Fallout 3 Downloadable Content on PSN

Hello PlayStation fans. I’m Ashley Cheng, a producer at Bethesda Game Studios, here to give everyone an update on when Fallout 3 DLC will be available via PlayStation Network.

Fallout 3 Anchorage PS3

We’re excited and eager to bring Fallout 3 DLC to PSN. Unfortunately, the content is going to be releasing later than originally expected. Our DLC expands on the original game tremendously — each DLC offering 4-6 hours of additional content — and is no trivial undertaking. Here’s a brief look at the DLC you’ll be able to play.

  • Operation: Anchorage (pictured above) – Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders.
  • The Pitt (pictured below) – Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh and choose sides in the battle between the slaves and the slavers.
  • Broken Steel (pictured below) – Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest and raises the game’s level cap to 30.
  • Point Lookout – Explore a massive new swampland area filled with new quests and content.
  • Mothership Zeta – The aliens have returned, and they’re pissed. Experience an alien abduction first hand and find out if you’re tough enough to survive.

Fallout 3 Broken Steel PS3 Fallout 3 - Pitt PS3

What can you expect from our DLC?

  • More Fallout 3 Goodness – More weapons, more creatures, more armor and outfits, more characters to interact with, and more loot. You’ll find all of these within the unique new locations of Broken Steel, Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta.
  • DLC Trophies – Did I mention we’re supporting trophies in each DLC? This was a big priority for us and one of the reasons for the extra time needed. In the end, we think it’s worth the effort to bring trophies to the DLC.
  • Support for existing characters and saves – Once you’ve downloaded and installed the DLC, the content is accessible at anytime (once you leave Vault 101). You can play the DLC whenever you want — with one exception (see Broken Steel below).

So when can you expect Fallout 3 DLC? We are knee deep in testing at the moment, and we’re hoping to have the first DLC out by the end of September. That long? Keep in mind that not only do we need to test each DLC on PS3, we also need to test each DLC when used in conjunction with each of the other DLC, as well as all of them together, along with the entire original game.

I do have good news! We have decided that Broken Steel will be the first release since it is easily the most requested DLC from our fans. Broken Steel allows you to continue playing the game after completing the Main Quest, raises the level cap to 30, and includes 4-6 hours of additional gameplay. It is also the one DLC that requires you to finish the Main Quest from the game to play the new content. Regardless of whether you’ve completed the Main Quest, the level cap will already be raised and higher level characters will begin encountering some of the new enemies in the Capital Wasteland. For the release of Broken Steel and the other DLCs, we’ll release a new update for the game.

After Broken Steel, we’ll be releasing Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt shortly thereafter, probably at the same time – just to get them out to you as soon as we can. After that we’ll have Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta available as soon as we can, so that the wait between DLC is as short as possible. Once we release Broken Steel, we’ll have a better idea when the other DLC will be coming and will let you know specifics.

We hope you enjoy Fallout 3’s DLC. Thank you for your patience. They’ll be here before you know it.

  • Fallout Guys…my (odd but satisfying for reviewers) advice to you is that you guys should release like a 7gb update that includes new textures and reserves 4gb for caching to make the game run better so that the graphics look like those on pc and not “downscaled” as people are putting it

  • If anyone is still upset, I’d like to point out that Tomb Raider Underworld had exclusive DLC on the 360 and no trophies at launch and still, far more people bought it for the PS3 than the 360 or any other system. If that doesn’t tell the guys upstairs that favoring the 360 with exclusive DLC is a bad idea, nothing will.

Imagine if there had been a successful boycott of Tomb Raider Underworld because of the horrible way they treated their most loyal fans, do you think they would have learned anything?

  • great game but stopped playingdue to the bloody freezing during battles and crashes whilst walking around.

NO i will not be buying the DLC for ps3, why the hell should i pay for some thing thats been available for other systems for months.

Other companies can give us PS3 owners free download content so why cant you BETHSEDA.

