PlayStation Home v1.3 Coming This September

As announced at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, PlayStation Home’s core client will be getting a serious upgrade this fall. And when we say serious, dear readers, we’re talking excessive and impressive in quality, extent, and degree. This is the for real deal upgrade!

I got three words to start us off: Universal. Game. Launching. That’s right – you can now launch into any PlayStation 3 game directly from Home. Titles that fully support game launching (like Street Fighter IV, Resistance 2, MotorStorm, and Far Cry 2) will be identified by separate icons that appear over an avatar’s head and will have varying degrees of additional multiplayer functionality built in. Simplified game launching will take you from Home to the start menu of your favorite games with ease. Never again will you have to sign out of Home to play with (or against) your friends. Simply insert the disc of your choice while in Home and follow the on screen directions and you’ll be good to go.

Shop-a-holics will be stoked to see that an in-store item previewing option will be rolled out. This feature will allow you to preview items of clothing on your character in 3D (including the ability to check out multiple items simultaneously to see what combinations best suit your taste). You’ll be able to preview all furniture in 3D as well, complete with zoom and rotate options so you can check your potential purchases from all angles, right down to the nitty gritty. We’ll also offer you the ability to rent certain items and purchase “consumables” (limited use items) when available – such as the new Shrink Potion that lets you shrink your avatar to a tiny size. All in all, we think you’ll find that these new features allow for greater control over the use of your personal items. We’ve even added a new section to the Menu Pad under Personal > My Purchases to help you keep it all organized.

PlayStation Home v1.3 will also see additional portable objects (like the Bubble Machine) made available to the community. To start, we’ll be giving everyone free cameras that you can use to snap pictures from either a 1st or 3rd person view. These photos will automatically be saved to the Photo section of the XMB, from which you can then upload to the picture frames you have hanging in your personal spaces. We’ll be announcing more portable objects very soon, so be sure to check in on this blog often to stay abreast of the latest PlayStation Home item releases. Or just use the Latest Updates tab in your Menu Pad > Community. We here over at the PlayStation Home Community team keep an updated list of all new content releases in this area.

On the subject of portable objects, rest assured that we’ve listened to your suggestions and made some changes to help you better customize your in-world experience. You’ll be able to manually hide any portable object that you encounter, and objects placed by anyone on your Ignore or Block list will also be hidden. We think you all will find that accessing certain mini-games and watching videos will be much easier thanks to these additional options.

There are tons of little updates that you’ll notice when PlayStation Home v1.3 launches. To start, you’ll see that your avatar has additional emotes – including two new action emotes (you can flip a coin with your friends or play the old “pick a number between 1 and 100” game). You will also be able to pose your avatar in a variety of ways (photo op anyone?). We’ve also added some new categories of clothing (composite and outfits) that will allow you to customize your avatar with greater ease. In addition, we’ve optimized the targeting system, added a new queuing system, fixed quite a few pesky bugs, and are giving you the option to determine your cache size (you can choose from 3, 5, 8, and 12 GB) so as to make navigating Home a much smoother experience. As we get closer to launch, we’ll post complete patch notes for the v1.3 client on the PlayStation Home General forum at www.us.playstation.com. So if you haven’t yet signed up for our forums, please take a moment to do so now – and check in often for more details regarding what’s going on in PlayStation Home.

Last but certainly not least, we’ll be launching a SingStar space right around the time that PlayStation Home v1.3 hits your PlayStation 3s. This swanky night club-esque SingStar-themed game space is sure to be the hot new hub for all of you party goers. Whether you want to get down with your friends on the reactive dance floor, vote for your favorite music videos on the Video Jukebox, or test your knowledge at the SingStar Music Quiz, this space promises to have something for every SingStar fanatic.

See you all in Home!

LOL ..What the frak are you talking about ? ” 3 emails over my missing apartment ” …why would you send emails to sony about your missing apartment . ain’t there fault you homeless..lol

  • 253rd! YYAAAYYYYYYYYYYY!!

  • I dont understand Home. They need to have free movies or tv shows in the theater. what is the point of having a theater for comercials?

  • the new update seems great. im just curious about the poker tables glitching and locking up?? any fix?? also how come hot dogs come in packs of 10 and buns come in packs of 8?????

