tons of them, on PC and consoles.

  • When is the next Cross Edge DLC comming out!? the 1st 3 DLC didnt feel like a DLC at all…….

  • Down with PSP piracy, UP with digital distribution!

I cant wait untill this is released in the UK.

Also will disgaea 3 trophies be coming to the UK along with its DLC, theres not alot of love for the UK even though theres NIS europe

  • Down with piracy, up with digital distribution!

I cant wait untill this game hits the UK psn store.

Any word of Disgaea 3 trophies hitting the UK along with the DLC.
The UK hasnt been getting alot of love from NIS even though theres a NIS europe.. somethings wrong here :/

  • “That, plus I want to be able to play the games I buy forever – not be SOL when Sony is out of the console business and thus I’ve wasted loads of money on digital games.”

    More ignorance.

Even if we’re invaded by aliens and they destroy the Sony servers with their alien weaponry and confiscate all original copies of the games for their evil galactic mothership, we’d STILL be able to play the games we downloaded because the servers going down are independent of us actually going online and deactivating our systems. In fact, if the servers ever went down due to alien invasion, we couldn’t deactivate our systems even if we wanted to because there wouldn’t be any servers to deactivate FROM. So stop worrying about aliens, you wacko!

    (continued…)

  • Besides, rewritable media is cheap, and can be backed up infinitely, which means it’s SAFER to have it as a download. If the thought of alien invasion makes you incapable of thinking straight (clearly that’s the case here), you can quickly and cheaply burn a DVD with nothing but a single PSN download and make copies for every room in your house. Can you back up your UMDs? No, you can’t. And as far as physical space goes, a single DVD holding at least half a dozen of my PSN downloads takes up less space than a single UMD in a box.

Just remember that the PlayStation brand is synonymous with video games. If the PSN ever goes down and we’re invaded by aliens, WE WOULD KNOW ABOUT IT. Your names would never go away with the flick of a switch, and they couldn’t.

Every time digital distribution comes up, the rude, ignorant, boorish comments always come from the “no UMD, no buy” camp. Clearly not a coincidence.

  • I don’t like where this trend is going. I was hoping that future game releases would be both UMD and download, not download only. While it’s not so big a deal with Badman since the file will be relatively small, this could be a problem for bigger games. You realize that there’s still people out there who don’t have broadband internet, or internet at all, and a box on a store shelf is their only way of getting games. Also, for people without computers or internet access, they won’t even know your download-only game exists in the first place. This decision is limiting your potential audience.

  • Well while I’m not happy there will be physical media for this I’ll try and get it off PSN when I get my PSP in a month. I’m greatly enjoying CrossEdge and hope to see more of your games make it to the PS3. :)

  • Future game releases doesn’t mean ALL game releases would be offered both ways. There are ways to get games over the internet, and theres always the public library system to find out gaming information before you find a wifi-spot to download a title your looking into. You might have to buy a coffee @ Starbucks or burgers @ McDonalds (I know my local McDonalds has wifi) and the only trouble spot would be PSN cards if your that without an internet.

You don’t have to have a big budget for digital distrubtion to work, you just have to start thinking outside the box and if your that much into gaming you’ll find a way.

  • OMG, I swear sometimes the Internet is filled to the brim with mindless losers.

Guys like Popokabumbum or whatever the fack, take the anonymity rule and bend it like rubber, just so you can feel good about yourselves.

I hate to be a jerk, but its not like they intended to take a DD road with this title. Some of you guys sit here and nag and moan, when your not even going to buy the title.

You guys really need to grow up, I wish the internet had an stronger ID system for this kinda crap. Then 100% of you would never do this.

Nao Zook, I understand why you guys went digital only with this title, and I applaud your efforts at bringing an original title like this to the US.

    Thank You.

Also, I’d like to see Atelier Rorona on US PS3’s as well.

  • Poopookakabumbum

    @121

Get off your high horse. I *was* going to buy this game. Same as Patapon 2.

    DD is not acceptable. Period.

  • I mean no offense, but I was SERIOUSLY surprised by how much fun I had with this thing. The visuals are simplistic and the dialogue, while amusing, doesn’t draw forth the image of Shakespeare. But the GAME is so much fun, even with the mere three sections the trial version offers. I have full games on my PSP that have seen less use than this little demo. In a platonic way, I love you guys. Consider me sold on this and Disgaea 4 (*hint* *hint*) (**HINT!!!***) … (***BLATANT HINT!!!!!!!***) =P

  • Awesome news! I can’t wait to download this game. I was a little worried at first with this coming out on UMD. I don’t really like buying UMDs for my PSP. They tend to weigh me down when I go out of town with my PSP.

Don’t listen to the haters, the decision to go DD with the title is appreciated! The funds are in my wallet for this game. Can’t wait. The price is pretty good as well.

