Dead Space 2 for PS3: E3 2010 Interview

Sid Shuman's Avatar Posted by Director, SIEA Social Media

At the conclusion of Dead Space, space miner Isaac Clarke was, shall we say, a little unwell. Though Clarke’s body survived his first encounter with the Necromorph, the same can’t be said for his mind.

We caught up with the creative director of Dead Space 2, Visceral Games’ Wright Bagwell, to learn more about the game’s gargantuan new setting, new enemies including the Tripod and the Pack, and new combat abilities including the Javelin gun. Watch our interview below to learn more.

Notably, Dead Space 2 will feature a bigger, deeper universe than the first game. No longer stranded on a dinky deep-space mining station, Clarke now prowls a labyrinthine interstellar complex called “The Sprawl,” comprised of hospitals, schools, churches, and unspeakable things that go bump in the night. Visceral Games has confirmed that the Church of Unitology, the cult-like Necromorph worshippers introduced at the conclusion of Dead Space, will play a far more direct role in this sequel. Naturally, Visceral Games is keeping its lips tightly sealed on the specifics of their involvement, but we can’t imagine it’s going to end well.

Please please please let this game have a plasma-percussion lightsaber as one of the new weapons.

That would be so much outrageous fun if it supported the PS Move as well.

Loved Dead Space.

Platinumed it, got some DLC, bought the BluRay animated movie, prequel graphic novel, even got an Isaac Clarke action figure, lol. Always wanted Dead Space: Extraction, but I wasn’t about to waste my money on a Wii. Settled for the Extraction comic instead.

So……guess who’s buying this Dead Space 2/ Dead Space Extraction pack at 12:01 AM on release day? Guess. ;)

Alrite peoples listen up, this isn’t official but rather what can be assumed from current info. DS2 will be available as a stand alone from DS2LE, assumed because its been announced that DSE will be available thru PSN as well. DS2 will not support Move, BUT DSE WILL and be remastered in HD. Prices are unclear but assuming there are 2 versions DS2 will be $60 and DS2LE wil be $70. Multiplayer is unclear as nothing official has been announced, hints dont count, but checkin the current gens trak record its highly possible(personally I doubt it as EA should push MOH multi). AGAIN not official but all assumptions from current info.

To the people asking about if Extraction will be in HD…this is from the EA site:

The Dead Space 2 Limited Edition will include Dead Space Extraction in full HD for the first time ever. Dead Space Extraction on PlayStation 3 will offer the entire single-player game complete with all-new trophy support, as well as co-op gameplay, using the new PlayStation Move motion controller, in addition to the standard DUALSHOCK®3 and SIXAXIS™ controllers. Players will be armed with an arsenal of weaponry and an easy-to-use control system customized to take full advantage of the capabilities of PlayStation Move. Dead Space Extraction will also be sold separately as a standalone game via the PlayStation Store.

OMG Dead Space is so awesome good to see Sony is backing up this new IP. DS brings back survival horror to its roots. I got tired of these action “horror” type games like RE5, good to see that DS still creeps the hell out of people. I remember play DS at like 1am, with the lights out and sound up, very cool. Looking forward to Extraction and DS2.

Nice interview Sid !
The think he told you at the end about stomping the already dead enemies, that’s so true.. :D

Also, really nice to see that you actually reply to your readers :)

And your face reminds me of Paul Kellerman from Prison Break :P
