God of War Collection Ships November 17th, Plan Your Trophy Hunt Now!

Anthony Caiazzo's Avatar Posted by Senior Product Marketing Manager, SCEA

Still wondering when you’ll be able to get your hands on the God of War Collection? Well, wait no more. The God of War Collection has gone gold! Fans can look forward to playing God of War and God of War II in stunning HD just a couple of weeks from now as the God of War Collection will officially be shipping to a retail store near you on NOVEMBER 17! Oh wait…there’s more…we’re also here to unveil all of the trophy goodies you have been waiting for!

God of War Collection packfront

To give you the low-down on how the trophies were picked, here is some insight from God of War III Design Director, Todd Papy

Other than all the visual improvements that we added to the God of War Collection, the most exciting part for me was the opportunity to go back and add in full trophy support for both games. Not only will the trophies hopefully be an enjoyable way to check your progress through the game, but they will also give the hard-core God of War fans some serious additional bragging rights. And on a more personal level, the trophies were a really great opportunity for us to share some of our stories and inside jokes from God of War and God of War II.

One of the trophies that I was really happy to finally be able get out there was “Speed of Jason McDonald.” At the end of making God of War, the combat designers were doing speed runs of the game, and soon enough, friendly wagers started springing up around the office to see who could post the best time. Jason McDonald, currently a Sr. Combat Designer on God of War III, blew them all away. He still has, a couple God of War games later, the two dollars in winnings tapped proudly to his computer monitor.

Something very similar happened when we started testing the God of War II trophy “15 Min Fight Scene.” The fight outside the Loom Chamber is one of the more polarizing moments in the game. A lot of people really enjoyed the long marathon battle, while other’s thought it was maybe too tough of a challenge. This fun vs. frustration became even clearer when the office stopped working on God of War III one afternoon to get together and watch as team member after team member tried to get through the fight in record time. Judging by the cheering that occurred when the aforementioned Jason McDonald was knocked out of the lead spot, I would say fun won the day.

Another challenging spot that we wanted to highlight with the “You Got the Touch!” trophy was the Spiked Column in Hades from God of War. After playtesting repeatedly, David Jaffe asked me to tone down the difficulty and make it easier for the final shipped game. Ironically, even after all that, it wound up being one of the most talked about sections, and not always for the best reasons. I think one of the problems is that a lot of people try to blast their way through and get it over with as fast as possible. That’s a sure fire way to get Kratos sliced up. The trick was always taking your time to think about what your next move was going to be. Throw in a couple deep breaths, and I think a lot of people will be able to make it through without taking damage and earn the trophy.

In the end, all of us hope that you have as much fun earning the trophies as we did designing them.

I never played GOW games until I got it for PSP. I thought it was a great series and I’m glad I’m going to be able to continue to play it and view the rest of the story in HD on my PS3! Cause the PSP one is suppose to be a prequel, I guess i’m playing them in proper order lol!

Are these trophies applicable to any difficulty? Also, GOW2 trophies, do they apply only to Normal play or Bonus Play [newGame+] too?

I think if my previous runs are anything to go by, all trophies can be unlocked in a single run of Normal mode, except for GOW2 Max Out Weapons trophy [Blow your Wad], URN trophy, challenge trophies and maybe 15 minute fight scene.

All trophies can be earned at any difficulty and during a Normal or Bonus Playthrough. In fact some can only be acquired in Bonus Play such as the \”Feel the Urn\” trophy.

Can’t wait.

Why on earth couldn’t this be released in the EU ?, just doesn’t make sense, EU gets screwed out of an amazing title again.

Thanks Sony.

Will God of War Collection include subtitles options? ‘Cos it was unplayable for Deaf & Hard of hearing Gamers to follow story line of God & God 2.

If it doesn’t come with subtitles, will they provide a subtitles patch for this God of War Collection?

‘Cos I’d like to play these games as I was told that it was critically aclaimed by reviewers

Nice trophies, any chance of making a Metal Gear Solid collection since some people never were able to play the first games…?