I loved the gameplay in this game. It’s an interesting take on all those dungeon crawlers out there. I’ve always felt bad for the demons and monsters in most of the RPGs I’ve played. The bad guys go through all the trouble to make this crazy intricate dungeon, breed horrifying monsters, and hide treasures. Then, some spiky-haired dope comes in and ruins all their plans.

Holy Invastion of Privacy, Badman! is going to be an excellent game. I can’t wait. The demo was amazing.

  • @117

It’s funny, because all the pro DD side ever does is hurl insults. “Crybabies” “Luddites” etc. They have no actual facts to back up their claim as to why DD is better – all they do is hurl insults at the people who want their games on disc.

Pot calling the kettle black? I think so.

As for being able to access your downloadable games on servers forever – what a joke. It is a *fact* that games released as DD are only kept on servers for a limited time. Five years from now, the stuff you buy today will be GONE.

@110 – You are 100% wrong about DD being the best way to distribute media.

@122 – Get off your high horse. I *was* looking forward to this game. Same as I was looking forward to Patapon 2.

DD is killing my interest in new games.

  • Interesting game. If I had a PSP, I would get the game. Looks fun to play. =)

  • “As for being able to access your downloadable games on servers forever – what a joke. It is a *fact* that games released as DD are only kept on servers for a limited time. Five years from now, the stuff you buy today will be GONE.”

Um… you’re not getting it. Once you download it, you can back it up quickly, cheaply, easily, and infinitely. And even if it disappeared from the servers right after I downloaded it, I WOULD STILL HAVE IT!!! And I would still be able to put it back on my memory stick and play it because I DIDN’T DEACTIVATE MY SYSTEM!!!

You know, I’m starting to think the aliens are already here… but they lack the conceptual thinking skills to understand the obvious benefits of digital distribution. No human is this stupid.

  • Oh, and it’s pretty sad that Gumbydunzeeto had to use alternate PSN IDs (Poopookakabumbum, afdgsfdgnb) just to create the illusion that there are stubborn, fanatical, chest-pounding die-hards other than himself who cling to inferior technology and are willing to skip game purchases to prove it.

    Check the IPs, blog admins!

  • Hey, I must say I like what I see here. I’ll pick up Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! as soon as it comes out on psn along with the PSP Go and Last Rebellion.

Also I like to thank NIS is supporting Sony brand (PS3, PS2 and PSP) so well, Honestly, If it weren’t for you guys, I don’t think I would gotten a chance to play Cross Edge, Disgea 3, or Ar tonelico 2: Melody of Metafalica. I wish a certain developer were like u guys, Erm Square Enix, they have yet to release a single game for PS3 Seriously what the heck.

  • Hello i’m a nis america fan! I played and beat almost al your games! I was wondering are they going to make a disgaea fighting game or action rpg game. I heard rumors about it. By the wat do you guys have a playstation network account, i would love to add you. Keep up the good work!

  • I loved the demo for the Japanese version of this game and was really excited when I heard a US version was finally confirmed, I was ready to get it on release day. But now that it’s become a download only title I’m going to have to skip it. For one, in my opinion, $20 is too much for a download title. I also can’t spare any space on my memory stick for the game. I skipped Patapon 2 for the same reasons. I only hope that after October 1st when Sony allows for same day UMD and PS Store released for PSP games we get UMD versions of this and Patapon 2 in the US. If not I might just have to import, which I’d rather not do since I like supporting PSP releases in the US.

  • I just got done beating this game. It was really fun. I enjoyed playing the guy who gets to defeat the bad guys.

  • i mean good, lol

  • I looooooved the demo for this game, though I wish the price was something closer to $14.99. $19.99 feels like asking for a bit much, even if there are precedents. Regardless, definitely looking forward to it.

By the way, will Nippon Ichi be looking to localize Infiniteloop for US shores? I had a backlog of PSP demos on my PS3 that I recently burned through, and Infiniteloop stuck out as seeming really interesting. I don’t understand a lick of Japanese, but I’d love to play this game and fully understand what’s going on.

Are there any plans to release Infiniteloop in English?

  • whats wrong with digital distrubution for games that are smaller in size.

the games 40mb for god sake so it be a bit of a waste of a umd anyway.

as someone who constantly gets games off the psn i must say i love digital distrubution(i have 64 ps3 ps store games and 22 ps1 classics)

for all the people complaning about this get a grip, its not hard to get games off the psn you dont need a credit card you can use your banks debit card you know and they do sell psn cards if you dont have either a debit or credit card

  • @133

The size of the game is not the point.

THE GAME NEEDS TO COME ON A DISC TO BE WORTH OWNING.

How hard is this to get through your thick skull?

