  • isnt it odd that uncharted is an exclusive ps3 game and everyone had problems with that so they fix uncharted but leave everyone that was having other system problems out to dry.

  • “How about adding a Backup/Copy All Game Saves feature that includes Locked Game Saves. I have close to 20 games now and most games I have 2 or 3 saves, Plus profile and Settings save. They have added up quickly and it is increasingly more tedious to backup every single game save.”

    Yes! I Agree.

  • Thanks. Now that you’ve fixed the problems I didn’t have, allocate some of those resources to fixing the ridiculous design.

  • Wait… so it fixes critical bugs in a number of high profile games, but its an OPTIONAL update? *scratches head*

  • @76 Kenshin71 – I’m well aware of that, but it’s very obvious this means uncharted as Sony mention 1 week ago, they know it’s causing issues with Uncharted 1 and they’re going to roll out a fix soon. I really don’t see why they need to say it when it’s blindingly obvious and even more so when they answers someone.

@110 VitalogyPJ – “Why bother releasing an update fixing only one of the many many problems that 3.0 brought”

Probably cause they said they was going to roll out a fix on the uncharted bug/glitch soon. Stop being annoying ffs, the gray box is there was a reason and you’ll be happy, all of you, when you think about what it’s actually going to turn into.

@186 Infinity – If you bothered to read, this is a feature to fix Stability on some games.

  • I’ve got an 80Gb with 2.8 still running.

I really want to buy the original Silent Hill on PSN, and play multiplayer in GTA:IV.

But I’m frankly too nervous to update after hearing all the horror stories. I’m on chap4 Crushing in Uncharted, don’t want that borked.

I guess some people could have had messed up blu-rays beforehand and are using the firmware upgrade as an excuse to get free repairs, but honestly. I’m thinking of taking cell phone video of the whole update process if I decide to do it because my PS3 is 1.5 years old and I don’t want to pay for repairs if the firmware screws it up.

  • ERIC LEMPEL

This firmware is pointless because there are no improvements…
And some people said their PS3 doesn’t read any discs anymore after this update…

Sony please make a new firmware which responds to what we asked for :

    – Get back the PS3 Chime when we start a PS3 game
    – Make the blur optional for XMB menu
    – Change the font size with an option
    – Delete the PlayStation Store icon in the game menu
    – Bring back the original pure black theme for XMB
    – Change the ugly friendlist

    Hope this will come soon…

  • The idea of an optional firmware update has me worried. I’m beginning to see now how some machines stop working after updates, while the others have no problems. Just make it mandatory.

  • yeah good point .i dont see the ps3 logo when my games start up anymore eather. its not that big of a deal but its an issue.

  • @206
Uncharted is working now and verified.

    Go ahead and update.

As far as all the stories of Borked PS3’s as a result of the update, take them with a grain of salt. One of the other systems fanboy base likes to give us a hard time on forums. Perhaps it’s envy for a system that doesn’t need to be serviced every month and a half.

  • Sony just keep fixing all these bugs cause we dont pay 300 or more for a ps3 so we can be sittng at home starring at a buggy console. 3.01 fixed my problem but theres alot of other people with bricked consoles now cause of the update.

  • Socom Confrontation already had its problems, BUT, since i’ve downloaded 3.01 firmware, it constantly freezing! I haven’t made it past the front end to gameplay since! PLEASE FIX! or add fix to fixes in socom’s 1.6 update.

  • This DOES NOT fix the game freezing on the original backwards compatable 80 gig units. The damage has been done. EXERCISE CAUTION BEFORE DOWNLOADING 3.0 OR 3.01.

  • I have the 40gb white ceramic PS3 and most of the problems with the unreadable discs seems to be affecting the 40gb versions. Can anybody verify this please?

  • N-O-C-T-I-S you’re being an idiot. Posting the same thing multiple times just makes you look like an annoying troll. Grow up.

  • Sorry my comment didn’t appear so I thought it didn’t work that’s why I posted several times ^^

  • Sony ALL DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! the updates really do help

  • Thanks for all of your hard work, SONY!!

Keep up the good work. It’s much appreciated!

  • i have a 80 gig with 4 usb ports and with 3.0 to change the font for the xbm i just went to themes/font/original and it went back to the way it was smaller and nicer

  • i like hw ou guys are responding to hard mouth issues and staying humble at the same time.. I think the frameware update was good i love it, i think you gu get such a hard tme becaue you have other console gamers comng ovr here and they use to one thing, got fat and spoiled on that other console. they dont know son likes to be different, this brand dont follow it leads… With that said.. I hope ou guys at sony do biggger and better each time you set forth to these frame rate up dates .. can wait to see what you gus have in store for us gamers and sony brand.. good luck and best wishe .. mc butz

  • hey sony thanks really a week without cod4 was terrible but this realy helped thanks alot

  • Now i can play uncharter:Drakes Fortume

  • i have only had sony systems i never had any problems this is a major issue just because everyone isnt affected doesnt mean it isnt a big deal i have been on the playstation gamer advisory panel i am not an xbox fanboy i just want to play madden

  • Great update! Thanks!

  • Dear Eric,

I would first like to say that I commend your efforts to get the stability issues of firmware 3.0 out of the way to at least ensure functionality. However, I must unfortunately echo the concerns of many of my fellow PS3 users.

The fundamental issue that many of us have is that while the 3.0 update did indeed change things, it did so in many unnecessary ways that no matter how well the PR department can spin it, we will all find offensive. Among the most notable are:

    1. The multiple PSN store links. Having owned a 60GB unit from late 2006, I can assure you that I have not only been able navigate to the PSN store on my XMB, but I have also bought purchased multiple titles with ease. The additional links create unnecessary clutter that takes away from the simplicity and elegance of my system

    2. The information ticker. In previous versions you had a ticker that was optional and I, like many others, opted to turn it off. Why are we being forced to have the ticker this time around? If anything, it and the additional PSN store links have made me less interested in navigating to the store.

