242 0

We are proud to announce that the highly-anticipated, long-awaited release of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City (including both The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony) for PlayStation 3 – is here. We know PlayStation fans have been anxiously waiting for this release, and we sincerely appreciate all of your patience and support over the past year as we worked to get this game to you as soon as we possibly could.

As most of you may know, Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City is two complete game experiences as episodes set in Liberty City: The Lost and Damned, and The Ballad of Gay Tony. Both games are included on one disc, and do not require a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV to play (though if you do own GTAIV, you can also purchase and download the episodes digitally via the PlayStation Network).

Here’s just a taste of what you’ll find in Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City:

  • New missions and storylines
  • New weapons, including a grenade launcher, sawed-off shotgun, and sticky bombs
  • Enhanced physics for motorcycles, as well as new vehicles (yes, including a tank)
  • New radio, internet, and television content
  • New multiplayer modes and locations
  • Full PSN Trophy support

  • people are so quick to complain on here. They must have forgotten that the wait for GTA3 from the PS2 to the Xbox was about 2 years, and Xbox owners were happy for that. I wouldn’t call Rockstar sellouts, since we had a shorter wait than the difference from PS2 to Xbox with the older games, and that didnt cost Sony a dime. Microsoft payed $50 million for it, and it was only timed.

grow up kids. you would have complained if it never came, and you still complain when it did. Maybe you should be happy we got it at all

  • I’m not mad at Rockstar. I’d take 50 mil not to talk to someone for a year (or 2), but just like this, I wouldn’t expect that person to have any interest in me by the end of it. As with GTA IV, I’ve moved on to bigger and much better games, and I simply have no interest in buying DLC for such an old game now.

That said, that 50 mil means they can afford NOT to sell this to 1.25mil PS3 users at $40 a pop. and still break even on the deal, and their 50 mil was guaranteed, not made up from sales.

All they had to do to get it was to sell their collective souls to microsoft.

  • Hey that’s cool and all, but I am waiting on your other project.(I think you know what I’m talking about)

I’ll wait for a price drop; but even then, I still don’t think I’ll bother with either.

  • can’t wait for Red Dead Redemption and Agent!!

  • @Glacier

Do you have proof for that? Also, it’s funny you talk about how games are supposed to be “fun” when R* decided you shouldn’t have that fun for a year so they could give 360 owners that “fun” for $50,000,000.00! R* are Microsoft sellouts any way you cut it and they hurt sales of the PS3 exponentially for their acts. These lost sales have caused other developers to not back the PS3 as much as we expected at this point in the game.

Furthermore, “loyalty” to the game system I own does influence my purchase decision. If a game company wants to treat gamers of another console better than those of the console I own, because of money, then I have the right to express my displeasure and spend my money on games made by companies that treat gamers in a fair manner. Unless Agent is a AAA hit game don’t expect me or a lot of other gamers to forgive R* any time soon.

I understand third party developers have to make money, but when they make it at the expense of gamers like me to give other gamers some sort of advantage then you can’t expect me to sit here and like it, just like I don’t expect 360 gamers to be happy with Rock Steady for making the Joker PS3 exclusive or with Konami keeping MGS4 exclusive to the PS3.

  • Was this game printed and pressed with the 3.21 Firmware requirement? If so, I am not buying this game since I will not be able to play it.

  • how do you find the multiplayer on the game i just bought it and i dont see it

  • @ Jimmy, did you happen to forget that Xbox came out a year later than PS2?

    Fail.

  • @bucknasty: when in single player, press up on the d-pad to bring up your cell phone, press x, and you’ll see a menu, and it’s in there

  • Love GTA, hated the exclusivity but I forgive you guys now that it is finally here. Too my bad my PS3 is YLOD Dead.

  • @Napkin:

Do you realise that the PS2 came out in 2000, and GTA3 came out in 2001, the same year as the XBox release, but XBox didn’t get it until a couple years AFTER that?

    Fail.

  • I’m just happy I’ll finally be able to buy this now for PS3. Sad no platinum trophies, oh well!

  • Awesomesause
I can’t wait to hear more on the PS3 exclusive Agent!

I agree 100% with the above statement but I love GTA so much I am going to buy it anyways. I simply glad I no longer need to buy an X-box to do it.

  • Glad to finally get it, I’ll be picking it up in the next couple weeks.

