In addition to the latest features introduced in PS3 system software update (v3.40), a separate, new PlayStation Network application on Facebook.com will be made available. This builds upon what was previously launched with Trophies and the ability to publish purchases from the PlayStation Store. Now you can further integrate your PlayStation Network and Facebook accounts with this new application. The application allows you to display your PlayStation Network profile on your Facebook account, find out which of your Facebook friends have a PSN account and send them a PlayStation Network friend request, view your PSN friends’ online status and add the PlayStation Network application tab to your Facebook user profile.

  • great job sony!!!!!!! best update in a long…. time lol…my favorit update was the old one that added in game xbm…this is number 2 :] i love you guys! keep it up!

  • I wanted HULU :( well i guess good enough :)

    But hulu….. :(

  • I like how it says “soon” Why doesn’t it say tomorrow? Unless it’s coming out later tonight, that’d be great.

  • Still waiting for the update that will allow my PS2 widescreen games to actually fill up my TV without ridiculous borders. Waiting 4 years now….

  • One of THE best FW updates to date. keep the awesomeness coming Eric!

  • The new stuff yah added is nice, but I don’t understand the reasoning for it. How many of yah are plannin on usin these new features everyday, or more than once a month. Those of yah bashin others for wantin cross chat, get friends then yah will understand why we want cross chat. Sony knows why they are losin the race. Wii has its specific audience, and xbox kills with price, plus all the things that a core gamer wants, needs and more. I’m not a xbox fan, but I know everything they have done right. Sony said last year that in order to come back they need to cater more to the core gamer. Yah gave us 3 games, now your backin off as if you have finished your job? The move, is understandably sonys push to get casual gamers onto the ps3, theres lots of other casual stuff on here already, that I’m aware of. Why aren’t we gettin the stuff we asked for? Who exactly asked for this stuff?

  • The morons that say that those who vote on blog share only make up less than 10% of the millions of ps3 owners, yah don’t realize that only 20% or less of those owners actually come to the blog, right? I ask again, how often are yah gonna use these new features. If the ps3 was made for hermits in mind, then I guess I’ll go xbox. On there, they give us the tools to socialize. Socializing is a key to online gaming and MAKING FRIENDS. And, if you already have friends, like most of us non hermits do, we like to talk to each other. Thats what social humans do. If yah don’t want these features added to the ps3, how come yah just don’t stick to ps2? It does all the lonely things yah want it to do. This is next gen, its supposed to do everything. Well, I guess does a lot of things that no one seems to care about. I understand that sony is tryin to be different, but BASICS is the key to winning this race. PC and xbox has all these basic tools now. Give us the basic tools to enjoy our online gaming machine. But, if sony wants to give the crown to xbox or wii, then I guess they already have it.

  • Even though I will probably never use the Facebook integration, I know many gamers would including my wife! So I’m glad you guys are including it. And the photo and video features are great. I know both of us will use these features. Now for some Twitter and Google Buzz support? Maybe?

  • @ETafner
i always used the auto-shutdown feature on my 3 Ps3 consoles.
When any of my PS3 IDLE for 1 hours, it auto-shutdown.

I really dont get why you think your CPU need “rest”?
    you talk about YLOD.
But what about BLU-RAY FAILURE due to over use spinning and spinning ever and ever…

Shutting down you PS3 is the best way to “cool” down your CPU
BTW. my PS3 is always at very low temp.
I clean it every week whit my air compressor.

YLOD is due to cheap soldering manufactured in china
SONY is the only one to be blamed about, but they always refused to face the sad reality.

Your PS3 is BROKEN because you think you need to overheat more before closing your playstation

  • @Obiwan6170
    Yes, absolutly get it!
Already 60$ on my account, i’m ready!

  • @401

How do you know its only 20%?

  • is the update coming tonight or tomorrow?

  • @moriarty1975

he probably have really good source of “contact”
    xD

  • I WANT IT NOW!!!!

  • still no cross game chat, wow

  • Linux? Cross-game chat? Better browser? MKV Support? Background music while in-game?

    I see… another update i’m not getting.

I really, really, really don’t care about social networks as much as you think… i do care about doing everything! Linux can do everything, XMB cannot.

  • @401 to add to that, people should go by what is the most asked for feature on blog share. it’s cross game chat. and yea, ur right, less than 10% of ps3 owners come to this website. so those people who say its only like 20%, UR WRONG.

  • Wow, video editor, big surprise. Good stuff.

  • anyone know as to when this actually comes out?

  • I think this might actually come next week… judging on the post being a bit vague…

  • Aargg, wish there was an edit button.

Not too excited over the rating system. Take I look at the Ipod App store to see how idiots constantly abuse and down rate decent apps.

  • @401 SHINSPIKES,

I totally agree with what you said.

  • I don’t care about a video editor. I’m sorry but it is useless to me (…and I have a PC if I wanna edit a video anyway).

