Fat Princess: Her Majesty Awaits…

Deborah Mars's Avatar Posted by Managing Producer, SCEA Santa Monica Studio

Hey Everyone,

This is Deb Mars, Managing Producer at SCEA Santa Monica Studio. We know many of you are anxiously awaiting the sweet PlayStation Network arrival of none other than Her Royal Highness: Fat Princess.

You have been very patient, and we really do appreciate all your support. Since E3 back in early June, we and the fantastic development team at Titan Studios have been working very hard to get the fine lady and her beloved subjects all ready for their much-anticipated debut.

So here’s the deal: We have tons of info to share with you, but we want to take this opportunity to let you all ask the questions. So, go ahead…ask us. Let us know what you want to know.

Post questions below in response to this blog entry, and then we’ll gather a bunch of them to put forth to Titan Studios. They will answer these questions directly during a PlayStation Eye video chat interview with our good pal, Jeff R, next week.

Enjoy some of the new screenshots, and we’ll be seeing you on the battlefield soon!

QUESTION: Can we level up each class? do they become better, more specialized?

ANSWER: You can upgrade your hat dispensers (Hat dispensers are the machines that produce “class” hats for the various classes in the game) by playing as a Worker and collecting the necessary resources to upgrade the hat dispencer of your choice. Once you upgrade a hat dispenser you can choose between the “basic” version and the “upgraded” version of the class on the fly during a battle.

It’s been expressed already, but will there be a demo?

I’m not sure I’m interested in this type of game, having never played a tower defense title, but Fat Princess looks like a great game to breach the genre. I hope there will be a demo, particularly one that can be played online. The Warhawk demo is limited to one map, but you may play it as many times as necessary. I found it to be very influential in buying the game. Please do the same with Fat Princess.

If you keep prolonging your game it would get so much hype that when it comes out everyone is not going to like it. For example, Prototype was supposed to be a great game from what we’ve heard in the past but it got so hyped and now look where that game went. Nowhere. I buy every single game that is good. I don’t have a specific genre of games that I have as a favorite. Atleast give a release date even if it’s to far people would know how to wait instead of keeping everything hidden. For example, Infamous. They gave us a release date even though it was to far they could hype the game all they wan since we already know when it’s coming out.

napkin said:

July 17th, 7:54 pm

It’s unfortunate that this game was delayed. Honestly if you guys plan on releasing this in the fall there’s no way it’s going to sell. Everything is going to fail sales wise when released near Modern Warfare 2.

The 2nd allure to this game other than the content is that it was supposed to be out in the summer, so i’d buy it, play it for a few months online and it would hold me over until Modern Warfare 2.

Trust me when I say you’ll sell a LOT more of this game if you get it out by august at the latest. September and later is really pushing it and you’re gambling at that point.

Black_Ryuk said:

I agree with all the people like #223 if this game does not come out soon its going to fail. Especially because its heavily based on online play. Its going to be the same as games like Calling All Cars that got delayed. How can the problem be this big that it has not been fixed yet :S When the game was ready to be released.

– When is the game coming out?

I really hope it comes out no later than August because then there will be quite a few games coming out and the game will have lost all the hype it generated earlier this year.

– What are the current multiplayer modes and how many maps in total are there?

– Will there be a lobby system for the online multiplayer?

– Will there be any sorting levelling up or XP system in the game? If yes, please provide details.

– Will there be a clan system?

– What specific incentives are there for players to work together? What kind of squad options/commands can we expect?

– Will there be some sort of party mode?

when is it being release? (specific date)

what exactly caused the pushback of a june release?

what will the price be?

when and how much DLC will come out for it after release and what kind of price range do you expect this DLC to cost?

have you been adding something totally new that we have yet to hear about from the game and what is it?

is splitscreen of any type supported? whether online battles or gladiator mode?

will there be a demo for fat princess the day of release or the week before release?

can the psp version be played in any way with the ps3 version, or are they completely seperate games?

also just for fun, will you please just tell us every piece of information your studio knows on fat princess?!?!? :P

oHIKARUo said:

lol you guys are still repeating every single one of the questions I already reposted to condense this thread into those few posts.

