Introducing Sodium One: The Next Evolution of PlayStation Home

152 5

Today marks the next evolutionary step of the PlayStation Home platform, as we release a massive 50 level vehicle combat game wrapped inside a highly-interactive and expansive social gaming environment known as Sodium One– a truly revolutionary gaming experience developed by Outso Ltd. and published by Lockwood Publishing Ltd. This entertainment event, set in a future of advanced technology where man and machine meet on a vast salt plain to turn deadly battle into extreme sport, resides only in the ever-growing world of PlayStation Home. And come opening day, you will want to be the first person in. That is, of course, if you want to be the last person standing.

A new benchmark for social gaming in PlayStation Home, Sodium One will launch with an explosive game known as Salt Shooter – a 50 level combat challenge where players can collect items to level up gameplay and strategically customize hovertanks with weapons, armor, and countermeasures. These level-ups can be obtained in a variety of ways, including meeting in-game objectives, trading resources collected in the Sodium world, and purchasing items that unlock upgrades in the Sodium environment (such as the tank pilot jackets, which grant access to additional levels of the game, leaderboards, and the pilots’ VIP lounge). All of this is built upon an MMO framework that includes additional games like Desert Quench and Scorpion Stomp, associated rewards and collectibles, and personal questing adventures, all of which are tracked by the Sodium AI Information Android known as VICKIE. The above games make for a truly next-level PlayStation Home space that centers on the concept of offering persistent objectives and long-term rewards to the PlayStation Home community, so users may work together to reach score targets and unlock future content and continuously upgrade their personal gaming experiences.

A dynamic and immersive gaming environment that will continue to expand over time by offering new games, community events, and virtual items, Sodium One is an experience unique to the PlayStation Home platform. By leveraging the computing power of the PS3, Outso Ltd. has succeeded in creating a graphically-rich, community-based game that is leaps ahead of anything offered on other consoles. To celebrate this momentous event, we will be making a limited number of unique voucher codes – good for a full unlock of the entire Salt Shooter combat game – available to 1,050 PlayStation Home community members that explore the space during the first 7 days (150 users per day). All you have to do is log in to PlayStation Home, enter the Sodium One space and interact with VICKIE for your chance to unlock the full game.

We are proud to join you, the PlayStation Home community, as we embark on a journey to the next level of social gaming on the PS3. So make sure you log into PlayStation Home today to take part in all that this amazing new gaming world known as Sodium One has to offer. And, as always, stay tuned to the official PlayStation.Blog for updates regarding the Sodium One space and all other events and content scheduled to appear in PlayStation Home throughout what is sure to be an incredibly exciting new year.

  • @Final Fan…

    Um..Yep.

    7×100=700
    7×50=350
    700+350=1050

Thats how we do our maths round here.

  • sorry I’m not spending 5 bucks on it right now I maybe later

  • why does everything cost real money

  • Whooah, great first post from me.

Normally I’m quite good at math. Misplacing digits FTW. (1500=/=1050)

  • Any chance of seeing another game of this caliber with zombies? I’ve just been craving an expansive Zombie MMO for as long as I can remember. I’ll definately have to check this out as soon as I can.

  • I just spent a good deal of time in the Sodium area and it’s really cool to be honest. I was never very interested in Home but this is something I can really get behind. Keep this kind of stuff up, would like to see a lot more games like this.

I was wondering though, why no trophies? I mean it already kind of has trophies, they’re just not official. If you want more people to log into Home then I think trophies would help a lot.

  • Sweet, something in home that doesnt suck!
    thanks

  • I just tried it and it is really fun.

Look, everyone is talking about how Sony is going to charge for PSN. Well it was clarified that playing online would always be free but that other things would be offered that would generate revenue. If this is the beginning of that, I see nothing wrong with it.

Would you rather pay just to be online like Microsoft, or choose what you want to pay for, but it result in added features that your PS3 has to offer? They made this Salt Shooter pretty awesome and I don’t mind spending some money if they make the elements you get worthwhile. Good job, BTW, I hope to see more of this.

  • o.O lol looks cool, I’ll give it a look see^^

  • holy smokes! HOME is getting better

  • hey, i have a question… i registered on the sodium one website and put in the code, after that, it said an email would be sent to me but i never got it. what gives?

  • But Home still freezes when I try to log in!! >_<

  • Hey Lanis, try Deleting Home and installing it again. That worked for me

  • this is actually pretty cool they should make a zombie mod next then i would be hitting up PS Home every day =)

  • what about killing friends?

