Killzone 2 DLC #3 – “Napalm & Cordite” (and flames and bolts)

Hello there PlayStation Blog! It’s good to be back. And it’s even better to be back with some exciting news for you guys. There is a new DLC pack incoming, called Napalm & Cordite. It has flames and bolts will fulfill the wishes of many of our weirdest fans. There will be more info on that next week, for now let’s focus on the patch.

As with any good DLC, it needs a great patch. We’ve been scouring the forums, stopping and interrogating you in the streets and using futuristic mind-reading technology* to find out what you wanted changed in Killzone 2 and have done our best to try and accommodate that with our patches. So it is time for the latest and greatest update to come to Killzone 2, imaginatively titled: Patch 1.28. (How we come up with these snappy names I’ll never know)

So without further ado, here is the official press-release with the list of new features and fixes for you to go through and discuss further. I’ll be hanging around the comments section for a wee while, so feel free to ask any questions you might have regarding the below, or anything Killzone related.

On Tuesday, June July 14th 2009 at 8AM Greenwich Mean Time, Guerrilla Games will release the 10th update for the visceral shooter, Killzone 2.

Patch 1.28 will be 91MB in size (316MB for Asian release) and will be released worldwide simultaneously pending a server update. There will be an anticipated server down-time of about 2 hours while the patch is rolled out and the server updates are completed and tested. The following fixes and features are included in this latest release:

  • Feature – Code support for DLC pack III “Napalm & Cordite”. The update will enable players to create games with the newest maps “Suljeva Cliffside” and “Arctower Landing”
  • Feature – Code support for DLC to allow the additions of the Flamethrower and the Boltgun to multiplayer.
  • Trophies – New trophies added for DLC pack III “Napalm and Cordite”.
  • Feature – Detailed information screen when browsing games. Items displayed include: Friendly Fire, Faction Balancing, Custom Weapons and Custom Badges as well as the region, game size, selected maps and allowed Missions and Badges.

  • Feature – Higher values for Bodycount mode. Players can now create games with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 50, 100 and 200 points to increase the time of the mode for 32 player games.
  • Feature – Moderators can now create double-points events.
  • Fix for persistent squads now working correctly when users using separate Japanese accounts join Friends.
  • New loading screens.
  • Moderation – Additional powers and functionality for online moderators.
  • Fix for Clan Leader leaving his clan before an active Tournament of Clan Challenge.
  • Fix for score replication on different clients.
  • Fix for a Clan Challenge results displaying a won/lost games as a ‘Draw’.
  • Fix for incorrect Tournament timings being displayed for (semi)-final.
  • Fix for an empty message pop-up being displayed.
  • ‘High Precision Mode’ now defaulting when requested.
  • Fix for stuttering audio on the Asian version.
  • Fix for network error displayed when trying to log in with another users account.
  • Fix to reduce network traffic and improve performance.
  • Fix for occasionally being displayed an empty background when ‘Join Friend’ via Communications tab.
  • Exploit – Pyrrhus Rise map boundary fix.
  • Exploit – Radec Academy collision fix to prevent players being revived inside a pillar and using it to their advantage.
  • Cosmetic fix for Medic Gun visual effects.
  • Cosmetic fix for Search & Retrieve object being cloaked by the Scout.
  • Cosmetic fix for Scouts body remaining cloaked after being mortally wounded (i.e. headshot).
  • Gameplay – Damage from Sentry bots tweaked back on request of the community.
  • Collection of minor code fixes.

For the latest new content, news and all things Killzone, visit which will also reflect the changes made to the game such as being able to view Battle Replays of games played out on the new maps or being able to use the new settings to create Clan Challenges or Tournaments. Further features and fixes to include:

  • Feature – Tournaments – Full tournament functionality enabled once again.
  • Feature – Upcoming Tournaments are now displayed in a clan’s calendar.
  • Feature – Upcoming Tournaments are now displayed in My Killzone upcoming events.
  • Feature – Upcoming Tournaments are now displayed in clan communication center.
  • Feature – Tournament and Clan Challenge support for DLC Pack III “Napalm & Cordite”.
  • Feature – Additions of sounds in Battle Replays.
  • Feature – Additional animations in Battle Replays.
  • PlayStation®3 landing page updated.
  • Higher selectable Bodycount values when creating Tournaments or Clan Challenges via
  • Various bug-fixes and minor updates.

Sorry dude, you have to be in the top percent (1, 3, 6, or 10) at the end of the week to get the valor ribbon. The week starts Sunday at Midnight GMT.