  • this update is gonna be sweet. i cant wait for the camara portable object and the cloths preview option

  • This is all cool but what about the stuff store am i the only one who really wants stuff in the stuff store??!! i mean ive noticed that you guys moved the stuff store around but still there is nothing in it you should take it out and put something else there in the mean time and where are the tvs and stuff like that for the apt i wanna put a playstation 3 in my home and a ps2 and ps1 and all things SONY!!!! lol i know it sounds like a lot but that would make HOME PERFECT!!!

  • grrrrrrreat!

  • SWEEET!!! Keep it up Playstation Keep it up.

  • yes finally sum more good things

  • I hope the caching cures the problems with the game freezing up and crashing while it’s downloading a lot of content (such as if you haven’t been on in a couple months).

It would be nice if there was a way to pre-cache everything you need to make Home run smoothly before you enter.

  • good to hear

  • Excellent!

  • It looks great and so dose the new ps3 slim
and the update that coming out for the ps3

    GO SONY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    xbox sucks with the WII

  • I can’t wait for this update I been waiting along time for home to get to this stage..

  • i can’t wait for it hopefull they will add talking in public areas

  • Wow!!! Playstation Home is Finally coming along & is starting to become what you guys said it would be.That Previewing option is just what I have been waiting for so maybe I’ll start buying some of that interesting stuff you guys have been putting out. It would also be nice if we could also preview Apartments by taking a virtual walkthrough of some kind. Now you guys only have a few more things in my mind that you have to improve on in Home & those are….

    – Building some form of Que system for mini games,Where you get a number or something and as long as you stay in the room your guranteed to get in when your number is called because some of them really do get backed up.(i.e.Siren)

    – Fixing Picture Frames because as it is now we should be allowed to put as many picture frames as we want in our Apartments and on any part of the wall, instead of being limited to certain area’s of the wall and certain amounts per apartment.

    to be continued…

  • – Adding that Trophy Room that was back at E3.

    – Being able to Full Screen the Theater’s Screen from any seat in the Theater.

    – Bringing Voice Chat back in all Area’s but you can only hear people who are on your Friends List

    and lastly…

    – Adding Radio’s,TV’s and other stuff which I know will probably take the longest time but please don’t give up on it.

Now keep this going and Home will Thrive.

    Keep up the Good Work

  • AWESOME!

  • here is one for you.

Game Launching. can i boot into a normal game (not multiplayer) just my normal game so i can play a normal game with home still logged in and will i recive home messages in a box while im in game.

    AND!

if i am engaged in phone call in home and i go into my said single game with home still logged in will my phone conversation be maintained.

    AND!

If said participaint of my phone conversation is playing a completley seperate different game on his own whilst in the phone conversation would this mean X-Game Chat :D

can you have more than 1 person connected into a phone conversation in home??? would this mean Home Party so to speak.

  • Cool all we need now is tv’s and mor eintigration with the xmb like xbox live, it would be cool if u can see ur friends avatar in the xmb

  • this update is going to be awesome, but it sucks i won’t get my PS3 until a couple days cus I bought the one that didn’t have backwards capability so i sold it and now i’m getting the one with backwards capability, and that goes for all the people who don’t have the backwards capability PS3’s sooner or later your memory is going to get full and your not going to be able to put in memory card slots, because you don’t have memory card slots!

  • I will not use home until they add trophy room.

  • hooray!!!

  • What a waste of resources that could have been put into something that actually improves gaming on the ps3!

Yeah just keep doing what you are doing Sony. Its obviously working. (sarcasm)

  • With the Home camera you should be able to take a picture of your Home ‘avatar’ and then use it as your PSN ‘avatar’. I play so many different games that I do not want to have to choose between game picture avatars. I much rather have my Home ‘avatar’ to be my PSN ‘avatar’. Thank you

  • Now if we can share music from our PS3

  • You know what bothers me about home. There are horrible hairstyles and really bad customization with the faces.

If you just made it work like AION works, it would be amazing. 10% of the hairstyles in that game own the entire collection in home. I can actually make my character look like me in AION (and second life) in Home, there’s no chance really. The constraints suck. I want to like home, without some really good hair, and it positioned on the head right.. I mean even City of Heroes/Villains has better customization, though it doesn’t look as realistic… yet home doesn’t look very realistic either.

