Hey everyone! Aaron Webber here again – some of you may remember me from the Valkyria Chronicles 2 blog post a while back. This time, I have the privilege of bringing you guys some more exciting news – news that I know many of you are about to be extremely excited about!
After months upon months of requests, a myriad of rumors, and even full campaigns that speak to the unparalleled dedication of the fans, we can finally speak those words that all of you have been waiting anxiously to hear. So, here they are:
Yakuza 3 is coming West.
Featuring the original all-star Japanese voice cast and subtitled in English, Yakuza 3 chronicles the next steps in the life of the man once known as the Dragon of Dojima – Kiryu Kazuma.
As Kiryu works to begin a new life running an orphanage in Okinawa, the world he left behind in Tokyo also moves quickly. When the chairman of the Tojo clan is shot and the rivalry between the families plunges the city into chaos, even Okinawa is not far enough away to escape the grasp of the mysterious forces pulling the strings.
Then, when one of Kiryu’s close friends in Okinawa is found with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, things take a new turn for the worse. Driven to protect his friends, the Dragon is alive again – Kiryu returns to the dark city of Kamurocho, and will stop at nothing to find those responsible and give them his own taste of justice.
Releasing March 2010, the epic Yakuza saga continues, exclusively on the PlayStation 3.
Last but not least, we’d like to give special thanks to you guys, the Yakuza fans! Your passion and dedication has helped make this a reality, and we’d like to extend that thanks by letting you submit questions to the Yakuza 3 development team in Japan! To do so, just put *Dev Question* before typing your question here in the comments.
Until next time – we’ll have lots more news and in-depth looks at what Yakuza 3 has to offer very soon. Spread the word – Yakuza 3 is coming!
Can someone please explain to me the appeal of this game? Is it the story or something? I played the Japanese demo and the gameplay was EXTREMELY mediocre. Everything about it just SCREAMED last-gen…I don’t get it.
release date is too close with other great games, so i’ll pass this game on march

You just have a different taste in videogames, that’s all. You know how so many people rave about games like Killzone 2 and God of War? Well, I think those games are boring and I am much more excited for Yakuza 3. See how this works? Different strokes, for different folks.
Japanese gaming is finally making a comeback on the PlayStation brand and it’s about damn time!
Woot!
Just. One. Question:
Is this going to be an on-disc, Blu-Ray release? So far, all the Japanese-only subtitled releases announced by any companies have been announced as PSN only titles(e.g. Agarest War, which is getting a PSN only release on PS3, but getting a retail release on Xbox 360). Please please PLEASE tell us that SCEA have relaxed their cruel grip on Subtitled-only releases to allow those of us who care to actually buy foreign games in their original language!
If no retail release, I’m probably not getting this, as awesome as the game looks. Retail release? Where do I order!?
As much as I want this game, I can’t help but think March is too packed for us ps3 owners.
We got Gow3, FFxiii, and GT5 all coming out in the same month.
This is gonna be a hard choice. But seeing how the game I list are all established brands in the west, Maybe I’ll pick up yakuza 3 just to show support for the series.
So do I just give you guys the money now or do I have to drive to Gamestop?
DEV QUESTION/SUGGESTION
Wouldnt it be better if you aimed for an April/May/June release? With so many games at that time you have chosen it is sadly gonna get eaten alive.
Many people already say that you should change the date so please consider it!
Also i hope nothing gets censored or cut in western version.
THANKS FOR THE AWESOME NEWS!KIRYU FTW!
Why even worry about the other games coming out? People can buy more than one game a month.
GOW, FF, and GT5 are all examples of “been there, played that”. At least with Yakuza 3 I’ll be getting a totally unique and interesting setting/storyline.
Multi-faceted, full-featured, in-depth immersion into Japanese culture and crime syndicate world? I am absolutely in.
Awesome! Will buy!
Awesome, I love how Sega is taking this direction with their Japanese games and leaving the original VO’s. You have my support i’ll be ‘persuading’ as many ppl as I can to purchase this, now if only other companies followed suit *cough* Enix, namco *cough*.
Great to hear – the Yakuza franchise has some amazing fans backing it, so now it\’s just a matter of getting everyone together and showing the world what we can do when united.
