Hi everyone, in our continued effort to provide the best, most comprehensive entertainment experience possible, we’ll be adding a few new features to PlayStation 3 (PS3) via the latest system software update, which is a mandatory update and will be available shortly. Most notably, you’ll see some new sorting options within Trophies that make it easier to claim bragging rights among your friends on PlayStation Network.
- Trophy enhancements –- Now you can more easily sort trophies in the [Trophy Collection] and [Comparing Trophy] sections. Sorting can be done with [Trophy Collection] in the [Game Category] and also when comparing trophies with your friends in the [Friend Category]
- Trophy Folder (Title List) can be sorted by game name/ by title according to the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Add-on list (Group list) can be sorted by original/the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Trophy list can be sorted by original/trophy name/grade/date of obtaining the trophy (ascending/descending)
In addition, this update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony’s 3D BRAVIA TVs.

After the update 3.30 I’m not able to access the internet via Browser. Once I’m going to the Browser it get hang up and I have to turn the PS3 from the back instead of using my controller.
It could be related with this update, anything else in my system work ok.

I wasn’t saying Sony used them as justification — I was responding to your own original message, which implied that people should be happy to lose OtherOS since Sony adds other features.
As far as security goes: As mentioned elsewhere, hackers are continuing to hack without problems, and custom firmware is installed directly from GameOS, not via OtherOS. Only non-hackers are aversely affected.
Legal action is in the works, though who knows how far it will go. Either way, “Buy our thing; it does this!” followed by “Yoink! Not any more!” is not a good way to improve customer relations — and, before the era of the EULA, had traditionally been known as ‘fraud’.
For example, you can claim the EULA allows them to lie and break promises to customers, but even if you turn out to be correct, I’d still have difficulty seeing it as a good thing.

That is where you are completely wrong. EULA’s and ToS are Contracts of Adhesion, aka Shrink Wrap Contracts. It is universally agreed upon they do not override any laws.
Even if they don’t violate laws, many courts treat all EULA’s as being completely invalid because they can contain anything, including Unconsiability Clauses, which are not legal.

Last I heard, Sony ignored those problems also, said it was the user’s tough luck and they’d need to pay the repair fee.

OST88 Amen to that! I also would love MKV support. The HD of that format is ultra cool. Some of the request for new updates are impossible. As great as the PS3 is its a game console not a computer.

Hi. I update my ps3 because it didn’t let me connect to the internet . After it finish installing the new update it rebooted and now it doesn’t boot, a red light start blinking and nothing else.
i have both a fat and slim ps3 which have been playing perfectly fine until i updated both of them last night and now i can’t play mw2 or dragon age without it freezing within a few minutes. i haven’t had time to try my other games but sony please fix this as i am unable to play the games i paid for.
also i was reading the forums and there are many other users stating that they can’t play final fantasy xiii. i have this game too but haven’t tried it yet since the update they say as soon as they start to load a save file it freezes.
i am not the only one with this problem there are many other users saying the same thing. PLEASE SONY FIX THIS!!

Contracts can only be legally binding if they are themselves legal.
You cannot have a contract that says “by signing this, you agree that your brother’s car can be stolen by us.” That would not be a legally binding contract, because what’s in the contract itself is not legal.
This is something that a lot of people don’t seem to understand. Contracts cannot make legal things which are not legal. All they can do is commit both parties to actions which are legal. EULAs have been found to be legally binding contracts in the past even with no signature, but only if their provisions are themselves legal.
There are many things in Sony’s current EULA which are not legal, and therefore it is not a legally binding contract. Sony would need to take someone breaking the EULA to court to try to prove otherwise, and they would lose.

No they didnt ignore the problems. They released 3.01 as a fix to 3.00. Unfortunately with any electronic device, when you replicate a process millions of times like a firmware update, there are bound to be errors.

At no point in time do I mean to convey that people should be happy that other os was removed because sony puts out other features.

Although I understand it is frustrating to lose a feature, the amount of backlash sony is taking over this issue is ridiculous.
They are a normal company capable of mistakes. However overall they have been good to the consumer and strive to improve the psn and the ps3.
There is no argument that the other os is a security risk. Its a fact. And any of the other hacks that are done without the other os will certainly be patched…that is unless people are going to cry that they paid for those security holes.
I agree that consumer laws trump EULAs. Thats exactly what the EULA says.
The argument that many courts treat EULAs as invalid is true and false. Some courts do and some courts dont. Usually its not the whole EULA they invalidate, but only the small portion that contradicts law.
Either way, the EULA is how a company will operate until a court tells them they cant.
I doubt anyone can get sony on removing other os because they will be able to prove its a security risk.
I know sony said they wouldnt remove other os. That comment was made before Geohot released the exploit to the world.

first off . There are no laws requiring SCEA to protect passwords . Secondly , outside a court of law it is not an individuals right to declare a contract “invalid ” . Many shade tree lawyers here .. please provide exact links to info that makes anything in th eula illegal .
What is the PSN ? The PSN is a server /servers . PRIVATELY OWNED servers . YOU own your PS3 , SCEA OWNS the servers . SCEA has all rights to make requirements including Hardware/Software profile for any device that connects to THEIR PRIVATELY OWNED SERVER . …. and EVERYBODY IS GIVEN the opportunity to DECLINE however … if you decline you cannot connect . its a right that is afforded to EVERY online content provider with a private server . YOU DID NOT PURCHASE THE PSN WHEN YOU BOUGHT YOUR PS3 . That would be like saying you PURCHASED THE INTERNET when you bought your computer . Please… come back with verifiable resources of the legalities involved … after all SCEA just opened up for business yesterday and have absolutly no idea what they can and cannot do … right ?

