Hi everyone, here’s an early peek at PlayStation 3 (PS3) firmware update (v3.10). The latest update incorporates Facebook into the PS3 experience. By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3’s built-in web browser.
This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.
Additional highlights from update 3.10 include:
- The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.
- The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback we received after update 3.00. Additionally, you can now choose a color for your PSN ID on the XMB.

my profile doesn’t work on my ps3, every time I want see my profile it sync’s the trophy’s but it stop at like 13%, I’ve heard things about it saying that Modern Warfare 2 and Uncharted 2 caused this so can you guys fix it.

Hey, Playstation. Lets get Cross game chat. and the ability to be able to sync up two psn accounts so if we want to get a new psn we can transfer our trophies, because its dumb that we can’t
I am downloading this update as I type this. Looks pretty cool. This is kind of a minor thing but are there any plans on adding more avatars or those premium ones that don’t exist in the store yet? I hope they add more regular ones because most of them are kinda just cheesy clipart. Maybe the option to add your own somehow? Just sayin…the avatar’s aren’t a big deal, but it would be nice to have more options anyhow. Thnx

Such a waste of development. Where’s my ingame music? Where’s support for H.264/MPEG-4 AVC? Where’s downloadable movies and TV shows for Canadian markets? Why not just make the browser better for every website. This is just a ploy to prevent Xbox 360 from having a minor feature that PS3 doesn’t but again this is just such a waste of time. Stick to improving what people actually use games, blu ray, online play, browser, etc. Quit adding new features until you perfect the existing issues people want

What we need is for you to fire the guy that made this update! The guys you said Great idea to and gave the assignment to should stick to wII and you should hire some of us that play and test your systems out!!.
Any ways back to where i was this update was a fail! I mean i expected a great update and was so stoked to wait 30 minutes for this update to download NOT!

With my 360 on this is what they have.
They have Music Videos, Movies, Game Demos and Trailers, A place called My Community and what is going on. A welcome Screen with whats hot and what you should know about the system, Spotlight, Things that get s everyone involved. Yes i know is MS and they have money! Along with Nerds and tons of them! But my faith is in PS3 that is why i spent the money to buy the system!
Don’t get me wrong there is many features of a ps3 that i would take any day over this Computer box.. That Dies (RROD) I’m just going on hoping that maybe you will read this and understand all of us and how badly we want things done. Do something! Because im sure if you keep going the way you are people may end up selling their systems and buying a fag Box!…. in that case you would lose lots! We are your market without us PS3 Is noting! Thanks for reading my Rant and i hope you can solve something and make us all happy and make then Fag Boxers go what!!! We want that!!

I have a 1TB drive attached to my PS3 filled mostly with movies. It is in regard to this where I urge changes.
1 – compatibility with more video formats. I briefly owned a WD device that allowed me to play anything on an attached HD. The PS3 fails to play video files often AND I can’t even tell you what the rules are about what it will and will not play.
2 – loading times. With a big drive it takes minutes to load each time you turn the drive on. Some sort of record created by the PS3 would help. Then at startup it would only need to look for changes/additions which it could do in the background.
3 – searchable catalogue of contents. It is easy to loose track of video titles. Now, I keep a database on my Mac. I use a nice little product called DVDpedia. Integration of such a DB on the PS3 with direct launching of video files would be great.
4 – real alpha listings of content/directories on attached USB drive. A no-brainer. Additional levels for the file hierarchy would also be nice.
5 – spin down. If I leave a movie (from the attached drive) on pause for a while the drive spins down and the PS3. Later the PS3 can’t seem to tell the external drive to spin up. Restart is the only solution.
Just a note to SONY: thank you for removing the SONY Store icon from the video section of the XMB, as I live in Canada and have no access to the video downloads anyways. Thanks for cleaning that up….
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for having access to video & Netflix etc., but always am happy to have a clean look to the XMB.
I guess much of the frustration people are feeling is that it’s so friggin’ hard for people to customize the look of their “desktop” or XMB. A few extra options in the system part of the XMB would go a long way towards making people happy…one example is turning the fading menus on or off.

its a nice update but Sony i think you do more with playstation network stuff, and focus on what the playstation users want such as cross-game chat, party system, or in game music. you would get alot of happy users out of that.
Please re-add the ability to listen to music while surfing the internet. It was one of my favorite features on the ps3! Please give it back to us. An online search revealed that many other ps3 owners have my same sentiments.
ever since i updated to 3.1 i cannot browse through my music library while music is playing. It was nice on sony to allow you to automatically advertise what your doing on your playstation on your facebook but i dont think it is worth loosing the ability to play music and browse at the same time.
I agree with Xaviour247, in game music would be a spectacular addition.