  • 3. The font, fading text and general UI changes. This interface has remained the same since day 1 and changing it in such a way is not effective. This a la carte approach is annoying because many of us have been accustomed to a certain functionality and don’t wish to change how we use our systems. If you were attempting to make a system wide change like the NXE that Microsoft implemented, then that would be a different story. However, I would like to emphasize that making things OPTIONAL is the key here, not making the system less user friendly. The fading fonts is quite possibly the single most annoying feature when navigating through content. Am I supposed to keep things in motion at all times to see what the next video in my list is? Really Sony, did someone who approve this not happen to notice that this is somewhat counter-intuitive?

  • Ever since the beginning of time when the big bang brought life to this universe we have been asking that Sony post change logs so we can see exactly what we’re getting when we update. I mean is that too much to ask for!!! Come on Sony…we don’t need you to tell us this change is going to improve some software stability….we need more details.

  • While there are many other issues that my fellow PS3 users have touched upon, I will not bother to repeat them. The point that I would like to drive home is that I can easily look and change how my computer behaves, and roll back the software if I don’t approve of how a new version behaves. This is the key reason I downgraded back to XP after Vista turned out to be a total failure. Instead of trying to be idealistic and thinking that you know what’s best for the user, please consider the following request: roll back the system software’s appearance to how it was for version 2.80 or at least give the users a means to do so.

  • i also could care less about what it looks like i just want to play it.

  • Uncharted works for me so far.. bit of lagging during cinematics at the beginning but it doesn’t freeze anymore.. at the plane wrecked stage, hope it will keep on working .. finger crossed

  • thanks Sony BTW

  • Hey guys! Sadly I can’t download the update it’s downloading till 61% and then it gives me an erorr message: 8002F99D. The 3.00 version also didn’t worked. What should I do?
    Thanks Raz

  • To 45 (LoneStranger)

It sounds to me like your drive itself has burned out due to the fact its not reading any of your discs. I had a PC drive do that once and I had to replace the drive. I would call Sony and ask if they can repair it.

  • so there are thousands of people whos drives burned up at the same time? that explains everything

  • 228: that is exactly the complaint I have also about the fading fonts. I mean I can live with all the other changes excluding the annoying top right notification. But I can’t stand the fading font and notification bar. We should have options….not force upon us.

  • I wonder what software this might be for.

  • I had my system freeze while playing uncharted a few times on 3.00, but since installing the 3.01 update I cant get Uncharted to play at all. Just trying to start the game my system freezes up with two beeps and a black screen. This started with 3.01. I just wanted to add my voice to the mob. Its not fixxed yet.

Thank you for your continued support on these update issues Sony.

  • 240: oh man…the last time I had beeps and nothing showing on screen I had to send in my ps3. Hope you get it going, but unlikely.

  • Where are the improvements everyone wants?

    – Get back the PS3 Chime when we start a PS3 game
    – Make the blur optional for XMB menu
    – Change the font size with an option
    – Delete the PlayStation Store icon in the game menu
    – Bring back the original pure black theme for XMB
    – Change the ugly friendlist

    Clean up this mess Sony,
or I’m sure that many people are getting
    angry and e.g. buy a XBOX360,
cause Microsoft is listening to what “WE” say. But Sony doesn’t.

  • I’m afraid we’ll have to wait for a very long time to get GUI fixed… Not to mention music playback (don’t force us to use 48 kHz – DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!).

    Mister Eric Lempel,

REALLY do something about this – QUICKLY. I know you ain’t coding the thing but you’re the director so either make them fix all the issues that came with 3.0 quick or just let us have a feast out of your flesh!

  • ok now im having problem with my browser every time i go to a wesdite it freezes n i have to reboot my ps3 it started happening with the 3.0 n still happening with 3.1 firmware

  • I’m tired of the people who complain about the complainers. If nobody said anything then Sony would think everyone was happy. It takes a lot of complaining before they realize exactly how displeased people are, so all you anti-complainers keep quiet because you can only contribute to making things worse.

  • who seriously complains about “the missing chime” before a game loads up? really!? wow.

  • Hey ERIC, quit messing around, you should be out a job for making this firmware dude.

I could make better changes, let Sony give me YOUR job so I can make the people who PAY FOR EVERYTHING you own happy for once.

  • Dont forget about the changes we want!

That is all I’m going to say

  • Congrats to the Uncharted owners, but like a lot of other people have said, we need a quick fix to the borked 3.0 design!

    1. Bring back the original font size!!
    2. Remove the stupid fading text above and below highlighted items when browsing media!
    3. I don’t want anything other than a date and clock in the top right corner. What’s with the ugly small icons?? Make stuff like that optional!

The first two are key problems that, if not fixed ASAP, will force me to ditch my PS3 because they make it incredibly annoying to use it as a mediacenter. Sony, all you have to do is make the pre-3.0 interface an option and we’ll all be happy again…

  • The main problem that needs to be addressed here is the disc drive issue, that’s a MAJOR problem, and I’m sure it’ll be fixed in due time.

But I can’t believe people are [DELETED] about trivial things like clocks and icons.

What shocks me here the most is taht people are saying they are willing to give up their PS3’s and go over to another console due to things like missing “startup chimes” and info ticker.

Grow the hell up and play the actual games, rather then getting worked up over XMB features.

I for one like all the new features in the XMB, but seeing as I spend 5% of my gaming time looking at the XMB, it doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

Sure the grey boxes arent’ too apealing to the eye but I’m sure a remove option will be on the way soon enough.
