Hi everyone, here’s an early peek at PlayStation 3 (PS3) firmware update (v3.10). The latest update incorporates Facebook into the PS3 experience. By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3’s built-in web browser.
This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.
Additional highlights from update 3.10 include:
- The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.
- The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback we received after update 3.00. Additionally, you can now choose a color for your PSN ID on the XMB.

-get the ps3 more visualizations when playing music
-get apps like myspace last.fm and vidzone to NA for the ps3
-allow playlists for videos
-make getting to messages received easier from xmb/in-game xmb (press select)
-allow ps3s to share media files (local or worldwide) would be AWESOME
-send voice messages
-cross-game chat
-have all games use the Uplay idea from Assassin’s Creed 2 as a standard from now on :D
-2012 movie screening in PS Home (great movie by the way)
Now that netflix is available will Sony be offering a monthy streaming service for is video on demand network… alot of the tv shows and cartoons on the playstation network seem better than whats on netflix. If thats the case of the new subscription service im all for it. i’ll cancel my satellite service and netflix :D
I saw that the Europe version got some cool new internet TV features…. why does North America still not get these capabilities? Windows Media Center already has the capability.. also, I am still praying for a release of PlayTV for North America… it shouldn’t be that difficult to tweak the other version for basic ATSC / ClearQAM (you don’t have to worry about the scrambled channels). Thanks for listening to my griping! :-(
small suggestion for the facebook feature, in facebook you should be able to click the trophy post and goto your PSN badge or trophy details.

Dammit, Sony! The new photo matrix view doesn’t work with media servers! You thought we wouldn’t notice? Please fix this! And while you’re at it, add caching of thumbnails. And why not show movies in a similar matrix view? Some people might find it handy to be able to toggle between list and grid view from the triangle button menu, right below the Sort By entry.
Another useful feature I *really* miss would be the option to flag images while viewing them, and later delete or copy these pre-selected images. Flagging should be possible while viewing the actual image, and could easily be done without menu-fuss simply by using dpad up/down/right/left to toggle four different flags. This would be great while previewing holiday photos and sorting out the bad ones.
And finally, please delete that horrible Photo Gallery application. Just.. delete and pretend it never existed…

Well,I started the updated, then what do you F’n know my PS3 just crashed, is it because I have the original 60gig PS3, and how much will it cost to fix it, I am very very bummed.

I have a few ideas i think everyone will like.
-Enable the chat room for microphones for intergame talk.
-Mark some photos/music/videos private so only your account can access them.
-Pin/password protect your profile to stop family members accessing it.
Not a fb user myself though so this update has been a pain for me because updates on ps3 take forever. :(
Will they ever increase the friends list amount again?
Also, they just included the How many friends are on-line # in the previous release, how about ###/### where the First ### is number on-line and the second ### is total number of friends.

Hey, you said the internet browser would be updated to make Facebook run better! It still runs just as crappilly as it ever did. WTF?
The new firmware seems to have broken the steaming video on the playstation blog, along with a a few other streaming video sites i visit. This kind sucks.
can you please make the ps3 more like the xbox in the fact that on xbox you can chat with your friends, and multiple ones at a time without being in the same game or without playing a game at all. sometime i want to chat with my friends while im putting in a game to play with them or just while we are both on our playstations. this is a very easy thing to accomplish just please do it.

I really wonder if Sony will ever pull its head out and actually address the issues with the PS3 instead of adding absolutely useless features. It’s a game console, not a PC.
This has been an awesome week for the PSN. The God of War 3 demo is incredible and the facebook feature is excellent. Please let us update our FB status from the PS3, this could be done from the comment section on the user profile. Even if it is short its still letting us update our FB status from the PS3, even when we aren’t unlocking trophies and purchasing items.

The Facebook feature is nice to have, but i’m one of those people who got bored of Facebook & myspace a long time ago. So this feature is pretty much useless to me.
I’d would have rather seen you guy’s work on adding more visualizations for when you are playing music on your ps3. i’m pretty sure a lot of people agree with me this would be at the top of they’re list with cross game chat.
I do appreciate what you guys do though don’t get me wrong, I’ll take a new firmware update any time 8) The update to the friends section look’s 10x better, and with the cool new colors you guys did right.

Great stuff guys the update is really good, but yet again i am letft wondering when oh when we are going to get in game chat. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO CHAT TO PEOPLE ON OTHERS GAMES WHILE I AM ON MINE! would you please please please put this in the next update it will be highly appreciated. Good update. Thank you : )
absolutley pointless apart from the video store why isnt there a facebook icon instead of having to go through the browser and whats happened to the bbc iplayer icon its gone off my system all we want is cross xmb chat but you keep giving us stuff we dont need like the text chat system never used it no one does pants sought it out before its to late people are angry . i wait for your response eric where is cross private chat
PS3 needs 4 things…
1. Skype!
2. A better way to choose movies, auto download film descriptions and movie covers, Have you guys seen MediaPortal(Moving Pictures), that would be Ace!
3. The ability for me to post Internet shortcuts on the XMB, if i want quick access to a site it would be reat to pick is straight from the menu.
4. Finally…. for Play TV Users, a way to set recordings remotely, without starting the PS3 or starting Play TV itself, just like the sky service!

FYI Sony. It seems sub accounts can’t use the facebook option that is part of this firmware update. I use a sub account as my primary PSN user and I don’t have the facebook option under account management. When I log in to my master account I have the facebook option. Help.

Alot of stuff and i thank you for you hard work in pleasing us. The only thing I love from the psp is Sence Me. If you put this on the ps3 XMB its a wrap. Along with Netflix also. I do wish my ps3 slim played old ps2 and ps1. Since you HD the old stuff onto ps3 blueray fromat that work for me Thank you.

Yeah, seems like sub-accounts can’t use the Facebook feature. My account is unfortunately a sub-account, and I hope Sony fixes this along with the flash video problem that people are having. Maybe make 3.11 an optional update that fixes this? Here’s to hoping Sony reads these messages.
So when are we gonna get some sort of equalizer for my music…some more rewind and fast forward speeds for music (5x and 10x)…and MOST OF ALL — resume play for my music…JUST LIKE THE PSP… we’ve been asking for this since 2006
and maybe an internet radio like the psp….there hasn’t been an update geared to the ps3 music in months.

It sounds like a good idea but I do agree that music has been slightly neglected on the ps3. I think even a new visualiser or the ability to download new visualisers(possibly whitecap) would be great, I mean the space theme visualiser was released in 2007 if im not mistaken! And I think a lot of people use their ps3s for music players sometimes.

I guess this is the same excuse you have when you enabled portable PSN IDs. You don’t have control of those servers. Why can’t a 30yr old use his sub account with Facebook? Because he uses a sub account? Why can’t I delete my main account and make my sub account my main? Oh because Sony doesn’t have control of SONY servers?