The Facebook functions… They are okay, I guess. It’s an improvement (but also as a X360 and PS3 owner, I may say it still far away from the Microsoft Facebook).

The Five Stars rating was GOOD. FINALLY. However, I still think you should put more efforts in integrating the PSN experience to the rest of our PS3 experience, just like MS does with their Xbox Live (I know nobody likes comparisons, but I want to have a good service. Good enough to make me pay 50dls for PSN+, which I don’t think I’m doing right now). You should add the option to access PSN from the games, because it’s not funny to have to search for some specific contents when you want to download, I don’t know, SSFIV costumes o PoP’s Epilogue.

    [end of Part I]

  • Also, PSN service should spread to other countries. I’m not from the States, not even from Northamerica, and because my country doesn’t have a PSN service I had to create my account with a US ID. Again, Xbox Live did it after the last E3, why can’t you? (okay… maybe they have more money, but you have my fidelity since the PS1!!). Luckily I’m able of speaking in English… well, sort of…

There’s a whole lot of other things I’d like to see improved on my beloved PS3 (a better browser able to accept more plug-ins, the return of PS2 backwards compatibility -I can’t sell my old PS2 Slim yet… Where else could I play FFX and XII? xD-, better antialiasing -I don’t know if it can be solved via software though-, more avatars and customizable avatars, etc etc etc), but I now some of them will be taken into account and some won’t.

    [end of Part II]

  • Fortunately, since there’s not PS4 on the horizon yet, we can expect more improvement to the PS3. And -believe me- I’m looking forward to seeing more and more updates and new things. That’s why I prefer my PS3 over the X360, which I use just for exclusives and, of course, modding.

That’s all I want to say right now. I hope somebody will read my words.

Oh, and I cannot forget: thanks for all the fun you, PS guys, have given to me since the middle nineties, when I was just a child clinging over to his SNES.

Greeting from Chile (yeah, the Land of Earthquakes)

  • hmm this sucks. how long do we have to wait for the firmware? i think they just posted that and its getting released tomorrow. they said 6/29 at E3. i was wondering why they posted it a day early.

  • SoNY no money to do cross chat function, that why it won’t come out this function, they do invest for other feature like video editing, for me i don’t use this function #@$@%%^

  • Everyone will never be satisfied. IMO X game chat will push loads of people on to PS+

  • I would love to be able to interact with my PSN subaccount in my facebook profile. But apparently that’s still not possible.

  • Well atleast your not taking anything that we know of yet Sony

  • Still no cross game chat, he puts down his ps3 controller and picks up his 360 controller.

  • Awww, I would be completely offended by your comment there PaulMicheal, however you almost had a complete sentence and resulting in your insult just proves my point. So that being said think what you want, say what you want sony fans or be a absoulte cancer on the world like our friend PaulMicheal.

  • I don’t get this. Why don’t Sony promote these features more. Video Editing, is probably not the biggest thing ever but it’s awesome and should get more visibility. Here I was disappointed at PSN offerings as there was so little mention of it at E3. But this is a cool feature that I would’ve gotten excited over.

  • honestly i don’t think i would use cross game chat. Whats the point when im playing a totally different game. Anywayz i wish a sony rep would tell us when this firmware is getting released.

  • @417 I believe some games can link to the PSN store like Uncharted 2 for DLC when you log in the multiplayer. Speaking of that though my ps3 always restarts/freezes when i press the PS store thing in U2 so then again, I guess it doesn’t work.

  • Has Linux functionality been restored yet?

  • no linux hasnt been restored. it will never be restored

  • Nice improvement, but you have to check the download link from us.playstation.com, I tried download the 3.30 firmware and it says is not available the webpage, and directly from the ps3 it takes years O.O

  • its out downloading

  • its out downloading?

  • Any info on the PSP firmware update? Also, is there any option to hide the new facebook icon/any other icons this update adds to the already cluttered xmb?

On a positive note, thanks for trying to update the PS3! Even if most of them aren’t things that people want… the video editing could be interesting.

  • @433 LIER

  • Any update is a disappointment without Linux capability being restored. Guess I’ll get used to disappointment.

  • ooo shyt its true its out… sorry 433

  • GET2DAACHOPPAAAA

Its live. Im in Georgia. Downloading now.

  • its live now :) PS + here i come

  • cross game chat, cloud storage, increased friends list to 200, new options for conference chats like backgrounds, and such things like that make it happen okay eric plz and thank you.

  • I DONT THINK PS+ IS COMIN OUT TODAY… I WILL RELEASE TOMORROW AFTER THE PS STORE UPDATE AT 6PM EASTERM TIME

  • Why no support for flickr? That’s where the PS blog’s pictures are hosted seems a bit odd to leave them out to dry.

  • those of you that say we all want Cross Game Chat don’t speak for all of us…lol
