Hi everyone, in our continued effort to provide the best, most comprehensive entertainment experience possible, we’ll be adding a few new features to PlayStation 3 (PS3) via the latest system software update, which is a mandatory update and will be available shortly. Most notably, you’ll see some new sorting options within Trophies that make it easier to claim bragging rights among your friends on PlayStation Network.
- Trophy enhancements –- Now you can more easily sort trophies in the [Trophy Collection] and [Comparing Trophy] sections. Sorting can be done with [Trophy Collection] in the [Game Category] and also when comparing trophies with your friends in the [Friend Category]
- Trophy Folder (Title List) can be sorted by game name/ by title according to the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Add-on list (Group list) can be sorted by original/the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Trophy list can be sorted by original/trophy name/grade/date of obtaining the trophy (ascending/descending)
In addition, this update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony’s 3D BRAVIA TVs.

useless imo, hasn’t been any good updates this whole year. we want more functionality !!!!! I mean jeez the music player still doesn’t have fast forward speeds like psp had like um years ago lmao come on guys
all good but heck, i just bought 2 42inch hdtv 1080p. 3D tv’s don’t seem all that great. i spent half hour at best buy, they had a nice setup but no 3d action. only seem blurry without glasses and with glasses on ahh ohh well NO. (yes i do have 20/20) Note: for anybody that uses prescription glasses don’t ever bother getting 3DTV it won’t work for you, so sorry grandma lol. 3dtv, maybe after 5 years and when the price tag goes under $2000.00.
Pretty good update i guess, but again it’s just minor things we could live without. When is the good stuff coming?

Removing OtherOS has done nothing to stop hacking. The hackers just don’t update their consoles, hack to their heart’s content, produce custom firmwares etc. Only legitimate users are affected.

Kind of funny Nintendo doesn’t have to subsidize their hardware and therefore doesn’t have to be paranoid anybody might actually use their hardware in way that doesn’t directly make bank for the shareholders. 15+ years ago Sony showed Nintendo where arrogance gets you. ok first… i have wanted to delete trophies that i never play or own… so for me this update fell very short. as for the browser, seams as the system uses the google search engine, why not use chrome. i have a lot of problems with web pages due to incompatibility with our browser
Wow Another utterly useless update? surprise? NOOOO. We lost a truly useful feature of OtherOS for this garbage. A new ad campaign is in order from sony hamley PS3: PUTS THE fF U IN FUN.
WII very easily hacked = insane profits for Nintendo
Xbox 360 somewhat easily hacked = would have been somewhat profitable if Micro$haft hardware wasn’t crap.
PS3 – virtually unhackable = very unprofitable with the worse attach rate in the industry.

Sony ffs not all consumers are pirates but almost all think paying top dollar for DRM is like paying top dollar for somebody to kick you in the nuts. Sure some sickos enjoy it but few are willing to pay for the experience.

Since Sony’s word cannot be trusted, who knows what changes might occur.
Will we charge for it or why don’t we charge for it? It’s been our philosophy not to charge for it from launch up until now, but Kaz recently went on the record as saying that’s something we’re looking at. I can confirm that as well. That’s something that we’re actively thinking about. What’s the best way to approach that if we were to do that? You know, no announcements at this point in time, but it’s something we’re thinking about.

Crap… Nice try to deviate our attentions from what you have done with the last Firmware.
Spend your resources (funded by us), giving us Skype, the ability to open PDFs, Cross-game chat, Free online TV, a useful interface with external hard-disks, and so on.
Make it a real entertainment system, instead of this crap.

Hey I just upgraded to system update 3.30 and now my 2 controllers won’t sync with my console. I have the ps3 slim. Is anyone else having that problem? Hope Sony didn’t just mess up my system. There was no interuptions during the download either so I did nothing wrong. NEED SOME FEEDBACK

Actually don’t believe the hype. When it came out it was somewhat cutting edge floating point performance wise but four years is a long time ago. Even when it came out the ATI 1900 was pulling over 4x the performance on F@H science apps. Programming wise the thing is so glitchy and such a b_tch to code for that IBM has quit making new versions and switch to focusing on the POWER line instead which is more like what the Xbox 360 is running. Even Apple saw the writing on the wall with the CELL BE and switched to Intel. Massively increasing developer time and complexity is a death knell for an architecture in the long run. Ask the almost bankrupt Cray with their vector processing computers from the 70s and 80s.

Some of us have to work on the friggin road to make a living and can’t depend on mommys internet. I so enjoy hearing stories of greedy stupid people underwater on their mortgages for houses they couldn’t afford. Makes those of us smart enough to avoid the madness but still having to suffer from all the greedy window lickers crashing the economy feel good.

