Fallout 3 Downloadable Content on PSN

Hello PlayStation fans. I’m Ashley Cheng, a producer at Bethesda Game Studios, here to give everyone an update on when Fallout 3 DLC will be available via PlayStation Network.

Fallout 3 Anchorage PS3

We’re excited and eager to bring Fallout 3 DLC to PSN. Unfortunately, the content is going to be releasing later than originally expected. Our DLC expands on the original game tremendously — each DLC offering 4-6 hours of additional content — and is no trivial undertaking. Here’s a brief look at the DLC you’ll be able to play.

  • Operation: Anchorage (pictured above) – Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders.
  • The Pitt (pictured below) – Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh and choose sides in the battle between the slaves and the slavers.
  • Broken Steel (pictured below) – Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest and raises the game’s level cap to 30.
  • Point Lookout – Explore a massive new swampland area filled with new quests and content.
  • Mothership Zeta – The aliens have returned, and they’re pissed. Experience an alien abduction first hand and find out if you’re tough enough to survive.

Fallout 3 Broken Steel PS3 Fallout 3 - Pitt PS3

What can you expect from our DLC?

  • More Fallout 3 Goodness – More weapons, more creatures, more armor and outfits, more characters to interact with, and more loot. You’ll find all of these within the unique new locations of Broken Steel, Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta.
  • DLC Trophies – Did I mention we’re supporting trophies in each DLC? This was a big priority for us and one of the reasons for the extra time needed. In the end, we think it’s worth the effort to bring trophies to the DLC.
  • Support for existing characters and saves – Once you’ve downloaded and installed the DLC, the content is accessible at anytime (once you leave Vault 101). You can play the DLC whenever you want — with one exception (see Broken Steel below).

So when can you expect Fallout 3 DLC? We are knee deep in testing at the moment, and we’re hoping to have the first DLC out by the end of September. That long? Keep in mind that not only do we need to test each DLC on PS3, we also need to test each DLC when used in conjunction with each of the other DLC, as well as all of them together, along with the entire original game.

I do have good news! We have decided that Broken Steel will be the first release since it is easily the most requested DLC from our fans. Broken Steel allows you to continue playing the game after completing the Main Quest, raises the level cap to 30, and includes 4-6 hours of additional gameplay. It is also the one DLC that requires you to finish the Main Quest from the game to play the new content. Regardless of whether you’ve completed the Main Quest, the level cap will already be raised and higher level characters will begin encountering some of the new enemies in the Capital Wasteland. For the release of Broken Steel and the other DLCs, we’ll release a new update for the game.

After Broken Steel, we’ll be releasing Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt shortly thereafter, probably at the same time – just to get them out to you as soon as we can. After that we’ll have Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta available as soon as we can, so that the wait between DLC is as short as possible. Once we release Broken Steel, we’ll have a better idea when the other DLC will be coming and will let you know specifics.

We hope you enjoy Fallout 3’s DLC. Thank you for your patience. They’ll be here before you know it.

  • I’m sorry Bethesda, but I’ve lost trust in you all as a company…

Treating everyone equally should be a rule in the gaming community as well as in real life…

Sorry guys… but you had many chances and you blew it.

  • Whatever the reason for the DLC exclusivity with Microsoft, timed though it was, it should be noted that many Sony users are as such because they believe in the hardware and the quality that is derived from such loyalty. Sony has a history of delivering quality hardware and the next level of entertainment and with the games coming out this and next year they are proving that their latest hardware is continuing along the same lines.

We do hope that in the future that you consider the fans of games in general rather than separating us up by dollar amounts. I have played your games since the second Elder Scrolls game and will continue to play them if you maintain the level of quality you have so far. But, I am the exception and many Sony users who enjoy your games are seeing a lot more options for quality RPGs with companies that support all platforms out of the gate.

    Thank you,
    Christopher

  • XxBigP123xX: Why not buy the game of the year edition and problem solved?

Anyways, I was beginning to get mad when they said September. But if Broken Steel IS the first DLC to come out, I promise not to shoot you all :D

  • Yea, cool that Broken steel is first. I bet the GOTY edition wont be out till mid 2010 though.

  • PASS. I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM A GAME COMPANY THAT CHOOSES THIS TYPE OF BUSINESS STRATEGY. THE KIND OF COMPANY THAT WILL ALLOW THEIR LOYAL FANS TO WAIT SO LONG FOR ADDITIONAL CONTENT OUT OF NOTHING MORE THAN GREED. ULTIMATELY YOUR GREED WILL LEAD TO YOUR DEMISE AND YOU WILL LEAD AS EXAMPLE TO NOT IGNORE SUCH A BIG INSTALL BASE.

  • Too late, You gave us a crappy port, lied to us, told us we would never get the DLC and made us wait, You can take your DLC and shove it.

  • I will rethink if and only if. You guys release a patch to solve all sorts of bugs crashes in the game.

