IMO the friend and message indicators are good things. Useful information to have without the need to scroll over to the friend list. The ticker and box outline need to go.

  • “We look forward to your feedback once the update goes live”

Careful what you wish for :D On another note, I posted my thoughts several pages back, but it was last night when the site was having trouble, so it duplicated a number of times. Apologies to the board.

Thumbs down on the Fisher-Price interface.

  • i’m on the internet and playing music form my XMB as we speak. Maybe it only works since i have the 80gb model

  • Over 1400 comments and not one comment from a Sony representative. Is something being done?

  • i like it for the most part, but i would like the option to turn the ticker or whats new off.

i dont mind the friends list look. but i do think that the store icons everwhere make you look desperate for a sale. one icon is enough.

  • Text is bigger on my TV (Samsung HD 32 inch) after the update. Not a big deal. Friends list looks a little weird.

  • @1426 lol epic fail.

Ok seriously tho its ugly. I sure hope someone decides to fix this. I feel like either:
1: I should move my tv and couch back so my eyes can adjust to the all up in your face font and icons

2: make my theme silver to somehow blend in the redesigned friends list

I am going to try both because, this new setup is terrible.

  • near means when?

  • And us canadians wants movies in the PS store… cause for now the PS3 “Does NOT do it all” …

  • @1427 FTW

  • I CANT LISTEN TO MUSIC WHILE ON THE INTERNET!! AND I CANT EVEN GO OUT INTO THE XMB WHILE LISTENING TO MUSIC!!! THIS BLOWS!

  • I’ve been waiting for this moment for a while now and it is finally coming :D

  • I would very much like to hear Sony’s Feedback to User Feedback…

  • RESPOND, SONY!

Don’t act childishly. Consumers are not pleased, many consumers are furious because of the graphical changes, so don’t act as if nothing happened.

  • @1428 FTW

  • Way to go there guys err gals, way to mess the carp out of the xmb. Is it now the barbie ps3? glitter for our xmb? is this real or am I still asleep. This is the absolute worst looking interface for any piece of tech I have ever owned. Why do you constantly try to piss all of us off? Whose Daughter came up with the sparkle idea? Fire that person… Please release a patch that lets one revert back to the old XMB. We all LOVED that one….

  • Set your output frequency to 48.1 kHz, and you can browse and listen again. I dig most of what was done in this update.

  • Okay, we can have 2 audio output, why not 2 video output?
That will help people like me to record with a capture card and play in HD.

  • Awesome update! icons are a bit big though.

  • Off to play on my new 360, atleast its interface is not as garish as my ps3’s….

    for shame Sony for shame…..

  • The numbers for each post are getting messed up. But I think this was genius…

  • After I watched the preview for FW 3.0 I immediately unhooked my PS3 from the internet. There was no way I was going to let these clowns turn my beautiful playstation into their own little push marketing/advertising machine.

  • They should at least give the chance to select between the new rubbish and the old one…

For the phat ones, the PlayStation 3 splash at starting a game, the orchestra sound when booting the console…

    Why Sony, why???? T_T

BTW we want Cross-game-chat and overall in-game custom soundtracks.

  • Only problem so far is the iplayer link hasn’t come up for me. Where it should be on the xmb it isn’t there, don;t know wether this is because sony replaced my ps3 under warrenty with a PS3 that serial number ends in 04 which i heard means it is a european model rather than a UK one.

I’m in the UK and it works fine through the browser, so it would be nice to get it working. Apart from the there are some good points and bad points from the new update.

Some bits look cluttered now like the friends list, but my main concern is getting the iplayer/TV xmb link on.

  • I only miss the PLAYSTATION 3 logo when starting up the game and the sound. All game consoles had / has that, so I don’t know why that had to be removed. Oh well, it ain’t much of a big deal.

Oh and my browser is freezing, especially with NChartz eh.. VGChartz, ehe. Gives an error in javascript and I need to reboost my console.

  • @SOOPERGOOMAN187 you can turn the sparkles off!! Just go to System Settings > Theme > apply the Classic one, there done… no more sparkles for your manly eyes :-P

Whoa… ! The LBP theme changes when the day passes. I’d like to see it when its really getting dark here in Holland in a few hours hehe.

  • make a dynamic theme with rolling clouds and thunder in the background for god of war.

  • I like the new update. I’ve read online how people hate the larger font but I find it easier to read everything now (and I have a 1080p samsung), especially when typing messages. The animating themes are awesome too of course. I imagine that you guys will eventually fill up the grey friend boxes on with info such as Trophies, status, presence text, etc at some point. I do miss the little jingle when starting up a game but not the extra time it took to load it.

I hope to see more news and info update on the What’s New section. If you guys have “play game X with famous person Y” then you should advertise it there.

And lastly, I really want to use my Home avatar on my the XMB.

  • If i go back to Xbox360 is your falt.

    Can you put cross gamechat.
So yea do something about it

  • Nice update! The new theme is beautiful!

  • I can’t say I’m excited over this update. I’m quite disappointed in fact. I sure hope it improves the operating system’s performance, because I can’t say I’m happy about the user interface.

  • My biggest problem with this update, and it is a major one:
There is a shortcut to the video store in the video menu, but whenever I select it, I get a mocking notification about how I can’t access it in my region.
WHY THE HELL IS IT THERE, THEN?

  • I miss the “ding” when you start up a PS3 game and it says “PLAYSTATION 3” Why don’t you just update it with a “PS3” instead and keep the ding of the intro screen?