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i hope this would be exciting and non-sims

  • A Third Person Shooter or a simple RPG in the vein of Phantasy Star Online/Monster Hunter would be more attractive to me, but it’s a great addition nonetheless.

also, why Sony doesn’t add more Home prizes tied to their first party games like some thirds are doing? For example, get a Drake miniature when you beat Uncharted 2… just some suggestions. Sony should be leading this Home promotional stuff imo.

  • what about killing zombie a la dead rising?

  • what about killing Zombie a la dead rising?
and MMO where you can hit another online person.

  • interesting idea, but it still doesn’t make me want to even try Home

  • Sweet! looks fricking awesome! thanks home team :) now i got a reason to log into home everyday

  • Hey cydoniaX will this trailer be added on PlayStation Store to download?

  • Na is Sodium, S is Sulfur… therefore, it should be Na1 not “S1”. Chemistry fail!

  • We need more of this kind of thing in Home. I love it, definitely the best thing on Home to date.

  • Sony you sneaky basterds….

  • I can’t see the ground, VICKIE, or the scorpions, what is going on!?

  • i’ve been away from home playing assassin’s creed and the saboteur. i’ll check it out after the update – maybe.

and to the people that post “First!”, it won’t fix world hunger so big deal!

  • Niether will playing assassin’s Creed…

  • That Looks FreakN AWESOME

  • I bet alot more people would play this if they include a few trophies.

  • So far I’m not impressed

  • And another thing, how bout Sony getting rid of that goddamn thing they call qeued in the bowling alley. Everytime I tried to bowl alot of times It wouldn’t let me onto an empty lane or my being qeued would time out and I don’t get to bowl anyway!

  • How do you kill the jiant scorpions and the tiny ones?

  • As for the jiant and tiny scorpions, how do u kill those little basterds, I keep getting stung.

  • Can somebody please tell me how I can get a new activation code. I accidentally deleted the activation email and now I can’t register because I can’t log in and I also can’t re-register because it says that I already used my psn id and email

  • Was hoping it was more MMOish, not a standalone, single player game fighting CPU ships……ah well it’s a step in the right direction anyways.

  • @138 – bigaugie38.

Go for the Green scorpions to get points….the red scorpions will sting you, but even so…you get 50 sodium points being stung a 100 times.

  • lol @ 102.

Great space. Now all we need is A Big sports space that has something to d o with baseball football and basketball. the 3 major sports in this country! That would be awesome.

  • I got a registration # from VICKIE but can’t register. Went to SodiumOne.com and still wasn’t able to register!

  • SodiumOne is an AWESOM addition to PS Home!

I would like to see the ability to add our HDD music in the form of a jukebox maybe, in our homes and clubhouses.

I would also like to see pooltables for homes and clubhouses.

    KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

  • it’s good and all, but make Home it’s self better, like for example, i have a friend from UK why can’t i invite him to my Home or me to his..add a music area were u can listn to the music on ur own HDD and inv a friend to listn also..

  • This is the reason why i wouldn’t mind paying 100$ per year to access “Premium” PSN

Sony gives so much for free that they deserve my bucks :)

  • Home desperately needs Trophies. I will be trying Sodium, but that’s it – I never use home cause there’s GAMES I have I can play, instead of milling around in Home. Now if Sodium were to have trophies, however… I’d play it more.

  • To: CydoniaX: PlayStation Home Community Manager

All seems well, I registered etc.. but I have an issue/question. when vickie gives you the code and the link to the sodium website why do I have to jump on my computer or back out of home instead of being able to just click on the link and have the playstation 3 browser launch within home for me to register?

Another option would be since i would be logged on to my PSN account while in home, why not just add a button that says “do you want to register with sodium?” then you click it and your info should for the most part be auto filled for you minus passwords etc..

it would just make sense to have all the features and access streamlined.. ..

this is probably a sony issue as i also don’t see the need to register and download the divx registration.. if my console is registered why cant it just go online and register itself?

If HOME wants to be easy to access having to back out of HOME to do internet related stuff will turn people off.

  • Well i think that psHOME will be much better than it was before AND it looks like we are headed into a bigger, better, brighter future of psHOME. Oh and does anyone know when Sodium One’s website will be up?

  • Oh i allmost forgot to say that Home should let u hear ur own music while u play, and psHome is to slow they should try to inprove the speed of the downloading, also ps should include trophies