  • “End of June” turns into “End of September”

I am disappointed. Not very professional.

Make it up to us by pricing the DLC unbelieveably inexpensive.

  • Well at least we now have a update on what’s going on. I can’t wait.

  • Good. Now that you’ve got your Microsoft money I will finally have reason to open this game up.

    12

  • Looking forward to this, but is there any word on whether or not this release will include bug fixes? I recently picked up an old saved game again to go for the platinum trophy and experienced at least 10 freezes/crashes out of 10-15 hours of game play.

It was extremely frustrating to say the least.

  • Annoyed, but still excited. If you needed extra time for it on PS3, I can buy that. Be a little more transparent about it next time.

  • Bethesda, you insulted all your PS3 game owners by neglecting them.

    Try harder next time.

If you want the PS3 owners’ support, you can’t neglect them.

  • I can be patient.

Way glad to hear that Broken Steel will be the first DLC in September.

I am looking forward to continuing the storyline in proper fashion.

  • so why haven’t you guys been testing the dlc while we have been waiting a year just to hear that we are getting it???

and how do we know the GOTY edition will be finished on time too?

glad i’ve been playing fallout 3 on the pc and NOT waiting for the ps3 version to take forever to catch up.

so sad that money and greed is what made this happen. stupid M$

  • WOW! Awesome post. It’s very precise and detailed and tells you EXACTLY what you need AND what you want to hear. Great job Ashley!

  • Look Bethesda.

Your games are great, this much is true.

    But

Why didn’t you release DLC on PS3 at the SAME TIME as PC/360!?

Why did the PS3 get such a shoddy version of FO3?

Why did you tell us the DLC would be out in June and now change it Septemember?

Why wouldn’t you release all the DLC at once after taking so long to release it?

WHY WHY WHY are have you only just started giving two [DELETED] about Playstation owners!!!!???

  • to MS, the meaning of Exclusivity, only for a few months to a years. Why dont more gaming outlets blast MS for this practice? its pretty much lying to people. its not like they did it just this one time its been a handful of times. this is one of the many reasons i will not buy a 360. i guess any time MS claims for something to be exclusive to their console, we have to assume that it will come out eventually on the PS3

  • ITS LIKE YOU GUYS DIDNT REALIZE YOU RELEASED FALLOUT ON PS3 BY NOT PATCHING OR FIXING BUGS OR GLITCHES. ASSES!

  • Woohoo can’t wait for them, all of the expansions look terrific but too bad I can’t get the DLC version because there is no PSN or credit cards available in my country therefore I’m waiting for the GOTY edition.

Do you know when the GOTY version will be available?

  • @30
You kind of contradict yourself. By suggesting that Sony should buy DLC and also lower the price of the PS3. Where does the money then come from on the free PSN?

Honestly I think Sony is doing exactly what they should be with the money, spending it on their first, second party and indie studios cranking out original titles as well as existing exclusive franchises that ROCK on the PS3.

In the end we still got the DLC and a whole bunch of exclusive PS3 games. (Which keep me busy until the DLC)

Also the PS3 has already had a $200 price cut.
    60GB = $599
    80GB = $399 and a bigger HDD
    Save = $200

Even the 160GB is $100 less.

All you people crying about price have turned the system into what it is today.
    2 USB ports
    No card slots
    and No PS2 BC

It took a while Bethesda but thank you!

  • better late then never. i loved playing fallout 3. i might buy the game once the DLC is released. i only rented it last time. game was really good though

  • I’m glad you add trophies for the DLC.

  • I glad to see many feel the same way as I do.

I understand we (PS3 owners) are the minority this generation, and I also understand that it is hard for Third party Developers to give the minority the same treatment (DLCs)… especially when MS is throwing money at you. Business is business. But there is no excuse to give us a gimped version of the game, especially 3 years after the system has been released. I am paying $60 just like the 360 guys……. I deserve the same, especially since the PS3 is just a powerful and in some cases better that the 360.

These Third party Developers are quick to forget how much money they made in the past generations thanks to the Playstation brand, and I find it disturbing to see how fast they turned their back on it’s community.

All the rest are too busy swimming in MS’s money. They forgot

  • Yeah, I´m not sure I can wait that long. I have limited time to spend on gaming and other great games will be out by then.

I really loved the game on my PS3 but I have never in my whole life played a game that freezes so much as fallout 3, don´t you test your games before you release it?

Do we get anything extra with the DLC compared to the xbox version (I don´t count extra trophies since what I heard the xbox got extra achievements) since you treated your ps3 costumers quite badly?

Anyway, I hope you make another Fallout and make better decisions then you did with this game.

  • Good to hear you guys are giving it the additional spit and polish. And don’t skimp on the trophies, I love them trophies! ;)

  • About time! I was waiting for a reason to get back on FALLOUT. I just hate leaving such a good game, because of level caps.