The game will come out no later than August, since that marks the end of summer and the beginning of fall.

I agree that if this game isn’t released soon then the game will fail because all of the players with a tight budget will save money for the Q4 releases like MAG, MW2, etc.

That is too bad because I already had 25 people lined up to purchase this upon release, we don’t share games either we all buy them to support the developer. Oh well.

Numbers of things for me to buy that I would be occupied with instead of this game.

1. PSPgo!
2. Madden 10
3. NHL10
4. NBA2k10
5. Uncharted 2
6. Modern Warfare 2
7. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
8. Specially MAG!
9. Dissidia FF
10. The Beatles: Rockband
11. Mini Ninjas
12. Batman
13. Marvel Ultiamte Alliance 2
14. HEAVY RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
15. TEKKEN 6

I’ll stop here you must get my point by now.

Well yes It’s going to be hard for anyone to concentrate on all of these games at them same time. So if you intend on releasing your game by the time any of these games release your absolutely FAILING!

US gamers don’t care about this but

WOULD YOU SUPPORT COUNTRY FLAGS IN LOBBIES? Seeing the different flags of the other players in the lobby really gives a sense of global community to online games, I saw that difference when playing on the PSN for the first time…XBL didn’t do that (not sure today)

You can edit this Q as you please, the real question is about the country flags

thanks and looking forward to your game

Is FAT PRINCESS coming out on BluRay disc in stores? I really want this game but I hate filling up my HDD with more games. I barely have any room left and prefer having the hard copy.

I think Fat Princess is a big enough title to be on BluRay. Even Marvel vs Capcom2 (downloadable game) is having a BluRay edition that can be bought in stores. Why not Fat Princess!

Will there be a persistent leveling up system?

I know you can level up your character and change your classes during a game, but it seems like it will only be effective for that specific match.

To keep players interested in the online portion of the game for months and years to come, there should be some sort of persistent level progression like Call of Duty 4 and WAW’s Prestige Levels. Are there any persistent features in the game to offer gamers incentive to keep on playing? Things such as unlockable customizations?

Anyways, can you guys confirm how many players can play on one system? What modes can they all play together in? Online and offline? Multiple user account log-ins?

Leaderboards? User created customized matches? A variety of online modes such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, etc? Clan support?

Basically how robust are the single player/multiplayer/co-op/splitscreen/online/offline aspects of the game?

RockLeeX said:

Now on to my wishful thinking rant.

Someone suggested a “Fat Princess: Far East pack” with samurais and ninjas and feeding sushi to the princesses in Asian themed maps. I second this. ^_^ Maybe after that offer modern army themes, then go on to gang wars, then zombies, etc. Take Fat Princess all the way!!! >:D

By the way, this next question isn’t really about Fat Princess specifically. But is Sony working on a way to offer physical copies of Download-only games? Maybe a website where we can order a couple of games to be fitted onto a Bluray, and pay the full prices of all the games combined + the price of the Bluray disc?

Vanpak said:

Is there an option for four players to sit together on one couch and play online??? IF NOT THEN THISS IS A BIG FAIL.

A Game LIKE Fat princess needs people to play together and sony always forgets that there are more than one player @ one house who like to sit together and play ( thatss why people buy more than one dual shock )

First of all, thanks for creating such a funny, good looking multiplayer game. Besides Uncharted 2, this is the one I’ve been looking out for in 2009.

As for the questions…
I won’t ask when the European release date is, or how much it will cost – although I do like to know.

I’d like to know, as a member of, if there’s a possibility to create a clan? So players can put in there clantag and everything else that comes with creating a clan.

Also, will there be ‘bots’ to fill up the ‘space’?
