The fans spoke and we listened.

For those that recall the God of War survey conducted earlier this year, an overwhelming amount of the community suggested the PlayStation 2 experiences of Kratos be brought forth to the PlayStation 3.

Thanks to your feedback, we are excited to announce the God of War Collection for this Holiday Season. Now fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic journey of God of War and God of War II in 720p HD form. Both titles have been remastered with anti-aliased graphics, running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience, only on the PS3 system. Additionally, the Blu-ray Disc compilation will bring the PlayStation Network (PSN) trophy support to the franchise for the very first time.

Exclusive God of War® and God of War® II Blu-ray Disc Compilation

FOSTER CITY, Calif., September 1, 2009 – Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced today a new and exclusive PlayStation®3 (PS3™) offering for the critically acclaimed God of War® franchise, God of War® Collection. Scheduled for release this holiday season, God of War Collection will feature reworked versions of both God of War® and God of War® II on a single Blu-ray Disc™ at full 1280 x 720 resolution. Both critically acclaimed games, which were originally developed for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, have been remastered with anti-aliased graphics running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience on the PS3 system. Additionally, the Blu-ray Disc compilation will bring PlayStation®Network (PSN) trophy support to the franchise for the first time (included for both games). God of War Collection offers substantial value to PS3 consumers, the compilation of both best-selling games costing just $39.99 MSRP.

Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment, Santa Monica Studio, the God of War series brings epic mythological battles to life with stunning graphics and an elaborate plot that puts Kratos, the triology’s main character, at the center of carnage and destruction as he seeks revenge against the Gods who have betrayed him. God of War® III is scheduled for release exclusively on the PS3 in March 2010.

“We are excited today to announce God of War Collection,” said Scott Rohde, vice president, Worldwide Studios America. “Our fans spoke and we listened; thanks to our partnership with Bluepoint Games, fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic God of War and God of War II saga in stunning 720p on PS3. This Blu-ray Disc compilation brings Kratos to PS3 even earlier than expected.”

God of War Storyline
Set in the dark world of ancient Greek mythology, players take on the role of Kratos, a Spartan warrior. Plagued by the nightmares of his past, the ash covered warrior would do anything to be free of his debt to the Gods and the memories that haunt him. For ten years he has labored for Olympus, now on the verge of losing all hope, the Gods have given him one last task. Destroy Ares, the God of War. Armed with the deadly chained Blades of Chaos, Kratos will have to overcome armies of mythological monsters, legions of undead soldiers, and amazingly dangerous and brutal landscapes.

God of War II Storyline
God of War saw Kratos, a mortal warrior, set upon an epic quest to dethrone a God. But his journey did not end there. In God of War II, Kratos sits atop his Olympus throne, as the new God of War – far more ruthless than Ares ever was. To end his continued torment, Kratos must journey to the far reaches of the earth and defeat untold horrors and alter that which no mortal, or god has ever changed… his fate. God of War II sets an epic stage for a devastating mythological war to end all wars.

  • I missed like 20 hearth beats there.

Not only this is awesome for GoW fans its also great marketing for GoWIII cause if people complained they never played the previous games cause they were on the PS2 well now they can just get this for an awesome price :)

  • Hey sony, please make these into collections:
    ICO & SotC
    Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3
    Jak & Daxter
    Sly Cooper

  • now sony you need to announce Heavenly Sword 2 and i will be in Hack and Slash heaven lol

  • OMFG!! OMFG!! I have both games but will def. get this one!! thanks SONY!!

  • shaodw of colasess…or however you spell it needs to be re-released.

  • Awesome news!!! What would be ideal is if they package a collectors edition of GOW III with this bluray disc compilation!

Here’s my wallet! TAKE IT! IT’S YOURS LOL

  • “There will be chaos…”

  • Incredible! Awesome news. Thanks guys!

    I like this in particular:

“The fans spoke and we listened.”

    Very cool. ;)

  • cool ….. so i dont need my god of war II ps2 version anymore

  • im dreaming! omg cant w8!

  • WOW …..SOLD…

  • you got my buy ^_^

  • Awesome. And trophies for PS2 games too. Has that been done before?

  • If the response you’ve gotten for this post doesn’t say how incredibly this news it. I don’t know what will. Sony is seriously listening to fans that speak out. Because of the fans PS3 is coming back and will be kicking ass this holidays season. Thank you Sony ! !

  • its really nice to see a Developer listening to what the fans want and giving it to them. Other Devs need to take a page off your books.

Good job guys and i will def be picking this up as i never did get around to playing part 2. thank you for the chance to be able to replay these games on my ps3 and the added trophy support.

Keep up the excellent work guys!!

  • As AWESOME as this may be!

1.)How come the games aren’t in full 1080p HD, the PS3 has to be more than capable to handle that.
2.) Include Chain of Olympus with it PLEASEEEEE!!!