HOPE THE MONEY YOU HAD FUN WITH YOUR MONEY BECAUSE YOU WIL NOT GET ANY MORE FROM ME.

  • Well thanks Bethe$da for the shoddy game and your lack of respect for ps3 fan base. [DELETED] the dlc its just that the game is broken and that you lied. IW is going timed exclusive for xbox OPENLY for the first dlc packs (2) but soon after we’ll be on our way WITH A GREAT GAME FROM LAUNCH. [DELETED] your [DELETED] dev team

  • Just Be Thankful That they are Releasing it For The PS3

  • i use gamefly and under thier coming soon section they have fallout new vegas i was wondering what it was since i have seen nothing about it on the official fallout 3 site?

  • My guess for the reason behind these delays is that Bethesda’s infant PS3 team is having trouble keeping a cobbled together throw-away port originally not intended to be expanded upon from falling apart under the weight of the new DLC.

When BS is finally released I expect a massive patch for the original game to be released simultaneously. This won’t fix existing issues with vanilla FO3 but will be required to run all the upcoming content.

  • I feel Bethesda shouldnt take all the blame in this, it’s not their fault they signed an agreement with microsoft, sony should have thought about this …or maybe tried to figure a way around this exclusive dlc brew ha ha. If I were a member of the bethesda staff some of the comments wouldn’t jive with me. I’ve read about bugs for the microsoft dlc, so if that means that I will have to wait for a polished complete product so be it.

  • I hope they make or add a 40 level cap and some additional quests or special items for the PS3 only release DLC for making us wate so long!! Also, if they add some unique items people would be more inclined to get the DLC. So I guess I will have to wait and see what they do.
On another note, Sony seems to be waking up to the fact that people like DLC to keep coming in so gamers can enjoy the game longer.

  • I can’t wait to buy and play through all of Fallout New Vegas, then, just maybe, they’ll be done with all of the Fallout 3 DLC!

What’s annoying is how they said late June and delayed not one, two, but three months?! What’s up with that? It’s their job to get this up and running and to us. “You’re JOB”. As in you get paid to do this, paid to put food on your table and clothes on your back… but you’re not doing it.

Whoever this team is needs to be fired and replaced. Same goes for Square Enix and people on FFXIII project.

  • Please forgive all these people that are giving the PSN community a bad front Ms.Cheng.They have the right to be upset and I too am upset, but they are expressing it in all the wrong ways.Thank you for not forgetting about the Ps3 version because we DID pay the same price as the 360 and PC owners.I will be purchasing all of your DLC as soon as it is available on Ps3.Btw,I sold my copy of fallout 3 exactly one week before DLC for ps3 was announced…so I had to go buy it again. You owe me 20 bucks that I lost because of that!Just kidding

  • @462 Ashley Cheng is a man.

  • @463 ………what?lol I doubt that.

  • Wow…nvm sorry my mistake…lol

  • I am super annoyed, and super disappointed.

  • The DLC should be free. I’ve waited for DLC ever since it was released for the xbox 360 and the PC. I’m not going to buy it out of shear principal(and the fact that I’m kinda board of the game and I’ve played the DLC at my friends house, but whatever)

  • Im a hardcore Fallout 3 gamer. But i have little patience i want to know is there any way that the DLC might be released before september? If not i will get the goty edition will i need to download the DLCs from the goty or will it be on the disc cause i have limited memorey?

  • I have a question.

Is it true that Bethesda was given money from Microsoft to keep the DLC from the PS3 ?

if anyone could answer that it would be appreciated.

  • Oh great, I finished the game months ago…an announcement of DLC for the last week in June sounded nice. So I started playing it again, then rumors fly about it being another week, and another, and NOW you say September? I hope you spend a ton of money on this, because you will surely lose it by treating the PS community poorly. Why would I purchase an inferior console to play DLC. Wake up Bethesda. Great game but wow you lack intelligence. And you list it at the same price months after the original release of DLC? That makes me want to stop supporting your company altogether.