  • If the GotY edition comes out mid October and I will be happy. I rented Fallout 3 and really want to play it again, but will wait for the GotY.

  • @56 zzVengeance
Finally someone that remember their lies and BS.

Here is my suggestion to everyone here. If a developer said the the PS3 is not getting DLC but the xbox 360 is, buy their games used so they do not profit from it. Let them know that the consumers are the ones that keep their business going.

  • wow.. that’s horrible almost a year later than 360 and PC… I hope they’re gonna cost less than those on the other consoles being that it’s so late and all.

  • just wait…they will push GOTY edition back to December so PS3 owner’s have no choice but to buy all the dlc separate if they want it before all the good games come out for the holiday season

  • Yay! It’s about time.

I canceled my preorder of the Collector’s Edition once it was revealed the 360 would get exclusive DLC. Please refrain from those practices in the future.

Thank you Bethesda, for putting your games on the PS3.

  • who cares this stuff has been out for a while now i,m so sick of these companies treating playstation owners as 2nd rate hello this is crazy i measn i,m not buying any of the crap that came out on xcrack 1st ever its like this comment i read where this dev.. has only created 1 game 4 the ps2 & has since been working on products 4 xcr5ack & now they want 2 bring this game 2 ps3 & the interviewer asks r the graphics gonna b as good as the xcracks u know 4 that certain game i the dev was like yea kinda well i say this the ps3 can do far better n the graphics department and if they cant make the graphics or the game better than the xcrack well than leave it on that crap machine cause we as PLAYSTATION owners deserve better than that we paid 4 a superior console we demand superior games PERIOD

  • wow, wtf? till september? you guys said it was almost done 2 weeks ago!

  • @SPARDA
They are not good enough to make quality games on the xbox 360 let alone on the PS3. The game was almost a buggy on the xbox 360. Bethesda Softworks gets a free pass in the media, but if it was a Sony first party game and they game had 50% of the issues Fallout 3 had, then they media would have eaten up that game. Look at Socom, that game has a lot of bugs when it was first release and got eaten alive by the media while games with a lot more issues such as Fallout 3 and Gears of War 2 got free passes because they are not PS3 exclusive.

  • I’m just waiting for the Game of the Year Edition.

And since I played the game already and gotten all the trophies. I know for sure I’ll be doing the main quest along with broken steal first. And then I’ll do all the other DLC main quests and side quests.

I can’t wait oh and before I do all that I have to finish the Mages Guild and Shivering Isles in Oblivion.

  • I can careless since this DLC wasn’t release simultaneously. Old content with BS prices. No thanks!

  • PS3 getting shafted on multi-platform games again.

    @30 – This isn’t Sony’s fault.

The blame is 100% on Bethesda for dropping the ball. Nice to see another Microsoft lackey screwing Sony customers over, just like Valve.

Thanks Bethesda, but no thanks, to your crappy game.

  • This is awesome news. Many will complain, but I say thank you.

  • Nice going SOny let 360 trample all over you! You are starting to lose all of our Patience becuase your so blinded by the fact that the 360 is kicking your [DELETED] because you don’t care what we want better prices i teh PSN store IN GAME MUSIC THAT SUPPORTS ALL OUR GAMES/CROSS IN GAME CHAT!!! And better deals VS what the 360 fans get we are losing everything!..Omg seriously quit slacking off!..Fix Home etc.. Because seriously what have you done for us? YOU HAVEN’T DONE SQUAT!. But what I’d like to ask you is this. “Do you like it that we complain and you don’t listen to what we want?”….

  • Though a great game, I already sold it on ebay, so I will not be getting the dlc.

  • Won’t be getting it. Sorry Bethesda you turned into Valve and Capcom in a bad way :).

  • Yikes, it’s coming out right around the usual Fall craziness. Bad move.

  • Since bethesda prove that they are a bunch of liar (the dlc will be “exclusive” to xbox360 and will never come to ps3) i will not buy the dlc and the dlc took so much time to come out on ps3, i couldnt are less about the game now.

  • Thanks, but no thanks, [DELETED].

  • You guys can keep the DLC.

  • Cool cant wait. I been waiting for the FO3 DLC be4 i start playing the game.

  • Great news Bethesda! :)
Can’t wait for the DLC, Fallout 3 is amazing.

Just hope you price the DLC right, like £2.99(I’m English) per DLC.

    Perfect price :)

  • I’m disappointed but still looking forward to the DLC and will definitely be getting each piece as soon as possible. One question: I hit the level cap in the main campaign a few hours before finishing the game. Did the game continue to track my experience, or will I be starting out just over level 20? Trivial question, but I was just curious.

Thanks, and looking forward to September :)

    • The game will stop counting XP when you hit lvl 20. Once you start playing with Broken Steel, the cap is raised to lvl 30 and you start accumulating XP again.
