Hey everyone! Aaron Webber here again – some of you may remember me from the Valkyria Chronicles 2 blog post a while back. This time, I have the privilege of bringing you guys some more exciting news – news that I know many of you are about to be extremely excited about!

After months upon months of requests, a myriad of rumors, and even full campaigns that speak to the unparalleled dedication of the fans, we can finally speak those words that all of you have been waiting anxiously to hear. So, here they are:

Yakuza 3 is coming West.

Yakura 3 Coming to PS3

Featuring the original all-star Japanese voice cast and subtitled in English, Yakuza 3 chronicles the next steps in the life of the man once known as the Dragon of Dojima – Kiryu Kazuma.

As Kiryu works to begin a new life running an orphanage in Okinawa, the world he left behind in Tokyo also moves quickly. When the chairman of the Tojo clan is shot and the rivalry between the families plunges the city into chaos, even Okinawa is not far enough away to escape the grasp of the mysterious forces pulling the strings.

Yakura 3 Coming to PS3

Then, when one of Kiryu’s close friends in Okinawa is found with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, things take a new turn for the worse. Driven to protect his friends, the Dragon is alive again – Kiryu returns to the dark city of Kamurocho, and will stop at nothing to find those responsible and give them his own taste of justice.

Releasing March 2010, the epic Yakuza saga continues, exclusively on the PlayStation 3.

Last but not least, we’d like to give special thanks to you guys, the Yakuza fans! Your passion and dedication has helped make this a reality, and we’d like to extend that thanks by letting you submit questions to the Yakuza 3 development team in Japan! To do so, just put *Dev Question* before typing your question here in the comments.

Until next time – we’ll have lots more news and in-depth looks at what Yakuza 3 has to offer very soon. Spread the word – Yakuza 3 is coming!

  • Can someone please explain to me the appeal of this game? Is it the story or something? I played the Japanese demo and the gameplay was EXTREMELY mediocre. Everything about it just SCREAMED last-gen…I don’t get it.

  • release date is too close with other great games, so i’ll pass this game on march

  • @ T3mpr1x

You just have a different taste in videogames, that’s all. You know how so many people rave about games like Killzone 2 and God of War? Well, I think those games are boring and I am much more excited for Yakuza 3. See how this works? Different strokes, for different folks.

Japanese gaming is finally making a comeback on the PlayStation brand and it’s about damn time!

  • Woot!

    Just. One. Question:

Is this going to be an on-disc, Blu-Ray release? So far, all the Japanese-only subtitled releases announced by any companies have been announced as PSN only titles(e.g. Agarest War, which is getting a PSN only release on PS3, but getting a retail release on Xbox 360). Please please PLEASE tell us that SCEA have relaxed their cruel grip on Subtitled-only releases to allow those of us who care to actually buy foreign games in their original language!

If no retail release, I’m probably not getting this, as awesome as the game looks. Retail release? Where do I order!?

  • As much as I want this game, I can’t help but think March is too packed for us ps3 owners.

We got Gow3, FFxiii, and GT5 all coming out in the same month.

This is gonna be a hard choice. But seeing how the game I list are all established brands in the west, Maybe I’ll pick up yakuza 3 just to show support for the series.

  • So do I just give you guys the money now or do I have to drive to Gamestop?

  • DEV QUESTION/SUGGESTION

Wouldnt it be better if you aimed for an April/May/June release? With so many games at that time you have chosen it is sadly gonna get eaten alive.
Many people already say that you should change the date so please consider it!

Also i hope nothing gets censored or cut in western version.

THANKS FOR THE AWESOME NEWS!KIRYU FTW!

  • Why even worry about the other games coming out? People can buy more than one game a month.

GOW, FF, and GT5 are all examples of “been there, played that”. At least with Yakuza 3 I’ll be getting a totally unique and interesting setting/storyline.

Multi-faceted, full-featured, in-depth immersion into Japanese culture and crime syndicate world? I am absolutely in.

  • Awesome! Will buy!

  • Awesome, I love how Sega is taking this direction with their Japanese games and leaving the original VO’s. You have my support i’ll be ‘persuading’ as many ppl as I can to purchase this, now if only other companies followed suit *cough* Enix, namco *cough*.

    • Great to hear – the Yakuza franchise has some amazing fans backing it, so now it\’s just a matter of getting everyone together and showing the world what we can do when united.