Sony really thought hard about this before they acted. They take into consideration the fallout of any unpopular decision. They calculate that losses vs the lost due to piracy. In this case they decided that the piracy was the greater threat. If the 3rd parties decide that the PS3 isn’t safe for their products, we may see a lot more Xbox 360 exclusives come late 2010.
Then they go to legal and see where they stand. They are told they can’t simply remove a service that was paid for. However they can have a Change in Terms (CIT) They simply make it a choice. You may keep the OS feature, however this mean that you will no longer have access to our servers. Which I don’t have to remind you none of us pay for. Its by Sony good graces that we are allowed free access to their servers. With every firmware you are given a choice of accept or don’t accept. Most don’t block PSN services. Yet, Sony doesn’t want those that keep the OS to have accept to PSN games or Video. Chances are good that by E3 they will release a larger firmware that will make the holdouts surrender their Other OS feature.

UPDATE 3.30 obsoletely does NOTHING !!!!! But i did notice i cant save avi. files from the playstation 3/video/XMB TO a external usb hard drive.
When saving or saving and creating a video folder in the external hdd it will get 4% or 8% and say error. Now i could do this fine before but now kts been completely blocked with update 3.30 obsoletely bull its not even detailed in the terms of the update they are taking features away without even telling us.
I just got a PS3 used from my job for $180.00!! I will update it and be back online in just a few minutes. It’s a slim 250 gb model. Too bad Sony didn’t get a dime. ;-p

I did the update to my ps3 fat and sense then i got a liking red light every time i try to turned on, does somebody know why this happened ? i called costumer service and they said that because i had it for 13 months the warranty would not cover it.
I’d give Sony a break about making the “big updates” such as x-game chat, x-game invites, and auto-syncing trophies. I suspect their holding a few things back to surprise us come E3 on June 15th.
sony i really wanna know why nothing seems to work on the system. netflix page wont load on the browser and yutube wont work. what the hell is wrong with yall. how do you claim that the ps3 does everything when it cant do those simple things. Xbox has thier things so organized and everything works on it when you wanna use it. i really dont understand this. if you guys cant get your hardware to work with the software, then why do you guys keep making hardware when the main issues is with the different things you claim the ps3 can do but cant. im really getting pissed everytime i try to use the features and nothing seems to be working right. I KNOW MICROSOFT IS JUST LAUGHING THEIR A$$E$ KNOWING THIS.

How about playlists for VIDEO, or a play all feature for VIDEO, or the ability to create custom folders for VIDEO?

In regards to 3D I guess this 46″ 2D TV I bought a year ago is worthless now. Thanks for focusing on technologies that will likely flop- much like it did in the early 80’s when 3D movies were the new theater experience.
And trophy shuffling or whatever? What’s that folder for anyways?
How about appealing to those people that like to tinker. We’re the ones that like the multimedia DLNA features, high GPU computing, etc. I’d think appealing to us would make the most since under the circumstances.
If anything Sony could put their own locked down OtherOS and give a programming environment for people to still tinker with.

Hey Guys! Since I have downloaded and installed new firmware, it is not connecting to either the controller or BD remote. I had to reconnect to BD remote. To connect to the controller, I have to mannually switch on the console and switch off it again, manually. After switching off the console, it restarts the system automatically and also initiallizes it’s network light (green light) for connecting to the controller or any accessory.
This problem again starts after I switch off the system (either manually of through the controller). I tried to adjust the system settings many times but failed in fixing the problem.
Can playstation fix the problem.
Please help!

because i couldnt tell you if i like the update or not because it will not install.
It takes forever and when i think its going to finish i get an error message and have to do it all over again.
I cant play any of my game you have basiclly turn my PS3 into a blu-ray player you know what i like the blu-ray but i bought the PS3 to play the games.
From what i read it seems like this update effectively ruins gameplay for popular games and adds in a trophy system nobody really wanted.
The tv thing would be cool but where is the research to support doing the 3D tv now because i dont think anyone is going to be rushing to the stores to buy it.
I know Im not, if it wasnt for the fact that this update has destroyed my consol i would have never logged gone to my computer to find out why the update was taking so long. I have not seen one hint of advertising for this 3D TV that required you to do this update.
I just have one question when are you going to come out with an update that is actually useful and worth the time to download.

U know what I hate the most about ps3? The fact that 95% of the games have to be installed to the hdd and waste memory space. If games like GOW 3 can play from disc why not make all games like that? Just my thoughts what do y’all think?

I personally don’t care anymore about the lost of OS. What’s done is done! Anyways I hope to see better updates with regards to deleting trophies and hopefully updates x-chat/Invites and the ability to listen to custom track. All at once. I’d wait a good year for a FW if they promised for next update will be these things.

i totally agre about browzer update, im using it right now and i think my cellphone is faster, better flash and more tools but what can i do, its free! and i wont die 4 not having good browzer, but i know that PS3 can do more than a nokia N97
i have both PS3 FAT and SLIM and i think the FAT is faster and has more memory (RAM or ROM, idk), but i was hoting a GROUND WAR match in MW2 (really hard to be host since i have 1 in 18 chances) and it FROZE UP, it never happened before, later i went to free for all and after 3 hours i became host, then i lost it again becouse of another frozing problem, i had to turn it of by the power chord… then i went to the FAT 1 and didnt had any problems.
i wonder what happened to PS3 SLIM?
Im experiencing Failed Audio though my HDMI port, checked all connections and nothing works yet. I switched to the AV connections and that works but the picture sucks. This update blows give me my sound back!