I finally got my 1% last week and I earned about 7500 points. 6500 or so should be sufficient though. Good luck!

@ Sparda:
I totally agree with regards to sentry bots, they are much better now then they were before. I won’t be too upset no matter what Guerilla does as I don’t think this is a gamebreaking issue but I do like they way the bots are now. Anyway, hit me up if you wanna play sometime.

That is a lot but… as much as you say you look at what we want it amazes me that there still isn’t a proper party system. You even said you were going to add party like features which you did but why didn’t you add an actual party system??? It looks like you all want a party system so were going to add something similar but not a party system, why would we do that? But never the less it’s a great update, hopefully one of these days we’ll get a proper party system…

We *absolutely need* to see the maximum game time. Sometimes I just need a 30 mins of kz2, and I have to join and quit many servers because the missions are too long. Please add the game length to server view!!!

Jumping the gun here, but I’m hoping for some Killzone 3 news, like maybe next E3. It would be very very cool to be able to play as a Helghast soldier and view the story from their red-eyes. :) Or maybe make this as a DLC pack, similar to what Rockstar did with their DLC… expand on the story, but from another character’s point of view. That kind of DLC for the single player campaign would entice those of us to buy who isn’t into the multiplayer.

Any words on DLC for the Exoskeleton and Teslite grenades?? If that ever happens for us……Hope so :)

I have one request for a fix from GG, and that is remove the save game lock flag on the single player data file. Its preventing users from backing up their save manually. If a user has to get a PS3 “replaced” from Sony, they will not be able to get their campaign data back even with the import utility.

I have a question about the killzone website. Not all of the matches I’ve been in have been showing up on the battle replay (including the matches I’ve been winning in). When are you guys gonna fix that?

This seems like a nice DLC, all those maps add to the variety of the multiplayer, and I might get them at some point, but what about co-op? this is what I’m really missing in this game, I have to admit I’m still enjoying the game as it is, though I bet co-op mode will make it a whole lot of better game experience, and not to mention will boost the replay value of this game.

A DLC bundle would be SWEETTT. I am sure many KZ2 fans are yet to buy any DLC so why not make a bundle of three. They got something similar to this with MGO expansions.

Oh and btw GG, you have done a GREAT… no wait, a FABULOUS job with KZ2 and the KZ support. Just so to let you know, since the day I inserted that disk in my PS3, it hasn’t left it. Yes, really, I am a HUGE sucker for KZ2! IT ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

As long as the bots maintain their accuracy, I do not mind the reduction in damage dealt by them (accuracy is the real indicator of threat level – which was why the air support bot was deemed virtually useless by many players pre-V1.27).

Looking forward to the update and the new maps – all 6 of them in a discounted bundle, hopefully :) .

this has got to be one of the worst shooters ever that gets attention it doesn’t deserve from one of the most untalented studios in the industry. I’m just saying how I feel. I mean it’s on a console so it’s already bad but the rough start it had and promises made that were never kept… It’s just horrible. Not worthy of any attention it gets.

Iam so sick and tired of people whinging about the spawn grenade spawn point. This is an advantage for your team to spawn close to the target – there should be NO invulnerability time for spawning on these grenades (like GG recently fixed). There are two ways for you to not get spawn killed:


As a side note: The placing of these spawn grenades is extremely tactical. The areas where they are placed become a mini battle-zone (each side fighting for control). To all spawn grenade tactictians out there:

1. THINK ABOUT WHERE YOU ARE PLACING THIS EXTREMLY IMPORTANT TACTICAL ITEM (Ive seen many battle lost/won becuase of bad/good spawn point placements.

Remember, it is a LUXURY to be able to spawn in the middle of the battle (or right on the target), not a RIGHT. You wanna spawn in the middle of the Helghast base, then be prepare to get cut down by Helghast LMG fire.

What idiots you all are, I think that the only logical way these weapons can be implomented into the multiplayer maps it through a pick-up. These can not and probably will not be tied to a class so therefor it will be an arms-race to get to the powerful weapon and that would make the maps very interesting.

What i really want is a game mode called TEAM TACTIC. Its a game mode where it can only be 2v2 3v3 4v4 or 5v5 and thats it. The cover system from campaign is allowed and your knife is equiped. Also, its 1 death your out. Maybe add some game modes to it, or just try it out with regular death match. But a team tactical with no assult badge would be awesome and feel like a kz2 game.

Will this cost 6 dollars again? I’m tired of paying for maps barely anyone used after the first 2 weeks. And If I do find a match it’s only those two maps. people dont like to mix up the maps.