  • Screw this im just gonna sell my ps3 and get an xbox 360

  • thank you bethesda for supporting us ps3 owners now i will support you guys too by buying the GOTY edition used at gamestop so once again thx lol

  • thank you bethesda i almost lost hope

  • will all dlcs be out by christmas plz reply

  • If I was still a fan of Bethesda I might give a damn, but unfortunately I’m not a fan and haven’t been since November 25th when Bethesda made their first fully public announcement regarding the way that fans of Fallout 3 would be able to continue their adventures in the Capital Wasteland through new premium DLC. That wasn’t my decision but Bethesda’s decision, they were the ones who decided that over one million PS3 owners who had purchased their game weren’t true fans and it’s a decision that I hope haunts them with this much belated attempt to redeem themselves.

  • so if i were to buy the game new ($60), now, plus $10 per episode (5 total), that will put the price tag to $90. Or wait for the goty edition for $60 and will include all 5 dlc, what to do?… I know, I’ll buy the goty… USED.

  • I have three questions. Why do ps3 users have to wait more time then 360 or pc users did? Do you have to be online to play the DLC’s, or can you download them and get offline? And do you have to have the GOTY edition for the disc DLC’s. Even though I had to wait a lot longer then 360 or pc users, fallout 3 is still my favorite game. Thanks for making it Bethesda! And could you please answer my questions, I am very curious. Thanks!

  • Sorry, didn’t reline that the GOTY edition had all of the DLC’s on it.

  • I’m sorry, I truly am, but (and this is of no offence to you Ashley) this whole thing with dlc on the ps3 seems fishy to me. You talked about how you are knee deep in testing, which I can believe, but then how was the dlc released to the PC and xbox versions of fallout 3 much faster than the ps3 version? I realise that there may be compatibility issues but I’m just curious as to why we are recieving it much later than the other versions.

  • No thanks, you aren’t going to get me all excited with your cynical little business strategy

‘Hey guys, we’re totally excited about getting your money, you’re basically getting what everyone else who didn’t buy the Xbox 360 version of the game got but you might as well bend over and take it anyway’

  • I’m overwhelmed by Ashley’s exhaustive responses to our questions. At this rate Bugesda might as well climb into bed with MS and take it up the di**b*x, and hope they don’t get eaten by them in the coming years.

  • Stop with the as soon as we can BS; soon as we can doesn’t apply to any of this PS3 DLC this long after the game’s release. How about instead promising you’ll never screw PS3 owners over like this agagin. Exclusive 360 content on your next game means 0 purchase from me. Perhaps your not aware how many millions of PS3’s have been sold?

  • To all those people yelling and complaining. you are idiots. You complain when bethesda forget about us and when they give us DLC you just complain more. Be happy they are taking extra time to fix bugs that are found on the xbox version. Bethesda thanks for the DLC. I cant wait for it and you have my money :-) Although I still am kinda ****ed about the Oblivion DLC.

  • I loved Fallout 3 when it came out. If they’d released the DLC at the same time on PS3 as the 360 i would’ve thrown all my money at it straight away because i was so in to it! But now what are we…A year later? I have no more interest in Fallout 3, there’s no way i’m spending £30 on more content for it. I would’ve blindly bought the DLC out of excitement if they’d released them when they should’ve…But not now.

This whole thing left me feeling bitter and cheated, so i’m not giving them my money for that reason, AND because it’s too late, there’s other games out there that are A) Better and B) Aren’t shafting me and my console of choice.

  • Ill definately be waiting for the GOTY edition,
    The game itself is amazing,
Mainly because of the little things!
And for me id rather own Hardware than DLC
    Extra trophies sounds brilliant too,
And cant wait to try the selection of new items, let alone go up against more compulsive enemies =]
    Cheers Bethesda,
You never fail to impress me!!

