As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

Errors include:

  • The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
  • When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
  • When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
    trophies. Please exit your game.”
  • When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
  • Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

For the latest status on this situation please continue to check either the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com.

  • just dont get error 80010f50 by doing the stuff above an you’ll be fine just play ps2s an ps1s bought movies work no downloadable games an it should do fine

  • @344

No. You can’t turn it on. If the PS3 is connected to the Internet it checks it’s clock – even if you aren’t logged into PSN.

Hard to believe so many are threatening buying an XBox over this. Hopefully the issue will be fixed soon and no data will be lost (or can at least be restored).

I’ve had my PS3 since launch. If this did cause an un-fixable error and Sony was willing to fix it I wouldn’t be upset at all. However, if they said sorry your system is dead, buy a new one… Then I’d be pissed! LOL

  • I don’t even care if they offered me a slim to replace my old one. I want my trophies back and thats all I care about.
Far as I’m concerened: if they can’t get me my trophies back they’ve lost a customer for life, and I’m taking as many people with me as possible. It’s harsh, but I’m speaking the truth.

  • now it’s 00.10 on 02/03/2010 in Europe and still screwed ;(

  • because they use the clock an using rented movies then yea it’ll happen

  • ok then dont sign in find someone who has slim u know an go over there an sign in lol

  • I have a 60gb upgraded to 500gb and a 80gb and said [DELETED] that. I turned on both of my ps3s and they work. haha.

  • i still love sony. :D

  • ive read someone’s idea on gamespot forums, we should make some t-shirts with “i survived 8001050F” in the front and “ApocalyPS3” in the back.. i want to pre-order one plz

  • that would be cool lol

  • We need some kind of reparation for this crap. We are over 33 million users. I’d like a free game.

  • @343,

If we were in the same orbit as we are now, and the Earth slowed down to that speed we would no longer have centrifugal force on our side and the Sun’s gravity would start pulling us in, as we get closer to the Sun our atmosphere would be bombarded by the Sun’s radiation, our clouds would not get cool enough for it to rain, and we would the heat would get trapped. It would get rather warm, but I guess for that to happen we would have to have something to slow us down considerably, and the impact of that would probably kill us all anyway.

  • LMAO

Its 23h17 here (Portugal) and I’m about to find out if the miracle sony’s waiting will gonna happend haha

  • all in the free game? say i

  • I’ll add that I always hated trophies, but now I have reason to

  • i was wondering wat happened.. i have the slim line version so i have nothing to worry about.. but my friends have the old version so i guess that sux for them.. ill print this out and show it to them

  • F…just now when things coundn’t go better.i dont have ps3 yet ,i’m getting one in summer thought.i feel sorry for those unlucky people, hope it gets fix fast.love u all.

  • Is it ok to watch Blu-rays and DVDs? I know they said not to turn on our PS3s, but mine is my main source of entertainment. I’m fine if I can’t play games right now.

Anyone know if this is ok?

  • I took a day off work to play Heavy Rain and other games .. that “bug” just cost me a day of work!

  • Well the GMT time is coming up and we will see if Sony’s idea not to be proactive and let it fix itself idea works. I got $1 says it doesn’t. I can only afford to bet a dollar because it’s going to cost me money to buy a slim now. OK that’s my stab at Sony and I’m done. Sony has still not offered us an update to the issue and if this self fix doesn’t work Sony is going to have a bigger problem on their hands. This act of silence on their part is so risky and it’s probably going to backfire but I am not going to give up my PS3 but I will look at another option as a backup or maybe getting a slim. That all depends on what happens in the next 24 hours. God of War 3 is the only reason why I am not ready to give up faith.

  • im just gonna play wii till its fixed

  • @363
    I :D

  • Don’t turn on your PS3 for anything.Once it’s officially tomorrow March 2nd I’m sure Sony hopes this all goes away.If it doesn’t….They don’t fix BC models as they don’t make them anymore so if you’re like me pray that it’s actually fixable thru firmware, calendar or prayer.

  • Just wait 30 mins and it’ll fix itself.

  • Just play offline guys. When this will be fixed you can update the trofies etc.

By the way PlayStation BLOG embedded videos don’t function on my PS3 browser, I get an error… how is this possible?!!?

  • Woo. Man, I’m so glad I’m far away from my PS3 right now, with my DS almost out of battery.

    For everybody else, good luck.

  • @374 you cant turn your system on lol did you read the blog post

  • Thanks, grateful I saw this before I got on my PS3 so I don’t break it. Hope that I they can get it fixed by 4PM tomorrow so I can play BC2 with out crashing my system. At least this didn’t happen on April 1st.

  • The only reason they’re telling you not to turn your console on at all is to cover their asses so some moron doesnt do something that common sense would tell you not to do in this situation.

That way they can say we told you so when they fawk something else up trying to fix this and find out you used it like any normal person would do.

As I already posted, myself and many others have fixed this problem by disconnecting the onboard battery for a few minutes.

EVERY SINGLE TROPHY AND THEME THAT WAS MISSING OR CORRUPT HAS RETURNED TO 100% WORKING ORDER!

AND…This is after I …OMG wait, could it be? Yes!! I turned the mofo on at least 10 times. On and off over and over and tried to play almost every one of the 50 plus psn games I have as well as all my discs!

So please stop eating the bullshat that Sony keeps feeding you! Turning your PS3 on and watching a blu-ray or anything else is not gonna fawk the thing up anymore than they already have themselves. Use some common sense people…

  • mine is working now!!

  • The trophy problem is LOCAL.

  • Forums are down now… really? How can we stay informed… ?

  • 60gig is working just fine now. Suck it haters.

Now let’s start worrying about 2014.

  • right here lol

  • Nevermind, they are back, up and down today… proda.us.playstation.com is also timing out alot…

  • So, if it’s a PS3 bug, why is the PSN PSP Store down?

I cannot sign in from Media Go, I have been trying all day!

  • Also, the PSN official forums went down…. :o

  • My system appears to be working properly now.

  • i’m hearing reports that its ok now? why is taking sony so long to confirm or deny these reports. not going to turn on my ps3 til i know 100% its ok

  • You guys dodged a bullet. Knew it would fix it self.. lol@ “we’ll have a fix within the next 24hrs” just give it to us straight.

  • I’m going to be nice. “no comment “

  • Good news,at least for me.Ps3 now working, all themes are normal.Bad news all my Heavy Rain Trophies are gone and clock is totally screwed up…

  • I checked the NeoGAF forums, and they said it’s working, check it out: “Ok, started PS3, same thing as last night. Tried to set clock via internet and same as last night, no luck.

Disabled then enabled internet connection and tried the set clock…… SUCCESS!!!!SIGNED INTO PSN AS WELL!!!”

    http://i46.tinypic.com/j67hqe.jpg

  • it fixed itself now.
i went to date and time setting and “set via internet” and voila!!!

  • lalala. Hope its fixed by tonight so I can play heavy rain again.

    PS3 forever!!

  • what ps3 needs is the option of changing your ID and now these crap too comon the ps3 feel more and more like the stone age system you can’t even change your psn ID ha ha ha long live Xbox360!!!!

  • So Sony, about all those Trophies that are gone….Anything?

  • I just managed to log in. I lost my stardust trophies though. I haven’t tried syncing either yet. And the clock still says 2/28.

  • after a reboot, the trophies are back but the clock is still screwy. gonna attempt to reset it.
