And there’s more here than just running and gunning, although as the test of time has proven, the running and gunning in this series can stand alone pretty darn nicely. There’s also a Combat School, which offers Metal Slug veterans a chance to put their cred on the line in over 70 challenging mission-based trials.

Ultimate Metal Slug fans can purchase Leona, a seventh playable character with her own unique abilities, via PlayStation Store for just 99 cents!

To celebrate the game’s announcement and/or upcoming release, we’ve got a small handful of rare collectibles to give away.

Guffaw at your friends as they look with envy at your striped blue and white authentic Metal Slug boxers.

We’ve also got NINE Japanese promotional posters to give away. Nothing says hardcore like a poster in a language you and/or your friends may not speak!

  • Looks awesome, but $20 is too expensive, especially when you consider that Bionic Commando Rearmed is only $10.

Great idea, but priced too high for all but the hard-core Metal Slug fans.

  • Personally, I’ve always been fond of all the little details in the game, such as the enemy soldiers laughing when they kill you and screaming in terror when you come back. There’s a lot of love in all the extra animations, and I always appreciate it when a developer cares that much about their game.

  • BOXERS? AWESOME!

  • those boxers, oh yes they will be mine, oh yes they will be mine…

also, so i can dress up as a POW for halloween hahaha.

  • What do I love about Metal Slug the most? Why the Awesome Video Game Soundtrack of course!!!!! Ranging from the First one to the latest one and heck even the lesser known Neo Geo Pocket ones, there was always something about its music that always garned my full attention to the game while I was playing it in the arcades……You know besides all the gunfire, explosions, aliens, zombies, tanks, robots, and giant enemy crustaceans lol

  • Oh ya I forgot the question!
Probably blowing up everything that moves and cause complete MAYHEM! That gives the player that sort of feeling that they are undefeated and unstoppable! And shooting holes Nazies is also FUN! Wish for a online co-op and DLC lelevs!

  • Fond memories of Metal Slug, always played it when I had a spare quarter grown up :)

  • I”m going to go with the easy answer and say Flo.

I’ll be the first to admit I have a thing for glasses.

  • [and of course i meant Fio. Apparently I also have a thing for the Progressive lady just like everyone else.)

  • This is a good series that sadly I don’t play enough of.

  • Never played Metal Slug but this game looks awesome! Looking forward to it.

  • I like the crazy characters.

  • My favorite aspect is that the very old formula never seems to get old. I’ve played all the games as the many years passed and even now in 2010 the simple side scrolling run n gun 2D action never bores me.

  • My favorite aspect is running-and-gunning in 2D! No series does it better than Metal Slug!

  • I like the Metal Slug series because it combines the intense action of Contra with a very lovable cartoonish visual design, but it still feels like it’s own game. The games manage to be extremely hard, yet still extremely fun, and in this day and age where “realism” is the most looked upon aspect in games, it’s nice to have some series where the only thing that matters is FUN.

  • I enjoy the co-op play and the “can’t stop putting quarters in” addictiveness of Metal Slug.

    Also, RAWKET LAUNCHA

  • I can’t wait to play this. I could also use some trousers or a nice poster too. :)

Thanks for bringing this to the US. It’s games like this that make the PSP worth owning.

  • I love metal slug because of the balanced difficulty for casual players!

  • My favorite aspect of Metal Slug? The co-operative action, of course! While the hectic style of Metal Slug often intimidates my friends [who I often introduced to Metal Slug Anthology], many, many times it ends up being a play-through to remember.

  • What do I love most? I love the fact that the games I drooled over as a poor college student who couldn’t afford a Neo Geo back in the day keep showing up on a system I can carry around in my pocket!

I especially love the price, nice job Atlus!

  • i love the old school mutliplayer so i can have fun with my friends or just beat the game solo

  • One of the first arcade games I played was Metal Slug 2, and it was also the only arcade game I mastered. Perfect play-through, all hostages rescued and never got hit. It was the only way to secure the top spot.

Anyway, I always loved the zany humor in Metal Slug. Eat too much food, and you become a fatty. Rescue that special hostage, and you get a Street Fighter-lampooning partner. Get a monkey with an uzi on your side. The Independence Day parody final boss. So much hilarious stuff, but it never was at the expense of being a great, fun, balanced game.

  • Is this download only or is it on UMD as well?

  • I love playing and dying with my brothers. We suck a metal slug games but we have so much fun running around and getting slaughtered together.

  • The variety of vehicles.

  • I remember growing up and playing metal gear.
The fact it was the epitome of side scrolling action keeping you going when the enemies were coming from EVERYWHERE!!!!

I remember importing this because I couldn’t wait to play it

  • Would love to win the boxer, I would look hardcore with it even tho I can’t wear it lol. Can’t wait for this game to hit store!

  • The best part of Metal Slug, for me, is the crazy boss battles. The giant, ridiculous tanks, planes, and fortresses.

  • My favorite aspect(s) of Metal Slug has got to be the artstyle, the characters, the humor, the “story”, and the overall craziness sorrounding the series.

Monsters, Zombies, Aliens, Robots, Tanks, Guns, Explosions! So much awesomeness in one little package!

  • Most memorable part of Metal Slug for me: The voice that announces whenever you’ve picked up a weapon. “ROCKET LAWN CHAIR.”

  • What’s not to love about Metal Slug?

Fast action, great 2D animation, a bit of wacky humor, RAWKET LAWNCHAIRS, etc…

I don’t think I could pick one aspect about it I like. :p

  • the guns blazing and saving guys who reward you with something they had IN THEIR BOXERS or following you around making fun of street fighter by launching hadoukens. not to mention the ease of play and all the funny quirks like when you get fat or turn into a zombie. loads of fun!!!!

  • Great stuff! The first game of the new year that definitely needs a pick up.

Can’t beat the price of $19.99. Inless of course you’re comparing it to Tarma’s grizzled stash :/

  • What is this Treachery!! Its not downloadable for the PSPGo!! Dont you guys want to spread the love?

  • My favorite thing is that they didn’t ruin the game with awkward 3D gameplay that would have never worked. If it aint broken, don’t fix it.

Future Generations must be reminded of how AWESOME 2D games were. That and how “realistic graphics” don’t count for crap when you got fun as hell gameplay.

  • haha man i never get tired of these games all the running and gunning oh the memories

  • The best part of Metal Slug is playing it with a friend, definitely. I’ve spent too many nights with a buddy playing for hours nonstop. Too much fun!

  • Nothing says “I sleep alone” better than these boxers.

  • My favorite aspect of MS would be the randomness and action packed awesomeness that would happen while playing. MS is one of the best retro arcade games out there, and was my top favorite game to play at the local burger joint. Thanks for all the hard work MS team, you’ve done a great job.

  • Why do the graphics look like a flash game?
No thanks the psp is way better than this.
I rather play it on shockwave or some thing!

  • Too bad I won’t be able to support Atlus at launch. Seeing as they didn’t deem it necessary to supply a version for PSPgo owners.

  • what i loved about metal slug was playing co-op with a friend and talking smack about the funny enemies lol

  • My favourite aspect is the intense combat along with the charming art style.

  • Hehe, awesome! Will buy

  • YES!!! I LOVE METAL SLUG OLD SCHOOL FUN

  • My favorite aspect of Metal Slug is the RAW KIT LAWN CHAIR

  • Old school arcade action at it’s best!

  • The best thing about Metal Slug would have to be the great art style.

  • I love the insane action and the great art style.
