Wow, thx Sony. Wish I would have known about the 250GB before I got the 120GB. It would have gave me more memory and you all some more money being that I had to spend the $299 to buy the 120GB because your 40GB stop working on me and had to have it shipped back to Sony in TX, twice and of course you wouldn’t fix it the third time it broke down on me because of your wonderful Warranty plan. Thank God for Best Buy and there Warranty plan this time, but I still love ya. XOXOXOXO Just do something for the little people for a change. You wouldn’t be able to make any new game console without us the people buying your product.
I think 120GB is already ridiculous, who needs 250GB worth of games and music etc? also, the psp go is terrible, it has a smaller screen then the 2000 and 3000 and it can do exactly everything the 2000 and 3000 can do, you can just get a 16GB memory stick for 40 bucks, and presto! and with the psp slim being only 170, its a lot cheaper then the 250 go. Also, with a slim, you can still play the UMDs you own that sony failed to put on the store, or download them, and as if the psp slim isn’t already portable enough, c’mon.
THIS PS3 WITH 250 IS BAD@$$ BUT SONY SHOULD WORK ON MAKING ALL PS3 BACKWARD COMPACTIBLE AND ESPECIALLY THIS WITH 250GB OF STORAGE

While I’m glad there’s a PS3 coming out with upgraded storage I’m still bummed about the lack of backwards compatability. I know its kind of a null point as a PS2 can be picked up anywhere for around 60 bucks, but still it is a bummer. I just had to put my 80gb- backwards compatible-with all kinds of memory support in for servicing and I am holding onto it forever (or until it breaks another time or two, then it might be mass effect time)
yeah a uncharted II bundle would be nice,or even God of War I&II bundle

Sony, please sell the PS3 without HDD for $250 and let us choose what size we want on it, there’s a lot of places where you can get a 500GB HDD for $80/90. That easy…

Funny, but with 10 minutes worth of work and far less than $250, I upgraded my PS3 to 500 gigs months ago. And since I got the MGS4 bundle, mine plays most of my PS2 games, as well. Slap the old PS3 hard drive in an enclosure on top of that, and poof! you even get a portable hard drive to boot. Rather than waiting for this package, I’d be looking at a Game Exchange for a used system you can upgrade yourself. But that’s just me.
I don’t know about the slims. Personally I like the shine of my 120 GB. I got it for Christmas last year along with Uncharted and I love it.
Along with the two year service plan that I got with it, I have no reason to upgrade to a 250 GB hard drive, or a slim for that matter.
I bought the 120 slimline…no I feel like an idiot! Is there anyway it can be upgraded to the 250 hard drive? HELP…Thanks
couple questions:
1. will it be fully backward compatible (with the better emotion engine as well) like some of the 60gig’s are?
2. will it have the memory slots like the few select PS3’s do (i.e. sd, xd, cf, etc)
3. will those of us be able to exchange it (like ATI does with older video cards for newer ones) to sony for some credit towards a new slim 250gig? and in the process of exchanging with sony, they migrate your gamedata/saves/etc to the new 250gig as maybe an extra $15 or 20 bucks?
Hopefully they give some DLC or somethin to go with it too to help promote it. hopefully.

as far as i know all the PS3’s use a 2.5″ laptop sized hardrive. all you should need to do is look here on playstation’s site for the migration/backup tutorial and poof…ur gtg. also, check up at #215 with wakener’s comment about upgrading. hope it helps.

To me and few of my friends its not worth the money to pay 50$ (could be a new game? worth) to get just the console and all you know?.

When I bought my PS3 7 months ago, I bought a 250gig HD and stuck it in myself. lots of room. of course, it’s cheaper than back when I paid for it!

I am assuming that Sony is doing this to give competition to the CoD MW2 edition Xbox that is going to be 250gb as well.

I like the idea of you guys expanding your horizons, but you’re leaving your valued customers that were with you through the PS, PS2, and now PS3 eras in the dust, why not come out with a backwards compatible version of these “new releases” I’d buy one then… so would alot of other people I know… I’ve had complaints like crazy at work because of these new systems not being backwards compatible… if you make it, they will buy it guys, think of loyalty, and you will be rewarded, I can guarantee it.

Am I just being skeptical of changing out the HDD myself or is it REALLY a good idea? I can’t help but imagine that the PS3 owners that have all of these issues with their hardware are the same people that went tampering with their HDD’s. If I can’t get it boxed by Sony and a nice pretty price tag on it, then you can count me out. I don’t think playing Macgeyver with your PS3 is the way to go. It costs enough as it is… Why risk doing something that will void your warranty?

Yea Um!! Everyone that’s complaining about the 250gb being only 50 bucks more is crazy. By the way I purchased a 500gb HDD Western Digital on sale on Amazon.com for $89, I feel great and I works great!! No worries I suggest everyone to buy a Hard Drive that best suits their needs instead of buying a whole new system. Especially if you are like me and own the backwards comp version of the PS3. When Sony said that the PS3 will last for a long time they weren’t kidding as long as we keep getting updates and swappable hard drives I am good!!! Thanks Sony!!!
Actually ATM-SPYRO you don’t void your warranty if you tamper with you PS3 Hard drive. But that’s how far you can go with it. This is just one blue screw and after that it is sooooo easy to remove the hard drive just slides right out!!! Once you put the new SATA 2.5 inch hard drive all to do next is format the drive which is selected in your system settings menu. MAKE SURE you back up your last Hard drive in order for you to transfer your data on to the new HDD. An external HDD will work just fine to do this with.
Now what sony has to do is try to incorporate the PSP GO into the PS3. Like using the new bluetooth enabled device to act like a controller for the PS3. Just think about how much better it would be if your playing a game like Madden NFL and your playbook will be at the palm of you hands instead of the screen!! Please Sony think of a way to do this not for only this game but for every new game that comes out for the PS3. This will also work wonders for your sales in general. Thanks again SONY!!!!

I sent it to Sony under warranty repair and they sent me another unit (refurbished I think). It lasted a few months with little use and now it won’t read any disc at all. Now my unit is out of warranty and Sony wants me to spend $200 to get it fixed. Two systems in 18 months and there is no guarantee the third will be any better. I just want to thank Sony for taking care of its customers. I think I’ll take my $200 and buy an Xbox 360 and use my PS3 for firewood.
for the holidays include games with this.. such as mw2, kz2, r2, or u2. they will sell tonnssss.. and maybe the red/blue controller with it

Why is everyone feeling they got jipped do to the new release? Take the 50 dollars you save and go buy a 320gb hd or just spend a little more and buy a 500gb western digital scorpio blue that only cost around 80 from best buy like I did. online you can also get the western digital 640gb hd for around 120 doollars. Personly if they would have offered an 80gb slim for fifty less I would most definatley buy it instead since I had already planned to do the swap. the best part is that it is totally acceptable mod to do preserveing our warranties. It was very easy to do and after downloading the update it was ready to go in about 20 minutes. also does anyone know were I can get an extra hd tray I would like to modify one for the new western digital 1tb 2.5 scorpio blue hds available. so all you people that are upset. look at the bright side. The original hd’s are cheap in my opinion.