  • @jimmymagnum

You forget the xbox came out after the PS2, and the xbox was the new console on the block. The PS2 was released on Oct. 26th, 2000 in North America and the Xbox was released November 15th 2001. On top of that, GTA 3 was released on October 22nd 2001, almost a month before the xbox was even available. And yes Sony did have them sign an exclusivity agreement but at the time the PS2 was THE console to own so it’s not like R* had anything to lose.

And the best part? Once GTA3 came out on the xbox it also came with Vice City and xbox gamers got two great games for the price of one full game, with better graphics and audio too!

  • Am glad that it’s finally released on PSN, but really $20 ea? not only is it 2 years late also is double the price on the xbox. I mean is that really how you want to please your fans that supported you and made you the way you are today rockstar?

as for my self I bought GTA 3, Vice city, san andreas, and 4 so come on drop the price in this overprice ancient DLC.

  • Sure is alot of bitterness in here.

Glad to finally see this on PS3, Thanks R*.

  • no thnx hope we dont get screwed on read dead redemption

  • apreciate u comin on the blog Jeronimo Barrera. im a huge GTA fan and i will get this asap! gta IV was amazing and i played the series since i was a kid.

i understand buisness is buisness, and i respect that… but next time please tell us if its timed or not. the worst thing about this, have been not knowing whats going to happen…

anyway thanks fot finally bringing it to the PS3, after all u didnt have too but u did, so im glad today.

  • @Dalejrfanfreak

You forget the PS3 came out after the 360, and the PS3 was the new(er) console on the block. The 360 was released on Nov. 22nd, 2005 in North America and the PS3 was released November 11th 2006. On top of that, the Lost and the Damned was released on February 17th, 2009, almost 8 months before the Ballad of Gay Tony was even available. And yes Microsoft did have them sign an exclusivity agreement (for $50 million) but at the time the 360 was THE console to own so it’s not like R* had anything to lose.

And the best part? Once the Lost and the Damned came out on the PS3 it also came with the Ballad of Gay Tony and PS3 gamers got two great games for the price of one full game, with better graphics and audio too (this is a maybe, but that’s besides the point)!

  • @Dalejrfanfreak

There was an interview with someone from Rockstar that said it. I can’t find the article now since it was 2 years ago that they said it. As for the “R* decided I shouldn’t have that fun for a year”, honestly, I didn’t mind waiting. Patience seems to be something people lack. I’m not telling you that you have to get it. If you don’t want it because you don’t like GTA, that’s one story. But if you don’t want it because of the previous exclusivity, that’s just childish. And it’s people like you, leaving comments about how you won’t get it due to previous exclusivity and for R* to pretty much go screw themselves that would make them just stop supporting the console as a whole.

  • “…as we worked to get this game to you as soon as we possibly could.”

That is a load of crap. However, I still want to get them. I rented it for 360 and the graphics just looked bad compared to GTAIV on PS3.

There are just as many PS3s out there as 360s now, so please stop with the exclusivity crap.

  • So I’m suppose to pay 40bucks for leftovers?…no thanks. Atleast lower the price to make us feel better damn.

  • Microsoft paying Rockstar to not release this for 1 1/2 years on PS3/PC was pretty lame

  • i’ll pass until the price drops

  • Will be downloading this later tonight. So excited to finally see this.

  • Wow, so many ‘too late’ comments. While I don’t play GTA IV any more, I would LOVE to play The Ballad of Gay Tony. It looks like an actual GTA game, unlike GTA IV itself, no fun. I want to drive my car on water and when do we get in-game music that we can play from our HDDs???
I’ll pick up the disc tomorrow, apparently it has more radio stations than the DLC, and you can always sell them when you’re done. Oh, and it doesn’t take up all of the HDD space.

  • Dear Rockstar/Playstation

On the advice of Kyle Moffat, PR guy for Canada, I purchased the DLC off the PSN fully expecting it to work. (see attached confirmation from Kyle).

Now it turns out I need the disc??

So SONY, are you going to back up your staff member here and either rebate the DLC or get me a copy of GTAIV?

  • at least… you never said it will never come out on ps3 like those coward at bethesda with fallout 3

  • Hooray!
    now some detail about Agent

  • I say boycott Rockstar to give them a lesson. They never showed any respect to all those PS2 fans that made the GTA franchise what it is and the choose to sellout and go the M$ ($50 million) way.

  • Got Gay Tony. It’s overpriced.