I also find the grey behind the friends list to be very ugly but the amount of time to check someones profile now has been improved a lot.

The PSN Store where the icons load under the “Games” category takes years to load and the “Whats New” icon isn’t nice looking.

The blur effect when you choose a folder helps to read the white text and same when you read a message and click you have that black screen. Although I don’t think that cursor thing at the end should be on there.

I am dissapointed with the update overall even though there is some improvments. Furthermore, I will miss the ding when you start a PS3 game.

  • I agree with ChocoDK

  • Dynamic Theme –
I love the new dynamic themes. It’s Fresh, Its exciting and I can only imagine what 1st party/3rd Party devs will come up with next. Great Idea. Nothing like this on the market.

    News Ticker (or whatever) –
I think the news ticker up on the right hand corner needs to be redesigned. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why you are doing it and its great. But, perhaps make it more sleek and rounded?? Instead of a box outline? Looks like you guys ran outta time and said “OK how do we make this stand out???”

    Friends List –
Holy Moly Joly….What happened here? Sony, I think you know you screwed up here, so I’m thinkin’ you have a plan. I know it has to do with “Dynamic Avatars” so that leaves me to conclude that this grey’d ugly box will be replace to whatever dynamic avatar we pick out. So, This whole grey box issue could be a default templete to awesome animated goodness. But If I’m wrong, at least fix the friend list. Its….just…wrong

    Start up logo –
    LOVE IT!

    Game Boot Logo –
    :(

    Fonts –
Be nice if we can change the font and size.

  • (continued)…

    And to everyone else –
It seems like X.0 firmware updates set up the groundwork for later versions. They introduce new features in every X.0 update, only to expand on it in later firmwares. Remember 2.0?? It was bleh…but with 2.5 came out, it was “omg yay! in game xmb” So, this is only the beginning…I expect more soon…

Overall, I think this is a great change in terms of making the XMB stylish and unique.

  • Not sure if my post went through but I’ll add to the comments of “I don’t like the friend’s list look” and “the font is big, give us an option”. Everything else is okay to me but the friend’s list and the font is pretty ugly.

  • I like most of what’s new… but a few things need to be addressed.

    1. Let us change the text size back… It just looks bad in 1080p.

    2. If you’re going to put the Store icons under Video and Game, then there is no need to keep another Store icon under Network.

    3. I’m just going to assume that those infamous “gray boxes” in the Friends List are eventually going to hold some kind of information. While that’s all well and good, we should still have the ability to change the color. Even a transparent gray would look better than what’s on there now.

    4. Don’t make me start on the “What’s New” icon. While I’m one of the few who has absolutely no problem with this… I just want the ability for it to start where it left off last time.

Other than that, all looks good. I don’t mind the new startup or even the lack of chimes when starting a game. But those 4 things are major annoyances in my eyes, especially number 1. Pleaseeeeeeeeee address this.

  • Nice update – nothing too exciting feature wise, but I do like the changes. Rather than complaining about the grey friends list, maybe lets try to understand why it looks the way it does. To me it looks like they are preparing some sort of “background” to go on there. Maybe more functional (shows stats) or maybe more graphical. I’m guessing the latter and then they could give out free backgrounds + charge for premium ones. Just my thoughts.

Great job Sony, the release was relatively smooth, I just hope whatever is holding up cross game chat gets resolved one day.

  • -_- dont tell me we can only have one comment on this blog!!! come on Sony but i hate the new update get rid of it or make a setting options to go back to our old one as soon as possible.

  • I would like the option to customize the XMB icons(add or remove etc). If Sony like the PS store Icon so much why not let us open the PS store while playing games?

The gray bars on the friend list looks ugly…but i understand why it was made so don’t remove it.

Need to do more game enchanting things and less with the PSN adds. *cough*skype*cough*

More communication with the guys who make this updates would have avoided all the hateful comments above.

And where the hell are all the “tons of new” avatars? do we have to pay for them?

    That is all…for now.

  • I WANT A “DISABLE ALL SONY ADWARE” FUNCTION …INCLUDEING THE SCROLLING CRAP.

  • @DoGHILLReD Excuse me?! You’re going back to the Xbox 360 only because you don’t like an update? So you didn’t buy a PS3 for all those amazing games that are about to release but you only bought it to look at the Cross Media Bar right?

  • Great update!

  • I own a 40″ Bravia TV.
All of the updates are great!
I can comfortably sit down 6′ away from my TV and navigate the XMB without squinting.
    Keep up the great work.

  • @Roverxk9, indeed, instead of throwing out a can of complaints “think” first before you “act”. Sorry for my many replies here, but I have no moderator on my neck yet pointing at me I should shut up now *lol*.

  • lol Gosh, I wonder what the Sony Gang is doing right now. I bet right now, they are hovering around the computer all looking at the 1500 comments and thinkin’ to themselves “OMFG”

At least that’s what I would be thinking lol.

  • First I was excited with the new update, but taking a closer look at it when it was finally on my system I was in shock!

Don’t care about the new splash boot, what’s new is also nice, but what happened??? The sleek icons are now just big fat blobs on my hd-tv. The friends list looks terrible. Where is the elegance of the previous XMB?

Where did some of the features go? I always enjoyed listening music while i watched my pics. Or when i wanted to change music for the music of the current song to play along.. Is there a way to install the previous firmware and still make use of PSN? Hope you fix these problems really soon!

  • worst update ever!!!
