1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10
“Persona 3 Portable is one of the strongest games in the PSP catalogue, and a shining example of a role-playing game done right.”

GamerTell – 99 out of 100
“Simply said, Persona 3 Portable is a system seller. If you own a PSP and can purchase “Mature” games, you should own it. If you don’t own a PSP, Persona 3 Portable is easily a game to inspire you to pick one up.”

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10
“…a solid version of a great RPG.”

  • Persona on the PS3 please

  • I’m looking forward to being an antisocial zombie at my job and telling my boss off when he tells me to put this awesome game down. Then I’ll probably get fired and proceed to do everything and anything possible in the game and then realize I have no job and then the reason why my house has become so hot/dark will become clear!

    • Why must you make the scenario of you purchasing the game, which we find a pleasing one, such a dark and depressing one as well? :)

  • Definitely looking forward to the new female scenario, I think that the option to choose a male or female Main Character should be the standard for Persona games from now on.

The Junpei hat is a close 2nd.

  • I can’t wait to play as a female character …. on the road. Those long trips will be so much easier now. Yay!!

  • I’m looking forward to be able to play as a female and seeing the differences in the social links when you play as her.

  • PS3 persona please.

  • I look forward to wearing an awesome hat whilst playing P3P, wearing only an awesome hat

  • I played through the original Persona 3 and then played through Persona 3 FES when that came out. That’s roughly over 200 hours logged in on my PS2. So, after playing it twice, why am I picking it up a third time? Cause I wanna play as the new female protagonist and check out the new social links. Maybe even see if Bebe really is… a great tailor! Maybe he can make me a kimono! Cheers!

  • I want it, good enough? x) P3/4 were the last games I played on my PS2 and I loved them, so hope you guys bring the series to the PS3. ;)

  • I’m excited because it gives me an opportunity to replay one of the greatest games ever made, with lots of new features. Plus, it’s portable now!

  • The game is portable, so its much easier to do pick up and play whenever I have free time. Also, Persona 3 was amazing, so finding another excuse to play it is a bonus. The new protagonist option also makes a game I’ve played twice different yet again. I just can’t wait!

  • Im looking forward to the portableness of the game and the new features. Also lookin forward to play as a female and mess with the battle stuff

  • I love the music in the Persona Series (especially 3 and 4)
Burn my dread, Battle Hymn of soul, Mass Destruction, Deep breath, etc.

And the fact that you can play this anywhere can even be more better xD.

    Day 1 buy!

  • I’m looking forward to playing P3 again – at all! I’ve been missing my fix ever since my fiancee discovered the Sims and took over the TV…

  • im looking forward to being able to play it on the go. i loved persona 4 and have been dying to play persona 3!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I’m most excited about playing this game again on the go. Now I can play P3 again for the 4th time (P3, and both P3 FES Stories) with even more new content and sweet music while I wait in between classes for my professors that are never on time. Also, more Mitsuru :3

  • I really love the Persona games because they really go back to the tried and true JRPG formula. They really seem to be getting a lot of flak lately because they’re too “linear” and “too boring.” What do I say to those people? Then don’t get them! It’s like arguing with a Madden fan why Madden sucks. You aren’t going to convince them otherwise, so why all the hate? I got Persona 3 FES on PS2 and even got Persona 4 and got the special book http://imgur.com/I8Y6b.jpg . The SMT games are NOT for a casual audience. They’re for the group of people that enjoys difficult games and love Japanese culture. In a lot of ways, it’s more Sim than RPG, but anyone who is reading this already knows that ^_^.

And, that’s why I want the soundtrack.

  • Junpei S-Link!!

  • I like SMT games, but hate the diffculty of them. Persona 3 Portable is supposed to be an easier game than the other Megaten games. Besides, I LOVE dungeon crawlers!

    P.S. Meguro absolutely rules!

  • Well, my PS3 just got the yellow light of death, and the only reason I’m not SUPER pissed about it is because I can still play the Answer in Persona 3: FES. Played the Journey and loved, loved, LOVED it. Thanks to Giant Bomb’s Endurance Run for getting me on the Persona train. Love the soundtrack for both P3 and P4; would love to have a signed soundtrack.

What I’m most excited about for P3P is that before, it’s harder to show friends how awesome P3 is because you had to literally convince to come by and watch it for a little while and, in college, that can be tough sometimes. With P3P, now I can become like a walking advertisement.

  • What isn’t there to be excited about? But mainly the ability to turn the time my life not spent doing anything productive (ie: Economics cla….er..um…Riding the train) into time spent in one of my favorite game worlds. Also the ability to have a female character will add an interesting twist.

  • Persona 3 Portable excites me because it reminds me that portable gaming is no ghetto, it is an equal playing field (pardon the pun) for the experiences we used to believe were confined to the living room. Also, I want to see how P3 is affected by the iteration on the game mechanics from P4.

  • Well, there’s a number of things that I’m looking forward too. Playing as the new female protagonist and playing it on my PSP. But If I can only choose one thing then I would have to say I can’t wait to hear some of the new songs that’s in this version.

  • Im looking foreward to being able to play an amazing game on the road and the fact it’s such a good game graphically for the psp Plus the storyline and of course, the music.

  • I’m excited for P3P simply because I’ve never touched the Persona series before. I kinda missed out when it was on PS2, missed P4 on the PS2, and feel that Shin Megami Tensei Persona 1 on the PSP was just a bit too dated for me.

Having never played a Persona game, let alone a SMT game, this will be a totally new experience for me. Hopefully one I’ll enjoy immensly. Besides. I seem to be more likely to finish RPGs on handhelds these days.

  • Never played it, looking forward to trying it.