  • Okay, I’ll boycott Rockstar…until Red Dead Redemption comes out. ;)

  • Wow look at that no responses, so you can’t even talk to the fans that you screwed over for 50 million dollars. Looks like Red Dead Redemption might be the last R* game I buy if things don’t get better.

  • I enjoyed GTA4 loads. I’m looking forward to going back to Liberty City.

  • I am fine with each console having exclusive games. However when a game is simultaneously released on multiple platforms, yet the DLC is limited to only one of those platforms, I have a problem with that. I consider it a bad customer relations decision by the developer/publisher. As such, I refuse to buy old sloppy seconds unless there are multiple added features and the price is lower than when initially released on the exclusive platform.

  • This feels like a yard sale. Someone has already used up these items and I should be paying accordingly. I’ll give you 5 bucks each…take it or I walk.

  • “grow up kids. you would have complained if it never came, and you still complain when it did. Maybe you should be happy we got it at all”

Oh yes. We should all be happy for the privilege of buying someone’s product. >_>

  • Rock$tar don’t deserve the ps3 owner money

  • OVERPRICED AND VERY LATE!

I will not pad the pockets of a company that doesn’t care one bit for their fans.

I really wish people wouldn’t buy this old, hand me down crap, then maybe these game makers will remember how they got to where they are.

  • i just got, got wait damn 700 minutes

  • All i gots to say is…
    BRING ON THE AGENT!!!!!!!!
I can’t wait for this E3, hopefully we’ll have at least a trailer for it.

  • “We are proud to announce that the highly-anticipated, long-awaited release of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City (including both The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony) for PlayStation 3 – is here. WOW….what BS. A year of telling PS3 users that the DLC will not be coming to the PS3, so get a xbox 360 if you want them. A year of fanboy and the American media rubbing it in PS3 owners face because they will not get the DLC.
Not only was the content late, but PS3 owners are paying more for the same exact content on the Xbox 360.
I am glad that the majority of the comments on this blog post is giving you guys the middle finger on this one.

  • @glacier

Game developers aren’t stupid. When you sign a deal for millions of dollars at the expense of gamers that don’t own a particular system then you are going to alienate and anger a good number of them. Did regular xbox owners have a right to be angry at Rockstar for taking so long release an xbox game? Of course they did, but at least Rockstar tried to make up for it by improving the game AND bundling Vice City and GTA3 together for just $50!

What did we get for waiting a year? DLC that is more expensive than what it is on LIVE and from what we can tell nothing new or exclusive to make up for our wait.

The worst part is here you are criticizing me for my beliefs while defending a company that took $50 million to keep you from playing the DLC for over a year! I did nothing to you while R* purposefully kept this out of your hands so they could get paid and you don’t even care! On top of that you say my complaints are going to keep Rockstar from supporting the PS3 when clearly they have been supporting the 360 from the get go! Microsoft announced this exclusive DLC at E3 2007!

You should be standing up for gamers and fair treatment instead of defending a company that made millions of dollars by snubbing you!

  • Particularly in this economic climate, it’s difficult to fault a company for making the sort of deal that Rockstar Games made with Microsoft for this DLC… but likewise, I’m sure you can sympathize with this PS3 gamer when I say “IT’S ABOUT DAMNED TIME!”

I’ll be picking this up as soon as I’m able. Thanks for working to get it to us as fast as you could.

  • How about no.

  • Those of you who who complain about them being “sellouts” better not purchase and support CoD Modern Warfare on your PS3s…Infinity Ward offers nothing more but minimum support to the PS3 fanbase of the game. They could and should have easily added in rumble support and everything to the first game but didn’t. The code was already there for it…

GTAIV has done a great job of providing trophy support, even if the game was released well before trophies were required. Even though they got $50M to do the DLC, they still brought it to us when they could have easily NOT done it. I’m sure Infinity Ward would have not done the same…

My point, if you complain bout this and support IW, you’re a hypocrite.

  • First, kudos to sony for telling rockstar games to post this as they forgot to post this. as i had to remind sony.

2nd finally the microsoft excluvity is finally over and has arrived for PS3 owners :)

i dont care how much the price for both epsiodes on PS3, im a a GTA IV fan

Rockstar games will be getting my money soon!

  • People still play GTA?
The only game I still haven’t finished because of how bored i got from it. Lucky I borrowed it from my friend and didn’t buy it. Definitely not gonna borrow it again to dish out $20 for DLC.

@90… I own MW and MW2… never bought DLC for MW and won’t buy it for MW2 either.