  • please add a pull my finger emote!

  • Thank you! PS3 Rocks!

  • @ 270: All those things would be great. But then we would need ‘conference calls’ ;-)

    AND!

They should ditch the ‘push-to-talk’ (You have to press R2 for others to hear you, which doesn’t really work well).

This *could* be great, although I don’t think your voicechat will be maintained. :-(

  • I hope the clothing will be (FREE) as PS Home did say “every thing is free” even on the website but im hoping to wait for this and the upcoming close of PS Home BETA and into the full exprience of the full PS Home im hoping its coming this Christmas with more content.

  • cool an update for home

    But i have a question
I had a PS3 and I had got some stuff 4 home but my PS3 got stolen, now when i buy a new 1 will I still have everything I had when I log in with my PSN?

  • hey if u still need ideas about playstation home i got 1 like how bout if u can do different poses when u sit down oon diferent seats i bet every one would want thetr when u sit down

  • Hopefully this update will be good because since voice chat was taken out playstation home has had nothing available other that the forever loading screens and lots of lag! I personally reload home on my PS3 every now and then just to see if any changes have helped these problems only to find the same old same then delete home again and wait another month!

  • could u make a free store where every thing is free instead of spreading them around the mall

  • Im excited. Is there a date in september which this update will take place.

  • Three things, first Home is fantastic, love all the work you’ve done to provide a serious well crafted community. Second with all the updates you are incorporating do you think you can add the Studio Harbor outside appartment scenery(bay area and the like) as a site. The place looks like a serious vacation spot and just as bright and inviting as Central Plaza. Third open that wooden door next to the mall area i’ve been waiting to see what you guys can come up with. :-)

  • This looks totally SICK! But there are a few recommendations I have to get more home users and to make Home more of a “game” then one of those “walk around chatrooms” type games. First off I think the trophy system from our profiles should get a game feature. What I was thinking was like a trophy case, but a TROPHY MONITOR. It would be like a plasma screened television that could hang on your wall and it could display your profile information. Also, for the sake of the people (not me) that dont have money to supply their PSNs should get more ACTUALLY GOOD free clothes… but rewarded to them outside of Home… like the InFAMOUS demo. Such as for beating certain PS Exclusives. Like a MotorStorm costume or an Uncharted costume would be AMAZING. If the televisions could work that would be great too. And a common complaint is weapon clothing items. Those would be cool as well. Thanks for listening to my crud ideas. Please consider them.

  • More Black Clothes & Universal Music Would B Nice

  • I definitely like universal game launching. Its a step in the right direction. I know that Adhoc Party is available in Japan but if we see a Stateside release of that, would it be possible to some how integrate it into universal game launching. It would be awesome because Capcom could release a Monster Hunter Freedom Unite space and it could be used as an Ad-hoc Party hub. Also, if you guys could use your connections to get Namco to create Namco Museum Essentials 2, I would appreciate it. I noticed that the space has posters for Dragon Buster and Tower of Druaga. I would love to unlock machines for those games in a sequel to the collection.

  • Yes, I am totally excited about the clothes preview(now I dont have to regret buy the clothes I dony like.) P.S. I saw some awesome clothes in Europes(UK)shopping mall, how come we dont get that?

  • Oh 1 more thing, could you make items that you must earn from certain minigames made available in the mall stores(for instance, the Resistance hoody, dont feel like earning 1,000,000 points and I really want it)?

  • I just got an update yesterday for home. Is that the update thst this blog is talking about? If so I tryed the game launching feature with Tom Clancy’s Endwar but nothing happened.

  • Excellent news! I’ve been waiting for a time like this when Home put a larger ‘core’ update in.

  • \m/(>.<)\m/
    rockstar status

  • Will HOME ever come out of BETA? It is getting annoying every time there is an update, I have to redownload all the game space and area.

  • I hope we get some of the clothes from the JP server. For some reason their stuff seems much better. lol

  • SWEET!!!!!!

  • For some reason, I can’t join Play Station Home. It says im not old enough; even though I am 14. I really want to join Home.

  • Can somebody help me?