  • YEAH!!!!! Thank god we are finally getting an engish version of YAKUZA 3!!! I am so happily satisfied to hear that! Its a dream come true! And in March no less….that month shall rock! GOWIII AND Yakuza 3! Wooohooo!

  • im so excited about all the new games that PS3 has been producing, very impressive, this lookz great, cant wait to play it

  • Yuuuup thats what im talkin bout sega!

heres hopin for a shenmue III muahahah!

  • oooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww yea the coolest game is coming here i wounder if there going to bring the one when it was samurai time period that wold be awsome

  • Excellent news! I enjoyed the previous two and have been hoping for this announcement. Thank you for bringing Yakuza 3 to us.

  • *Dev Question*

Are you guys planning on cutting anything from the game? I heard rumors that the hostess part would be. I would really love the game intact. Thank You can’t wait to buy the game.

  • As much as I LOVE the Yakuza series, and I am buying it regardless, please push the release date back to the Summer time frame.

The game deserves good sales, which it WON’T get if releasing in March. The month is way too crowded. :(

  • *dev question* What makes this game stand out from other games that are currently being made nowadays and also being an avid trophy hunter will this game’s trophy list be ridiculously hard or in the middle?

  • The story is the main hook, this is the type of game that makes u want to keep playing just to find out what happens next.

u cant judge it by little demo’s or little trailers. You have to play the actual game from the beginning to be able to judge it.

AND NO this aint no japanese gta, this is more like a action adventure Rpg ish game.

  • Thank you! I love the idea of using English subtitle, since there is almost no way you can be on par with all those famous Japanese voice actors if you were to dub it. It worked great for Yakuza 2.

  • *Dev Question* Will there also be an English subtitle patch for the original Japanese version which so many of us imported?

  • Very much looking forward to this, BUT I will say that it would be a lot wiser to release this in May or June. God of War 3 and Final Fantasy XIII are going to own March and it will hurt Yakuza 3’s sales. I’ll be buying all three, but I don’t think the average person will be able to. Please move it back a couple months so the game has a chance. Thank you, though, for releasing it, at all.

Oh, and any word on a Valkyria Chronicles trophy patch?

  • This is great news but why can’t you also give the option for an english track? That was the only thing I didn’t like about Yakuza 2.When I heard Yakuza 2 would have the japanese track I thought they meant in addition to an english track then when I popped the disc in I was unpleasantly surprised to find out that it only had the japanese track.

I’m happy for those that want the japanese track but please include the english track for Yakuza 3 as well,I want Mark Hamill to return as Majima. That’s one of the great things about Bluray, you have the room to include both.

  • @willooi

I think an English subtitle patch would defeat the whole purpose of releasing this in the States. If you can just play it in English with your imported version, that’s another lost sale for them.

  • *Dev Question*
Hello Sega Japan, just wanted to see if you will be including DLC on the Bluray disc? If not, please release the DLC on the PSN!

I will be purchasing this game on day one. Pre-ordering ASAP!

Sega Japan, Please also look into finishing Shenmue. Even if you re-release the first two games I wouldn’t care!

  • *developer question* I have never played a Yakuza game before but i enjoy Japanese influence on games (and what not) and so I am considering purchasing this game but more importantly I am considering this game since I am hoping that this game has similarities to Shenmue which is by far my most wanted game. Is Yakuza anything like Shenmue? and also, will I ever see another Shenmue game in my lifetime?(preferably after a re-release of the original on the PSN)?

  • That second sentence just made me laugh. Ever heard of Troy McClure… you may remember me from…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPvgeCdv8wY

  • I have a theory that the shenmue franchise depends on the success of Yakuza. It just seems a bit odd that SEGA decided to release a game that was originally not supposed to see our shores. It seems that they want to use this already made game as a case study of the state of the market and whether they will be ready for a Shenmue game. PLease god let that b the case!

  • I just squealed…. Oh no, I feel it coming on again…

    *SSSSSQQQQQQUUUUUEEEEEEEEEE!!!!*

  • Please release this on a Blu Ray disc and NOT PSN!!!

  • Dev Question- Will you be removing or censoring content from the original Japanese release?

  • okay devs this one its very serious.

what we need us Yakuza fans do in order to get a blue ray HD collection for the Ps3 of Yakuza 1 – 2?

  • *Dev Question*
    1) Yakuza reminds me in some ways of my all time favorite, Shenmue. Did people from the Shenmue series work on the Yakuza as well?