What are you on the Sony payroll? The reason people have been asking for Cross Game Chat is because it’s a great feature – and one that wouldn’t be that hard to implement. I own all the systems but I do like the PS3 the most. However on the 360 it’s just cool to be able to have a conversation with a buddy or a few buddies and be able to play the same game or different games.
I’m not sure how old you are but I’m over 30 and as such, most of my friends have moved away. I’m also married with kids and lead a very busy life – as do most of my friends, so my gaming time limited is from about 9:30 pm to whatever time I go to bed due to having to work in the morning. So when I’m playing Uncharted 2 or GoW III, my wife is usually on the phone with her friends. On the 360 I can invite multiple friends to a party and chat with all of them. We can all decide to have a multiplayer game of Halo 3 or NHL 10 or we could all be playing different games and have a group chat and catch up a bit. I wish I could do the same on PS3.
It’s in high demand because those who’ve seen it in action on the 360 know that its pretty cool and would only enhance the PS3 experience.
hello and to be honest i’m dissapointed with this update really,
1. last update my ps3 (metal gear solid 4 bundle) doesnt detect my hdmi cable anymore, im using an svideo cable now and the graphics sucks! was hoping the next patch would fix it but nope.
2. please upgrade browsers flash for youtube. in fact work harder on the browser, i cant even see of the vids/pics on playstation.blog + gaming sites. reason? i use my ps3 to browse online! *SHOCK* for my present i chose a ps3 over a laptop (a vaio even)
with no hdmi and crappy browser = depressed customer.
if sony decides to charge for the network, they’ll be no better than microsoft. there are many people who can’t afford another bill. i myself am disabled by a back injury, many of my friend list are too. when you’re in my spot, money is short & i’m lucky enough to have a ps3 to pass the time, if sony decides to charge they’ll lose me and many like me

Why oh why did Sony every get into the media business? That was the point at which their electronics went to sh_t. We say iPod instead of iWalkman for a reason. Nah it couldn’t have been because Sony’s music label vetoed giving customers a device they wanted.

Dead #1 you are younger than me and #2 we can agree times suck ass now mostly due to the worse generation in American history the baby boomers and their endless greed. I need to not blame the other peons like myself suffering but the greedy 60+ year old bankers and politicans that ran from the draft in Vietnam, invented disco and just plain ran this country into the ground while they ran off with millions and are now asking us younger Americans how we intend to pay for their retirement that they never saved for. Who cares about the grandkids anyway? But back on subject yes the PS3 does have some kickass games and I just hope Sony is smart enough to not ruin what little goodwill they have left from their customers.

Everyone who says they aren’t listening to Share, those ideas are going to take some time to impletement. They don’t just rub their hands together and smack a compputer and there is your firmware update, or cool new feature. So relax, I don’t think we will see anything off of Share for atleast 6 months to a year.
I had an Xbox and still have a WII. Micro$haft is even worse than Sony so I regifted it to my brother. The WII is for the kids and is basically worthless for anybody that has grown pubes (though I admit I do love hacking it and messing with homebrew linux on it).
The PS3 is last decent non PC option left and am just complaining because Sony’s greed is making it look more like the the Xbox every update.
all i’m saying is everyone demands such perfection. me, i too love the games and would hate to see the psn change and have like silver & gold members, we paid good $$ for the best system, and tho it has its flaws, it’s still better than the alternative by a long shot. and should remain 100% free. especially for people like me who paid 400 or more for their system
I really don’t understand people wanting to delete trophies for games they have 0% in. It would screw up the entire trophy system because then if someone sucks in a game, they can just delete it. That’s stupid.
I do agree, though, that it should not install trophies on a demo. That, however, is more a problem with the individual demo than the trophy system.

Watch out and read the ToS before you install the update. Sony is giving itself the right after this update to change functions and delete stuff on your console automatically without asking you for permission first.

Hmmm, I have no interest in the Sony Bravia line 3DTVs. After doing some research, I am buying the new 50″ Panasonic Plasma 3DTV hitting the shelves May 2nd. I hope your 3D update comes out soon so I can take advantage of the new 3D technology when it hits. Who knows how long Sonys going to take to release a decent 3DTV, and from what I have read, Sonys 3DTV sets are borderline beta still like Samsungs, having shutter issues in the glasses and sometimes showing double images.
Just release a decent firmware update already to make up for screwing us over with the removal of Other OS. 3DTV update right now, or bring back full hardware PS2 backwards compatibility.
At the VERY LEAST you can fix SILENT HILL PSOne game to function properly on the newest firmware. But since Sony can’t remember what its like to fix playback of PS1 and PS2 games anymore in FW updates I suppose it will remain broken forever. Sony just doesn’t care anymore about our BC.

I agree with many gamers on here regarding the browser: it’s a great browser but can be a lot better. Please call Mozilla and work something out.
I also agree with many gamers about the chatting features. This should be improved, I own a xbox 360 as well but REFUSE to pay for LIVE when I have the PSN at my disposal lol, SOO I never used the chatting features the 360 offers. But from what I hear it is superior to the PS3’s. That said, I strongly hope and believe you take advantage of this and improve it.
I had one other tidbit that I HOPE you implement in the PS3s sooner or later: Password-Protecting each PS3 user account on PS3s. Also, like a computer, separating each of the user’s files (i.e. pictures, videos, music, etc). A small request that I know a good chunk of gamers, ESPECIALLY parents would LOVE to have.
Oh yea, bring back PS2 backward-compatibility PLEASE. I’m not requesting for my own benefit (I still have my 60GB running flawlessly). But I know a lot of gamers do not want to switch from their PS2 Console to their PS3 console and vice versa. The PS2 is obviously still a hit but C’MON, bring it back!