  • okay for those complaining about the game being DD calm down and get over it. so NIS made one mistake BIG FREAKIN DEAL!!. they still have a whole bunch of great titles and missing out on one of them isn’t gonna kill you. if you guys hate DD so much then don’t buy the game and stop complaining. Nao i apologize for the rude comments some of the users made towards you. i hope you come back to the ps blog again. as for me im looking forward to playing the demo when i get the psp go!. oh and im still playing cross edge and disgaea 3. thx for bringing some of the awesome rpgs to the states. i hope you guys will bring more. oh and are you guys making another disgaea game because i would really love to see a disgaea 4.:)

  • It’s not about ease of getting it. It’s all about principle. The bulk of what we pay for games is from manufacturing them and this would be $20 regardless of whether its on UMD or not cause it obviously didn’t take much money to develop it.

DD is good for developers because it saves them money. We as the consumer will never see a penny of these savings passed on to us.

Theres freedom in physical media that you don’t see…its yours, you can do whatever you want with it, you can take it to a friends house who already has the system so you don’t have to lug your whole system around and risk damaging it, you can loan it to a buddy, you can give it to your little brother as a gift when you’re done playing it (which is what I did with most my ps2 collection when I got my PS3), if you are short on cash you can sell it at a yard sale or if your buddy has a game you want and you have one he wants you can trade, if your system gets bricked and you have to get a new one you can just pop it right in and play not wait hours or even days to download it again depending on the size of the file, and what about limited editions? those will be a thing of the past.

  • Can you do a single one of those things with a digital copy? The answer is H*LL NO.

If Digital distribution takes over…you can kiss all those things goodbye and any other freedom you have over what you paid for.

Because of that I will NEVER support digital distribution.

  • Interesting that the most violent-sounding posters here don’t even have avatars – it’s as though they quickly and thoughtlessly created new PSN IDs *just* to complain on this blog.

Pretty obvious that afdgsfdgnb = Poopookakabumbum = Gumbydunzeeto, and god knows who else. I guess when no one else is this crazy, you gotta create more user IDs to try to appear less crazy…

  • Can you do a single one of those things with a digital copy? The answer is H*LL NO.

If Digital distribution takes over…you can kiss all those things goodbye and any other freedom you have over what you paid for.

Because of that I will NEVER support digital distribution..

Sorry if this is a double post. It didn’t show up so I’m posting it again

  • Excellent post, chargercuda.

  • Hard copies are good for scam artists because as games get older, harder to find, and in poorer condition, the game prices still skyrocket. We as the consumer will hardly ever get a good deal passed on to us.

There’s freedom in digital distribution that you don’t see… it’s yours, you can do whatever you want with it, you can let your friend use your ID because up to 5 systems at a time can play downloaded games for the price of one, you can let your older brother as a gift play your downloaded games as well (which is what I did with my downloaded PS3 games when he got a second PS3), your games can never get lost or stolen so you don’t have to worry about losing them at a yard sale or if your buddy has a game you want and you have one he wants you can trade PSN IDs, if your system gets bricked and you have to get a new one you can just copy from one of the many backups you made and not wait hours or even days to download it again depending on the size of the file, and what about paying more for essentially the same thing in a shinier box? Those will be things of the past.

  • Can you do a single one of those things with a hard copy? The answer is H*LL NO.

If Digital distribution goes away… you can kiss all those things goodbye and any other freedom you have over what you paid for.

Because of that I will MOSTLY support digital distribution.

Sorry if this is a double post. It didn’t show up so I’m posting it again

  • Very happy with this decision! I’m glad NIS is showing initiative and committing to digital distribution.

I’m an Australian consumer, will this be a worldwide release? If so, I’ll be picking it up day 1!

  • yea let them download off your account? sounds like gamesharing to me which is against the ToS. And trade them your ID? and lose access to everything else you bought for one game plus your trophies stats and everything else? and how do you give your brother a digital game without giving them the whole system or your ID?

Wow what a stupid response. LOL wow that made me laugh.

  • OMG, there are two PS3s in the house and my brother and I are gamesharing, as was even encouraged by Jack Tretton himself. It would have been against the TOS if I asked total strangers just to scam Sony out of free games.

Yeah, just sign in on their system (no need to save your password). If these people are really your friends and relatives, then what’s the harm? They’re not total strangers. No fuss, no muss, and you wouldn’t lose your trophies, stats and everything else – I don’t know WHERE you got that idea.

Wow what a stupider response. LOL wow you made me laugh.

  • SCEA have decided to make this a PSN exclusive. possibly not SCEE.. hmm?

Patapon 2 was released in other countries on umd, so if you want this awesome game (i got addicted to the japanese demo last year :D ) you should be able to import.. yay!

Note – Patapon 2 was released at a much higher price here, so don’t be expecting no $20 business.