  • *must save for compilation. must save for compilation.* What was I saying?

  • Yeah other BLU-RAY collections would be great too!
ICO and SOTC would be amazing!
    How about all PS2 Platformers…
    like Ratchet and Clank Collection
    Jak and Daxter Collection
    Sly Cooper Collection.
Metal Gear Solid Collection, but with the GaameCube remake of MGS1 !!
PS: Include the PSP games here too!!!

  • HOPING to the GOD of Gods..that the GoD of WaR ONLY those two..and that there will be a BETTER EDITION towards the GOD OF WAR 3…Seriously ..I and EVERY GoD oF WaR FaN would XPECT a FIGURINE..COMIC BOOK and a HOME SPACE!!!!!!..RIGHT FANS?!!! HOLLER IF U HERE ME!!!! :p

  • Sweet. I might pick this up since I never finished GOW2. And, thanks for keeping the price reasonable AND adding trophies. I think this type of HD upgrading should be done to other PS2 series as well… I’d love me a Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, & 3 version of this.

  • Whaaaaaat?? No way! Completely came out of left field. Sounds awesome!

Now I’m glad I held off on buying the God of War games :D This is awesome. Square-Enix and Konami take note! This is how you do a rerelease :D

(MGS3 and FFXII in HD plz)

I’m so picking this up, though! :D

  • I got a good felling about this. I personaly think that the price should be $30 instead of $40 because they are old PS2 titles but it does come with two great games with better graphics. Plus it comes with trophies!!! That’s realy exciting! It’s kind of hard to complain. I’m looking toward to this. Thanks for the great news.

  • Great news!
Of course, I recently bought God of War II for $25. However, I’m happy to support this $40 purchase, largely for the new trophies. :)
And to support Sony for such a wicked idea! In the end, it’ll be as if I’d paid single game price (~$60) for two classic games I wanted to play anyways.

  • I’d frickin go MAD with excitement if Sony announces a remastered Ico/Shadow of The Colossus collector’s edition on one Blu-ray disc with HD graphics, 60fps and trophy support before the release of The Last Guardian. I’d honestly go mad, happily.

Please Sony, is it too much to ask? :P

  • BADASS!!!

  • This is awesome please please please
do this with other ps2 games like shadow of the colossus and KINGDOM HEARTS 1&2

  • this is cool. now i can see wats so good about GoW and GoW2 and i wouldnt need my PS2 =D

  • YES! Amazing, thank you so much sony. Hopefully this starts a new trend. I really hope they do this with the Metal Gear series, but this is awesome!

  • nothing can be said except Thank You! (this was posted from my 60 gig PS3)

  • WOW thank you so much Sony.

1st day from me even though i already have both games, they are very much worth the replay until Gow3.

  • I was hoping for this to be bundled with a collector’s edition :(

  • Now THIS is what ALL developers do, listen to their god damn fans!

  • OMG!!!This is freaking AWESOME!!!

  • I love Sony. And bacon.

    …Trophy support!!! FTW

  • This is just too good to be true! I think that the first God of War is simply the most flawless game ever made, and I bought the second game too, but never had time to play it. This is pretty close to being the best news all year.

Only thing better would be similar kind of Ratchet & Clank collection. But this is positively awesome!

  • I love you Sony.

  • Is this going to Europe?

  • Cant wait to get this! Especially with added trophies!

Also, We want Ico and Shadow of the Colossus BD Disc Compilation!

  • Gooodddddddddddddddddddd

  • thank you sony gods

  • What a Christmas this shall be….

  • Please Please Please Re-Release ICO and Shadow of the Colossus on Blu-ray.

  • Very cool.

So when can we expect a Team Ico disc with ICO and Shadow of the Colossus in native 720p with high-resolution textures? :D

P.S. I will pay $60 for an HD Team Ico collection.

  • @615 “Sony is seriously listening to fans that speak out.”

    Are you kidding me?

    Are you mentally retarded?

If Sony were *actually* listening to fans, they wouldn’t have taken out BC and resell our games to us for an inflated price.

This is a sham and Sony should be ASHAMED!

  • says ‘remastering’ and ‘port’ so I’m a bit confused … does that mean changing the rendering engine to render in HD res or GS emulation which the PS3 hardware upscales and slaps a bit of AA on top of it (ala original BC solutions)? hoping the former – especially if they’re are adding trophies and funding a great dev team for it – because if there’s an new rendering engine for PS2 games to run on PS3 … that would mean … Sony has the technology…? :o

*crosses fingers for a ICO and SoTC Collection when The Last Guardian comes out*

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Wow, I’m a bit late to the party, but damn am I ever glad to find this out.

Two remastered games that are treated like a full PS3 game for 39.99? You can count me in.

I hope other game developers whose games got tons of attention (*cough* FFVII *cough*) as well, decide to follow in the brilliant footsteps of these men.