    2) Will yakuza 4 be released in the west?

    3) Will the yakuza side stories (the ones that take place way before the main yakuza games) be coming state side as well?

  • @ T3mpr1x

you sound like a dude that would say the same about Demon’s Souls and Dragon Age Origins.

who and play Modern Warfare 2 and s,tfu.

  • Sony is pulling out ALL the big guns. They’re localizing everything everywhere, aren’t they?

  • Great news SEGA, you’ve always been my favourite games company & it’s games like this that make me remember why I fell in love with you all those years ago with the likes of Alex Kidd, Sonic the Hedgehog and all the other Master System born classics. But seriously. Where’s our Shenmue?!? Probably the greatest video game ever created, one of the best stories ever to be told. Are we ever going to see how it all ends?!? I’ll personally give a months wages towards development fees and then travel the globe in my underwear promoting it, fee free if you can make this happen, you have my word!! Please, please, please just give me my Shenmue!?!

  • Seriously though, please bring in the english track as an option.I don’t mind that the japanese track is in the game,it’s good for those who want it but please put in the english track as well. There are people, including me that would prefer to hear the english track.

  • @dulcediana (184), nope I would not say the same thing about Demon’s Souls or Dragon Age: Origins. I have not played them yet but I do plan on renting them when I have some time.

  • I have really been waiting for this news. Yakuza 3 really looked like a awesome game and in many aspects better then Yakuza 1 and 2. So SEGA and specially Sony should seen the quality in Yakuza 3 a year ago. But later is better then not at all. Thank you SEGA and SONY !!! GREAT NEWS !!! YAAAHOOO !!! *ah sorry for the caps lock* YEEEEEEES !!!!!!

  • thank you thank you thank you!
damn now i wish i still had part 1 and 2 to play through again

  • I’ve never played a Yakuza game before; does anyone know if this game has some sort of story summary for the previous games in it? I’ve heard the first 2 are pretty hard to find now, and it seems like the story is continuous through the series.

  • yakuza 3 with trophies woot

  • @191 Rainy_Day17

In Yakuza 3, the beginning of the game, infront of the tombstones, you can find out exactly what happened in yakuza 1 and 2.. they tell you in cinematics from the first 2 games to update you on the story of what had happen so far… which was a really nice bonus..

to sega.. i am happy to hear that the game was gonna be subbed in english.. coz peopel who dont understand japanese will really not be able to play.. there is just so much reading in the game..
please push the release date back or forward a month so the great game doesnt go under the radar..

  • @ T3mpr1x okay sry I tough you were the typical FPS fanboy troll.

Well Demon’s Souls its kinda some snes games kinda Brain Lord and Dragon Age Origins its like Baldurs Gate .

bad idea not having demos of them because they are very old fashioned (but great) games.

  • Just wanted to say thank you!! Kinda sad though that it’ll probably be overlooked over here by FFXIII & GoW3 (not to mention the other monsters of Q1) but we’ll see what happens. Looking forward to hearing more of Yakuza 4 after this!

Just thought of how it’d be kinda cool if Yakuza 1&2 got the GoW1&2 treatment and bumped up remastered for PS3… but that’s me :P

  • SEGA can relax a little now, my boycott has now come to an end!

I truly enjoyed the first two Yakuza’s and rarely do I ever do this, but I will be pre-ordering this as soon as it shows up on Amazon!

    Now what about Yakuza 4…

  • Does this mean we can expect the PSN team to fix the missing game issue on the website? Currently Yakuza 3/龍が如く3 and its trophies are hidden on one’s public profiles. There were a lot more games that were missing, but they all seem to have been fixed, except Yakuza 3/龍が如く3 and [Prototype].

    Please fix this.

  • DEV Question

Would it be possible for you to please port Yakuza & Yakuza 2 to the PS3 on a Blu Ray Collection, like God of War Collection?

I am a new PS3 owner who got the Slim model at launch, so I don’t have the ability to play the old games.

I am super excited and glad they decided to bring this over. I was worried I was gonna have to pay a lot of money for it and then have to use a guide just to play it.

  • i love sega!

    *Dev Question*
    1) Why are you guys so awesome?
    2) why did you guys select march as a date? its too crowded
    3) i have played both Yakuzas (and loved them) but i always wondered is the team behind Yakuza the same team behind Shenmue?
    4) i know this is asked gazillion times but what happened to Shenmue 3 ?

  • dam another game for march!!!!!!