This guy explance how to fix it. all you have to do is change to output frequency to 48khz, i guess when you update in puts it back 44khz. im not sure if it would work if you use rca cable for audio but it works for optical.

3.10 is quite sweet however, I feel a bit annoyed that things have been taken away, such as playing a song and being able to go back to the XMB to chat to friends, even the fact that you can’t play your own music no matter where you are on the PS3 is a bit of a let down. I know the xbox 360 does it, and i’m not asking you to do the same as them as I’d go buy one, but to have the same abilities plus more would make the PS3 a far better all-round console.
This is nice and all but this update is bringing me back to error code 8002f997 (XMB Firmware error)
This happened last time and I had to wait for like 2 weeks until you guys made an alternate update.
What’s also messed up is that I bought COD: modern warfare 2 today and was expecting to go the network. Thanks to you guys its just a black screen once I insert the cd. Thanks Sony for your uselesss facebook app. that I’m going to spend my weekend and possibly thanksgiving w/o call of duty. Thank you and happy thanksgiving. I know one thing I won’t be thankful for.
Music should constantley play except for watchin a vid updating nd changing audio settings. Music on 1 page shoud play when you open another window

You know what would be cool, if you can change your Avatar using a photo or more Avatars in the next update.

Look sony it would be a great pleasure to have cross game chat without having to go in the boring whiteness talking to a friend thats probably bored along with you to and yeah exactly where are the avatars and b4 u bring them please change your mind a “premium avatar” i really DONT want to pay $1 and $2 dollars 4 a little bitty avatar last but not least i would like my music content to be playable in any game in it motivates me 2 hear my selected music and not having to choose a game deciding should i play this just because i can play my music on it

I’m gettimg sick & tired of Sony ignoring us, It’s time you guys stay faithful to the fans that supported you since day one on launch day, when the PS3 costed over $600, & to the new fans, give them an experience no other company can give them. Stop playing catch up to MS, make a name for yourself!
Looks like I jumped the gun on this update. I thought this update was going to fix the previous problems with PS3 not recognizing the Blu-Ray drive. It recognized the Blu-Ray disc the first time, but doesn’t anymore. Any word on this Sony?

Terminator 2: Judgment Day Skynet Edition Blu-ray After the new 3.10 firmware update the blu-ray disc wont play in my playstation 3 60gb
After 3.10 update, most of my blu-ray mivies won’t play, my PS3 games won’t play either. Regular DVDs are fine. After restoring the factory defaults, which took 5 hours, some blu-ray movies can play, but some still cannot.

I like the horizontal layout of the pictures but it would be helpful if the horizontal layout applied to pictures accessed from a NAS. Currently pictures stored on the NAS still show up in one long list.
I had an issue with my Dual Shock 3 not wanting to sync up right after the 3.10 update. I had to hold down the reset button when turning on the system with the controller plugged in via usb to get it to resolve.
Otherwise, the update was pretty quick for once, but still contained NOTHING I’d want.
When is Sony going to upgrade the system to a real Media Center?

When I attach my external hard drive to my PS3 I can’t understand the names as Sony does not support Hebrew language.
When is Sony going to make the format change to Unicode like Microsoft.
PS3 is a wonderful system and will most likly be the best if Sony makes the change from being a playstation to a media center (without impacting the game capabilities of course).
when are Sony going to sort out the gapless support for MP3??? I reripped all my music to atrac so that my mix CDs would be gapless, but since the previous firmware upgrade gaps have appeared between tracks. VERY annoying
Is Sony going to fix the problem 3.10 is causing on games and Blu-Ray? I’m sick of my PS3 freezing so frquently and it all started with the new update. Also I’m not the only person in the world with this problem. Please fix it a.s.a.p.
Pleeeze guyz!!! release an update to fix the mess this update created. my ps3 is like semi-bricked and by doing a full drive format and rebuilding file tables only works temporarily please help!!!!!!!!

3.10 update broke media player on web. I can not watch any video’s That require Widows media player. I use to watch video’s here on the blog but can not any more. Will they fix this Thanks and They need more testers to test this stuff. it seem every update break something WHY! :(

i played mw2 and since the fw it dont work as got as before (other games i havent tryed) and why it dont shows the pictures from the Usb the same, as from the intern harddrive??? :S
but the sync. of the trophies work now really good on my ps3…