  • Rumours are sparking that the PS3 DLC and GOTY will not have there lvl cap lifted FROM 20 to 30, Can you confirm wether these rumours are true?
Personally id would suggest these were wrong as you wouldnt want to change gaming aspects between platforms to prevent gaming rivalry between companies and fans =]

  • All I can say Bethesda is that im seriously disappointed. I bought fallout 3 and loved it, and I have been waiting eagerly for the DLC for quite some time. Now it is just insult added on to the injury of releasing it so close to the GOTY edition, so late, AND at full price with no additional content to make up for it. I hope that you have learned the lesson and for your next awesome game you’ll treat the PS3 the same as the other consoles. As you can see by the comments here, doing otherwise creates some bad feelings and anger amongst a whole niche of gamers.

  • Wow…way to suck…bet this one wont even come out in Sept.

  • Hi. Any schedule when the GOTY edition is coming out? Thanks!

  • I’m just curious, but what exactly was the reason for not releasing the DLC all at the same time?

  • im just glad that we’re getting the content and that Bethesda admitted that they had to fix some bugs. at least we’ll have non-buggy dlcs

  • Well, we all know this isn’t about being “excited and eager” so much as a way to make extra dough off the Sony-Suckers, but the people telling us to stop complaining should really come off their high-horses. Are those people really expecting there NOT to be people ticked off when the planned release date was pushed back 3 whole months? May not sound like much, but in gaming terms, its the difference between racking up sales, and a blockbuster game coming out and knocking it in the jaw..which really confuses me about Bethesdas plan, too. They say they’re testing all the DLC together..does this mean they’re releasing it all as one chunk? Or one at a time?

Either way, I’m not pleased about the push-back, OR about Bethesdas constant polarisation of preference between consoles. But..I’ll still end up buying it, because when it comes down to it and you look past the Scrooge McBethesda-style strategies, Fallout 3s still a damn good game.

  • I’m glad this is happening for those of you that waited on it. Unfortunately, I’m skipping it. After what was basically a slap in the face to PS3 owners, what with the unplayable launch of Fallout 3 followed by the denied DLC, I won’t be giving Bethesda any more money for this game. Good luck with the next game, guys! I hope it’s good.

  • now because of you guys making suck rude comments i dont think that they will release the dlc for ps3 so if they dont then its the people that made all of the rude comments fault

  • Sweet it is good to see that you guys are so dedicated to us as fans. So i know you guys havent talked about it much but is there going to be anymore dlc after mother zeta?

  • Explain to me why the DLC’s were not released for PS3 when they were released for 360 and PC? AND why they STILL haven’t been released more than two months after being released for 360 and PC. I’m starting to lose faith in your company’s relation with Sony.

  • The Playstation community is pissed off. I think Bethesda gets the message. Console exclusive content is the cancer that is raging through the gaming industry, but Bethesda actually not only CHOSE to release the content, but they also are making the EFFORT to put them all through rigorous testing so that they don’t release a bug filled disaster that’ll turn our PS3 into bricks. I’ll admit I was totally turned off by the delay, but I am actually glad to hear some news instead of being left in the dark, and also glad to hear that they are working hard to make this content the best that it could be. I’d rather wait 3 extra months for the best they can offer than get a half assed rushed piece of junk all in the name of giving angry babies a pacifier.Bethesda CHOSE to give PS3 owners what they want. They didn’t really have to. So be glad that Bethesda IS thinking about the Playstation Community. Rockstar Games should take notes. Gaming isn’t one sided, and developers and publishers shouldn’t be either, no matter how much money is in the deal. Gaming is about ALL GAMERS!!!. At least Bethesda gets it now. All this negative feedback could’ve been avoided if they did all this from day one.

  • It seems that the screenshots are from either Xbox or PC version of the game: the edges are smooth. We all know the PS3 version of Fallout 3 does not have antialiasing, so it should have had jaggies all over the place.

  • I beat fallout and it was fun while it lasted until i got to level 20 then it got kinda boring it took the fun out of killing everything in the wasteland….. kinda but cant wait till dlc looks awesome

  • is there anything that you guys can say about fallout new vegas somebody let me knowsomething plz

  • Two more months? Not bad. Good to know a general date. Will just have to be patient until then.