Hi Everyone,

I have doubts I’d get a reply from Santa Monica on this Blog.

I myself, found one post by a deaf person requesting if subtitles were in the game. Santa Monica replied it will not be. I am deaf myself, and i also have another deaf friend who was so excited to consider purchasing this.

After all this time, looking forward to this game has changed my mind because. Today most games all features, and many blockbuster games typically include are subtitles. I really thought it will be included in such a huge game/collection, especially being remastered, high def.

Uncharted included subtitles for the game, plus interviews etc in the extra features make it an equal opportunity for us deaf gamers and hearing alike.

Either I hope for one thing, they could patch subtitle support, or I may never buy this game.

I beg of you all developers, please don’t forget about us deaf gamers!!!

Thanks for reading,
One disappointed deaf gamer

I downloaded the trailer @ 1080p from the gow site, then pass it through media server to my ps3 and watch it on 1080p glory, at the same time, same TV, different video channel I was playing the original GOW on my ps2, plugged through component RGB cables, running at progressive scan mode.
Then switched from trailer video to original ps2 game.
The difference is HUGE, will purchase even if I already have both ps2 games.

You’re going down Jason McDonald! Allthough, it would be nice to know what difficulty he beat the game on in that short of time?

I guess it won’t, but will the ps2 version saving work on this BD version?
Or will we have to (re)start as if it’s the first time?

Played GOW & GOW2 on PS2. Highly recommended for those that haven’t played it, but I can’t justify buying it again – especially since everything is the same.

Just wondering but will a demo ever be released for God of War III on PSN?

Can’t wait for this recollection though.

Thanks for the info! I have both games and I have a BC PS3, so I already get the “smoothing” (antialiasing?).

I wish Santa Monica studios would do the comparison so that other people would see the difference.

Otherwise it’s hard to justify buying the same games again.

subtitle?? becz I am deaf. Original gow 1 and gow 2 have no subtitle. Let me know if gow collection has subtitle ASAP. Thanks.

William Weissbaum replied on October 27, 2009 at 4:07 pm
Unfortunately, the God of War Collection will not have subtitles.

Let me add my voice to the chorus expressing disappointment at a lack of subtitles in this game. I was unable to enjoy the first two God of War games because they did not have a subtitle option. I had high hopes for this collection, as I had figured that it would be easy for the developers to add subtitles along with the other enhancements. I see now that I was incorrect.
According to the National Association of the Deaf, 10% of the American population is deaf or hearing-impaired. Why on earth would Sony want to freeze out 10% of their potential audience? Are they not interested in their money?
Epic accessibility fail, Sony. This was a chance to present the series to a broader audience. I am canceling my pre-order not only for this game, but God of War 3 as well. What is the point of playing what could very well be a stunning conclusion to the series if I was unable to experience the backstory leading up to it?

October 29th, 9:58 am

i’ve been in love with GOD OF WAR ever since it came out… i have played it so many times on my ps2 and will play a whole lot more on ps3. really loved what they did with the trophies not too easy not too hard.
its gonna be epic.

is there a demo for GoW3 on this or do you have to pre-order 3 to get the demo?

NewOlman said:

I don’t know why everybody is so happy about the trophies. God of War 1 and 2 are so good that you didn’t need any trophies back then to replay it and surely you don’t need them know

God of War is the best Action game series, period. There’s no need for trophies, all you need to know is that you’re gonna play the best cinematographic games ever! God of war is so well designed that no movie is necessary about it because the game itself tells the story in a way that no movie will ever be able to do it

I will get this for sure, I cannot wait. The only thing I thing this collection is missing is the Chains of Olympus. I know it was made by Ready at Dawn, but if it had it there then it would be a definitive GOW collection. I would love to play CoO on my ps3 instead of using the small screen of the psp or connecting the psp to the tv

but anyhow, GOOD GOOD GOOD JOB SANTA MONICA STUDIO! I will always love your games! keep it up! And I hope you gift us a new exciting IP in a near future!!!

– I don’t understand why this was a gold trophy. On the whole, a good chance for everyone to increase their overall trophy count.
