Welcome to the PlayStation Nation

President & CEO

Nearly half a million of you purchased a PS3 in September. Amazing. Welcome to the PlayStation Nation and to what will be one of our best holidays yet.

We are in the midst of one of the most exciting times for PlayStation as we continue to redefine entertainment experiences for consumers, both at home and on the go. Over the past few weeks we’ve launched several game-changers such as the sleek 120GB PS3 at a new price point of $299. We’ve also introduced more storage capacity with the 250GB PS3, debuting November 3 at $349. We’ve made unprecedented strides in digital and mobile entertainment with the availability of PSPgo. Last week we launched the critically acclaimed UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves which is receiving rave reviews. The best part is that we’ve only just begun an onslaught of relentless, rich content hitting throughout the fiscal year, including Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, God of War III, MAG, and ModNation Racers.

We’re also seeing tremendous response to the great value of the newer, slimmer, lighter 120GB PS3 system, which surpassed its one million unit mark worldwide just after three weeks on shelves. In NPD Group‘s September 2009 video game sales data, released today, the PS3 ranked as the top console sold for the month, beating out all our competitors. It was also the only hardware platform to realize an increase of 112% when compared to the same period last year.

The PSPgo is driving additional momentum for the entire PSP platform. In its first three days on store shelves, top retail partners experienced a 300 percent lift in overall PSP hardware sales compared to the previous week. During this time, the PlayStation Network also experienced the largest number of downloads ever for a single week period. In addition, the new 250GB PS3 will provide the ample storage needed for what is expected to be a big Blu-ray holiday with blockbuster releases like Transformers 2, Star Trek and Hangover. And we’re continuing to stack the chips this holiday with great game content including God of War Collection, LittleBigPlanet – Game of the Year Edition as well as popular third party titles like Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin’s Creed 2.

If you haven’t already experienced UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves for yourself, this is a must-have this season. The Naughty Dog team has delivered a truly visually stunning and immersive game that is clearly only possible on the PS3. It has garnered an average review score of 96 with over 64 perfect scores by game reviewers. This game promises to be a system seller for PlayStation and we couldn’t be more pleased.

There simply has never been a better time to be part of the PlayStation family and we look forward to providing you with the best entertainment content and experience for many, many years to come.

In the rules, it says a list of the winners will be posted here, and on Naughty Dog’s website, between this Friday and Oct. 30th. And you’ll also get an email from the sponsor if you win, in that same time frame. Only thing I don’t like about this is where it says, “Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery of the prize.”

I guess there’s a lot of stuff included in this, but still! Does it really take that long? Heck, I’m still waiting on my Club Nintendo calendar I earned 3 or 4 months ago for being a Gold member! Well, if it does take that long, it will make a great holiday gift!

What’s up Jack! I think this is great news for the PS3, people can now buy it since it’s now at an affordable price,

anyway, I am enjoying Uncharted 2 and can’t wait for R&C future: A Crack in Time next week.

Now, if we got some games that

1) Weren’t re-releases of PS2 games!

2) Were actually complete, instead of selling us 3/4 of the game on disc and the last 1/4 as DLC

3) Put out some collections of PSN games on Blu-Ray

The PS3 would be worth owning.

My 60gb is a very expensive PS2.

I heard voice cross game chat is coming. besides why does everyone want this feature, barely anyone uses or haves the headset. I only use it for Uncharted 2 co-op modes. ( which is a great game) Sony should bundle the headset so more people can chat.

We are not worthy.

So happy for Sony and SCEA and SCEE that the PS3 is now showing people that it’s the best and cannot be matched.

Uncharted 2 is godlike. It’s everywhere across forums and gaming websites. Everyone is talking about how good it is. Naughty Dog owns all devs. Looking forward to the third. God of war 3 and GT5 need to drop jaws and they will.

Thank you Mr. Tretton. Uncharted 2 truly is one of the best games ever created. In the PS1 days I remembered Metal Gear Solid. PS2 days I remembered Shadow of the Colossus. But for the PS3 days I’m always going to remember Uncharted 2.

That’s why I bought a PS3. Because every generation there’s always that one game that comes from the PS that completely blows me away leaving an imprint on my memory.

And yes I contributed to one of the PS3 Slim sales here in the U.S. haha

Do you guys ever plan on putting up sales figures of PSP games over the PSN network?

According the latest NPD, apparently GT PSP Sold 18,000 copies at retail. That is ridiculously low, so I am wondering how many copies of it were downloaded.

Motorstorm PSP apparently did 2,600.

Improved profile page with FACEBOOK-like features (photos, better trophy display, game stats)

Better HOME integration w XMB — at least the abilty to use a pic of ur HOME avatar as ur PSN avatar.

Jacko, Jacko, Jacko…

How about getting PSX/PSP games on the PSN store at least… three of them a week? Sound do-able?

RPGs on PSP/PSX/PS3 esp. would sell.

Get Capcom to bring the Europe version of Breath of Fire 3 (which is in English) over for the PSP on PSN or at least twist Capcom’s arm to put Breath of Fire 3/4 on the PSN store (speaking of which: Where is Biohazard 2/3: Last Escape? Those were supposed to be out this summer? It’s now Fall.)

Also get some minis on the store, pronto. I feel bad for PSP Go owners since the store is barely updating for digital content in the US for them to actually feel good dropping $200 on the system when they could’ve gotten a PSP a 4-8 gig stick and nearly had the same functionality as the Go (minus 8 gigs internal memory) for less.

AKA: Do more. Less bone-headed and Sony will do good. It seems you’re starting to realize this with the PS3 Slim rebranding, as it’s bringing in sales now.

What an honor to be able to post on a thread created by Jack Trenton. This is what Sony is all about, unlike those other video game companies. I feel like the company I’ve supported since 1998 actually cares about me. Here’s to nothing but success in the future for us the consumers, and hopefully Sony is just scratching the surface for things to come.

Welcome to all the newest Sony hardware owners, and if not yet, it will not take long to realize this is where the real gamers are.
