Lost Planet 2 Co-Op Demo Coming to PSN September 24

Brian Keltner's Avatar Posted by PR Manager, Capcom

Hello PlayStation Blog! Capcom is offering PlayStation 3 owners a chance to experience a piece of the Tokyo Game Show action from the comfort of their own living rooms this year by offering the Lost Planet 2 demo available exclusively for download from PSN starting the first day of the show. Beginning September 24, PS3 owners will not only be able to engage in the frantic battle against the enormous G-Type Akrid, the boss Akrid of the episode 1, but will also get the exclusive experience of two additional missions in an online co-operative extermination of the Akrid of E.D.N. III.

LP2 Coop Screen (1)

Throughout the demo players will run into Akrid ranging from small (in Lost Planet terms) to enormous, as they fight to collect the precious thermal energy contained within the Akrids bodies in order to heal themselves, their friends, and power the armored Vital Suits. Utilizing a number of weapons from machine guns to missile pods and rocket launchers scattered throughout the environment, teams of four players can join up via the PlayStation Network and clear three mission objectives with friends, giving them a glimpse into the jungle of E.D.N III.

In order to promote cooperative gameplay, players can share life-giving thermal energy amongst injured members of their squad while new support weapons allow teammates to boost attack and defense capabilities. Additionally, the new dash feature allows players to sprint for short distances, bringing greater speed to combat.

LP2 Coop Screen (9)

LP2 Coop Screen (3)

The true firepower of Lost Planet comes from the heavily armed and armored robotic Vital Suits as they return in greater numbers and variety than the first game. Players now have the ability to hold up to three players as they make their way through varied environments in the game.

Lost Planet 2 is the first game to make use of Capcom’s updated proprietary game engine, MT Framework 2.0. Rendering dynamic lighting in beautiful massive environments, previous versions of MT Framework have been used on games like Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4.

For those new to the world of Lost Planet, Lost Planet 2 takes place on the planet of E.D.N. III, 10 years after the events of the first game. Terraforming efforts have melted the icy terrain of the first game and given way to revealing lush tropical jungles and harsh deserts. Players will enter this new environment and follow the exploits of their own customized snow pirate on their quest to seize control of the changing planet.

LP2 Coop Screen (7)

Capcom is also releasing the newest trailer on PSN the same day as the Lost Planet 2 demo. Previously only having shown the jungle and city environments, the new TGS trailer gives you a glimpse of the new desert environment and even bigger Akrid than seen before.

We hope you enjoy the demo and newest trailer! Make sure to look for more news and information about Lost Planet 2 coming over the next few months to the PlayStation Blog!

Wow, just downloaded the the Uncharted 2 demo yesterday, getting in on the MAG beta thursday, NingaGaidenSigma2 demo next week, and Lost Planet 2 coming out of No Where!!! Whew what a way to end the month! You know, Capcom gets a lot of flack but as long as they’re putting out a good game I’ll buy it. If not, than they won’t get my support. Simple as that.
I do have a question though, many people around here are wondering if split screen is available. Will it?
Guess I’ll have to find out later.

I’m also one of the many gamers that really resent Capcom for not making a PS3 Monster Hunter with the lame excuse of “not having enough money”, while a few months later they turn around and port LP1 to PS3 which was a mediocre 360 game that most PS3 owners had NO interest in what-so-ever. It was a total waste of money for Capcom that COULD have went to at least a PS3 port of MH 3.

That being said…..LP2 looks LIGHTYEARS beyond LP1 in every single way, and graphically looks like it belongs on PS3. And with the way the online is very Monster Hunter-esque, I may have to lift my Capcom resentment boycott for this game. REALLY looking forward to the demo.

MT2.0 looks to be a great engine, and looks PERFECT for Monster Hunter. PLEASE start working on a PS3 Monster Hunter right now using this engine.

I love the focus on the organic look of the environments and creatures. Some of the glow/light maps could be a little more subtle, though.

I have been really into 4 player co-op ever since Ghostbusters came out, so I’m excited to try another game that implements this.

Some questions:
1. What native resolution does the game render in? If 720p (or less), are you using FSAA?

2. Will the game include 24-bit audio assets for those of us whose systems support LPCM or DTS?

3. Are any of the playable characters gay (male or female)? For that matter, are there any playable characters that are non-stereotypical female?

Looking forward to the demo, thanks!

And here I thought Capcom spoiled me on the 360 with that LP2 demo by throwing me and 3 friends, with a bunch of mechs & weapons vs one of the bosses in the game from start to end. And now they’re back to tell me that they’re bringing that demo here but with even more content. You shouldn’t have Capcom, you’re too kind ;)

I nominate Lost Planet 2 Demo for Demo of the Year 2009 ;D

SWEET. I’m all over this. Especially now that Capcom’s taking the sequel seriously.

thanks for the extended exclusive demo Capcom!

Really looking forward to trying out part 2. I didn’t think the first one was all that bad, and the sequel looks much improved.

Capcom made such great *single* player games like Devil May Cry and Onimusha last gen.

Why are Capcom discriminating against the single player this gen?

I would just really like to point out that this demo has been out now on the 360 for almost a month, & there is NO darn reason good enough that any one came come up with to a reason why this DEMO was not released on the Ps3 at the same time. Hear US, we are SICK of that type of crap already.

@ Brian Keltner

Cited from Post #109
“Some questions:
1. What native resolution does the game render in? If 720p (or less), are you using FSAA?
2. Will the game include 24-bit audio assets for those of us whose systems support LPCM or DTS?”

Please answer those questions. Particularly the one pertaining to the native resolution of the game. I noticed that the “original” image sizes of the screenshots are at 2560 x 1440, so I’m interested if this game is going to be full 1080p or possibly… higher?!

Keep up the good work Capcom. Looks like you’re building another great franchise. MT Framework 2 is looking nice too.

P.S. – if you made a special edition of LP2 that comes with a T-ENG backpack…. well you all know how well the Prestige Edition of Modern Warfare 2 is doing, right? *wink wink nudge nudge*

LOL. People that complain that games HAVE coop are people that don’t play well with others. Coop is so much fun with friends especially when they are sitting right next to you. Army of Two was a blast with a buddy. (Better than the AI) I mean RE5 was perfected with coop. More coop! More fun!