  • i’ll tell you why i’m looking forward to playing this. i’ve never played a persona game until i played persona 4. that game blew my mind. i thought i’d never find a game that could match the modern atmosphere, charm and humor like earthbound until i played the fourth installation of persona. since then, i’ve been a freak about this series, needing to get my hands on anything that holds the name “shin megami”, and, having looked at reviews of persona 3, am definitely interested in giving this game a shot. so, i preordered it and cannot wait to get my hands on it. even if it isn’t better than persona 4, i’m sure i’ll love it to death because what the series brings is so fresh each time you play it. it just doesn’t get old.

also the soundtracks are just… amazing.

  • Persona is just purely awesome. I’ve been waiting forever to take the suicidal action on the GO with me. It’ll be a great edition to my collection of epic games. Besides i wanna see if my PSP will explode from hours of gameplay.

I don’t wanna know what PS3 would do for this game but make it “OMG”. The last game which was this epic and great was “Disgaea” series and “the world ends with you.”

  • Just looking forward to take the game with me for a nice peaceful day at the park. And possibly frighten some small children with it.

  • @ #13

Ooooh yeah, dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah. Baby baby dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah.

Now I’m faced up, I hold out, I reach to the truth.

  • It was one of the best PS2 games amd the idea of it being updated to contain some of Persona 4s changes is something I would never dreamt could happen.

But you aren’t releasing it in the UK, so I’m going to have to keep checking daily for any news, in the vague hope a publisher will bring it here…

    Or import.

    • Vorbital,

Sometimes it takes a while, but many if not most of the Shin Megami Tensei games have been picked up by a European publisher. As a North American publisher, we do not have the means to bring it over ourselves, but we’re just as hopeful as you and our European dans that it can make its way over soon!

Have you considered the PSN version?

  • I am excited to play through persona again as a different character. also for my junpei hat :D

  • Unlike many a people who will comment on this, i have yet to play Persona 3. Or any persona game for that matter. But it wasn’t the series’ legacy that grabbed my easily won interest. It was said best in this very post. Combining dungeon crawling turn based fun with social interaction RPG intrigue on a portable system. You know what this means to me right? It means some kinda FFX-Dragon Age Origins hybrid game that I can play on in the bathroom! Man, the PSP is kicking ass this year.

    • jaeman,

As long as you promise to wash your hands afterward, we wholeheartedly endorse your plans!

(Although the proximity of the words “bathroom” and “ass” in your comment are… unnerving…)

  • The Updated battle system and new female main character is more than enough to play through this game again.

  • This looks like it’ll be Amazing!!! Can’t wait!!!

  • Can’t wait for that awesome hat coming with my pre-order! :P

I’ve also been wanting to replay it but haven’t had the time. Putting it on the PSP will definitely make that possible.

  • The prospect of playing one of my favorite PS2 RPGs on the go gets me giddy with excitement. The most exciting thing about P3P is the fact that we can play as a female protagonist and experience a different to Social Links, as well as some of the Persona 4 elements leaking into the gameplay.

  • What am I most looking forward to for P3P? Triple-dipping on an Atlus release, that’s what! Supporting my favorite company. And also trying the new female perspective.

  • I’m excited for playing Persona 3: Portable mostly for the fact that I am leaving for my first year of college in August and won’t be able to bring my PS2 with me due to space constraints (bringing the PS3 is enough I figure). I unfortunately (maybe now fortunately) haven’t played through the entire Persona 3: FES, so this summer and fall is a better time than ever to finish it! I now have the chance to do that where ever I may be. :)

Also the Junpei hat is a big plus!

  • Persona 3 Portable will be a wicked one… THE FAZEONES LOUNGE

  • I can’t wait until P3P comes out. I mean…I beta tested the computer version, and I must say it was a fantastic game. So…I’ll be waiting until it comes out. (Let’s not forget the dating sim part and then music/storyline!)

  • The good things are that i can take it where ever i go, and play while waiting for the bus or during my breaks at work. Loved how the social links works in the P3 and P4. Getting the hard copy and probably the digital download if it come out for my psn for my pspgo. =)

  • I have never played a Persona game but this one makes me think that I am going to have to start…..I like the futuristic aspect, its something I have always wanted in RPG’s and it being portable makes it all the more appealing!

    • Not to shamelessly plug a positive quote again, but 1UP.com DID say that they’d “recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4.”

      *winks, flashes toothed grin*

  • I’m definitely excited to get this game after playing the original Persona 3 and the FES version. Besides the new music for the female protagonist, I really would like to play as the female protagonist to see how it really change the game in terms of social links and story. I will still play as the male protagonist too see new story elements that was added I’ve been hearing about. Also now I can play this Persona on the go (besides the remake last year) so I can finally show my friends this awesome game.

  • LiquidCorruption

I’m most excited for all the different personas, so many different combinations and creatures! Junpei are also cool guy who doesn’t afraid of anything. Plus Shoji Meguro is one of my favorite video game music composers.

  • I’m most excited to be able to play one of my favorite PS2 games o the go. And also, the fact that we can go as a female protagonist gives me yet another reason to give this game another go around.

  • btw does anyone know if there gonna be any persona avatar or themes coming soon when the p3p comes out?

  • I’ve bought this game twice before, and the fact that I’m so excited about it coming out a third time is a true testament to how wonderful it is. No other RPG has the style, substance, and replayability that Persona does. Every facet of the game is wonderful and essential in every which way.

I hope that by saying all of that, I can win one of these soundtracks. Meguro’s music is truly wonderful, and could not imagine any other kind of music to fit such an original game.

  • Obviously it’s the sweet pre-order hat.
